New Saigon GOOD: Top Notch Banh Mi sandwhich - serious wow factor BAD: Nothing much - a little pricey over 10$ but worth it I had a disappointing meal at another local place. Rather then finish it, I tried New Saigon nearby. I'm really glad I did. I wasn't sure what to expect with the banh mi sandwich, but I went for it and it was great. The meat was tender. The sweet and spicy sauce was excellent and the real star actually was the cucumber slices which gave it a cold, refreshing crunch. I just may put cucumbers on all my sandwiches going forward. i highly recommend new saigon in Dormont.

I've been looking for the most authentic Vietnamese food and so far, this is my clear winner. I can't wait to have their pho. So far I've had their bah mi, which was delicious and not dry, and their grilled chicken bun (vermicelli noodle bowl) which was MASSIVE and so fresh. I had a few questions about what the blood tofu was on the menu and if the bun bowl was a vermicelli bowl. I can't tell you the answers, honestly. Waters were refilled promptly. The ambiance is meh. Parking can get a bit crowded all over the street but we parked in a residential area and it was free to do so.

Food was fine, not exceptional, priced a little high imho. Big portion/ Server was a nice young man polite and accommodating when the order he delivered wasn't right. I'd really give it 3.5 but that's not an option.

I have never in my life has such over fried tofu. Painful to eat. Side note- when packaging to go pho, the vegetables should NEVER be packaged in the hot broth. They should be place in the container on the side. Why would I want to eat soggy wilted vegetables ? And with that being said, the vegetables take up so much room in the broth container- how much broth am I even getting lol? Really utterly disappointing food for $20 a meal. General tso tofu is inedible and the pho is pathetic. Also, hot food in styrofoam is literally a major carcinogen as well as just horrible for the environment. A+ for you.

Bahn mi was pretty good! Got takeout from here and the bahn mi with pork was the star for me. Also got chicken pho and it was just okay. The broth and the veggies were great but unfortunately the chicken was dry and the noodles were all clumped together into a big mush (I got takeout) noodles were in a separate container. The daughter was craving pho so after searching yelp, decided to come to New Saigon and it definitely hit the spot. The broth in the pho was good. The best dish was the salt and pepper shrimp which was the best we've ever had, we've had a lot... so good that it was devoured before we could snap a pic. Excellent service.

Solid spot for Vietnamese food. Not a ton of this cuisine in Pittsburgh, especially in Dormont, so it's nice to see a spot like this. I got takeout. Honestly, I think the rating would be higher if I went in person. It's the kind of spot that doesn't really work well for takeout but may be quite good in person. Regardless, I got the wonton hu tieu and the pineapple boba milk tea with strawberry and passion fruit popping boba. The wonton hu tieu was quite unique. If you get takeout, they have the broth, the noodles, and the vegetables separate for you to assemble. The plastic container the noodles are placed in is too small to fit all the broth they give. Flavor wise, the broth was strangely a bit sweet. There were too many green onions for my liking as well. The noodles were alright, but nothing special. They were also somewhat clumped in the takeout. The wontons were the best part. They had a nice amount of filling (which seemed to be some kind of meat but I can't say which kind). The other meat on top was pretty fatty and just not really my favorite but it's nice to have a double meat portion. The boba was very good, though. It was a tad bit on the expensive side, but the quality was great. Sweet and perfectly milky. The boba was fresh and had great flavor. All in all, this is a solid spot. It's just that I think it would be better in person than with takeout, and the broth wasn't exactly my favorite. But the boba was great and I'm willing to give it another shot.

AUTHENTIC BUN BO HUE!! oh my gosh, i finally found some authentic vietnamese food here! I got the spicy beef noodle soup and it has all the authentic rustic components that reminds me of home. my parents are vietnamese immigrants and i grew up eating really good homemade vietnamese food. I recently moved to pittsburgh and was sad the vietnamese scene was lacking. happy i found this place! i know its authentic when it has the pork blood cubes and pork hooves. thank you for doing it right I ordered to-go, but will be visiting in person to try their pho

I was here for dinner and got the vermicelli bun and a large bowl of just Pho broth. Food was very good bit $$$ were a little steep. $10 for the broth which usually is about $6 everywhere else I go. Bun was good but portion was about 20% less than most places I go to. Overall great food though and friendly staff. Hard to get into if you have disabilities because the front steps are sunken in and harder to use. I would definitely recommend and be back when I'm in the area.

Was estimated to take 50-60 minutes. My delivery driver kept texting saying the restaurant needed more time. It has been 2 hours and we still do not have our food. All very suspicious so you decide if this is an honest establishment.

we came during the last couple hours on a sunday and the owners were super welcoming and made sure we were well taken care of during our visit. the food was great during a cold night and we came out satisfied from our pho cravings. we got the rare beef pho and shrimp fried rice which i'm sure are popular choices. the pho came in a large bowl so me and my friend were able to split one order in half, and still came out full.

I'm torn on rating this place, because on one hand the food is absolutely terrific. On the other hand, however, the customer service is absolutely atrocious. I came to dine on 1/14/2024 and the restaurant was pretty busy. However, that shouldn't mean customers should wait 30 minutes before even being acknowledged by the staff. It's very clear that the staff cannot handle busy times efficiently. After being sat, it took another 20 minutes to get a drink (after reminding the server twice) and my appetizer was already out at the table by that point. The crispy chicken dumplings were exactly as the menu described, with 8 stuffed dumplings to an order. I ordered the combination Pho and was pleased with the taste and portion size. It came out very hot, there was plenty of beef and the broth was very hearty. The restaurant itself is quite small so it does get cramped inside very quickly. It's not ideal for large parties and there isn't much room to move around in the restaurant. So be prepared to have people standing right by your tables if there's any sort of wait. Overall, the food was enjoyable but the service left a lot to be desired. While the staff was working hard, it's hard to look past their lack of professionalism and customer service during the busy rush. I would recommend going here maybe for lunch when it's less busy, but don't come if you're in a rush or hurry.

I've never been to the Mekong that was in this location so I'm not sure if they are the same owners. This place is nestle in the corner of a building! Inside was a tad smaller then I was expecting, probably 10 tables. I ended up getting the Bun Bo Hue which was so flavorful!!! Nothing needed to be added to the broth except for the veggies that came on the side. The pho broth was pretty good. The noodles were just a tad over cooked but overall it was yummy! We got Banh Mi, traditional ones. They actually forgot the carrot and daikon in my sandwich but they brought some out on the side. It definitely could use more pate but the bread was soft and crunchy! We went on a Saturday afternoon and all the tables were full! Everyone had a bowl of soup in front of them so that definitely tells you something! We only got water and maybe because it was busy they didn't refill the waters. Once they took your order and brought you the food they didn't really check on you but I find that very common with a lot of Asian restaurants that aren't modernized! I would definitely come here again for the bun Bo hue. It's the best I've had in Pittsburgh! read more

We tried this Pho place since our usual spot to get Pho is closed for vacation and this was near our work. We got the Thai Boba Tea, a Mountain Dew and two Rare Beef Phos. I asked for no cilantro in my soup and they were able to accommodate that and it was perfect! The broth was very tasty and everything was perfectly cooked. A Hidden Jem in Pittsburg Brookline neighborhood . Nice little restaurant serving authentic Vietnamese food. Phở is specialty here, the broth has amazing aroma and original taste. (My mom is Vietnamese and I has been enjoying phở for 40 years) They also has other delicious dish, that our family ordered and truly enjoyed, Mì hoàng thánh , Bún bò Huế, Bánh mì thịt. Most dish is little pricey for lunch, but you pay for quality of the food and service; and the portion of food is huge, 2 bowls of phở can feed 3 people. On top of the goodness of food; they offer excellent customer service, very friendly and attentive. read more

Pork Bun was very good, just note it was very tasty pork pieces vs a chop and came with a bonus of cha gio which was not noted on the menu. Fresh spring rolls were soooo good! Small little restaurant on the corner. There wasn't much reviews to go by but it seemed like everyone enjoys this place. Menu was a little limited after the sushi was taken out. Came here for the fried fish and it must've been popular because another party had ordered it as well. But it wasn't on the menu so I assume it's a special. The fish had a good amount of meat on it but some parts did seem a little undercooked. Veggies were fresh and the noodles could've been a little thinner. I wish the fish would've been fried just a little more crispy. Since it's a smaller spot, it definitely got busy quick. read more

Every time I'm in a new city I like to find a good pho spot and this did not disappoint. The broth was so rich that I did not need to add a thing. The meat was very tender. The spring rolls were flavorful as well and tasted different from the many I've had before from other restaurants. The service was amazing, my waitress was so sweet and attentive. This is some of the best pho I've ever had! The broth has a wonderful depth and richness. The beef, noodles, and accompaniments were all very fresh & perfectly done. The crispy spring rolls were light and served with a complex dipping sauce that was sweet, spicy, and fresh all at once. The only drawback was they were not warm all the way through. I wanted to love this place especially since it got stellar reviews, but I was just disappointed when I went a couple weeks ago. I tried the General Tso's chicken with lo mein instead of rice, fresh spring rolls, and crispy spring rolls. The fresh spring rolls were good, but the crispy ones, unfortunately not at all. They seemed old and a bit burnt, and I'm not sure what was all inside of them. I was expecting to pay more for lo mein instead of rice, but I believe this was a $4 up charge. The chicken and sauce itself was not good at all. The sauce was very bland and the chicken seemed like maybe it was frozen chicken. I hate to give a bad review, but unfortunately this place just did not do it for me. read more

The only waiter working on a Friday night was slammed, that's on management. Fresh roll with peanut sauce spectacular. MXG was so good, it's so hard to find the right crispy noodles. Just recently noticed that Me Kong (on Potomac) was now New Saigon. Went for lunch this afternoon and will be returning frequently. That special Vietnamese food aroma of pickles and spice gentle lures you in, and the menu has Vietnamese specialties front and center. Banh Mei with Vietnamese ham was just right. There was a nice art festival going on that day, so lots to see. Personally, I prefer a bowl and utensils but we tried it as we were in the area and on foot.

I believe they make most of the sauces in house (like the pesto and artichoke sauce). The bread is crispy on the edges and soft in the middle, the cheese is fresh, the vegetables are super fresh, and the pesto is delicious. It's just a great sandwich. And, it even comes with a nice pickle spear! All in all, definitely recommend this spot for lunch. The caprese is so good!

I usually get their wings (top notch), but decided to try the Jalapeno Steak Wrap--it was fabulous. The beer selection is always extensive and diverse. Front is full windows that face Highland Ave. Very busy on a Friday evening. The waitress was very kind and helpful. Service with a smile. First time I ordered the Chu Chee Curry Fried Chicken and loved every bite. Second time I ordered Khao Soi and it's equal delicious. Although, this one come with grilled chicken. I think I liked their Thai fried chicken better than the grilled chicken. Next time I need to try this dish with rice noodles as our waitress said it soaks up the curry better than the regular noodles do.

We ordered takeout, but the online ordering site didn't give us a confirmation of our order. A quick call to the restaurant confirmed that everything was received and already in process. In terms of the food, the wood ear mushrooms and tofu skins was a clear winner. The broccoli was fine, but I would have preferred Chinese broccoli or watercress if they were available. The five spiced eggplant was fine: steamed to a custard-like level of softness, then paired with a salty sauce and served cold. The dan dan noodles were probably best suited for a dine-in experience and didn't really travel well. My partner tells me that the stuffed pork buns were good, but the solid piece of pork in the center was less optimal than something shredded or thinned out with some vegetable matter. All told, this was a good experience. The vegetarian appetizers were good but not exceptional. The various noodle and bun dishes were very nicely crafted. The hand made noodles were a particularly nice touch, with a lot more flavor and texture than I would have ever expected. If I have any requests, it would be for more vegetable centric noodle options.

The ladies' room was so dark, I mistook it for a storage area because I could only make out a white ladder in the corner that was being used as cute shelving. The place is seat yourself. Our waiter was not super friendly and didn't offer to give us napkins or anything when our wobbly table caused our drinks to splash all over the place. The cook served our chicken with a big smile and happy interaction and we really loved his personality. The bartender also stopped by to bus our table and he was very pleasant as well. We enjoyed the perfectly fried small plate cauliflower with the plum sauce and the fried cheese/garlic wonton bites with the sriracha mayo spicy dipping sauce. The fried chicken breast on the large plate was slightly overcooked with a maple gochuchang sauce that was very bland. We were so thankful that the large plate fried chicken came with a side salad to offer some respite from the heaviness of the fried dishes. It would have been great to have some side acidic or fresh vegetable options like Kimchi or something. Maybe we tried the wrong dishes and there are other not fried things that are delicious? The dirty martini cocktail was just so-so, not really much flavor at all, but the mojito was very good and refreshing. It's probably a good late-night place for a bite and drink.

We stopped by on Friday earlier in the evening and didn't have to wait for a table. The front area has more natural lighting and the back room is dark and reminds me a club. I will note the back room is really really dark so you might have trouble seeing your food back there. The florals everywhere inside give it a girly touch. Their fried chicken is as crunchy and delicious and everything was flavorful as always. I thought the Ube espresso could have a stronger Ube flavor but I would probably get it again because everything was pretty reasonably priced.

Remember the saying, "Curiosity killed the cat". - Food: 4 / 5 Appetizer - When you think American cuisine, what do you picture? A hamburger? Hot dogs? If you get a box, make sure to get two and a paper bag for reinforcement because if you have sauce left, you are going to want to pour that over your leftovers. Dessert - The sticky rice mango is definitely an interesting dish, but it had something in it that tasted like half and half and ruined any flavor that the mangoes held. The ice cream saved that sweet taste, but the sticky rice that lay below reminded me of a Rice Krispie treat that you found in a corner of your kitchen that was there for months and a friend dared you to take a bite.
