I was recently hired by the organizers of Vegan Restaurant Week to film some content here to promote the event, and I have been back twice since on my own. I'm addicted to the purple lemonade, the kale salad with this insanely good nutritional yeast dressing, the pineapple fried rice with tofu, and the sticky rice dessert with homemade coconut ice cream. For vegan week the coconut ice cream was dairy free. Everything is just so fresh and delicious, service is always kind and knowledgeable, and the interior and patio are both beautiful seating options. I came a few years ago and didn't like it, but I came back this week and was blown away. This place is amazing!!! Ended up coming 3 times within 2 weeks. I really love their ped krob. The curry is amazing and they give a huge portion of their duck. My other all time favorite is the mama kee mao. The seafood portion is also huge, and I love how they use jumbo shrimp. I think it's probably the best quality shrimp I've had in a while. The noodles are delicious as well, perfectly pan fried. All of their entrees are large portions and we always end up having extra to take home. For apps, all are great - some I recommend are the summer roll, crispy tofu, moo yang (also big portion size), and tom yum soup. I also really liked their Thai green tea. The tiramisu was a bit too much mascarpone but nonetheless still delicious. I liked how they use Thai tea instead of coffee for an unique twist. The restaurant itself is also adorable. Lighting is great, with both indoor and outdoor seating. Super easy to get a reservation last minute as well. Service is always fast. read more

Fine, but it could have been better. The actual restaurant space is relatively small, but it has good character. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, despite the number of guests they were supporting. We ordered takeout, and the ordering process was relatively straightforward. Our order took a little longer than expected, but that was mostly a result of the restaurant being very busy. In terms of the food, it was hit or miss. The fresh/summer rolls were nicely done, with an excellent portioning of ingredients. The fresh roll dipping sauce was particularly good relative to both flavor and texture. The tom yum soup was somewhat bland: it was spicy but lacked much in the way of other flavor. I felt like I needed to jump in with some lime juice and fish sauce to get it on course. The red curry also seemed lacking in flavor, but the prik pao was excellent. Like I said: all over the map. I'm glad we checked out the place, but I'm not sure we'll prioritize trying it again. Pretty solid takeout spot for Thai in the area! Really liked the crispy rolls, great crunch and filling, but the dipping sauce that comes with it really is a must. Also tried the Kree Mao which was a good portion and flavor, but pretty oily to me. I think they really nail their flavors for the curries too, so would recommend getting that, but everything is pretty solid here! Craving Thai food, Yelp brought us here, a small Thai restaurant in Shadyside. We called ahead around 6pm on a Sunday in May. Our food was ready within 20-25 minutes. When you arrive for takeout, you'll pay there if you call ahead. The entire pick up took under two minutes. To eat, I ordered the chicken green curry mild. My wife got the larb and our eight-year-old daughter the pumpkin curry with chicken. When you order, they will ask your desired spice level from 0 to 3. The 0 is truly not spicy at all. Overall, the food was good. Was it the best green curry I've had? No, but it was still tasty, Vegetables like broccoli were more plentiful than the chicken. read more

This is a cute restaurant in a great location. Prices seem on par with other Thai restaurants. My panang curry was unfortunately pretty mediocre. There were SO many peas in this dish. I don't dislike peas but I didn't ask for peas with a side of chicken and curry. There were far too many peas. The curry itself seemed like it was frozen and reheated. Which I get it, you gotta batch prep food, but it wasn't warm and it was grainy and not flavorful. Finally, I asked for medium spice and was given the most bland dish. Had another great meal at Senyai. Started with a couple of appetizers--classic Thai chicken satay and Thai wings. The wings I felt were a little dry. I'm not a huge satay fan, it's just a bit plain. The peanut sauce was good. My main course was excellent. I had mana kee mao. I wanted noodles and a lot of veggies. This had carrots, broccoli, green beans and Napa cabbage. It has a nice spice to it and I liked the curly noodles. All in all, a great meal! read more

Delicious Thai food in Shadyside! They have indoor and outdoor seating with heaters when it's cold out along with string lights that create a nice atmosphere outside. We started off with the seafood delight which had shrimp and calamari. The breading was solid light and crisp and the sauce was so tasty! For my entree I got the si-ew and the flavor was absolutely phenomenal. I enjoyed every bite, such a comforting dish. I only have 4 stars instead of 5 because the broccoli was a little hard, but that's my personal preference! Highly recommend; wide array of Thai dishes to try on the menu. Talk about a business from home. As soon as I walked into this restaurant, I was like, did I just walk into someone's house? The first thing you see is a stairway that looks exactly like something you would have in your private home. You don't go up the stairway, rather you turn right into the restaurant and Despite the very modern ceiling, the restaurant also feels very homey. Not too many seats but there is outdoor seating available with some heated lamps. I came in on a Monday night around 7:45 PM and had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. So I would recommend getting a reservation no matter what day of the week it is. They serve your typical Thai foods but also have a long list of chef specials. For appetizer, I got the crab Rangoon and the chicken wings. The crab Rangoon was so good, highly recommended. The chicken wings were crispy but a bit too dry for my liking and didn't have enough seasoning. I can't remember what I got from my entrée but it involved pork and was from the chefs specials. The shrimp in the mama kee mao and kee mao was very good! However, the service was slow, but they did a good job of keeping our waters filled once the food did come. We had a great dinner here on a Friday night. The food was excellent and the service was on point. We had the dumplings and crab rangoon to start and both were very fresh. We then had the crab fried rice and ki see noodles as entrees. Lastly, we had Thai green iced tea as dessert and they were very good - just the right amount of sweetness. Their spice range is 1-3. We have been coming here for a while and one really attractive feature is that it is BYOB. They only serve soft drinks. It's small and intimate inside, and they also have an outdoors porch for additional seating when the weather permits. I do believe they have heat lamps. I highly recommend making a reservation because this place gets really crowded. The service is always attentive and the staff is very knowledgeable about the items on the menu. The food is absolute heaven. We have tried quite a few items on the menu and have never been disappointed. You get to select your heat level (1, 2 or 3) for all dishes. I like spicy food and my husband doesn't like as much spice so our typical go to is level 2 and it is the right level of spiciness for us both. Today, we enjoyed several dishes (pictures attached). We ordered a chef's recommendation - "Pad Medmamuang". It includes a crispy fried white meat chicken with vegetables in a slightly sweet sauce (we add extra chicken for $4). This dish is a must try. It is utterly delicious. We also had Pad Thai w/shrimp, Green Curry with Salmon, and Crab Fried Rice. All very very good. This is hands down one of my favorite restaurants, not only in Pittsburgh, but in the U. S. It is a must try. read more

I visited Senyai Thai this past weekend for a spontaneous dinner and it was a delight! I've never been here before but I will certainly be back ASAP. We were sat out on the covered deck, which was LOVELY, and our service was quick and friendly. We asked our servers for suggestions and they provided great insights and thoughts. I tried the Pad Medmamuang for my entree and it was outstanding. It's a stir-fry dish consisting of crispy chicken, carrots, onions, peppers, and hearty cashews in a DELICIOUS sauce that was sweet and salty and nutty all at once. Our table also split the summer rolls and the seafood delight as appetizers. Along with my dish, I ordered a Thai iced tea, which was wonderful and refreshing. I loved my meal so much, and I cannot wait to return for the flavors, service, and ambiance! As a note, it's a small restaurant, so I will make a reservation next time I visit. Also, BYOB! read more

Lovely Thai spot in Pittsburgh! Went here for a date night spontaneously -- no reservations, so had to wait a bit, but not too long before we were seated. We ordered fried rice and the grapow kai krop (stir fried crispy chicken w assorted veggies) and loved both dishes. Everything was so flavorful and comforting! It felt like elevated Thai food -- the menu had lots of options outside the typical pad thai and pad see ew, which was nice to see. We also got sticky rice for dessert, which I remember was tasty but very filling so we couldn't finish all of it. We sat outside on a particularly windy night in February, and we were seated near the tarp-covered fence, so it was pretty chilly and the tarp kept flapping up and hitting us, which did disrupt the vibe a bit. Would probably recommend sitting inside during the colder months if you can :) Inside decor looks nice too. tldr tasty and authentic local thai spot serving both thai classics + speciality dishes with decent indoor + outdoor seating in a house setting ordered pad thai with chicken and green curry with chicken which came out to $19 per dish which was a bit pricey for the serving size pad thai (4/5) not gonna lie i was a bit scared when i saw their pad thai since it wasn't the vibrant orange color i am used to and was quite pale - a sign of a more authentic pad thai is the balance of sweet, salty, and sour notes + presence of preserved radish which made this excellent since they found a great balance of flavors and radish really added to this dish! chicken was tender + tasty (thank goodness since most thai restaurants struggle with this) + crunch from the bean sprouts + green onion + peanuts were great green curry (4/5) cook times on veggies and chicken were perfect since each had the perfect bite - flavor was packing and they gave plenty of sauce to soak up the rice. my one critique is veggies didn't seem like the usual suspects - wish there were some peppers and bamboo shoots. also some of the veggies like the eggplant were cut a bit too big so it wasn't the easiest bite. service was pretty decent with staff refilling water automatically which i appreciated. interior was pretty tight in a house on the first floor but the interior was nice with a ornate ceiling and thai decor! food 4/5 service 5/5 ambiance 4/5 value 3/5 read more

I can't help but start my meal with the mouthwatering crab rangoon.The Thai wings are another treat, even if they are a tad on the pricey side for 4 wings. The Tom Yum soup with a side of steamed rice noodles is a delightful addition to any meal, offering a comforting and tangy kick to the taste buds. The menu has many gluten free items. Also, the restaurant is BYBO - corkage fee $5.00. While I'm slowly working my way through the menu, my husband sticks to his all-time favorite duck dish - ma-mee ped. It's a testament to the restaurant's consistency. One piece of advice: make reservations, especially when the patio is closed. The inside only seats about 19 people. My friends and I got food here for takeout, specially because one friend is gluten free. When we picked up the food, the gluten-free friend felt concerned by the look of the food (which looked dark with soy.) I don't know a lot about this but apparently soy contains gluten, which is why she has to be careful where she eats Asian food. Anyhow, she took the food back in to make sure it was made gluten free and the lady she talked to didn't seem sure but brushed her off with "yeah, I mean, it looks like it should be." That said, my friend didn't feel very reassured. I got Pad Thai with Chicken ($19). Normally I get broccoli, but the up charge for "additional vegetables" is $4. No thank you. This is already too much for Pad Thai, in my opinion, especially when you consider how not good it was. The Paid Thai was so greasy. So greasy. The box that was like a waxed cardboard was practically see-through. The dish had no color at all. That made me nervous. I can say it was the worst, most flavorless Pad Thai I've ever eaten. The chicken almost tasted like it was rotisserie chicken thrown in as an afterthought? It was smoky and weird and didn't taste like Thai food/seasonings at all. Nobody enjoyed their food, though. Everyone was sort of "meh" about it, so it wasn't just me. We all agreed we probably wouldn't order from there again. If we did, we'd have to veer from our favorites and try something new. I say, for that price, we can get better Thai food practically anywhere else. I see it is much loved on here, but that wasn't our experience at all. I feel so lucky to have Senyai as a neighborhood Thai spot. It's a little more expensive than your typical Thai takeout, but the dishes are so worth it. The tamarind pork shoulder appetizer is my favorite - super tender pork with a sauce I literally would drink it's so yummy. Every entree I've tried (ranging from the duck curry to the spicy chicken) has been packed with flavor & filling without feeling heavy. I also love that it's a BYOB, and they have a patio for outdoor dining. Service is excellent as well. Even though they do take reservations, you usually don't need one (especially for a small group). Such a cute restaurant for dinner. Limited indoor seating but there's an outdoor deck as well. We had made reservations, but got stuck in a lot of traffic on the way there. The host was so nice about keeping out table though so we were seated immediately upon arrival. Service was slow, it took a while for someone to take our order. The appetizer came out soon, but it took about 30-40 minutes to get our entrees and rarely a server came by to check on us or give us an update. Crab fried rice was amazing! Great lumps of crab, super flavorful! Reasonable price. i was pretty much too distracted to remember what anyone else had but they enjoyed their food as well. Sole caveat, spice levels, the medium is INTENSE, this will be a pro for some, a challenge for those who argue mild isn't spicy enough or has no flavor. I'm not taking a star for this, because tongues are so subjective. Cant give five stars because while my food tasted fresh, it was lukewarm, portion was a bit small, Thai iced tea was okay (kind of watery), and we did run out of water as a table, despite being the only people in the restaurant. The place is so cute inside; wish we'd eaten there! But, no matter. This *amazing* food -- much of it wonderfully beyond the usual Thai fare - was devoured at home with our own good beer. We started with their flavor bomb dumplings - aka: shrimp & pork -- as well as, the Thai wings. Both were quite good, but the dumplings really stood out. Entrees were equally wonderful: Grapow Kai Krop (crispy fried chix w/ veggies in a yummy garlic chili sauce); and duck curry (tender morsels of duck swimming in a scrumptious red curry with chunks of pineapple and tomato --- ohhhhh, yum!). And this sounds odd to note - but the steamed rice - woah! It was so flavorful; you opened the box & the heavenly aroma just wafted right up. I can't quite remember this in other Thai experiences.
