I stopped by here last night to pick up takeout dinner for my family. This was actually my second visit here, with my first coming about six weeks ago. I hadn't heard of Umai Thai and Sushi until I found it on Yelp and was surprised to see that it had moved into the space formerly occupied by Thai Tamarind, which has since relocated. This restaurant has a couple of tables outside and many more inside. The walls are covered with pictures from around the world, although I haven't noticed much else about the décor. Both times I have visited have been for takeout, ordered through their website, which redirects you to Blizzfull. On both occasions my food was ready well before I arrived. I do have one bone to pick from my first visit. After I had already placed and paid for my order, there was an additional $2 charge added to my meal for vegetables. I still don't understand why, especially since I had already paid. Honestly, if the food hadn't been so good the first time, I probably wouldn't have returned because I don't think it's appropriate to change the price after an order has already been completed. For dinner on this evening I went with the spicy ramen noodles, which I had also ordered on my first visit, while my wife chose the Pad Thai. On her previous visit she had gone with the green curry. Both times we selected crispy chicken as our protein. The menu described my meal as stir-fried ramen noodles, egg, Napa cabbage, bell peppers, bean sprouts, basil, and homemade spicy chili sauce. My wife's was described as stir-fried rice noodles, egg, scallions, bean sprouts, and ground peanuts served in a homemade Thai tamarind sauce. This time around I chose a spice level of 7, whereas on my first visit I had accidentally selected a spice level of 0. My meal was excellent. The crispy chicken retained its crunch while the noodles were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of springiness. I also appreciated the bell peppers, Napa cabbage, and bean sprouts, while the basil added another layer of flavor. The real star, though, was the sauce. It had a sweet and savory flavor that I already knew I enjoyed from my first visit, but the added heat at spice level 7 really made it shine. For me, it was the perfect amount of spice. It was hot enough to make me pause between bites, but it never overwhelmed my palate. My wife also really enjoyed her Pad Thai, especially the crispy chicken. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I both love the crispy chicken as a protein, and while the spicy ramen noodles have been excellent on both of my visits, I'd definitely be interested in branching out and trying more of the menu. read more

Umai Thai and Sushi is a local restaurant that serves Thai foods and Japanese sushi as well as non-alcoholic drinks. My husband and I ate one dinner here. We were fortunate to find a parking spot for our vehicle in front of the restaurant, but some free street parking is supposed to be available. The employees promptly and politely served us. The menu listed appetizers (e.g., gyoza and takoyaki), soups (e.g., wonton and tom kha), noodles and rices (e.g., pad Thai, lo mein, and yakisoba), noodle soups (e.g., tom yum and duck noodle), specials (e.g., peanut chicken, steak teriyaki, and grilled mahi mahi), sushi (e.g., salmon, octopus, red snapper, bluefin tuna, and yellowtail), poke bowls, ramen, bento boxes, and desserts (e.g., mochi ice cream, taiyaki, and mango sticky rice). Here are my ratings for what we ate: Thai Iced Tea - 5 stars - My husband really enjoyed the flavors of the tea, milk, spices, and sugar. Umai Sampler - 3.5 stars - This appetizer contained 2 crab rangoon, 2 spring rolls, 2 steamed dumplings, and 2 shrimp tempura. Green Curry Noodle Soup - 3.5 stars - This soup had a large serving size and was filled with nicely cooked rice noodles and vegetables such as broccoli, bell peppers, eggplant, and basil. I did think that it could have contained more coconut milk for a sweeter taste. Furthermore, I had requested a spicy level of 5 or medium, but the waiter recorded 4 and brought me broth that tasted more like 8. Green curry is my favorite Thai food, and this one did not quite match my expectations. Umai Street Noodle - 3 stars - My husband ate this main course. He had requested a spicy level of 2, and it was that level. It contained egg noodles, BBQ pork, wonton, bok choy, bean sprouts, and scallion. He said, "That was as average as average could be." I wanted to try something new and I thought this place looked great and it had good ratings! The food was fairly decent. It's a small restaurant so very little seating. When we got there it was empty so I was kinda worried but it was only 5pm which is an early dinner. The dishes were served and prepared nicely, most of the dishes were lacking flavor though! We had dinner there on a Saturday afternoon. There were plenty of open tables. The dining area was clean with a comfortable ambience. We were immediately greeted by the wait staff and given menus. There was a wide selection on the menu. We ordered the variety appetizers and two entrees. The food came promptly and the fried foods seemed well prepared and presented well. We were offered a choice of degree of spiciness on a scale of 10 . We both chose a 4 and even that seemed to alert our tastebuds . The food was delicious but spicy. There was enough quiet to have a conversation while eating. I definetly recommend this restaurant even if I have only tried the Thai selections read more

I ordered the Pad Kee Mao and it was the worst I've had. It was an extremely small portion for the price and tastes like it had been made a while ago and was sitting in the sauce because the texture of the noodles was off. Most of what I thought was noodle, was actually egg. I ordered shrimp which made this meal around $23 dollars and it's obvious that just added previously steamed shrimp on top of the noodles. The texture was off like frost bite and it had no flavor at all. There was chicken scattered throughout it and half the meal was sprouts. I had ordered the pumpkin custard previously and it was delicious and presented in a slice. This time it looks like it was scrambled and thrown on top of rice. Really disappointing. Umai Thai & Sushi - Bellevue Absolutely fantastic! The chive pan-fried dumplings were made fresh and easily some of the best I've ever had -- crispy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The chicken lo mein was delicious with tons of flavor and just the right amount of heat (I ordered spice level 4 and it hit perfectly ). Everything tasted super fresh, and the portions were generous. This is my wife and my new favorite restaurant. It is very charming inside. The streamed dumplings are delicious, probably the best we've had in Pittsburgh. Make sure you order them. I had the umai street noodles which came with a generous portion of sliced BBQ pork. It was well seasoned and delicious. My wife had the crispy orange chicken which was very good. You could choose your spice level to make it just right for you. We will be back and will bring friends. read more

Absolutely delicious!! Our usual Thai restaurant was closed, so we decided to give this place a try as it is very new. I am so glad we did! Everything was packed with flavor and the spice levels were prefect. The chive dumplings were so good. The chicken with peanut sauce was some of the best I've ever tasted!! Pad see ew was spot on. This may be out new Thai go-to. Next time, we're going to try the sushi because I'll bet it's just as good as the Thai food. The service was very good, staff all very friendly and accommodating.
