We planned a 5-day weekend trip in Yosemite /Eastern Sierras and decided to stay here with a large group. Some experienced campers, some new but we all enjoyed our stay. Campgrounds are very well maintained, the bathrooms are clean (no soap though when we were there), potable water spigots all arounds, and campsites have plenty of space. Car ports were a bit tight (he had 2 per parking space) but we managed. Hosts drive around all day and make sure things are going smoothly, some people may like that, others might find it a little annoying. Place is walking distance from a Starbucks and a short drive to the 2 main breweries but oddly does feels secluded enough. Enjoyed our stay and will be back! read more

Super clean lots of shade RV or tent. Bike path nice place to walk around. The tent area is flat with a tent landing but the dirt is super hard for cheep tent stakes. The camp manager drives around keeping thing in order bathrooms were clean and stocked with toilet paper. No soap in the bathroom so take your own. No showers here but they said up the road you shower. The cons are it street noise close the the street so you hear the traffic and the tent spots are close to the camping rod so you hear the people walk by at night or if a car comes it sounds like they are coming in your tent. We would stay here again if we can stay towards the back. read more

We stayed at Site 1 in Pine glen, the group camp area, in July. Weather was wonderful but be prepared for the occasional thunderstorm. Plenty of shade and close the the nice clean bathrooms. No problem with bugs. Our host Merle was awesome. She came by every morning and brought treats for our pup. Would definitely stay here again. We were warned of heavy bear activity but didn't have any encounters during our 4 night stay. read more

Best campground I've been in, as it was very quiet! I usually hate regular campgrounds because of inconsiderate people playing music, screaming kids, and drunk loud people talking at night, but this campground was different. It was dead quiet by 10 pm, which was great. I'm an avid backpacker who likes solitude and waking up in nature, but often I have to spend a night at a regular campground. I hated the Old Shady Rest Campground, but again, New Shady Rest campground is my favorite. Also liked the trail to the park down the way. Very nice! Great Location! Camp Hosts were nice! read more

This is a nice campground. We are camping at end of July. At about 7600 ft, it is much cooler than the town of Bishop, which we passed on the way here. There is a good mix of tent camping and RV camping. Overall folks were quiet and the sites don't feel overly crowded. Lots of trees and a foresty vibe. Camp hosts are friendly and helpful. Firewood for sale for $8/bundle or $30 for 4 bundles. Bathrooms with flushing toilet and running sink water (no soap) available and were clean. It's dry camping for RVs and trailers but easy access to water. There was talk of paid shower nearby but we have yet to investigate that. Moderate cell phone signal reception here (we have Verizon). We probably ended up with the most challenging site for trailer parking (site 86), most sites were much easier. read more

We really enjoyed camping at New Shady Rest Campground. The campground is close to all the amenities and restaurants and shops in Mammoth Lakes. We were walking distance from Starbucks. As for the campground it is a lovely family style campground surrounded by lots of trees and easily accessible by vehicle. Bathrooms are cleaned daily and near the campsites. The campsite fits two vehicles and your able to have up to 6 people per site. You cannot go wrong with choosing this campground If you wanna be close to town. read more

This is a well-maintained National forest campground with all of the services and amenities that you'd hope for delivered exceptionally well. Ryan, the camp host is pretty cheerful and will accommodate even those with no online reservations if there are a few FF (first come, first serve) sites available. Those are release for renting at 0830 on the day desired. (Be aware that there is a substantial senior discount here for Senior National Parks Pass holders. You MUST have it on you, though.) This site is next to the NF Visitors center on the main road into town on the right side of 203. read more

Nice campground. It's at the edge of town but you can't see the town or the road from the campground. Showers are at the RV park across the street ($10 per shower). Bathrooms are clean with flushing toilets and electrical outlets. It's also very close to the library and Starbucks if you have work to do while you're up there. read more

Tried to get a camp site on the lake but all were full.... must be because 3 campsites were closed! Seriously stupid! However, we did manage to get a site here at New Shady Rest. What I love is, there is plenty of room between campsites, there ate lots of trees to hang your hammock, its very clean and we are so close to town! Seriously, we can ride our bikes, take the shuttle or even walk into town yet you feel like you are miles away in the forest! The bathrooms are clean but small and they don't have showers. That really is my only complaint about the campsite. read more

Loved this place! Spacious campsites, plenty of shade, nice restrooms and Bill, the camp host, is the nicest guy! Stayed at campsite #98 and couldn't be happier. This is right by the town with a Rite Aid and Whole Foods across the street. Once you're inside the campgrounds you feel like your in a deep forest. The trails take you to some scenic and serene locations! Enjoy campers! Fisherman, you'll be about 5-10 minutes away from lake Mary, lake George, and twin lakes! Great fishing! Mammoth is truly a gem! read more

This was a very adequate car camping location. We stayed here for a night before a backpacking trip. They have decent bathroom facilities and bear lockers for food. The campsites are pretty close to one another and there are lots of RV's. I saw a bear walking through a campsite on my way to the bathrooms at dusk so be sure to lock up all your food. I would stay here again if I was doing another backpacking trip i. The area but wouldn't choose it as a final destination. read more

Rite aid down the street, perfect location with a few miles close to Mammoth Lakes and Devils Post Pile unfortunately there is so much snow right now those roads are closed now and will not be opening till mid or late June, Fortunately there is going to be year round skiing this year . This was our first stay at this location. It's a lovely campground; right in town, yet you feel as if you are in the forest and not too close to civilization. I like the fact that we didn't need to bring too much food with us, since you could always pick up more from Vons or small local Whole Foods health food store. The campsites are really spacious and you get a lot of privacy, despite the fact that there are no bushes to separate the sites, just a lot of pine trees throughout the campground. No showers, but bathrooms are clean and well maintained. We brought our bikes with us and enjoyed a nice trail that starts right from the camp. Will be back to camp there again, since Mammoth has so many beautiful lakes and trails to explore! read more

This is a prime location for the homeless to camp for free. Even when the host was informed, he didn't care to do anything about it. The place is deserted when the schools opens, some cars sneak in at night, stay for free and leave before the host come driving around at 10am! read more

This campground is great for family camping. The spots are large enough and have space in between other campers. Has clean flushable toilets. No showers but there are plenty of other facilities that have showers for a minimal fee $5-7. It has a nice bike path to the city and a nearby park. There is a Von's shopping center within 1 mile of the campground. We camped in space 153 with a 24 ft trailer. read more

We normally stay up in the basin around Lake Mary;however, all the campgrounds were closed up there. We were able to get a site at new shady rest. Really great campground. It has plenty of sites to accommodate RV and tent campers and the sites are spaced really well for a public campground. Best of all, there are a lot of trees to provide ample shade. This is great for summer camping if you can't get a spot at one of the higher elevation campgrounds up in the basin. Also has easy access to town and is within walking distance to the visitor center and town trolley stops. I would definitely camp here again! read more

Great campground. The camp hosts are very nice and helpful. The campsites themselves are big, enough space for at least 3 tents and chairs and tables. Right outside the town but still very quiet and feels like you're in the middle of the forest at night. Bathrooms are clean. Only downsides were no hot water and no showers, but not a big deal. read more

It would have been a 5 star except we stayed in site 135 with a 30 foot trailer. The site was at such a slope that we had to raise the front of the trailer up about 4 feet to get it level. The trailer was raised so much in the front that it was really unstable. So needless to say I didn't sleep much. Other than that the site was huge, beautiful, clean and quiet. We are going to try again someday in a different site. read more

First night here our heater went out and we had to run generator for electric heater because temperature got into the 20's. Camp host came to us very rudely about our quads and generator running. I told him we didn't wanna freeze and his response was he didn't care he wanted to sleep. This generator is very quiet. We walked to where he was and couldn't even hear it. Thought this place was recreation friendly and friendly people. So whoever said these people are pleasant you are wrong. These are the most rude unpleasant people I have encountered in a long time. I'm gunna try glass creek campground next time. We love coming to mammoth and these rude ass people ain't gunna stop us coming to this great place in cali. read more

Campground looked very nice. Actually we were staying across the road at Old Shady Rest, but tried twice in three days to dump our RV. No host was there to sell us a token the first time, and the second time she said she had none go next door. No one there. The credit card slot didn't work both times and they knew it! No sign was posted. They said you have to turn your rig around and use the other side. Ridiculous! read more

We stayed here the first night it opened this season, so we had our choice of campsites. I love the setting, trees all around, but close enough to town to be convenient. The camp host is a very pleasant person! It doesn't hurt that they take senior passes, we stayed for $11. No hookups, but we are fully self contained so no big deal. read more
