First time camping in a larger area with multiple camp sites next to each other. When you arrive, there's no check in at a gate. You just find your numbered spot and just offload your stuff. There's a camp host that drives around to check you in. They give you guidelines as well. Rules to follow and such. Quiet time is 10pm to 6am. Well...some folks didn't care about quiet time and they were right next to us and were playing monopoly or some board game and were loud till about midnight. Totally was not cool. I felt like the sites were too close to each other. That's my only complaint. The lakes themselves are beautiful so make sure to check those out as there are many in the surrounding area. read more

It's so beautiful here! Everywhere you look as you drive up you see mountains or a waterfall or towering trees or a shimmering lake! The bathrooms have flushing toilets and are really clean, no electricity, but sorta like skylight ceiling. A lot of the sites are tucked into bushes and even though our site was in the middle and right next to lots of others, we still had a terrific time and privacy read more

Spent 3 nights here last week with family and friends and a good time was had by all. Campsite 78 had enough flat land the tent and 4Runner but not much more than that. We spent the days at site 76 which provided more room for the kids to run around. It was a bummer that fires weren't allowed but that had nothing to do with the location. Showers were $8 per person regardless of age with no time limit. Not sure it was worth it when you have to bath a couple of toddlers. Didn't appreciate neighbors walking through our site to go to the bathroom but that was just poor etiquette on their part. Everybody who worked at the campground was super friendly. Even the ones that had the day off. Ronnie was a star with her little golf cart. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. We took a stroll around the campground and rode the trolley (which comes around every hour or so) into town and to Horseshoe lake. read more

Location and views are utterly spectacular. It was so incredible being so close to lakes, mountains, and just amazing views. However, the campground itself isn't all that glamorous. Our spot we had was basically overlapping with other nearby campsites so we had to get cozy. Parking was basically shared as well. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing because we just got to know our neighbors some more but usually when I think of camping, I'm not used to high density sites. Bathrooms were decent though! read more

Restrooms are very clean and well kept for a campground. Camp hosts are pretty attentive and friendly. Whenever someone checked out of their site, the hosts would quickly groom the sites and clean them up. Only issue we had was while cooking breakfast, the host would use a leaf blower, causing a dust storm to blow into our site. Twin lakes is fairly weedy, so going to lake George or Mary for fishing is a better option. read more

Just left our campsite #62 after camping for 4 days. There was a mix up on my boyfriend's end with the campsite originally supposed to be #65. Anyway we were all set up and the hosts who checked us in had no problem leaving us there seeing as there were no reservations on site #62 until today. We were unaware of the 2 dog limit, had we known we would've never booked, the camp hosts that checked us in said nothing and were super nice. We had crates for our dogs and they were never left unattended. While there we witnessed quite a few dogs off leash walking the pavement and it didn't bother us. Today as we were gathering all of our belongings our 10 year old friendly mastiff mix was off leash because he had become entangled. Anyway the new hosts a younger man was a complete u know what. Very confrontational, telling us we owed one night for our spot, saying that the hosts before should've never allowed us to stay in that spot, was scolding me for our dog capacity, I was thinking ok junior Cub Scout reject we were unaware we weren't hiding our dogs, we literally did not know, and he was yelling at me to put my dog on a lead which I did. Whoever you are you are you need some customer service training, walking around wearing hiking boots cargo pants and a hat aren't going to cut it skippy Maybe you should learn a thing or 2 about how to speak to the public from the other hosts. We would've gladly paid for 2 more camping spots had we known of the 2 dog limit. We did witness others with 3 dogs we had 5. We got a first come first serve campsite number 62. Great campsite with amazing view of the lake and rocky hills. Camp hosts are present and friendly. It is surprisingly quite when we visited. The campsite also clean. Flush toilet and drinking water are available. There are a small shop nearby the entrance where it has kayak/boat for rent, shower, laundry, groceries and more. I loved camping here on Labor Day weekend. The camp hosts were very nice and truly made us feel welcome. They frequently circled the campgrounds on their golf carts to help you check in, say hello and keep the grounds clean. They also mentioned frequent bear sightings and reviewed tips and rules. The food lockers had plenty of room to store everything. There are cute woodland creatures around like small rabbits and chipmunks. The bathrooms were flushable, clean and fully stocked with toilet paper. It was also great that the running water from the spickets was drinkable. Since the weather was colder than usual for this time of the year, it was convenient to have a fully stocked store on site. We ended up buying more firewood and stakes to secure our tents since it was windy at night. Because it was so cold, the bugs stayed away, andI didn't need to use any bug spray. There are lots of recreational activities in the area. There's hiking and biking trails. We rented boats at the store for $15 an hour, which was nice to take great pictures on the lake. If you want to go Rainbow Falls, you either drive or take the trolley to the Main Lodge, where you purchase tickets and take the shuttle. I loved the views during the day and seeing all the stars at night. I would definitely camp here again. My family made reservations online, but there are also walk-in spots available. read more

~$21 per night and we had one of the most secluded Sites at #70. This one was enclosed on either side by a thicket of bushes. There was also a path/ trail that connected to the main road and Site 66. Only downside was that it was on grass (bring tarp) and a little far from the bathrooms. It was suppose to permit 2 vehicles, but for some reason the very rude ranger coming around demanded that we pay $7 for a 2nd one. Bathroom buildings are scattered throughout the grounds and have 4 separate rooms with a sink and toilet. These get cleaned fairly often and there's usually enough toilet paper. Make sure to bring hand soap though! Showers are available at the general store and are $6 PER PERSON (adult OR child). Recreational activities on the lake included boat and kayak rentals ($20 for the 1st hour; max of 5 people to a boat, 2 for a kayak). Make all reservations with the camp host inside the general store. Nearby trails include Mammoth Mountain peak (trailhead in camp area across the bridge), Crystal Lake (near Lake Mary ~1 mile away), and Emerald Lake and Heart Lake near the Duck Lake Pass within Cold Creek Campround (also 1 mile away). This was one of the last campgrounds still open before the end of the season and the coming of snow. We enjoyed our stay here, but camp sites could be better marked. In light of this, make sure you go online beforehand and print out the campground map. read more

The camp hosts were straightforward folks and cleaned and prepared the campsites efficiently. We were 6 of us here in two tents. The place was set up well with sites having easy access to well maintained restrooms. There was a hailstorm and it was freezing cold, the $7 Firewood at the Camp Hosts was really useful to us at night and in the morning. The place itself is really pretty. You can hear the sound of the falls when its quiet. There is a feel of being in wilderness but its also just a convenient 5 minute drive to the Vons in Mammoth Lakes. read more

This is a beautiful campground. The individual campsites are clean, and they provide different variety in terms of size and location. Some are small and secluded enough for a couple of people tent camping; some sites are larger for a 28' trailer and a group of six people (like me); and some are clustered together so an even larger group can reserve two or three sites together (for instance site #'s 19, 29 & 32). The campground is divided into three sections: there is a hill section, which is more shaded and appears to me to be more heavily wooded. That section has site #'s 71 - 95. Along the entrance road are site #'s 1-8 which make up the second section.. Personally, I don't like these sites because they are right along a road that can get pretty busy during the day; and behind this row of campsites is a bike/walking path that also can get pretty busy. Frankly, I like my camping experience to be a little more private and secluded. The third and larger section is on the other side of the lake across the bridge. This is a little less wooded, although there are still plenty of trees. I was in site 20, which is fairly large. Now, I said earlier that I like my camping a little more secluded. The entire one side of this campsite is alongside the road (separated by some low bushes). The campground is laid out in a way that there was very little traffic for us, so it really wasn't a problem with a lot of cars passing by. This part is not a complaint, it's just a point of information. The temperature was in the mid-70's, but during mid-day, the sun is so strong because of the high altitude that it felt like the temperature was in the 90's. I would bring an EZ-Up for some extra shade during the mid-day period, but as the sun gets a little more of an angle and the shade covers the campsite a little better, it is very comfortable. Bathrooms were clean, although I did hear about one being messy. That's a reflection of an inconsiderate camper, not a reflection of the campground or the campground hosts. In fact, let me specifically acknowledge the campground hosts for working so hard to keep the campground exceptionally clean. I'm an early riser, and every day I saw the campground hosts up at 6:30 am zipping around all over the campground checking people in, cleaning bathrooms, and ensuring empty campsites were not just clean, but the area around the fire ring raked. I've never seen campground hosts work so hard, for so long in the day and take this much pride in "their" campground. There is a conveniently located camp store with some basic groceries, gifts, firewood (I think $6.00 per bag) and ice. There are also four shower rooms (showers are $5.00 each). Finally, the store has a dump station ($10.00 to use regardless of where you camp). The campground is s 5-minute drive to the Mammoth pack station; a 15-20 minute drive to Horseshoe lake; a 10-15 minute drive to the town of Mammoth. Everything is very convenient to get to. I'm giving this a 4-star review only because I wish there were electricity hookups at each site (or selected sites). It would improve the camping experience for everybody--for those of us with trailers or motor homes, I think most of us would pay $30-$40 per night to be able to hook up to electricity. For tent campers, I think they would appreciate not having to hear generators from the trailers and motor homes. Other than my pet peeve, this is a 5-star campground. Stayed two nights (June 5-6) with my boyfriend in Twin Lakes campground at campsite #88 and we loved our view! There are two levels to this campsite and we decided to stay at the top level with the awesome view. It is a little more secluded from everyone so our first night was scary since we thought a bear was next to our tent but it turned out to be just a coyote. Let's just say we ended up moving our tent back down to the bottom level lol. Jim and Sue Wolfe were our hosts and Sue was fantastic! She was very friendly, funny and helpful, we loved her! My boyfriend and I didn't really get to enjoy the camping experience as much as we hoped because it was cold and raining but we plan to visit mammoth again, it's very beautiful! read more

Beautiful campground, stayed at site #6, even though it's on the main road it was nice and quiet and you could see the lake right in front of the site. The only gripe I have is that it was super windy the entire time. And according to locals- it's always windy. Makes for a rough night of sleep, campfire cooking, and even cooking on the griddle. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained- water was freezing. The $5 shower was soooo worth the money! The people we ran the store were nice and helpful with advice on what to do/see. The camp hosts were all pretty unfriendly though. Waved a couple times and was completely ignored. Camp is close to town and lots of awesome hiking. read more

This place is awesome, it has great trails and the lakes are beautiful. I highly recommend you take the trails, you can't go wrong with anyone of them! Be warned that if you come here during the summer, please make sure to look up the weather. My boyfriend and I were only staying a night so we didn't want to pack much, but I made us pack thick sweaters anyway because I saw that it was going to be like 40 degrees at night. I wasn't sure if that was accurate since it's been blazing hot in LA, but jesus christ was it freezing by night fall! We woke up several times at night because it was so cold. So please make sure to look up the weather forecast beforehand. Also, if punching this address into your gps, make sure you pick the Mammoth Lakes address. My boyfriend had just picked the street address but when I looked at the gps, I noticed that it said Bridgeport, CA for the city instead. Thank god I checked because at that point, it turns out that we had driven past the campground by 30 minutes! So just please be sure to double-check. Upon arrival, it's pretty easy to spot where your campsite is since each of them are numbered. No need to check in or anything like that, just plop down your stuff and start setting up! The great thing about the campsites is that you can park your car right next to your spot, so there's no need to drag a bunch of stuff a considerable ways. When we arrived, Ronnie greeted us and she was great, very welcoming and friendly. And yes, everything the other reviews say about the general store is true, a bunch of grumpy people run the store. However, I will say that having the general store there was really convenient for us. It was my first time camping and we were only staying a night so we didn't bring much, I didn't even think we were going to start a fire and had brought only sandwiches to eat. Thanks to the general store, we were able to buy firewood, s'more making supplies, and even some delicious chicken tamales! The next morning we were even able to buy ourselves a cup of coffee from there. Not the best coffee mind you but it did the trick! It was amazing to just sit by the lake and drink a coffee. You can also rent a boat from them for $15 an hour, which I highly recommend! I had read online that there was water available at the campground and it's true, there is! So just bring some empty glass jars to fill the water with, the water also tastes great by the way, none of that arrowhead tasting crap. I can't wait to come back here again! read more

I recently went camping with my family, my two sons and I slept in a tent at the campground. We had site 25. Overall, the campground itself is excellent, our site was within easy walking distance to the lake, it's close to the city of Mammoth Lakes so you can go and sightsee and shop. Also, we found an AMAZING spot where we were able to take our chairs and put in the lake itself and fish and just relax! Here's why I only give the camp three stars: our campsite, which was supposed to be able to sleep 6 people, was SMALL. There was barely enough room for one tent, and the space around the campfire pit was barely big enough for 5 or 6 chairs. It also had no trees nearby to hang up lines or provide shade when it got sunny. Make sure you review the size of the site you're reserving if possible. That being said, I walked around and marked down some sites that were bigger and more hospitable. I think the next time we stay there, if we get one of those bigger sites, it'd be a 4 or 5 star experience for sure. read more

Spent a week here and loved it. We were in the upper section of the campground and had an incredible time. It was chillier than we expected but the wind and temps kept the bugs at bay. We kayaked in the lakes, took the free local shuttle, road our bikes along the great bike path, fished and enjoyed the beautiful views at almost every turn. We booked this as an alternative to Yosemite National Park (since it is almost impossible to get reservations now) and we fell in love with everything here. The camp store is awesome, the hosts are friendly and informative, and the camp sites are spacious for the most part (there are a few that are pretty small and tight). Make reservations ahead of time and do your homework regarding sites and you won't be disappointed. We were in site 71 and loved it. read more

Had my first camping experience at this place and it was really great! The only negative thing I can say about this place was the general store manager with a mustache. From the moment I arrived, that man was never helpful. He always talked to my friends and I with a condescending tone and never even helped us. Because the general store is at the entrance of the facility, they should expect to receive the most questions. This guy treated us like we were stupid for not knowing where our campground was despite it being our first time camping at Twin Lakes. Despite our bad experience with the general store, the restrooms were always well-maintained. The distance between neighbors were excellent and we got A LOT of space and it came with a picnic table and fire pit. That's why the 4 stars otherwise it would be 2 The camp ground: 2 stars A lot of the campground in the 71/73 site area where we were at is on an angle. No flat spot for a tent to speak of in either site and trying to back a trailer in with a bike path that cuts right through the two sites was really difficult, they don't tell you that in the website description. The website for reservations: 1 star The way the web page is it appears that you get two cars and that's what your paying for, not so you are allowed two cars but when to make the reservation it's for ONE car, you have to pay for the second car when you get there. They really need to do a better job with the reservations website. read more

It's been almost a month since we camped at the Twin Lakes Campground in Mammoth and we still can't get over what a great experience it was! Not just the beauty of the area, which in it self does not compare to any other place I have ever been, but the overall experience of this trip. From the moment we drove into the campground we got nothing but friendly courteous treatment from any employee we encountered. Every camp host treated us as if we were a member of the family and were always ready with any help we needed. The campsites and surrounding facilities were the cleanest we have EVER seen. The toilets did not smell bad and we were never out of paper. This may sound like a small thing but to regular campers, this is really is a big deal. The little store, though grossly overpriced was very nice to have so close by. The shower we had there after day three of our five day trip was THE BEST five bucks we have spent in a very long time. We are at a bit of a loss to figure out why they do not sell fishing licenses though... Overall this is probably the best experience we have ever had and can't wait to go back. read more

This place is great! The attendants were all really nice, and kept the site in great shape. This pine forest campground is located in the Eastern Sierras a few steps from Mammoth Lakes, at an elevation of 8,600 feet. As the name suggests it's right on the twin lakes, with easy access to fishing and a boat launch. Running water and flush (heated!!!) toilets are located throughout the campground. Picnic tables, fire rings, bear boxes and parking space for about 2 cars is provided at each campsite. We had a blast there - I would highly recommend it for a great car-camping site. read more

I just got back from an amazing 3-day tent camping trip at Twin Lakes Campground (site 46A). This campground is located in a gorgeous area of Mammoth, yet conveniently only about a 5 min drive from town. Pros: - Great location - Clean restrooms with flushing toilets (huge plus!!) - Showers ($6 per person) - Clean, well-maintained grounds and campsites - Affordable boat/kayak rentals - Amazing fishing (I caught 24 rainbow trout in less than 4 hours!!) - General store (great for last minute items, ice, fire wood etc.) - Family friendly - Very friendly and helpful camp hosts! - Easy check-in Cons: - Showers: Not enough showers and pretty inconvenient location. The showers are actually a part of the general store, so you only have access to them during store hours (7am-6pm). It's $6/person with NO time limit - some people don't care if there's a line and take forever. There's only about 4 showers (I think?) and the campground is pretty big, so expect to be standing in line for quite a while. I recommend planning ahead and shower during "odd" hours (mid day, early am). Only cold (freezing actually) water the second day. The cashier said it was because there were too many people showering at the same time?! No mirrors or power outlets, so forget drying your hair and getting ready after your shower. I know most people probably don't care about things like this when they're camping, but thought it was worth mentioning. Bears: Be very bear aware! I had a close encounter with a bear right behind the general store at 4pm in the afternoon. They are around and they don't seem to be too scared of humans. Lots of kids tried to approach the bear, take pictures etc. -so if you're bringing kids - educate them on how to deal with wild animals BEFORE you arrive. Also, keep your dog(s) on leash at all time - the bear came out of nowhere and a dog would be an easy target. Keep your campsite very clean and don't leave trash behind - not only for you own sake, but for all campers. Cell phones: I have AT&T and did not have any cell service whatsoever at our campsite (#46A). I got a weak connection around the general store, but not dependable. There's no electricity around the campground and they will charge you $1 to charge your phone at the general store. So either bring your own portable charger or prepare for a "phone free" stay. Overall, we had a great time at Twin Lakes Campground and will definitely come back! read more

Grrrreat campground with plenty of local activities for the whole family. These include non-motorized boat rentals, heavily forested hiking trails, horse pack rides, & not to mention a well maintained +5 mile bike bath that goes all the way from Lake Mary to the middle of town-with great views abounding the whole way! There's even a general store in there for those who still have to have some "creature comforts". Only downside, didn't notice any water spigots typically found @ popular campgrounds. My friends and I had a wonderful stay at twin lakes! All the staff members were super helpful and kind (especially Ronnie). We didn't come as prepared as we probably should have but the general store had everything we needed for very reasonable prices. The campground was super pretty and the lakes nearby were equally beautiful. We didn't make a reservation in advance but we were still able to get a campsite the morning we got there (although I think we got lucky because getting a spot seemed pretty competitive). What can I say, this was the greatest camping trip ever! The camp hosts that we had contact with, answered all our questions, gave us plenty of insight to the area and were extremely accommodating seeing that we didn't have reservations! I would give this place, the hosts a 10+, there was everything to do fishing, boating, biking, hiking. The store was convenient too. The showers were very clean and the hot water lasted the entire time. One evening, we even bought some delicious homemade tamales which added to our dinner one of the nights. The town is less than a 5 minute drive and you can find everything in town. We even had pizza one night because I was tired and didn't feel like cooking. Giovanni's pizza in mammoth Lake was awesome too. I'll yelp them next. But for now, you cannot go wrong with camping here at twin lakes campground. Some spots are reserve, and camp hosts said there is 11% that is first come first serve. Some spots you can stay for 7 days. And for the price you absolutely can't beat it. I won't say the price due to it can change depending on season but it's summer time and it was less than $30 per night! We will definitely be back next year if not sooner!! read more
