First time, last time. Low scores on presentation, customer service and flavor. Steel City Gyro and Sahara were closed, but this place was open at a time I needed to handle a serious gyro craving. I should have been mature and waited for better, but nooooo, took a chance here. Online ordering said to retain the order number for pickup, but when we got to the place, they had no idea about any number, and wanted a name. When my spouse was asked by them what was in our order, they did not understand when it was pronounced it correctly as "yirr-oh" and snidely corrected us to "jie-roh". Our first clue that whoever is making this stuff, it's not their native cuisine. At this time, the online menu doesn't offer the classic lamb/beef gyro, so I ended up with beef. No, it wasn't lovely, thin sliced, juicy rotisserie roasted beef either, but chunks, big ones, and dry, overcooked. The white sauce was tasteless. In fairness, the salad-y parts were good. The hummus with pita was a visual joke. Honestly, 2 tablespoons of hummus over a single sliced pita that was dusted with some orangey stuff that looked pretty but lacked flavor. After the unsatisfying meal, I thought the decent sized portion of baklava was going to be the saving grace. I ate the doughy part first to get to enjoy the filling solo, and it had almost no flavor - not very sweet, and you could not discern there were nuts in there, or what kind. Next time my inner child is crying for a gyro, the adult is going to take over and say "No, wait til you can get a good one." read more

Quality has gone down at the Allentown location. Last 3 times I ordered in the past 2 months, chicken has been dry and at times rock hard. Rice clumped. Pita uncooked. Somehow Bethlehem location is still closed? When you call the number, the automatic voicemail sounds like it's open, but when you go there, it's closed... This place was awesome when they opened up, coming from someone who lived in Manhattan for 5 years, it was the closest to a halal food truck. Best wishes they can recover. read more

I came here multiple times and the food is okay. However, they really short you on the protein, or the protein would be DRY and over cooked, they always getting your order wrong and the gyro meat can be incredibly greasy. read more

I love the food from this place. Never had a complaint about anything that I've ordered BUT..... Customer Service really really really SUCKS! I went in to order a lamb gyro but while ordering I felt so uncomfortable because it's like it bothered the worker at the register that I was ordering. He was speaking so low that when he asked me a question I could not understand him and he got upset. He picked up his head and rolled his eyes. Then he over charges me and I ask him why my order was so high so the other girl came over to find out and she too had a bad attitude! My God I wanted to get out of there so fast. I ordered New York Gyro from Door Dash and included clear instructions for how I wanted my meal prepared. I asked for corn and both sauces on the side. It was first dropped off at the wrong address and then the order was wrong. I called to see what happened to the order and the guy who answered the phone was extremely rude. I asked was there not instructions included with the payment? He said no and hung up the phone. No problem, I will never eat at a New York Gyro anywhere on Earth again. NEVER AGAIN!!! I ordered via GrubHub at 7:47pm on a Monday night. It arrived TWO HOURS LATER! 9:40! I texted my driver during this two hours and she told me they were extremely rude to her and disregarded the fact that she had been waiting so long. I called to ask where my food was and he told me it was "going out right now." I told her what he said and she was told "10 more minutes!" Unbelievable. And no, the food was DEFINITELY not worth a two hour wait!!! Soo..... directly after leaving the new Burger King on 15th (which is trash BTW and extremely mismanaged and filthy), I walked into New York Gyro and was immediately greeted by their friendly staff cleaning up for the night. In my option, this place is a hidden gem in the heart of Allentown. Awesome staff, great music lol and amazing food, potions and service along with a cool atmosphere and really clean store front. I'd imagine the entire menu is great, but I'd recommend my favorites which are the loaded lamb gyro with white sauce and any of their platters. Keep up the good work guys! Wow! Ordered delivery to my hotel on New Year's Eve. My husband and I got the gyro platters and were blown away. There was plenty of rice, a great little salad and tons of meat, but the kicker was the sauce! I'm a sucker for heavy sauce and this spot didn't disappoint. The special hot sauce was indeed quite hot, while the white sauce toned it down a little bit to make it a really great meal. Ordered on 6/6 through door dash. Was told the order was confirmed and ready for pickup. I get there, wait patiently inside until someone behind the counter asks me what name is on my order. I tell her, she looks in the back and talks to her coworker and then comes back up and says she just cancelled it. As I stand there confused she asks the person behind me what they are waiting for. She then looks back at me and says "your order is cancelled" almost as if she was really saying 'you can go now'. No apology, no explanation. My food arrived 30 minutes late. The bag was soggy from the food cooling off into it which means my food was cold. Two of the chicken nuggets looked like they had been thrown in the microwave and the rest were burnt. The "lamb" gyro is not even lamb not to mention whatever it was it tasted horrible. Worst gyro I've ever had . After waiting so long and still being hungry I actually threw the gyro out. I chose to stay impartial to some of these reviews but now I agree - DO NOT PURCHASE FOOD FROM HERE. It's literally a waste of money. The food here used to be good when they first opened. Whenever I go now there's always new kids taking your order and making your food. They slap the food together, always miss stuff on the order and DROWN the food in sauce. It's disgusting. I gave this place the benefit of the doubt several times, never again. Close this place down ASAP. For the name to be NEW YORK GYRO is a joke, not comparable at all. You'll get better food off any halal food truck in NYC. read more
