I was excited to visit NY Hearing Center because the many 5 star reviews. I am not sure why my experience was different, but it was quite lackluster. I would describe the general air of the office as disinterested, dismissive, and distracted. First of all, I reached out in June seeking an appointment, and did not hear back. I emailed and called a handful of times. No luck. Then, finally in mid-August they replied - almost two months later! Fortunately I was still interested and gave them the benefit of the doubt that they were busy. Then they booked me for an appointment yet another month away - and when that day finally came I received a text reminder that it was set for the wrong location (in Brooklyn, and I was seeking to visit the location in Manhattan). Fortunately they were able to squeeze me in at Manhattan without a big deal, but I was confused by this since I originally spoke to the Manhattan office. I told them I was interested in custom-fitted ear plugs as well as a hearing test. The test went fine, no complaints there. Dr. Feng seemed distracted by the end and totally forgot that I originally came to them for the custom-fitted plugs, so I had to remind her. I also asked questions regarding my concerns for tinnitus and for an audiologist, she had surprisingly very little to say on the subject. She offered no illumination or comfort. I've honestly received a lot more information from Dr. Google. I asked if I should see an ENT regarding an occasional popping sounds in my ear as well as muffled hearing - and she did not know, or didn't really care to offer an answer. I'd say her response was basically a shrug. For a specialist in the matter of hearing, I found this really surprising that she couldn't at least tell me anything about tinnitus or popping in my ear. I'm grateful I got my ear plugs, but I'm sad to say my experience wasn't as glowing as others report here. I will not be back. In the future I'm seeking an audiologist who cares to take the time to explain hearing concerns to me, since that's literally part of the job. Lastly, the office itself felt a bit dirty and the water cooler was empty on both occasions. Small details but to me these kind of things speak volumes about patient care, especially to someone like me paying out of pocket. read more

After the devices arrived at her office I went in for my second visit and she made sure everything was set up correctly, helped me with the phone app and walked me through all the options. A wonderful experience! I purchased custom-molded musicians' earplugs from here a few weeks ago. Dr. Feng explained details of the molding process very clearly, and carefully applied and removed the impression foam. Once the plugs came in, she patiently taught me how to insert, remove, and clean the plugs, which work extremely well - great clarity and superb protection for practice and performing. This place really is the greatest. Is it fancy? No. Is it efficient and on time and straight forward? Yes. I'm an architect and the service couldn't be more helpful, efficient or kind. And I am on my second test period, using a 2nd different pair of free demo hearing aids without paying a thing yet. The doctor really wants me to be happy and to hear as well as possible. I've been struggling with new hearing aids for a couple of years. Finally saw her good reviews and decided, "Hey! Can't hurt, might help." She was thorough (repeating a hearing test I'd had done less than a year earlier) and honest. Told me what every other audiologist hadn't said, which was that my hearing was, even with the digital device, not going to be anywhere near what it once was and she took the time to show me exactly why. Finally, she sent my (under warrantee) hearing aid back to the factory for a free rebuild--even though she didn't sell it to me originally and wasn't making any money on the deal (I insisted on paying her more than she asked). Dr. Feng spent a lot of time with my 97-year-old mother-in-law who has severe hearing loss, and was instantly able to get her hearing better by trying a variety of hearing aids. She has many brands, styles and price points so her expertise is MUCH better than visiting a hearing aid store with one brand. Dr. Feng also took into consideration the patient's dexterity, and cognitive abilities (what style of hearing aid is she used to, and would batteries or charger be better?) We had the waiting room to ourselves and no virus concerns. The Manhattan office is only a mile from the Holland Tunnel. We pulled up outside and only had to walk 20 feet so it was all very convenient. Highly recommend. read more

Over my 20+ years of hearing aid use, I've visited countless audiologists and hearing centers. Dr. Feng is without a doubt one of the kindest, most knowledgable, least shady, and most straightforward experts I've met with. The office has a hearing test booth, so you can do everything at once - conduct the tests, order the aids, etc. Dr. Feng is also flexible and patient - she managed to squeeze me in when the aid broke right before a trip, and also helped me with all the paperwork when I switched jobs and learned that my new employer covered a new aid through a third party service (I still don't really get how all this works). To flee all the thieves, ladrons, crooks, and rigmarole creators, read my message in its entirety. To get a hearing aid, I read up on them extensively and then checked Consumer Reports, and then I contacted audiologists. To avoid deeply buried financial traps in the several forms you sign when you walk in, I asked close to about 10 of them to send me beforehand ALL THE FORMS I'm supposed to fill out and sign in their office. Seven refused and the others sent me only some of the nonfinancial forms. Through these forms I learned that walking into the doctor's office alone may be considered a procedure for which there may be a charge. Also, if the insurance company does not pay the full amount or takes longer than a certain amount, you are stuck with the bill even if it is mishandled by the company. Some even said I have been examined by an ENT before (think unnecessary specialist co-pay) I can get a hearing aid. I then found Dr. Kathy Feng Aud., Ccc-A and her assistant Sandy. They made the process so pure and simple and HONEST that it strained incredulity. I still have a hard time suspending my disbelief. Thank you so much. read more

My father went to see Dr.Feng to get hearing aids and throughout the whole visit, she dismissed his questions and continued to play with her phone. She was very unprofessional and considering how much these cost, you would think she would be more willing to answer questions about adjusting the volume and how to properly use them. I have been treated by several audiologists during my life, over many years, and can enthusiastically recommend New York Hearing Center as the very best I have encountered. I discovered them using Yelp, and it didn't take me long to understand what all the praise was for. Now I am trying to pay it forward by adding my two cents. For me, there are three crucial factors when evaluating an audiologist: personability, convenience, and technical competence. NYHC is outstanding in all of these domains. Kathy and Winnie Feng are incredibly nice and take the time to listen to your concerns. They will never push a specific brand or style if it is not best for you. They have weekend hours, which is both rare and hugely convenient for anybody that works. Lastly, but arguably most importantly of all, they are technically excellent. Kathy fit me for a new set of hearing aids that, after a few tweaks based upon my feedback, far exceed anything I have used previously in ability to discriminate sounds in varied settings as well as physical comfort. (Specifically, I am for the first time using RIC/micro-BTEs, as opposed to the CICs that I used previously. I strongly recommend trying this type of hearing aid to anybody frustrated with the limitations of their CICs.) I am currently in my early-30s and have been struggling with hearing loss since I was a teenager. With the help of New York Hearing Center, I am finally discovering that I can overcome my limitations and live a fuller life, personally and professionally. Thank you! I was so dismayed by the person who was setting up the appointment - I never got to the office. She wanted to give me an appointment in one week - but told me I had to have a referral from an eye doctor. I said well - I can't come next week then. I will have to first make an appointment with an eye doctor. I said I could bring in a referral from 3 years ago, the last time I saw an eye doctor. She said "No, that was too long ago." But maybe the doctor that I saw THREE YEARS AGO would FAX a referral!! I said that didn't seem right. There must be a good reason for a referral being up-to-date. Then I lost confidence that the people here know what they are doing. I didn't want to risk seeing them. So I did not make an appointment. Possibly this was a new receptionist. But still.. I'm disappointed after all the good reviews. read more

Kathy is a gem! I took my aunt (who is visiting from the Philippines for a few weeks) to see her for a hearing aid consultation. My aunt is extremely hard of hearing and unfortunately the hearing aid she purchased in the Philippines 2 years ago was no longer working. Kathy was able to squeeze us in for an appointment ASAP since we were on a time constraint. Kathy was very warm and answered all our questions patiently. It was very obvious she cares about her patients and her work. I have been a physical therapist for almost 20 years and know how to identify a good clinician. She gave my aunt a thorough hearing evaluation and was able to send my aunt home with a pair of hearing aids that same day since she wanted my aunt to give them a trial while she was still with us here in the states. Second revised review. After my first review, (3 stars) which was based on very limited interaction, I have gotten to know Kathy Feng better, and she is now my audiologist. She is attentive, honest and very easy to communicate with and work with. To cut to the chase, I just recommended her to a close friend. It is very hard to find a good audiologist, and that is the most important part of the equation in the hearing aid process. I have had a very good experience with her, and I am a very critical and demanding customer.
