I have been going to this place since one year and it has not disappointed! Shabin has done great job and amazing food !! Make sure you keep enough time in advance on weekends to be able to sit down and enjoy the delicacy of Kerala food. I highly recommend the biryani and the chicken stew.

Tried Trilokah for the first time and I'm seriously blown away. This was my first time having Kerala-style curries and WOW. so much flavor in every single bite. We got the medu vada, uttapam, Kothu Porotta, Varutharacha curry with rice + paratha, kadala curry with puttu, Mysore masala dosa, veg cutlet, and lime soda... and everything was The sambhar that came with the vada, uttapam, and dosa was so flavorful I could drink it. The paratha was fluffy and perfect. The Kothu Porotta and Kerala curries were next-level delicious. Also, the owner was there and SO kind and really welcoming and you can tell they care. Super impressed and definitely coming back. Veggie-friendly and full of flavor

Actual box received with 5 pieces of chicken (right upper box completely empty other than sauce) + minuscule samosa

Do NOT order the $12 meal deal - completely misadvertised. As shown (and on their Instagram too) - advertised as half chicken, half rice, a large samosa. What I received - 5 pieces of chicken, a TINY samosa (no where near what was advertised, you can see on the rice it is small), and a majority white rice. So, if you want to pay $12 + fees for a box of rice, get the meal deal. Should not be lying to customers like this...

When I first visited this place in March, they had just opened the restaurant and the service left a lot to be desired for but I hope that's changed now. I remember the food being amazing, hence the review. I got a biryani and idli vada combo both were really good. Can't wait to be back to try more Kerala dishes.

We visited Trilokah over the Easter weekend. The restaurant was clean, well-maintained, and featured charming Kerala-inspired décor. We started with the Thattukada Chicken Varuthathu -- hands down my favorite dish of the evening. It was authentically prepared, with juicy chicken pieces fried to perfection. Unfortunately, the lime soda didn't live up to expectations and was a bit of a letdown. Next, we tried the Thalassery Chicken Biryani. It had all the right flavors and was quite enjoyable, though I found the masala a bit overpowering. My husband, on the other hand, absolutely loved it. We also had the Chatti Porotta with beef. The porotta was perfectly flaky, and the beef was decent. The dish came with a fried egg, but I personally would've preferred an omelette instead. Still, it was satisfying overall.

Came in on Sunday and it was packed by 1pm. It's a small bustling restaurant. Refreshing to see a regional Southern Indian cuisine featured in the heart of Chicago. All the mutton/goat dishes were pretty good. The clay pot dish with fresh parotta (layered flatbread) topped with goat and pepper goat was the highlight. The kids liked cheese dosa and the kids approved the accompanying sambar (a must have veggie stew) and asked for more. The thallaserry biryani (similar to paella) and tawa roasted shrimp was good too. My toddler liked the shrimp and dosa very much. My only qualm is that there was bit too much fat in goat dishes but taste was good. The preparation is pretty authentic so be prepared to see bone in pieces. Though they may offer some usual dishes that Americans are used to seeing, I probably recommend stick to what they are known for ,which is the Kerala and Southern Indian specialties. It was nice that I could actually come in and speak to the host in my native language for the first time in the city in over 30 yrs.

Went here the second day of the opening around evening. Ambience was clean and quiet. Staffs were extremely friendly and polite. It's an authentic kerala south indian restaurant. I am so glad we finally have one close to downtown and this might give a hard competition to thattu. What I like here about food is that there are a lot options from general Indian food menu to the authentic kerala dishes. Authentic dishes are quite on the pricey end for an Indian restaurant. On an average it comes upto $24 for few authentic kerala dishes. Love their tea and it's so refreshing. It's a bang on the buck. Appetizers we had Thelissery goat fry and I also did a take out for chilli chicken. Goat fry was good but chilli chicken was a bit messed up. Entrees I tried Veg stew with appam and also did a take out on vijayawada chicken biriyani. Both of them were fresh and rich in flavor. Appams were so tasty. For desserts I tried palada payasam it was a hit sweeter for me. It could have been a bit milder in sweetness and rich in flavor. Overall majority of the experience was good and food is fresh but can get a little bit pricey.I hope they keep up the same quality and can work on prices. Brownie points for the location and proximity to downtown.

Trilokah is a great spot if you're craving bold, flavorful South Indian dishes with a side of fusion flair. We ordered a variety of items and loved most of what hit the table, especially the dosas and curries. What We Loved: Mysore Masala Dosa - Perfectly spiced, crispy, and generously filled. A solid standout! Podi Dosa - Another hit! The podi added that nutty, spicy layer that made it extra comforting. Egg Curry with Appam - Rich, flavorful curry paired with soft, lacy appams--a must-try combo. Gobi Manchurian - Crispy, tangy, and addictive. A great starter to share. Vada Sambar - Flavorful and satisfying, though the vada could have been a little crispier. Drinks - We tried the mango shake and lime soda. While refreshing, they didn't quite hit the mark with our group--missing a bit of balance or boldness. Overall Vibe: Comfortable, lively space with great service Menu is creative but stays true to South Indian flavors Great for sharing plates and casual group dinners

This is place is a family favorite for getting Kerala food outside of our home. Have tried countless dishes on the menu and everything is delicious and well done. The fish pollichathu is a must order! It comes sizzling on a skillet wrapped in a banana leaf with such a flavorful and tangy masala. And of course, the beef fry is another essential dish when visiting Trilokah. Of all the curries they make, our favorite is the shrimp molly - the perfect blend of spices and sweetness from the coconut milk. I love how fluffy the appams are and the parrotas are perfectly flaky. Also, the restaurant space is very clean with such cool decor but an overall cozy and warm feel. Love coming here with family or introducing my friends to the flavors of Kerala cuisine!

Cute scooter imported from India in the window

We visited the newly opened Trilokah on a Friday evening one week after their ribbon cutting. The restaurant has potential. The service staff tried hard but seemed overwhelmed by the full house. The food was interesting and enjoyable. The extensive menu offers both familiar Indian dishes (Chicken Tikka Masala) as well as more exotic South Indian cuisine. The vegetarian curry with black chickpeas was delicious. The Chef Speciality shown in photo was complex in its construction and an interesting dish. We will probably be back in a few months and provide an update.

It has such a great garlic taste and it was perfect for dipping in here masala sauce. The butter chicken was so buttery. It tasted very similarly to the chicken tikka masala though. Not pictured was our mango lassi. My boyfriend ordered it for us and in was pleasantly surprised. It's like a mango yogurt drink. It has a velvety texture and it was very flavorful. For lunch especially, the quality and portion sizes are amazing for the price. The service was extremely friendly and welcoming. It truly feels like a family-owned restaurant, and the staff consistently checked in on our table to make sure we were enjoying everything. We ordered a variety of dishes. My favorite by far was the chicken tikka masala - rich, flavorful, and very satisfying. The tandoori chicken, however, was just average to me; it was a bit overcooked and lacked flavor. I also really enjoyed the Josh Rogan and the mango lassi, both of which were great. The ambiance is nice and comfortable, but the wait can be quite long, so keep that in mind. To start with, my dining companion and I ordered the gobi manchurian, which was delicious. As a native Bangalorean, I take my gobi manchurian seriously, and was quite impressed with Maharaj's iteration (since then, I think they may have removed the Gobi Manchurian from the menu: it was great while it lasted!). My companion and I assumed that the stellar gobi would herald an even more incredible main course, but were quickly proven wrong. The malai kofta was insipid and texturally confusing. The gravy was tasteless and the kofta balls were simultaneously both chewy and crumbly. Listen: I love malai kofta, because as the name suggests, cream is the central ingredient. It is sometimes possible to paper over deficiencies in a malai kofta with extra cream, but alas, that was not the case here. It was close to inedible. The naan tasted like grocery store frozen naan: even Trader Joe's makes better naan. The bhindi masala was oily and not too flavourful. We did not dare order more at that point. On the plus side, our server, whose first day on the job it was, was super sweet. He made sure we were well-looked after, and gave us complimentary masala chai. The chai was lukewarm and overly milky, with little fresh masala. The decor consists of stereotypically Indian art of dubious quality. The seats were comfortable, and the restaurant was filled with South Asian people, which usually bodes well for an Indian restaurant. I continue to be baffled by that. It's entirely possible that it was just a bad day for the chef, but I don't think I want to risk another visit. Overall, as much as I want to support Indian restaurants in the city, I cannot in good faith recommend Maharaj.

In a neighborhood packed with serious restaurant competition, Kama manages to carve out a distinct lane: refined, flavor-forward Indian food that still feels recognizably Indian and approachable. The space is beautiful--dark, romantic, and sultry without being overdone, with dramatic murals and a moody glow that makes it feel like a proper night-out destination. It's polished but comfortable--perfect for date nights, celebrations, or a dressed-up family dinner like ours. They were especially kind and welcoming, even with our child and an early Sunday reservation. Service * Warm reception and easy seating for an early family dinner * Knowledgeable server who walked us through dishes thoughtfully * Celebrated my parents' anniversary with complimentary champagne and a sparkler dessert moment * Attentive pacing throughout Drinks * Smoke Show Manhattan - bourbon americano, Amaro Lusano, crème de cacao, walnut bitters; slightly sweet, smoky, and beautifully balanced * Pisco Inferno - pisco, mango, and passion fruit chutney; bright, layered, and vibrant with subtle heat * Cocktail program feels intentional and refined Starters * Sweet Potato Chaat - vibrant, flavorful, and nicely balanced * Lamb Tacos - small but packed with flavor; great shareable bites Portions on starters are on the smaller side, which works well if you want to sample several. Mains (all paired with rice) * Black Cod Kerala Curry - standout dish; outrageously flavorful and rich * Chilean Sea Bass Molly - delicate, beautifully cooked, and a hit at the table * Butter Chicken - classic and well-executed * Achari Curry (Chicken) - solid but the least impressive of the group We also added garlic naan and naan, though the curries already come with rice. The lemon rice was especially notable-- fully infused and bold rather than lightly scented. Dessert * Chai Tiramisu - a creative twist with cardamom and warm Indian spice notes; familiar structure, elevated flavor Verdict Kama's West Loop location delivers a complete dining experience--beautiful setting, thoughtful service, and deeply layered curries that stand out in a crowded restaurant corridor. The lamb patty on its own was not only soft and well-seasoned, but also brimming with flavor. Then I took a bite of the whole thing and temporarily bounced up to food heaven. The herbaceous, savory, and earthy notes of their chimmichutney took the burger to another level. The veggies added some additional freshness, with the avocado and mayo contributing even more savory notes. Big bonus points for a fresh bun, too! On messiness: The container was small enough that I could barely slide my hands in to grab the burger. This, combined with the somewhat slippery chimmichutney, meant that keeping the burger together was a difficult and losing battle. No worries - less chimmichutney would mean less flavor, and I have no issues eating anything (burgers included) with a fork.
