This sub shop was a random find while driving east on I-80 through Pennsylvania. It was dinner time and we were getting hungry. I suggested looking up sandwich shops and of the list of places, Newberry Sub Shop, was the random pick. Located in a picturesque area of Williamsport, PA, and a decent trek off from I-80, Newberry is a local, mom & pop type shop that is popular among the locals. Their menu offers a nice variety of sub sandwiches which is what we were interested in. The shop is a counter-service type establishment. Menu is on the wall and also on paper near the ordering counter. There's a small dining area inside the shop and also, an outdoor seating area. We were taking our food to go. We ordered 1) cold Salami Sub and 1) Mushrooms and Bell Peppers Cheesesteak with cherry (hot) peppers. We also grabbed a local brand of spicy jalapeno flavored potato chips. We received good, friendly service. The staff was helpful to us in deciding what we wanted to order. The menu items were reasonably priced and you got good bang for your buck. The sandwiches were huge and loaded. Both the sandwiches were good. I got the cheesesteak and it hit the spot. The meat was well-cooked and flavorful, and the veggies and the cheese added a delicious taste. My only gripe about the cheesesteak was that the bread was very soft where the sandwich fell apart due to how hot (temp.) the cheesesteak was, thus making for a sloppy eating experience. But that's why you have utensils like fork. The Salami sandwich was also delicious. The chips were okay. They were a bit salty for my liking and not quite spicy. Overall, this was like a hidden gem of a find for us (since we were visitors passing by and not locals). I would like to have more of their other offerings. I am not sure when I'll be back in that area but suffice to say that I will be going back to Newberry when I return to this part of Pennsylvania in the future. Check out Newberry. Small clean unassuming shop with great AC in the summer time plus nice round picnic tables with good umbrellas, and gorgeous flowers all around the exterior. The food!! We've been getting cheese steaks from here for years, though this is my first visit. Overflowing with yummy cheese steak, with fresh toppings to order on perfectly soft roll. We haven't tried anything else but surely it's aa good! They have a Pepsi fountain, both Utz AND Middleswarth chips! And a cooler of even more beverage choices. The cheese steaks are pretty good the quantity is where this place makes its hay, the subs are pretty huge, and the price reflects there size the large cheese steak is basically two meals for a normal person. They have very good hot peppers to go on your sub. They are usually pretty busy so sometimes you have to be prepared to wait a little bit. Not much room to eat in, just a table or two and maybe some outdoor seating, more of a grab and go type sub shop really. read more

This place used to be one of the best places in town. Now they've really gone downhill in terms of service. The girls there are mean and pretentious, especially the little blonde kid that should definitely not be working with customers. Expect insults, nasty comments, and a bunch of smashed food from her slamming it around while she treats you like a nuisance. Food is still ok but kind of expensive for what you get. the bar across the street has amazing food for a fraction of the price, so I'd suggest save your money and go there. I'm assuming there's new ownership or something, which sucks but no one can live forever I guess. read more

Wonderful hoagies, used to be the VERY BEST....now, I'm just not that sure about it. The girls work their asses off when it's busy and they used to be friendly, I'm sure they made a very good amount of money, as they fixed the place up some. They were better before the renovation. This place has really good sandwiches. It's a no frills hoagie place. Parking isn't the best and the place is small, but has some seating inside. The prices are really good. This is coming from someone used to city prices though, so I'm not sure how the pricing compares to other places in the area. They get busy so sometimes you might have to call a couple times to get through, though the wait usually isn't too long. The rolls are soft and delicious but don't get soggy or fall apart. The cheesesteaks are tasty, but not really my thing. I prefer chicken cheesesteaks, but Newberry uses thighs for theirs so I've never tried it. I want breast meat for a chicken cheesesteak. The cold hoagies are good too. I love the turkey. The meat is high quality and the sandwiches are pretty big and awesome. The absolute best thing here is the hot peppers. You can get them on your sandwiches or they also sell them by the jar. I try to always get a jar when I'm in town so that I can have the peppers at home. They're hot and a bit oily, but they spread really well on any sandwiches. read more

I stopped in here with a travel partner who wanted a "real sub". The decor is typical gritty central PA style sandwich shop; which isn't a bad thing... we didn't come here to stare at the walls! There is a sign on the front door which warns patrons not to walk on with tar on their boots or else... (I'm wondering if tarry boots are common in this area of central PA?) Arrived before noon and ordered a pepperoni cosmo with the works. The gals behind the counter sang along with eighties hits while they whipped up the sandwich which was mostly entertaining, not terrible... I gave the performance a 6 out of 10. Sandwich was taken out and it was perfect (10/10) Couldn't have asked for better. I would like to return for another before we head back up to Alaska! FYI: they don't take cards here but have an ATM on site if you're short on paper money. read more

I Was in williamsport to do some work and seen the place while searching for places close to eat and figured I give it a try. Wasnt real crowded at the time I went in. Ordered a large cheesesteak no sauce peppers and mushrooms . It was fairly good nice size for large . I would say worth the money . Bad side- waited 40 minutes to get it. Also watched customers that ordered after me get there food in like 10 minutes ( no they didnt call in i watched them place orders at the counter ) Would I go back ? More then likely read more

Newberry sub shop is a nice small neighborhood restaurant that locals are familiar with. They're mostly you take out restaurant there is seating available if you want to dine in. I did a walk in order and the service was fast and friendly. These cheesesteaks are probably the best I've had since I've moved from eastern Pennsylvania near Philadelphia. Ordered a large cheesesteak sub January 2017. They do run about $11 per sub. Juicy, perfectly melted cheese, tender steak, delicious!, fulfilling, A++. Only downside: wish there were a bit more onions and tomato on the sandwich. I highly recommend a cheesesteak sub from this shop. I've been to Philly and tried several joints there. I honestly don't know why people rave about this place. The location is a shit hole and the parking is a nightmare. The subs are average at best. The buns are soggy from the the oil they drench on it. They make their cheese steaks with American cheese! That should be a crime. Who uses American cheese on a cheese steak? Ugh god, Pat and Geno would burn this place down if they knew that. Make sure you ask for no oil and Provolone if you do order here! It's imperative. Better yet, go up the street to Maseto's.
