This office is unprofessional, heartless, and deceitful. Recently I rushed a bearded dragon over who suddenly appeared gravely unwell - this happened to be 3 days after they performed surgery on her. After speaking with Dr Acevedo and agreeing there was nothing that could be done for her I was handed a "pre-invoice" for $212.80 for euthanasia, which I agreed to. At the same time the office person WATCHED as I signed the form to receive the ashes back. AT NO POINT was it expressed that this would be an additional $195. And truthfully had she simply said it, I would have paid without hesitation. Instead she swiped my card and sent me on my way. It wasn't until I looked at the bank account later that I saw the pending charge for $423.86. She was intentionally deceitful. And aside from being deceitful it was 100% a coward move on her part. When I called to inquire about the doubled cost her excuse for not handing me accurate pricing was that I was being "standoffish" in the exam room. How dare I be out of sorts while I am there to euthanize a family member?! I have spent over $6800 at NVH since our first visit in late October - and this is how you treat a client on the day they're in for euthanasia? You should all be ASHAMED of yourselves. I asked Dr Steinbeiser to call so I could personally tell her why I wouldn't be returning to the practice. She never did. read more

I could write a really long review explaining everything that has happened in the last 6 months, but I will spare you. This place has gone downhill since Dr. Flanagan and Dr. Toso left. The doctors that are there now clearly do not know what they are doing when it comes to complicated issues. Dr. Acevedo is the worst. He lied to us twice now about our dogs conditions. Our last visit last week, and the doctor wouldn't even address the issue that we came in for because it was the same issue that Dr. Acevedo said was resolved (it's not an issue that just pops in and out). So had they done x-rays like I wanted, then we would've known he lied to me. I knew more was wrong so I took my dog to another vet this week. A very caring, knowledgeable vet who actually spent time explaining my dogs condition to me and answering my questions instead of telling me I was being paranoid. One month ago today, I brought my parrot Isaiah in to see one of the avian specialist to check for feather loss some parrots get parasites and I wanted to make sure it wasn't because of that. That morning, my dog was playing with him like all my animals do he was part of the family. In their written report They said he was attacked by my dog, which is not the truth at all!!! Every procedure that is done cost money, and as the other Yelp reviews say the same thing it's all about the money read the reviews. The other reviews Also say they have called many times and their calls were never returned just like what happened to me. He suffered a bruise and that's why they did the x-rays, but the x-rays revealed nothing was Wrong He died in their care six hours later. I had an autopsy done, that revealed Isaiah did die because of his heart murmur and because of the sedation that was performed.that's why if a parrot has a heart murmur they should have a cardiovascular check up to make sure his heart was strong enough and no abnormalities. I have a long time friend who has been a Vet technician since 1988 had said the same thing. Autopsies do not lie and cannot be disputed!! I called the Vets office at least five times that I wanted to speak to Dr. Steinbeiser about Isaiah's death. No one ever returned my phone calls.(If People have nothing to hide They hide nothing)They didn't even ask for the report of the autopsy, Because they are afraid of a malpractice suit. I know this is long, but I have to add one more thing if I can save one more parrot there is a vet at Hudson highlands in Beacon, New York Dr Grodio is currently on staff for avian and exotic medicine in New York City and is the owner of avian home veterinary care. She works exclusively with parrots birds and exotic animals. Also she is a board certified in Avian practice by the American Board of veterinarian practitioners. If I only knew this, I have so much guilt. This would've never happened if I was there with Isaiah at Newburgh veterinary Hospital I have an auto immune disease and I was very ill at the time and couldn't make the right decision so my husband had to take him, and he also feels the guilt and there was no emergency contact after hours which which states absolutely any reputable veterinary hospital should provide an emergency contact number for situations where your pet experiences a critical issue outside of regular operating hours this is considered standard practice and allows you to reach a veterinarian for an immediate advice and care in an emergency. I called guardian veterinarian Emergency in Middletown, New York. They work with Newburgh veterinary hospital. They're open 24 hours on Sundays and Saturdays. I called On Saturday at 12:15 PM and they told me they don't work with parrots or exotic animals only cats and dogs. Unbelievable!!! Sunday night September 7th at 5:36PM I called Newburgh Veterinary Hospital- I pressed the number it said for an emergency. At this point I'm thinking they'll get me in soon or refer me to a 24 hour hospital for my dog who was very lethargic not moving etc. after I pressed the number for an emergency I was told "ok can you do 11am tomorrow?" Now I'm think what's the point of pressing a number for an emergency when you can press another number for an apt. Whatever. Something kept telling me my dog wasn't going to make it. After my husband got home we decided to take her to a local hospital that we were referred to by Flannery because they were closed per their fb page which also was the referral. We arrived at the Kingston hospital where they took her in right away- asked us to sit tight for 30 minutes until her blood work came back. Per her blood work her one level was high showing how severely dehydrated she was which caused her red blood cells to increase because when dehydrated it causes there blood to thicken. They said we recommend keeping her over night for fluids and monitoring and we will do blood work again in the morning please be here by 7am tomorrow to pick her up. Great. I arrive at 6:45am- the doctor comes out and states she was very very very dehydrated and needs to go to her vet right from here to continue fluids. Her levels dropped from 77 to 60 but wanted it to be a little lower. So I take her to NVH- I get into a room I explain to the nurse the hospital stay with papers of records etc. she says ok let me go relate this to the doctor and the doctor will be right in. Doctor comes in diagnosing my dog with two different things. 1. Pancreatitis and 2. Something where she's not able to hold her own pee I don't remember the word. Mind you, no blood work was done with them, Kingston hospital fully explained to me she doesn't have pancreatitis because they also ran blood work for it. Kingston hospital also left the IV catheter in her arm and gave us a bag of fluid because I paid for it to help on cost. Now the doctor is diagnosing her with things tells me she needs to stay for 5 days etc etc. I ask ok, what's the estimate looking like for this? I'm thinking about another 2k like the Kingston hospital. I started asking questions that this second nurse presented me with the bill. She got so nasty and so defensive the look on her face I thought she wanted to hit me. Now I don't over exaggerate but at this point in my mind I felt uncomfortable. So I wait for the doctor who comes in. Dr Clark. "Hi I hear you have questions?" Yes, why are you charging me for fluids , and an IV catheter when I told you as well as two nurses it's still on her arm in the hot bright pink cast. "Oh we can take that off". Now I'm wondering well if there charging for unnecessary things what else am I being charged for. Right?. So I presented compassion NVH estimate and they laughed and said this is crazy. Compassion said - listen based on what your saying with the corso making the water bowl dirty which I explained to all doctors because this is why she's dehydrated but I didn't realize it was happening is she didn't wanna drink from the same water bowl because of the corso drool. Compassion said lets run her hydration levels and let's keep her for a few hours give her the fluids you have and go from there but based on the Kingston documents and your story it sounds like she's just dehydrated however if she doesn't get better we'll do more testing but let's do this first. Presented me with a 400$ and change estimate and states the miscellaneous charge is for anything we may need while she's here however it'll most likely come off the bill and the fluids will possibly come off as long as we won't need to give her anymore then what you provided. My bill came to 200$ and change. My dog was healthy and 100% better. We are a week into this and my girl is happy and healthy and back to her normal self and now has her own water bowl! NVH is a scam, and was beyond disrespectful. Mind you NVH still charged me over 200$ for nothing. read more

Five years, multiple pets, and thousands of dollars later. I will never support an establishment that cares more about money than the animals. I contacted Newburgh Veterinary Hospital in tears because my house just burned down. I only had the clothes on my back but was able to get my beloved fur babies. The only reason I was able to get myself out and my disabled mother was because the family dog Epona alerted us that there was a fire. Epona's tenacity to get my attention since my mom is partially deaf is worth its weight in gold. Epona was the reason that my mom, 2 cats, 2 turtles, and I were able to get out of the burning house. Unfortunately, Epona and the 2 cats were burned and inhaled a lot of smoke. My mom and I were worried about our fur babies that survived a fire but needed medical attention. So we called the vet that we've gone to for the last 5 years. Due to Epona's extreme allergies repeat vet visits were a common occurrence. Newburgh Veterinary Hospital said they couldn't help us or put us on a payment plan in such a dismissive annoyed tone it broke my heart to be treated in such a manner. We then scrambled to call another vet and called VCA Flannery Animal Hospital in New Windsor. The treatment was night and day in comparison. I explained the situation and was told to bring Epona, and the 2 cats Sasha & Shiba right away. Sasha & Shiba are 10-month kittens that were in the heart of the fire and due to the smoke inhalation were coughing and sneezing so they were prescribed meds. Epona had burns all over and was also prescribed meds. Flannery Animal Hospital in New Windsor worked with us financially and was empathetic to our situation. I have always had pets and I always will and if I am going to spend thousands of dollars at an establishment I want to support the place of business that values my furbabies' lives. Great experience. They gave me a same day appointment when I called distressed in the morning because my cat ate a bunch of foam. They were very transparent about payments and gave me itemized estimates for any new thing they did. They don't seem to have people overnight check the animals so it gave me a bit anxiety throughout the night. But my cat ended up being fine. I would've paid extra for peace of mind but that wasn't possible unfortunately. Please do not subject your dog to this hospital of horrors. If I could put 0 stars for this hospital, I would. I was so in love with this vet until they showed their true colors as money hungry extortionists. My puppy was severely ill due to the negligence and multiple false diagnostics. We spent in total over $8,000 at this place for our 11 month year old puppy (not to mention the monet we spent going to 2 other emergency vets because this place would send her home when she was still severely ill and needed professional treatment) to be unneccessarily operated on twice, which only caused further trauma and health conditions for her. Our pup was subjected to in and out hospitalization for a whole month just to run our bill up as much as they could. The last straw for us was the most traumatic and telling. Our pup was diagnoed with a "Stricture." I believe this means food is not passing through the stomach. Dr. Toso ringed us that food was not passing through our pup's stomach and that our puppy would need a THIRD surgery and only had a 30% chance of surviving, so euthinization was on the table. Due to the trauma she had already endured and for the sake of her quality of life, we agreed. When we called to schedule her euthinization, another doctor answered saying that at that time, it was a hasty decision to put her down at that time and food was passing through. Two doctors in a matter of 20 minutes had informed us of two drastically different stories. How does one say an 11 year old puppy needs to be put down while the other says no? Inexperienced money hungry vets that needed even MORE money to the very end. Not to mention, for the final stages of her stay, due to the amount of time and money spent there, we were told we would not be charged any further. When our pup was discharged, she was held hostage when we would not pay an extra $2,500 which was knocked down to $1,700 after we were told many times no more charges would be incurred due to what our puppy and us went through. Every visit, procedure, or test had an invoice that was to be signed and authorized by us as a family. This was not the case. In this case, they held our dog hostage until we paid them $1,700 when there was never an invoice shown to us, there was no written document of what was even done for her for $1,700, and there was definitely no signing of authorization. For the fear of our dog's safety, we coughed up the money to get her back in which a staff member rudely brought our dog back to us, dropping her leash, and slamming the door behind her not even looking her or our way. We ended up taking our pup to Guardian Animal Hospital in Brewster, as she was still severely sick, and every diagnosis that Newburgh "found" was not the case. The "Stricture" Newburgh diagnosed her with was far from true. Guardian was able to identify the legitimate issue and administer the proper care, medications, and treatment plan for her. Our puppy that "had a 30% chance to live" and was almost euthinized due to negligence and inexperienced vets is happy, running around like a bullet, social, eating beautifully, and is in overall excellent shape after what she endured thanks to Guardian! That was another $4,500 which we were glad to pay considering they treated our pup like family and they actually found out what was wrong with our pup (in 5 days, where Newburgh took a month and misdiagnosed her various times) and provided her with the proper treatment plan. In total, we have paid about $15,000 for the care of our puppy, whereas we could have just paid the $4500 from Guardian and our dog and our family would never have suffered the physical and mental trauma that we did. All I can say is I don't know how these people are still in business based on our experience along with the traumatic, unfortunate experiences listed on this Yelp page. I wish I had looked at these from the start, because I can't image what my girl went through, the pain she was feeling, and I really can't image what other customers have been through with this place. read more

We had been taking our pup to NVH since we got her. Purchased the new pup package. All good...right? Nope. Our 11 month old got a hold of a bottle of medication and was throwing up. So we bring her to NVH to have her looked at. NVH does an xray and sees a white mass in her abdomen. So they cut her open and nothing. $3700 please and thank you. She's all good and take her away. Give her these pills. Take her home and she's still not eating. Throwing up. We take her to a cliser vet and he gives her a shot to make her feel better. $300 thank you very much. A friend works at a vet in Middletown and take a look at the dog and tells us she's not well and you need to get her up here to be looked at. Dehydrated. Xrays. $2700. They did what they could and told us to bring her to our primary vet the next morn. In come NVH again. The give a sonogram and see fluid in stomach and perforated stomach now. $4600 please BUT we're capping it at $4600 as per the famed Melissa. They cut her open again and were to keep her for 7-12 days after being it's a major surgery. 5 days later the send her home. I guess the $4600 wasn't cutting it anymore. They tell us please call us if anything doesnt change. More pills. Dog still not eating. Not moving. We call and they say she has a 30% chance to live. Dr. Toso. 30%. If she continue putting the dog to sleep is on the table. Friday comes and she's not better. We, as a family, decide putting her down is the humane thing to do on the semi-advice of Dr. Toso. We're all getting ready to go say our goodbyes. I call to give the ok amto uthanize and get weekend doctor Harlec. She says uthanization is still on the table but she sees a little progress and would like to wait a few days to see how she does. If she's not better uthanization is STILL on the table. I ask "how much is this going to cost"? Dr. Harlec says "I'm under the impression this is not costing anything. You've spent a lot of money here". I say absolutely...do what you can being it's costing nothing. They call an say were releasing your dog Sunday and she has to learn to eat at home or uthannization is still on the table. At that point we decide to bring her Sunday to Guardian vet in Brewster with all the state of the art equipment. We go to pick up our dog and they hand us a bill for $2200 for the 3 days. I refused to pay it because we were told there was no charge eing we spent so much money already. Oh no. We can't not charge. We'll take $1700 according to a phone call made to the owners (yup..Dr Dasaro & Friedman are the owners). I said no. It was no charge. Now get this......They said to me they would not release my sick dog until I paid them! I never authorized ANY OF THIS TREATMENT after the roller coaster ride of Uthanization. None of it. I had to pay the ransom of $1700 to release my dog so i can take it to a real vet in Brewster. When Guardian in Brewster examined her they told us there was NO STRICTURE (LIKE NVH told us that was preventing her from eating). $4200 later my 11 month old puppy is running. Alert. Playful. Eating. Pooping. And all the stuff an 11 month old puppy does because of Guardian. You want to get your pets nails trimmed....NVH can probably do that. You have a more serious problem find another vet. They'll charge you when youre most vulnerable and put the dog down at the end to get rid of the evidence. Buyer beware. BEWARE! My dog caught an illness while boarding during Memorial Day. A little bit of back information; my dog is pad trained and goes outside to a small private yard. He is not in contact with any other dogs aside from boarding. I have used Newburgh Vet boarding facility many times in the past with no issues, however this time I had a horrible experience. The first red flag was the condition of my dog's belongings upon pick up. His dog bed was covered in urine and he had a urine soaked blanket that did not belong to him sent home as well. He was missing his mummy toy, but that was not a huge issue. The major problem occurred when he arrived home. He ran straight to the wee wee pad and let out a large puddle of yellow/orange diarrhea. I chalked it up to possibly ingesting a treat or food at boarding that didn't agree with his stomach. This was not the case, he continued to have explosive diarrhea. He also threw up some clear liquid a few times. I notified Newburgh vet of the issue and was told that my pet would be looked over free of charge. I brought my dog down to the vet, and the vet checked his temperature, listened to his heart, and palpated his stomach. I had also brought a stool sample being that whatever he contracted must be contagious and possibly detectable in stool. The vet declined to test the stool and stated that we would start with blood work, minutes later a tech comes in with a $800.00 + bill for bloodwork. Absolutely not! I requested that the stool be checked for giardia but was refused by the vet, she stated that being that he vomited it CAN NOT be giardia! I took my dog and stool sample and left. A relative once had a dog that contracted giardia and stated that the stool appeared to look exactly the same. My dog had a fecal exam 3 days prior to drop off and was totally fine. I am 100% sure that he contracted his illness during his time in boarding. The worst part is the lack of interest in testing the stool for contagious pathogens! My dog is currently taking panacur-c and his loose BMs have slowed down leading me to believe that he contracted Giardia in boarding! read more

I wish I had listened to others reviews regarding this vet. I would strongly recommend reading reviews before you take your animals anywhere. This veterinary is very money hungry, one of the most expensive vets I have ever been too, but had no choice because they were the only ones to take my cat on the weekend. I was even overcharged at another visit until I noticed my bill was too high, so be wary of this. I ended up switching to another vet that I felt was much more concerned for my cats health and prescribed more natural meds specifically for my cats illness. Unfortunately, my cat had passed away a month after first visiting Newburgh, but felt she could have lived a little longer had she had gotten better care sooner. The doctor my cat saw was inexperienced, I was even told this by the front desk that she is new. They referred a different doctor at this practice who is more familiar with her illness. When I heard the first doctor my cat saw was new and not experienced my heart instantly dropped. This was the last thing I wanted to hear... that same doctor also asked me if I wanted to pay almost an extra $100 for them to get a second opinion. I have NEVER had a vet ask this. If I was taking my animal to a certain vet, I am expecting this vet to take care of everything. If they needed a second opinion, then why am I going to you in the first place? There are plenty of other vets out there with much more compassion, experience and are trustworthy. I gave them one star because the staff was friendly, and there was not a heavy smell of urine in the air. The prices, and the tactics they use to get your service are just sleezy. It's hard to be mad at them; moreover, I am disappointed that they are so money hungry. On my first visit I was quoted service starting at $600 and ranging all the way up to 2,000+ dollars. Find another place if you are looking for care on a budget. The clinic is so shabby, I can't imagine what they are spending the money on. I smelled pretty clean but... I took my baby Sinbad as he was not eating and minimal activity for a second opinion after not being taken seriously by Flannery (flanery touched his stomach and gave him a shot for his appetite and sent him home, two days later he was worse i took him again and with no dr. on site they wanted to keep him) I took him to newburgh veterinary and they perform an actual Dr. visit taking all vitals, blood test, temperature I mean complete examination, which is what i took him to the vet originally. my pet was prescribed medication to hold him up until the blood results came back. I would have to say the Dr. was extremely empathetic, extremely knowledgeable on all issues and supplied me with all the information needed to move to the next level, my Cat had bone marrow cancer and past on, DR Carolyn Steinbeiser stayed in touch with me thru out the process she called with concerns not only for him but also to make sure we were ok. I'm really shocked at all the bad reviews posted here. Newburgh Vet has been my neighborhood vet for years. I brought my senior cat to them first, and they took such excellent care of him for his last years, even teaching me to give him subcutaneous fluids at home when he was severely dehydrated during his last year. They were incredibly kind when I did have to make the decision to let him go, and have been equally kind with my two new cats. Staff and vets have all been wonderful, for 16 years. There are the occasional long waits when they're super busy, but nothing not understandable. Admittedly, I don't have a dog, but most of the patients with dogs seem glad to be there. As we were looking for a new vet for our dogs (our long-time vet was retiring), a friend suggested All Creatures in New Paltz. All Creatures is a branch of Newburgh Vet. Our initial visit to All Creatures was great. The receptionist was super nice and the vet was attentive to both our sixteen year old dog and our newly-adopted rescue. All of us left feeling good. Things have gone downhill from there. Appointment setting for All Creatures and prescription refills are managed by the Newburgh office. More than once, my husband and I have encountered the wrath of Melissa, one of the front desk or administrative staff in Newburgh. She has consistently been condescending, including once telling my husband, "This is a clinic. You can't just bring your dog in for a rabies shot." FYI, he wasn't attempting to just "drop in." The last straw came yesterday. Melissa was ruder and more condescending than ever before. As we have done several times, our request for a prescription refill was sent into the Newburgh office. The request was rejected without explanation. The request is for heart medication for our now seventeen year old dog. Without the medication, her heart will beat irregularly and fluid will build up in her chest cavity, risking death by suffocation. Melissa called in response to a message I left earlier in the day. Despite the fact that I left my name, my dog's name and the reason, Melissa clearly had listened to none of this. She assumed I was my husband, insisting that she had spoken with me yesterday, "I ALREADY told you . . ." (My husband had called the day before about our other dog). I attempted to explain that I was not my husband and I was not calling about that dog. Immediately, Melissa talked over me. I sighed and said, "It is going to be tough to have a conversation if you won't allow me to speak." It got worse from there. Instead of apologizing for not reading or listening to my message, Melissa berated me for us calling them two days in a row, "You and your HUSBAND should get your communication together instead of wasting our time." She also put me on hold twice, for a total of just over five minutes, for no discernible reason. Melissa insisted that we bring our seventeen year-old dog in for a rabies shot BEFORE she would refill the position. I explained that I was happy to schedule an appointment, but was unaware one was needed. We had received no notice. I also explained that between the limited hours of the New Paltz office and my full time work schedule, I wasn't sure we could get her in before her pills ran out. Melissa responded, "Maam, that's what you have to do. I can't approve the refill without the shot." When I offered that a rabies shot wouldn't really matter if the dog died because her medication ran out (a real possibility, as their vet explained to me a year ago), Melissa was unmoved. I should also add that Melissa called me "Maam" throughout our call, despite the fact that she had my name and in spite of my correcting her politely the first time she did it. This happens to me often. I have an androgynous voice, the result of a vocal chord injury. I find that when a person persists, it is meant to annoy or intimidate and that it is often homophobic. I eventually lost all patience with Melissa in a way that I have not since the days of having a teenage son at home. She was as irrational and disrespectful as an angry teen. The bottom line? We called our former vet. Our long-time vet has returned to work (retirement not for him, I guess) and our request for the prescription was filled that day. No hassles. I considered writing Drs. Daraso and Friedman at Newburgh Vet via email or letter to let them know of our experience, but given Melissa's consistently unfriendly and controlling demeanor, I'm relatively certain our letter would be intercepted before reaching them. The only reason that I gave them a 4 instead of a 5 was because of the cost. Newburgh Vet was wonderful in their treatment of my cat that had gotten bitten by another animal (not sure what it was). They took wonderful care of her and were very efficient during the Covid period where we could not go in with her. So friendly and compassionate! But moving here from NYC - I am still in shock about how much vet care costs up here! But - at least I found a place that I can trust with my cats! read more

If I could leave a zero start rating I would!! I am beyond disgusted by Newburgh veterinary "Hospital". I'm not sure where to even begin. First off their reception staff has no compassion and no hearts what so ever. They are THE most unprofessional team I've ever encountered. Melissa has hung up on me numerous times, lied to me over the phone when I asked to speak with a doctor. She told me one of the doctors was in a car accident (even though she wasn't) so I can't speak with a doctor. The entire 4 days ash was hospitalized they never once called her by her name. They kept referring to her as The ferret... I think that's so disrespectful. This place including the doctors on staff here are just simply out for money. That's a hard thing for me to say as I am a veterinary technician myself and work in the field. My poor little ferret was misdiagnosed from the start. She never had a fighting chance yet I was told oh yeah she's doing great now you'll be able to bring her home, meanwhile she was actually so very sick she was critically ill and she was suffering. If I had know any of this I would have euthanized her from the very beginning if I had just been able to see her condition myself. $2800 later and I finally get told oh Kara ash has a very uncommon illness that is fatal so the right thing to do is euthanize her. While I was in the building waiting for them to euthanize her all's I hear from the receptionist is " She works at dermatology aka the fake veterinary technician" Disgusting behavior! The doctors on staff here are just as bad as the reception team. I got told by the doctor here that I'm lying and I am not a veterinary technician that I just want the treatment for free. So the next morning I had my doctor at the practice I work at call her. She had zero to say. She told him ash was improving and in the right path meanwhile her and every doctor there knew ash was critically ill from the start and did not have a fighting chance. All's they seen was $$. Newburgh hospital, Staff members and Doctors have failed me and my poor little girl. They should all be ashamed of them selfs for the poor treatment of my ferret and myself. We've been taking our dog Niko here since moving to Newburgh 3 years ago because the staff treats him like a part of the family. Niko recently had an unexpected 2 week stay including surgery and we felt comfortable trusting Newburgh Vet and putting Nikos life in their hands. Do not take ur pet here. As I see in the reviews, I am not the only one Melissa deliberately and disgustingly attacked and disrespected and I can tell by her only responding to the negative reviews on here that they're all truthful because I witnessed it and that's very unprofessional. My 7 month old kitten was taken there due to dehydration and walking funny, I was told to keep her there for 4 days to figure out the cause. Well throughout the 4 days I would call and check in on lab results and just to speak to somebody is the hardest task! I was hung up on, disregarded and kept getting told I would get a call back. The 4 days all they could tell me was she was "comfortable", no info on the condition. Well the 4th day I call to see what's going on, no answer except they will call me back in a few minutes. 3 hours later I call THEM and they tell me I need a neurologist immediately because all her issues are "neurological". Isn't it funny I wasn't told this on the first day when they say they X Rayed and took bloodand found nothing ? Why is it so urgent I take her when you did nothing for her for 4 days? Thirsty for money. That's all. I spent 2k and was sent to Oradell hospital even though I suggested Brewster to see a neurologist, drove 2 hours just for them to tell me they didn't have a neurologist in for 3 days! Newburgh told me she would be seen by one immediately ! I am furious! Now a few days pass I ask for her records so I can take her to a new hospital, speaking to Melissa at this point trying to explain why I need my pet records 3 separate phone calls (she would NOT send them!) while she continuously insisted she send them to the vet hospital I was going to. I say no I would like her records to have and it's followed by her rude laugh and starts talking over me every time I speak. At this point I am disgusted by the service so I tell her straight up do not disrespect me I am a paying customer who just invested 2k into your business so the least you can do is let me speak without interruption !!!!!!!! So after dealing with this miserable cold hearted lady going back and forth with a respectful paying customer with a dying pet, she says she will send it immediately. A whole day later still no email of the records. I call and ask to speak to a manager, Melissa is put on the call (I did not know she was manager because of her unprofessional foul way of speaking) and I explain what happened and that the records weren't sent and was replied by her " um first of all I sent them so don't try to tell me I didn't do something I did ... blah blah " and starts running her unprofessional mouth at this point I will never ever bring my pets there and that's all I told her. You should not be a vet if you don't care the health of your patients. I have 4 cats and a dog I've seen many vets and this is by far the worst place to go! She will reply to the review like she does all the others because she doesn't like to be put in her place but I strongly recommend Not to take any animal you care about here. They don't care. Btw I took my pet to guardian hospital (a place Newburgh strongly didn't recommend ) and they were the most lovely people I've met in the animal industry. I'm a little confused as to all the negative reviews. We first went to Newburgh Vet when our first dog had bloody diarrhea shortly after getting her as a puppy in the early 90s. A closer vet refused us and said they don't 'treat that type of issue.' My mother found Newburgh Vet based off a recommendation and they took our dog in right away. They quarantined her at first, afraid it was Parvo, but she ended up being fine. We have gone there ever since. Both of our dogs lived good lives, one was 12, the other 14. They always treated us well and gave our pets loving care, right to the end. When we got a cat 2 years after our second dog died, we brought him right back. Dr Friedman was so excited to see us - and also immediately diagnosed and eye problem that our cats previous owner had been told could not be corrected. They performed surgery (and charged us the bottom of the range as it was expensive and we'd been customers for so long). When our cat's eye was not healing right, they did another surgery free of charge. He is now healthy and happy and has no more swollen/gooky eye problems! My mother ended up moving to NJ and I moved to NYC after grad school. My biggest regret is that I could not take my own cat to see Dr Friedman as I truly trust her (and Manhattan vets are so expensive..) That being said, my own kitty has had ear infection issues and Dr. Friedman has been kind enough to talk to me over the phone about her issues, and recommend vets here based on what she knows of their reputations. Right now, my vet in NYC has recommended my cat get a surgery (for a WHOPPING $5,000). Dr Friedman has requested her medical records and said if she feels they can do the surgery in Newburgh, I'd save at least $2,000. I feel terrible that anyone has had negative experiences at Newburgh Vet. My pets have always received the best care there. To be fair, we've also only ever gone to Dr. Friedman so I cannot speak for other doctors/or an emergency situation as our only emergency was in like 1995. I'd post no stars if I could, but 1 is the lowest I could. My dog needed surgery for a perineal hernia and a castration. I had been to this veterinarian once prior and had a pleasant experience, so I thought I would try them for these services as I live nearby. I was quoted an approximate price of $1,700.00 which the young lady said may even end up being lower as they were quoting "high" based on other soft tissue surgery. I was very excited about the prospect of the cost being even lower than this as I had been quoted $4,600.00 by a NJ veterinary surgeon and $3,400.00 by a Sullivan County based veterinary surgeon. Before they would schedule surgery, they wanted me to bring my dog in to be examined which was totally understandable. They charged me for this and said they would call me with a firm quote later. I received a call later as promised, however the price they quoted was $5,200.00 ! After I restarted my heart, I reminded them of what was originally quoted along with the potential of an even lower cost, but none of that mattered. They had no viable explanation as to how the quote went from $1,700.00 or less to $5,200.00. I explained to them that I had gotten a quote from another veterinarian of $3,400.00, which was high for me, and had I had an inkling that they were going to more than TRIPLE their original quote, I never would have even bothered to bring my dog there. I requested a refund of the visit fee as I found this to be an extremely deceptive practice, which I was told "wasn't happening". Needless to say, I was very disappointed in the turn of events and gave them plenty of time to change their minds about refunding my money for this. I ended up utilizing the services of Catskill Veterinary Services in Rock Hill. The surgery ended up at less than $2,700.00 inclusive of castration and meds with which I was pleasantly surprised. My dog is doing great and I won't go anywhere else for veterinary services even though they are a 45 minute drive from where I live. If you are going to bring a pet in to them for surgery, get a firm "not to exceed" quote BEFORE bringing your pet in for the pre-surgical exam. If they are not willing to do this, take your pet elsewhere. I will never do business with this place ever again. read more
