If I could give 0 stars I would. We've been coming to this practice since 2022 w/ our 4 cats. We have been fostering & adopting cats for 25+ yrs, along w/ 20+ yrs of TNR. We've always recommended this place to all our friends with pets & new cat parents that adopted from our cat/kitten foster group. We've also invested a great deal of time, energy, trust, and money in this practice. But last week that all changed with a very traumatic experience when we lost our beloved cat Ziggy. It will haunt us for the rest of our lives what we saw, & went through. We were treated very poorly with our eldest cat Ziggy who was the sweetest most gentle little soul. This place is not what it once was after shifting owners. Unfortunately this place is riding on the coattails of its previous good reputation. Ziggy was the cat that changed the minds of people who were afraid or misunderstood them. He greeted anyone who came to our home & would sit on their lap instantly. He also had a keen sense for bad characters, for example we had a repair man & I almost caught him stealing. I knew something was off when Ziggy didn't greet him. Cats have super powers like that, they know when someone isn't kind hearted & is hiding behind a fake mask of smiles. Our little protector is gone & his untimely death could have been prevented. We have yet not received the detailed medical records/receipts of the day he died despite asking multiple requests. We were never made aware of what he was going through despite being told we would be called back in a few minutes & nothing would be done without our approval first. Instead 20 minutes passed. Our bill is astronomical & we feel so trapped by this experience. He started having seizures Dec. '25. We scheduled the 1st visit & they assigned us a new vet that he's never seen & made us feel even more confused because they suggested he might have cancer. We sought a second vet's opinion at another place & they said he still had several years of life, & to continue his special diet & hydration methods. They saw his blood work & did not determine cancer. Then they suggested we go back to our primary vet (this place) & ask to consider kidney disease as the cause of the seizures to receive medicine to stop the seizures. So in March I scheduled another visit with the same concern only to be dismissed again because I didn't agree to x-rays & MRI. She suggested I should think about euthanizing him. She didn't validate the detailed description I provided in order for her to determine what he needed & wasted my time. Ziggy ran out of time thanks to this. They seem to think that a pet parent's descriptions are useless & that a machine can determine it better. At some point she suggested he was "just tired" -- I know the difference between tired & looking off, you know it in your gut! I have spent over $5,000 dollars here & in such a short amount of time to try & get my cat the help he needed. I feel like they just saw dollar signs, not a little soul who needed serious help without exploiting the vulnerability of his situation. Instead I felt like I was going in circles at this place, every time I booked an appointment they ran the same expensive blood test & offered only premium expensive options. If I start asking for more options they'll bring up euthanasia, which was brought up multiple times causing me distress. He was still very much a lively 12 y/o cat, eating well, drinking water, active, performing his tricks, playing with toys & with his step sisters, & improving in his daily activity thanks to the supplement taurine which we started on all our cats last year. When I told her that this supplement was working she doubted & seemed annoyed. Her tone discouraged me from thinking it made any difference at all. The oddest part is how she expressed denial when I told her he was more active but still having motionless episodes aka seizures. He needed medicine. Never again will I set foot here. We feel betrayed after years of being loyal patients. Our trust has been broken with irreversible damage. Ziggy is gone forever & his case was in our opinion mishandled. There was no compassion. They overstepped boundaries that made us very uncomfortable & caused us to question how things transpired. The way they handled Ziggy's case & the poor customer service we received after his death is so painful. They even threatened legal action when we protested our dissatisfaction with their services & lack of billing transparency. Our 1st Amendment rights aren't being considered here. This is a painful nightmare we never thought Ziggy nor us would have to ever endure. It will take us a lot of time to heal due to all the added aggression we received. RIP our sweet baby boy you deserved so much more. read more

A bad couple of days, so off to the vet we went. From the reception/scheduler to Dr. Moore, Vet, Tax and everyone in between a really kind here. They seem to really love dogs I appreciate the consultation, which did not feel rushed so I could decide if I was going to be spending $700 for tests before the decisions were made for me. Being a pet parent is very pricey indeed so definitely consider getting insurance to ease a bit of the financial burden so you can love your four legged furry family member with no resentment lol just kidding read more

I can't thank Community Animal Care enough, or recommend them enough. We've been taking Buddy here since we moved to the area over a decade ago. They have always been fantastic. The doctors, and the entire staff are very professional, and extremely caring. A few years ago, Buddy had to have surgery and stay overnight. It was the first time he's ever not slept at home, but they took great care of him as if he was their own. Yesterday was the day that all pet owners dread. Our beloved Buddy was 16 years old, and it was his time to rest. I can't tell you how comforting and compassionate the whole staff was, especially Dr. Busayawatanasood. She had taken care of Buddy before, and helped us through the process. She made it as stress free as it could be. The entire family was there. All 6 of us. They were very accommodating, and suggested that we could go outside in the back yard. She spread out a blanket on the grass for us. So Buddy's final moments were relaxing on a blanket, under a tree on a beautiful day surrounded by his family. Dr. Busayawatanasood gave us all the time we needed to spend our last moments with him saying goodbye. We are so grateful to Dr. Busayawatanasood and the entire staff at Community Animal Care. This is not the same animal hospital that it was. It has been taken over by new ownership and that's why you see the actual stellar reviews of the former business slowly fading, mixed with actual negative reviews and a bunch of fake reviews, which you can really see under Yelp's "not currently recommended." Written below is my experience at Community Animal Hospital ("CAH") in order to warn others of getting ripped off. On their website, they play up all the vets ivy league education at Cornell, etc, then they basically charge you for it, while you get disorganized, subpar service for your pet. It's equivalent to going to a NYC nightclub and paying thousands of dollars for a forty dollar bottle of liquor to sit at a tiny table. Like another reviewer below, we transferred here from another vet which was getting way too expensive only to find that CAH is a lot more expensive, all while getting the feeling that they're just looking for every way to pull money out of your pocket and put it into theirs in the form of tons of unnecessary shots, tests, procedures. In addition, you must deal with all the new buzz words in their emails and notifications for CAH to attract younger customers and to make excuses for their subpar service, such as, "work-life balance of our employees," etc. It should be the businesses responsibility to deal with issues such as this with their employees not the customers, particularly if the business is price-gouging all their customers. They have used excuses such as inflation, which is believable to an extent, and all other costs going up for their insane prices and upselling, but I've researched and found other vets since, and can say with one-hundred percent confidence that CAH is severely price-gouging their clients. Moreover, during covid, many people adopted animals, and what CAH is doing is cashing in on that. If you have money to burn and not care about the level of care for your pet and just take a vet's word for it, go to CAH. Six-hundred dollars for a small dog's yearly basic check-up is an example of what to expect. Additionally, the new doctor there, who seems so kind and nice, has brought his upsell game from another veterinary business to CAH. I think he's fitting in with CAH perfectly. We moved all our pets out of CAH. I'm sure this review will be buried under a bunch of fake reviews and from old customers who don't realize that this is not the same business, but I don't see CAH holding up this charade for a long time. read more

I started using Community Animal Hospital this spring when I sadly had to say goodbye to my best friend Oliver. I was treated by everyone on the staff with the ut most compassion and support. My Veterinarian is Dr. Jesse Page who is extremely knowledgeable and has a great bedside manner. I had to put Oliver down before the pandemic so they were able to come out to my car where Oliver was more comfortable. Oliver was given an injection to take away his anxiety, and when we were both ready Dr. Page gave him the final injection and he passed quickly and painlessly. I will be bringing my three other pets to Community Animal Hospital from now on. To the entire staff, Thank you so much for your smiles, kindness, patience and compassion. read more

Someone recommended Community Animal Hospital to me after they saw my post on FB and noticed some of the places people were recommending were a little sketchy or overpriced. I took my cat here after he wasn't eating, vomiting etc. They took him the same morning I called and had him out within a few hours. Someone who was familiar with animals and vet prices assured me that Community did a lot of services for my cat and everything was super reasonably priced. I was pretty amazed and thankful to find such an honest animal hospital that's really honest and mindful like that. Also, my cat is recovering really well, they even called a few times, and left voicemails checking on my pet to make sure he was recovering okay. Community Animal Hospital is now Community Animal Care. 'Care' is the key word. We have been with CAC since the 80's, with Dr. Peterson and Dr. Ansley. Since their retirements the 'care' continued with the doctors and staff. Our girls and Louie the Cat are now being taken care of by Dr. Hoffman. Dr. Hoffman continues the legacy of the previous doctors which is to not only care for your pets, but also for you. Dr. Hoffman leaves no stone unturned to help your pet be well, and stay well. Dr. Hoffman listens to your concerns, and asks questions to get the full history on your pet. Also,I have to say the staff are extremely friendly and efficient. read more

My family has been going to Community for years and we have consistently been satisfied. The doctors and staff are capable and caring, and they have made us feel like our pets are their top priority. They can always get us in quickly for both routine and emergency appointments. They provide a variety of services. When our dog was recovering from spinal surgery, Community was able to give her acupuncture treatments which quickened her recovery. I have been using this vet office for close to a year now, and I am satisfied with their services. We recently rescued a Havanese puppy (Pepper), and Dr. Rosie is her vet. Since the initial visit, I felt at ease at the office. The staff, the aides and the doctors are friendly. They do not mind repeating information for me; this is my first puppy so I have several questions. They take my concerns at heart and provide me with impeccable service every time. I use chewy for Pepper's prescription and the vet office has been very prompt to get us the script and to direct us to the medicine Pepper needs. The office also has a portal so it makes it easier to access Pepper's info whenever I need it. They also send reminders for her health check-ups in the mail and via email. Overall, I am very impressed with this office and would recommend them. read more

I was an almost 50 year client of Community. There was a recent change in ownership. Now, they are only interested in money. Example: I had to have a pet euthanized. They now require that you pay before they give the injection. So while someone fiddles with their computer, unsuccessfully, you get to stand there sobbing over the ordeal. Example: A new medication I wanted to try. For 10 pills they charged me just shy of $20. I looked online and found I could buy the same medication for 10 cents. Do the math. Horrible new ownership. They should be ashamed. I have encountered several other former clients who life for similar reasons. Best not to start a disappointing relationship there. read more

I could not be happier with a vet. My husband and I started taking our animals here when we moved to dutchess county. It's still a bit of a drive for us but it's SO worth it. I've been using Community since September 2019 and seeing Dr. Page. Our three dogs and a cat followed her from another practice. The older dog receives acupuncture which has helped him to deal with arthritis. Dr. Page is an excellent diagnostician and communicates very well. Probably the worst experience I have had. My dog has motion sickness and I got prescription from them regarding that. They kept pushing me to buy heart worm preventive from them and their online store and I told them I wanted to buy it online as it was cheaper. They said that's not a problem and they will send the script but now when I ordered the medication online they refused to fill the prescription making bull shit excuses that we don't know how big she will grow. My dog is 21 lbs, she has been putting 2-3lbs a week because they checked her weight and knew that she has grown. I ordered the medication for 24-60lb size and they are saying that they can't fill it because she is 21 lbs even though anyone with common sense knows that within a week she will weigh more, by the time I even get the medication, as she is putting on weight that quickly. Furthermore they tell me I have to bring her in every week for a preventive medicine and buy a monthly pill that only they sell at double the rate it is online. Bottom line: In it for money, give zero shits about your pet. I have to wait a week for my dog to weigh 24 lbs then wait another week to get the medicine and then I. 2 weeks go back to them and then have another weigh in. All this knowing that my dog has severe motion sickness and pukes every time I take her to them. For a preventive medicine they are making it excessively hard to obtain and trying to make me just buy it from them. I am a physician myself and really think what they are doing is beyond ethical practice. Also this is my first ever review on yelp after being a member for almost 15 years. If I could give Melissa (the owner) and her lying "supervisor", a vet tech named Nicole, zero stars, I would. I have been bringing my dog here for over two years now and NEVER had an issue with any of the staff, and my dog was a frequent flier. A couple of weeks ago, my dog hurt his back leg. I brought him in for an emergency visit where a vet I had never interacted with before informed me he tore his ACL and the recommended immediate course of treatment was two weeks of rest, ice, anti inflammatory, and pain medication, and he may need surgery. Ok, fine. Two weeks pass by and I call to discuss the next step. A vet tech named Nicole answers the phone. I tell her what is going on with my pet, and I also ask for more medication because my dog seems to have not gotten any better. During the course of the conversation, Nicole became upset that I interrupted her to ask a question. She then chastised me, prompting me to ask to speak to someone else in the office. Nicole basically did not have the answers to the questions I was asking and instead of putting me on hold to find out, she decided to wing it and got upset when I pressed her on it. She then immediately accused me of cursing at her(I didn't, I used a curse word during the conversation) and told me she was the supervisor and she would have the owner call me about prescribing my dog more medication. This was at 9am. At 2, the owner, Melissa, calls me. I miss the call because I was getting ready for work and I call back 20 minutes later. Nicole answers and tells me that Melissa is busy with other clients and will call me back. Now, I have wasted 5 hours waiting for a call back and I had to go to work. At 6:15, Melissa finally calls me. She first talks to me about my dog and his prognosis. I was optimistic that we would be able to come to some sort of resolution about my dog and I again requested pain medication for him. She then told me "we needed to have a talk about what had happened earlier" and proceeded to tell me she would be terminating me as a client for "cursing at her staff." She also told me she would prescribe my dog some pain medication " because she didn't want to take it out on the dog" and that I would have to pay over the phone and pick it up outside her office. So basically, Melissa made up her mind to terminate me as a client at 9 am when Nicole called her, and she waited until 6:15 at night to tell me that, before grifting a final $57 out of me for pain medication for my dog, when I could have spent the day finding him a new vet. To say I am disgusted is an understatement. Melissa let my dog sit in pain all day knowing she had no intention on even asking me, a client with no history of verbal altercations with any of the staff, what had transpired between myself and her "supervisor." The added "because I care about your dog being in pain, you can pay me on the phone and I'll leave your dogs medicine outside" commentary is what pissed me off enough to review her. Repugnant service from someone who is a veterinarian, it makes me sick someone that disgusting and spiteful has a license to practice medicine on animals. read more

We have been taking our pets here since we moved to Dutchess County over 20 years ago. They are professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The vets are great and the staff caring and wonderful! Our lab mix, Bonnie, became ill over the weekend and died suddenly at home. My husband brought her remains to Community for cremation. They all knew Bonnie and her brother Boo since they were little puppies. They treated us with such compassion, handled her remains with the utmost respect and sympathy. I had been using a different, local vet for years. Always uncertain after hearing their "diagnosis", any procedures that they said were needed, and even cutting our dogs nails.... stuck with them, clearly too long. Got to the point that I knew I had to find a new animal hospital. My plan was to go to a few, check them out, give them information regarding our 2 dogs. Well, we lucked out by picking Community Animal Hospital for our 1st possibility. What was taking over 4 hours for the previous vet to cut our Rottweilers nails (yes, he can be challenging), until C.A.H. I couldn't believe I waited as long as I did to look to change vets for as long as I did. Nail cutting now takes less than an hour (he needs to be sedated), and 100% stress free for both him and me! We just lost our English Bulldog, and are devastated. I am so thankful we had changed vets to CAH. An unexpected advantage, one of their technicians/assistant were familiar with our dogs. I could never put into words how thankful I am that we have found this animal hospital. The people who work in the front, the Dr.'s, technicians/assistants are just amazing. I HIGHLY recommend not settling with an animal hospital. Trust your gut if something doesn't seem right with a vet and the team. I regret not coming here earlier, but incredibly thankful I ended up finding this animal hospital when I did. I hope they read reviews, if so... I hope they all know how much we appreciate everything they have done for us. read more

If any of you Yelp users are like me, your pet means the world to you. I'm always nervous trying a new Vet and this time was no exception. Fortunately, all of those nerves went away the second I walked in to this lovely establishment. I could immediately tell that the charming ladies at the front desk actually enjoyed being there, that this wasn't just another job for them - which is often the case with other spots I've been to. They made me and my dog Oliver feel as comfortable as could be. After a very short wait, we were led into a very clean examination room where we met Dr. Rosie. Right off the bat I could tell she truly cared about animals and I immediately trusted her with my best friend. She was extremely helpful and answered any questions I had. The day after our visit I had a call discussing test results and she explained everything to me in an organized and coherent fashion, luckily it was all good news! I recently adopted a large mutt from the ASPCA in New Windsor (they are awesome) and had to get my new dog to a vet fast because of a bad ear infection. Community Animal hospital gave me an appointment the next day. The receptionist was helpful on the phone and answered all my questions. When I arrived, we were seen promptly. The vet tech spent 20 minutes showing me how to clean my dogs ears properly (this was a huge help). Dr. Viano explained her plan of care for the ear infection and her concerns. This is the first time a veterinarian discussed the cost of treatment with me. I appreciated it so much as she devised a plan that is affordable and helps my dog. The entire appointment was an hour and a half. Both Dr. Viano and the vet techs were caring and answered all of my questions. Because the buillding is older and is being remodeled, when you first walk in it feels dark and a little gloomy. This is quickly overcome after engaging with the staff. read more

Our two kitties were experiencing worrisome digestive issues and the staff kindly squeezed us in for an appt. with Dr. Peterson on the day we called. Dr. Peterson was kind, gentle, good-humored, and knowledgeable. He made us feel confident that problems would be resolved step by step. Test results came back the next day and Dr. Peterson provided us with a prescription that got symptoms under control within a few doses. The staff promptly returned phone calls when we had questions. Just moved to Poughkeepsie from NYC and it was time to find a new vet. Had a great first experience here. The booking process was simple. When I arrived, it was not a long wait before seeing Dr. Rosie. The doctor and her assistant were very caring for my cat and asked lots of questions to help figure out what is going on with him. Dr. Rosie carefully explained all the possibilities and what would be the next steps for each potential issue. Then, she called the following day to thoroughly review the results of his blood and urine work. She answered all of my questions fully and made me feel like she had plenty of time and patience to help me and my fluffy companion. I was sad to leave our beloved vet in NYC, but I think we've found a great new vet with Dr. Rosie! read more
