BEC and well done home fries with onions
    Mike L.

One of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had lately. The bacon was so crisp without being overdone and they nailed the well-done home fries. It was busier than I anticipated when we arrived on a Saturday morning. The counter was pretty much full and I think we snagged the last available booth. It was nice to have the privacy of a booth but I think next time I would opt for the counter because it was a very tight squeeze for someone who is larger and the seats were quite low so my legs were getting sore also. There seemed to be a lot of regulars coming in, which makes sense because the service was very friendly. It was kinda slow but I attribute that to being short staffed and the amount of people and phone orders.

I don't know how this place is getting all this great reviews, I got 2 hot dogs with the works they did not taste good at all The meat sauce was bland and looked like pet food the hot dogs themselves had hardly any flavor. I took a few bites of the first dog and couldn't do no more I threw out the second one. I also got onion rings they had no flavor and was a bit burnt. The the staff was very nice the inside was nice and historic but for the quality of food that I had I will not be coming back

I am betting that most towns in this country have a restaurant that tells a story like this one. Sons, Fathers, Grandfathers and even Great Grandfathers may have sat at the counter at Newest Lunch. They are a simple sandwich shop. They have breakfast. They are very famous for their coney style hot dog which is found in many regions i.e. Rochester, Texas, Detroit. A Coney is a hot dog with mustard, meat sauce and lots of chopped raw onions. The one at Newest Lunch is fantastic. People have been coming here for that hot dog for 98 years. There is a plaque on the wall commemorating the business. This restaurant is worth visiting just for the history! I am also a big fan of the soup. The creamy chicken rice is really good. Don't swear at me but there is a better Coney style dog in the electric city. The one here is still awesome. Yes this restaurant is a dump, dimly lit, in a run down portion of Schenectady. Inside you will find happy, welcoming servers and a simple lunch/breakfast menu that has satisfied people for generations.

Review time Kids! So here I am doing a review of a favorite haunt. I really like this place. It's old school honest lunch counter,no pretentious B.S. here. Food here is honest and priced fair. I dig on their hotdogs"all the way" (mustard, onions, and meat sauce) burgers are always fresh and tasty! The ever so lovely bride loves their Beef orzo soup too. FYI the do a stand-up breakfast too!

Yeah I totally came here for a Vegetable Omelet Okay.

I'm thinking of opening a brand new hot dog place right next to this place, to force them to change their name to "Second Newest Lunch." But my friend has the same idea so I might end up owning "Second Newest Lunch" and Newest would become Third Newest. Anyway. WHAT TO GET: Hot Dog WHY: I don't know? Because Steve Buscemi told you to? Parking is tricky. Not the best hot dog I've ever had, and not the worst. Old style, typical of NY State and indeed Schenectady. This town is probably more famous for these dogs than any other type of food, as it seems many small towns are. It's nice and greasy, pretty cheap, and the service is nice. The diner serves plenty of other stuff too, but I probably wouldn't go rushing back based on the hot dogs here. Now if it was Nudist Lunch, then that would be another story altogether.

Authentic should be measured by using Newest lunch as the yard stick. Food- 3.5 Stars Nothing is going to be gourmet, but it's all well executed. Hot dogs with Michigan sauce, mustard, and onions are just pure awesome. French Fries and Onion rings came out burning hot and were good. Service- 5 Stars Everyone is super nice. Pay up front when done. Atmosphere- 4 Stars Old school, also slightly dingy. Value- 5 Stars $1.85 hot dog with meat sauce.

It being July 4th, Independence Day, I thought it would be an appropriate day to enjoy a hot dog. Just ask Joey Chestnut! I'm not going to reduce my # of *s because we really enjoyed our food and beverages. But I do have to question what I had to drink. The board said it was an Ommegang Grande Tripel stout at 5.5 ABV ($9). That level of ABV would be reasonable for a stout, but the color of the brew was golden like a typical Tripel, and not dark like the typical Stout. The bartender gave us a sample, and it was full of flavor with my wife noticing the vanilla tones that were described by the bartender. I didn't initially identify any specific flavor other than delicious and different than I would have expected from a stout. I also would not take issue with the posted 5.5 ABV. HOWEVER, a quick reference to Ommegang online as I write this says that it is a Belgium Tripel and the ABV is 9. Yes, NINE ABV! I would definitely have noticed if I were drinking a 9 ABV on an empty stomach. I also would have noticed it driving the car after finishing a pint within one hour. For those familiar with Utah Phillips, "It was good though!" But on to the food. We ordered a shareable Tot-Chos ($12.99) consisting of tater tots, tomatoes, avocado, cheese sauce, pickled jalapeños, and chipotle aioli. These were very tasty and not too spicy, with crispy on the outside and soft on the inside tots. My wife ordered the Sooo Cali ($10.99) hot dog. The black angus beef hot dog is very tasty even before it is topped with wild arugula, tomato, avocado, crispy onion strings, and spicy basil aioli. The combined flavors work well together on the Kings Hawaiian rolls. My choice was to try the Hogfather ($10.99) - a pork bratwurst with bacon chipotle onion jam, chipotle aioli, and miso ranch. The bratwurst was delicious and again, the flavors worked well together. BTW, my wife had a Grimm Nothing But Citra ($8), an IPA that even I found acceptable. We really need to return here more frequently.

The grilled Korney and Dirty hot dogs in soft buns were good sized and filled with plenty of tasty toppings as described above. The orange mac & cheese was very soft with thick orange cheese sauce, great for dipping my lunch and those BBQ potato chips. I got a can of cold 7Up to wash down the aftertaste of the food.
