Left: Carolina Y'allstars. Right: summer camp pb&J

I would go back a million times just for the summer camp PB&J sour ale. I'm obsessed!!!! Not overwhelmingly PB. You can taste hint of PB at the front and then grape on the back end. Liquid uncrustable and it changed my life! the vibe of the place was great too. Chill, felt clean, and friendly service too. Yall check it out.

First off, 10 years in the beer biz deserves a toast--cheers, Newgrass Brewing Co.! This downtown Shelby staple has beer, bites, and bold vibes to match. My boyfriend and I stopped in for a flight (because decisions are hard), and let me just say: A+ for beer names alone. I went with the Negative Flux Given sour and Tiny Bud Home Pilsner, and I'm still giggling about it. Bonus: both were legit delicious. He dove into the IPA lineup and gave it a thumbs-up across the board. The space is deceptively big--with a chill side patio, upstairs seating, and a roomy indoor area. The only thing that felt tiny was the bar seating (aka my natural habitat), but since it wasn't too crowded, we managed to snag two seats and felt like honorary employees eavesdropping on what seemed to be a staff meeting. Honestly, we loved the inside peek at brewery life. We grabbed the app sampler for a snack attack--you get three half-orders of any apps. The pretzels with "cheese" (pimento fire magic) were the MVP. The fried pickles were solid but didn't quite steal the spotlight. And the cheese curds? Light, flaky, and fried in a batter that gave off fish fry energy--in a surprisingly good way. Add in friendly faces, laid-back vibes, and great beer, and you've got a spot I'd absolutely frequent if I lived nearby. Shelby, you're lucky to have this gem.

Don't let this place fool you. You can't see much from the outside by this is a local brewery with an entire setup inside. They offer a good variety of beers and they have live music. The good came out fast and I will say the fries were cooked very well. Crunchy and seasoned. The burger, despite that it had mayonnaise on it was very good. Cooked medium the way I indicated. The cheese curds were a great addition to the burger. The bartender was very nice. The live music was great. A cross between jewel and dido. @cailynkratzer please follow her for music.

I've been to dozens of breweries over the years, some are good, some are lame... This place is AMAZING!! The Belgian Tripple is on point, and I've been to Belgium and had those beers. They have a great ESB and Sangria. The chicken tenders (sweet chili sauce) were out of this world good!! There is ample seating, dining room, upstairs and outside. The music is good, and at the right volume so you can still have a conversation. This place is a gem!!

Free parking was available on the street behind the brewery. They opened up at 11AM Saturday with two to three people already there. The brewery was smaller than I expected it to be from the pictures. It didn't matter as the fruited sours were amazing. We got a basket of fries and waters to with the beers. Newgrass Brewing is one of my favorite breweries as the beer is accessible to many of us further south. This was definitely worth visiting.

Burnt grilled cheese. The least burned is on top, they plated the really burnt one on the bottom.

They get points for beer and trivia. Especially enjoyed trivia! Pace is good and the moderator is perfect! He really is the reason for the 3 stars! The problems: They only have one line to order anything, thus don't be in any hurry. Also, don't want another beer anytime soon. Maybe have another checkout or a beer express lane. They would make more money. Brought my 83 year old "cool mom" for her knowledge of trivia, hoping for good food and fun. Our biggest complaint is the expensive grilled cheese was burnt, inedible and made mom sad! I will also say the fries were cold! Only one poor waitress that doesn't get tips! I understand that finding help is hard. I would not mind picking up my food if I had a beeper to notify me to pick my food up.

This really is a great vibe kind of place, in great location in Shelby, NC which is up and coming. The location is right down the street from the Earl Scruggs Center (For you Youngsters Google it, well worth it lol), there are a lot of little shops like you would find in these up and coming small towns that are being revitalized, along with Farmers Markets, Bridges BBQ etc. In the opinion of my family (As I am not a Beer Drinker) this place has some very good beers to come and try out after you have visited some of the great things around the area and you just want to kick back and relax. They also have drinks for us non-beer drinkers. So come to Shelby and slow down and enjoy the day, weekend or vacation.

Have a day, Aku Aku tiki

The Aku Aku tiki beer was absolutely delicious! We also tried the have a day blueberry sour, which I wished was sweeter but if you like really sour sours you would probably like it. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the drink selection and made recommendations/gave samples to taste. They have a lot of great lunch options including salads, sandwiches, wraps, soup, etc. I had the Turkey wrap which was tasty, although I wish there had been more cream cheese spread in it! Also on the menu it said it had carrots in it, but I didn't see any in mine. The house chips were delicious, served with ranch, and on the softer side. The outdoor seating was perfect for the Spring weather!

Newgrass is my favorite brewery and any time I can swing by for a beer fresh on tap I'm going to take that opportunity! Tried a few new sours (those are my fave!) and grabbed lunch after a hike at Crowders. The fried cheese curds with taziki are my go to. They're lightly breaded and the taziki is so different with them but adds a lot of flavor. I got the PLT this time and it was messy but delicious. My husband got the fried California chicken sandwich and really enjoyed it. The fries were well seasoned and everything was so hot.

Crazy good food for a brewery. They make some crazy beers. Wish they were doing flights right now but besides that Newgrass is a hidden gem.

This place isn't just a bar; it's where good vibes go to level up, grab a drink, and dance like no one's watching (even though everyone is). The service? Top-tier. The atmosphere? Equal parts cozy, classy, and "uh-oh I might stay longer than planned." But let's talk about Thursday Karaoke Night, because WOW. If you think you've heard angels sing, try listening to a brave soul at Fly Girls passionately belt out 90s hits with the confidence of someone who clearly pre-gamed in the parking lot. Whether you're a vocal legend in the making or you only sing in the shower when no one's home, the crowd here will cheer you on like you're headlining your world tour. The DJ (Morgan Bass) keeps the music flowing. The staff keeps the drinks flowing, the laughs rolling, and the mic sanitized--because professionalism matters, even when you're butchering "Sweet Caroline." The energy on Thursday nights is pure gold: supportive, hilarious, and just the right amount of chaotic. Don't sleep on the pizza from Fly Boys it's the best in town. Fly Girls is the perfect spot to unwind, let loose, and maybe discover that your true calling was karaoke all along. Thursdays here aren't just a night out--they're an event. A weekly tradition. A borderline spiritual experience. If you want great service, great entertainment, and a guaranteed good time, Fly Girls delivers every single time. And trust me, you haven't lived until you've spent a Thursday night here.

First, the beers - have yet to have a "meh" beer, much less a bad beer, in the 26 different beers (I counted on Untappd!) I've had here. Always love to get the limited release ones, but staples like Dragonbane Stout and Foggy Mountain Cave-In are like a comfortable hug when I'm just in the mood for something familiar. Next, the food - my daughter straight up LOVES The 'Dish Nachos and so do I, but I'll admit they lost a little something switching from Fritos to regular tortilla rounds. That said, the pulled pork and queso makes up for that in spades. The pizzas are also fantastic. Don't sleep on the Cheeseburger Pizza, it's one of my faves. Finally, the atmosphere and staff - comfy confines with more than enough seating, couches, etc. and whoever picks the music each time we're in is somehow spot-on. Charlotte behind the bar is always the best, the gold standard. Tip her well. Also, don't sleep on the events hosted here. At the time we didn't realize that Roberta Flack was born in Black Mountain and the mural on the side of the historic building was in fact Roberta! We wandered to the outdoor space which is two levels, we explored the upstairs area first since there was a thunderstorm we thought it would be cool to watch the rain and lightning while sipping on a cold beer. We also learned there was a food trailer at the back of the property, which looks to be a permanent resident. They offer items such as pulled pork, poutine, brisket, and more.
