Sadly, I'm taking this place out of my lunchtime rotation, despite working very close to it. Last week they forgot to add the chicken to the takeout order I placed online for a Greek chicken salad. Yesterday, the Cobb salad and black-eyed pea soup were just BAD, especially the soup. The black-eyed peas didn't even taste cooked. I don't expect much from chain deli lunches but next time, I'll hit up Jason's or Modern Market. Sad face. read more

I've been to Newk's 4 times in the past two weeks. I've been on a salad kick and this is one of the few places that offers a variety of salads beyond the traditional green/side/house salads at many places. I had the Black and Blu, the Newks Favorite, the Southern, and the Greek. The Black and Blu had some nicely cooked beef on it (a shade past medium rare). The serving size was good; more than enough for lunch. The blue cheese dressing was on the bland side, but on par with generic dressings. Not a lot going on in the salad. It was a nice change of pace to have beef on a salad, but overall not terribly impressive or memorable. The Southern is a serving of chicken salad (shredded, not cubed like most) on a bed of lettuce with a few cherry tomatoes and a few grapes. The chicken salad itself is not bad, but a bit dry and uninspired. Overall, very very meh. I have hard time imagining which of their dressings really goes with this salad. Somehow, nothing quite works. The Greek was terrible. I can sum it up in one word: SALTY. Salty to the point of caustic burns. They're also using vinegar peppers (the yellow-ish, vinegary, sliced yellow peppers you often see in pizza places) but they're strangely dry. Distractingly so; tough, chewy, a bit like accidentally biting into a pepper stem. If you've gone to greek places and gotten a little greek salad, those tend towards the creamy greek or very slightly sweet, tart dressing. Bottled greek is more like the sweet, tart style. This was just vinegar and salt. Not pleasant. The Newks favorite, in contrast, has a LOT going on. Lots of bits of various goodies, several different types of greens, nuts, gorgonzola, cranberries. Very tasty. This is what I was looking for when my salad cravings began. Best of the ones I tried. Very yummy. I'll go back for that salad alone. Prices are a bit high for what you're getting, but that shouldn't be surprising for the Arboretum. The atmosphere is nice and airy, sunny (lots of windows). It's pretty busy at lunch time, so consider looking for a seat first before deciding on whether to get your food to go. It's also got a lot of families (well-heeled shopping moms with kids), so the noise level is pretty high. Expect some crying and whining. Last, they've got a little condiments bar with various pickles and peppers. The pickles are great! I get a little cup each time I go to nosh while I wait. Not a bad place at all, but nothing truly great. If they had more great salads rather than meh ones, I'd bump this to 3 stars. read more

I love Newk's Eatery. Today my grandson and I ordered and then I discovered my billfold was missing. People were lined up behind us and I was embarrassed. The cashier said, "Let me go talk to my manager." She came back and said, "It's OK, don't worry about it." I promised I would return with money, but she waved me off. We ate our delicious food and I got to talk with my 6 year old grandson about seeing the goodness in people. We had delicious food and a good lesson about trust and people. When we thanked the manager, she was gracious and wouldn't let me go home to get money to come back and pay. Thank you, Ivey Robinson. Great PR! Hurray for decent values and good people. The sum of the parts equals an extraordinary dining value! 1st the staff - Jennifer one of the mangers know's her products and provides excellent service. The soups, salad, pizza and sandwichs use fresh high quality products and the combinations of product make for very flavorful meals. I just tried this place for the first time and the food was soooo good! I had the pesto chicken sandwhich with a cup (more of a bowl!) of the crab/lobster bisque! It was great! Along with great customer service, this place seems to have thought of everything I love in a hearty nutritional salad! I was so surprised to see the kinds of toppings at their bar. Like the things I include in my meals at home when I cook - Like Fresh garlic, Capers, and pickles. They catered at one of my jobs last year and that's when I actually found out about Newk's! We tried Newk's on a recent trip to Austin, and this place is awesome! Tons of food options. We both had a half Club sandwich with mac and cheese. Very good and hit the spot after a long day of shopping. Their "roundtable" filled with free extras was amazing. Roasted garlic, capers, breadsticks, jalapenos, etc. all ready to be added to your food. Wish they had one in DFW closer to us. read more

I used to work in this shopping center and it's a great lunch spot. I like the Club sandwich, or the turkey, and the zesty black beans soup is a go to during the summer. Their salads are really big, and don't be fooled by the size of the to go salads-they pack a lot of salad in there. Best thing about this place? The sweet tea. My Newk's Favorite salad was terrible. There was so much salad dressing that is was saturated and limp. After I found the turkey buried at the bottom of the bowl, it was cheap lunch meat that was rubbery. I am unsure if all of the components were even in the salad. After enjoying food here on several occasions I thought it was time to review. The quality of the food is great. I really like their club sandwich. Service is good. Make sure you try the free bread and butter pickles and bread stick (crackers). Lunch is busy, but they seem to move people through relatively quick. Ordered catering for a work lunch and we really enjoyed it. Loved the pimiento cheese and veggie sandwich option. I think it was some kind of marinated mushroom combo. We became familiar with Newk's in Houston while visiting family. We really liked it and were glad to find one here as well. Went today and it was great. Wife had the chicken salad sandwich and I had the Southern salad. Their chicken salad is grrrrreat! We went at the height of lunch rush but got our order in and delivered much quicker than expected. In Leviticus certain things are referred to as abominations unto the lord. Surely, in the Texas bible, Newk's food would be considered grounds for stoning the chefs and consumers. I ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich this week and it came with white bq sauce on it. What is white bbq sauce you might ask, well take toxic waste, mix it with medical waste, fry it up with discarded fracking chemicals and you get the idea. There was nothing remotely BBQ about it. In Texas it is a capital crime to serve poor BBQ. Newk's has committed said crime and needs to be immediately shut down by the Church of Texas BBQ in order to maintain our quality and purity standards. Long and short of it. The food beyond sucks there. I mean, really, really bad. Nickelback is better than Newk's. OU sucks less than Newk's. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

I found this place by zooming around on Google Maps and decided to try it. I ordered online and my order was ready at the exact time I specified. Great food, and very reasonably priced. I had the Newk's Q paired with some Mac n Cheese it's worth every penny. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who hasn't been. read more

Went in tonight for a to-go chicken Cesar salad. When I walked in, no one was at the counter and a young man yelled from across the room to ask if I was ready to order. I ordered my salad and was told to wait near the tables for it. The young man who took my order then yelled to who looked to be the manager in the back that he needed a salad to go. She yelled back at him that she wasn't going to make it. She was too busy. So I'm standing there watching as the manager and the rest of the staff are laughing. She looks up over the partition and sees me watching and still didn't do anything. The young man then walked back to start making my salad and then she yanks the container away from him and started throwing in the salad and croutons. I didn't say anything but knew it wasn't going to be right. So when the kid comes over and gives me my salad I told him it was supposed to be a Chicken Cesar salad. He takes it back and the manager looks at me and rolls her eyes and throws a bag of chicken on the salad. The kid without gloves then gets my salad and tucks everything back in the container, again without gloves and shoves it back at me. I was so upset at the lack of customer service and the lack of respect that I just took it and left. I won't be back. That is just plain ridiculous. read more

Had a great experience today at Newks. I come here regularly due to the fact that it's close to my home. I love their food and love their Splenda tea. Today I joined seven friends who were celebrating my birthday with me. Unfortunately, my order was wrong so I took it back and received the correct sandwich, after a short delay. The manager, Dee, came over to check on my order. One of my friends suggested they give me a free slice of cake to make up for the botched order and also since it was my birthday. Dee delivered four pieces of cake for me to share with my friends at our table. Truly, that was above and beyond what I would expect. My wife and I went to Newk's today for lunch as it is one of our favorite places for a healthy and delicious lunch. We've been coming here off and on since it opened. I normally get the Veggie Pizza and my wife gets the Cobb Salad. Today I switched it up and got the Grilled Steak & Butternut Squash Salad, which is a new menu item. The food came out promptly, which is appreciated. Overall both salads and ingredients looked fresh and good. Our only complaint was we like our chicken and beef warm and prefer that the bowl and salad don't feel like they came out of a cold fridge. When my wife had her salad in the past the Chicken was warm and the bowl was room temperature. Just a reminder, pay attention to the details. We still love this place and will be back. read more

I spent $20 on a Groupon for Newk's thinking it expired in Jan/2011. When I looked again at it, I saw that it expired in December/2010. I called Newk's to see if they'd still accept it, since I did pay $20 for it. However, after hearing my story, Newk's still refused to honor it. This place gets four stars as I'm yelping places I've tried in the area and Newks stuck out as being better than the restaurants across the street (see my other reviews.) I have been here twice, you order then sit down to wait for your food, service was just ok, the guy at the register seemed annoyed with my questions. I got the Debra pizza the first time which was awesome! Thin, crispy, and loaded with warm pesto, no complaints. The 2nd time I got the sand which soup combo with the shrimp po'boy and crawfish soup they had that day. Both were great as well! The po'boy was loaded with shrimp and the soup was loaded with crawfish, no skimping here. The drink you get is always in a gigantic plastic take home cup. So for the same price as I paid across the street I got way more food as the portions are larger here, a huge take hone cup, and better tasting food as well.
