My younger sibling brought me here for a quick bite to eat on our way out of town. I had seen the massive takehome cups blazoned with the Newk's logo at my parents house many times before... And now I finally have a takehome cup of my very own. My Newk's experience was quite pleasant. The overall theme for this place is "suburban mom paradise". Think mid-40's moms wearing bedazzled black shirts with a purse made of fake alligator and dangling silver hearts. Oh, and don't forget the moms that the moms bring... The grand moms. Haha. The food was above average, but you certainly pay above average prices for it. I had a super tasty chicken salad sandwich with a side salad and drink. Modest meal. $12 price tag. For a strip center deli, that's a bit steep. BUT. There are redeeming qualities that will keep me coming back: the ohmygosh warm, toasted bread on the sandwiches and the extra large take home cups. I love a good sippy cup. Bit of advice: if you do not want copious amounts of salad dressing on your salad, be sure to let them know you would like it on the side... Newk's was the sort of place that came around and was flying under the radar for the longest time for me. When I finally tried it out, I was not disappointed in the least. This place blows chain "healthy eating" establishments like Panera out of the water. To be frank, I avoid everything but the salad menu. However, the salads you get are by no means disappointing--they are large and the quality of the greens certainly feel fresh. I've had the Shrimp Remoulade more times than I can count--it's my go-to dish there. You get actual shrimp (not the tiny salad shrimp) that are nice and firm (but cold; I'd prefer them warm, but that's being picky), a decent amount of egg and plenty of crisp greens and tomatoes. I haven't had a Shrimp Remoulade salad yet that has just absolutely disappointed me. My husband typically orders the half-and-half options; you can get a half sandwich, soup or salad, or even a side of mac & cheese. The sandwiches are nicely presented, and the salads are a nice portion size. The mac & cheese dish was not too bad, either. They also provide an "under 600 calorie" half-and-half menu that you can select from if you're watching your weight. However, don't be fooled by the idea that this place is a "healthy" alternative or establishment that some people comment about--there are a TON of diet bombs on the menu, so if you are looking to actually watch what you put in your mouth Newk's website has a nutritional breakdown of all its meals. Also, if you do a salad, get the dressing separately, because the size of the containers they give you with the dressing in it are massive. I don't even use half of it and there's plenty for the salad. Warning: this place gets stupidly packed on Sundays with tons of church people and general patrons. Packed means it gets noisy too, so do not expect an intimate dining experience ever. I'd give this place 4 stars for that, but honestly that's out of their control. The staff handle the counter lines well enough that they don't (always) go out the door. Overall, crowds aside, Newk's is my go-to for a hearty salad for lunch and the quality for all the times I have been has never once disappointed. This particular location (the one of few in Houston) is well-executed in their service and food preparation. Highly recommend them over Panera, Subway or any other major chain for this type of food any day. read more

Absolutely love the food here. Great salad selection, and the chicken that they use tastes great: Thin-sliced, marinated (similar to La Madeleine's rotisserie chicken) perfect in the Newk's Favorite Salad. I also sprung for their margherita pizza, which was a thin-crust, ample cheese, pepper, fresh tomatoes, and basil. This small pizza was really affordable as an appetizer to share between 2 people. Think Café Express (sorta) but here in Cypress. It's big sell are the salads, but they have pizza's and sandwiches too. Thumbs up on salad in the area. That is my one biggest complaint about almost ALL restaurants. The choice of anything green is pitiful. So, if you want "the big salad", go here. the also have a complimentary condiment bar with roasted garlic, peppers, pickles, shredded parmesan, etc, as well as packets of thin "breadsticks" (aka long cracker things). Omg. I want to start by saying I'm here for lunch and already want to come back for dinner. There are so many incredible looking choices. After I couldn't stand it anymore I ended up ordering half a sandwich and soup. Turkey avocado on 11 grain bread and spinach soup. So far I'm lovin it. How have I never been here or heard of this place til the other day? I'm really having to fight myself not to order something else to go for later. The menu is beyond a mere "nice selection of choices between soups salads and sandwiches" it's far and above that. So far my only complaint is I did not get a receipt and there was no avocado on my Turkey sandwich so I can't check my receipt to verify that's what I ordered. I am more than half done so I'm not going to make a deal of it but a receipt would have been helpful. This is not a full service restaurant and nobody stopped by to ask how I was doing so I'm sure I could have got some avocado if I bothered to ask. My bad, too tired to get up and do it myself. Its a busy little place and I would bet they are super busy at peak times as I'm here at 3pm and they're busy. I could see my husband and son eating here in the future. I think we haven't been here because we thought it was a different kind of eatery. As my husband would put it... "California cuisine" which if you are of my generation just means healthy foo foo type stuff. Not that there aren't plenty of healthy options, most are. But I think I could convince the guys to try at least a pizza or sandwich. Definitely bringing menu home and dropping a HUGE hint. I will be back. I really WANT to rate Newk's higher. My better half loves this place, primarily for their Greek salads, and based on the crowds, many agree with her. I LIKE it -- nice mix on the menu, friendly staff, etc. -- but in general, I find the food just a little...meh. Never bad, always serviceable, but never outstanding in my book (well, except for a piece of apple spice cake I had there once -- wow). I guess my bottom line is that I'd recommend it as a reliable, consistent place to eat, with a wide enough selection that everyone will find something. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE! So, we usually get their pizzas. Ample size to fill us up and so, so good!! Hubby usually gets the spicy chicken pizza and I get the pepperoni. I have recently tried their chicken salad sandwich and I have to say it's probably the best I have ever had. I do wish they had more bread options because it's a little thick for me, but it's just so good. I have even gotten a child's size pizza and added a side salad (it's really big for a side salad) and was completely full without even finishing it all. If you download their app you get a free slice of their 9 layer cake on your next visit. The girls at the register are so nice and helpful. Once I forgot to say no mustard on my sandwich and when I asked to get another and she didn't make me feel bad even though it was my fault and she replaced it. Not much has changed. Food is still good, if they get it right. I have a new job where we occasionally order from Newks for 5-7 people and pick it up. I think there has been something wrong every time. Once time we had to go back and get an order they left out. They gave us rice krispie treats for the trouble but 1 less than the number of people we had. Like I said, the food is good enough that I am willing to put up with their service issues but really, not sure why they can't fix this. read more

I was very happy with my experience at newks The prices were just decent, but the portions were big. They were very generous with the amount of meat and toppings that they put in the salad I ordered. Our group just beat the lunch rush, which starts at about 11:30, so I would recommend coming just a tad bit before that, otherwise you can expect to have a bit of a wait. This is an express cafe as they suggest...sometimes not so express but I when I've eaten there I would say on average it typically takes 15 minutes to get my food. I'm typically call in my order & go pick it up. I wish they had to-go parking because sometimes the parking lot is really full. I don't mind walking, but the situation isn't ideal if you are in a hurry. The menu isn't fancy but it's perfect for lunch. The selection consists of soups, salads, sandwiches & pizzas. Everything I've had hasn't disappointed. My typical go to is a Newks Q. It's a sandwich with chicken, cheese, bacon & amazing white BBQ sauce. I love this place, omg the shrimp salads are the best I have ever had, mostly everything is made to order and as fresh as fresh gets!! I love all the new creations they come up with, panera has NOTHING on this place I come her 1-3x a week, it it's a little pricey but it's worth every penny!! This is great find they have great salads they are so plentiful in serving size's. Customer service is great the manager showed us all the diffrent items that they have that are complimentary. The prices are in the on the high end but worth it, If they can keep the consistency up of serving served in a bowl. Darn I wanted to love this place. I've had it bookmarked for so long. Oh well. So excited to have a Cobb salad, but I guess I'll have to go elsewhere for a "real" Cobb salad. Large-ish pieces of chicken throughout the salad that were dry and bland and required so much cutting, I finally decided it wasn't worth it. Honey mustard dressing had a weird spicy thing going on that ruined the taste of the whole salad. My bad, should have tasted it before dumping all over my salad. I thought a Cobb salad had eggs and avocados? Teensy pieces of eggs, no avocados, and one or two crumbles of Gorgonzola amid a ton of greens. I just got tired of eating it. Plus: Splenda tea. No standing there ripping open little packets. Nice. All in all, just another overpriced place where you order your own food at the counter, get your own drink, put your own stuff on your salad at the little table, and pay as much as you would if you were being fully served. Went there today...sandwiches always disappoint. I get the Newks Favorite salad and I really like it. But had a major issue with one of the food handlers. What's the point in wearing one glove amd not one on the other hand? Never changed glove but would use cash register with the glove running his hand all over counter and sit down at a table wiping his hand all over chairs, his hair, face then get back up and handle food.. Newk's is a great sandwich and salad place. We've been eating there for 5 or 6 years. Tonight I tried their shrimp Po Boy sandwich. This is the only bad item I've ever had from them. The shrimp were either frozen and simply thawed or boiled with no spice at all. They were literally tasteless. The sandwich had way too many pickles on it and lots of slices onion. I've had Po Boy sandwiches all over Texas and Louisiana and don't recall ever getting raw onions. Enough said about this nasty sandwich. Their chicken salad sandwich is first class! read more

I was in Newks today with a friend. I ordered the farmers market sandwich and she ordered the margarita pizza. We are both now sick. The sandwich was supposed to come with Gorgonzola cheese but another type of cheese was on my sandwich. The cheese was hard and looked very old and like plastic. She had the same cheese in her pizza. We didn't finish either of our meals and we started having stomach issues before we even got home. If you are going to eat here stay away from any of the cheese dishes unless you want diarrhea! read more

We really like Newk's for takeout but had a couple of issues with our web order tonight. Email receipt said to go to "Grab N Go pickup area" and when I arrived there was no such area. So I had to wait in line for a few minutes. Then when we got home my wife discovered her half sandwich for a combo was missing. We didn't want to drive back so my wife called for a refund. The clerk wasn't very apologetic but said they would take care of it. I was about to write a scathing review at this point when I got a call back from the manager who apologized sincerely and offered to send us certificates for free food. I was impressed. I have eaten at several Newk's now. Very consistent in the quality of food. Fresh and delicious. Not once has my order been messed up when I had a special order. Always clean, love the Ice Tea. Easy to navigate in there when crowded, being disabled that is important to me. Only thing I wish is that a bit more ingredients in the salads; don't feel it's a good balance of ingredients vs lettuce. But they are very tasty. read more

Talk about a let down. I used to eat at the Newks in Waco every day for lunch and it was consistently fresh and perfect! Today was my first visit to this Newks since I moved to the area and I was rather disappointed. I ordered food for my co workers and I and all the sandwiches were all bread, which was like biting into a brick, with hardly any meat/cheese. The potato soup was so salty I could hardly eat it. My chicken salad sandwich was descent, but they would not make me a fresh one on a croissant, rather I had to get one off the grab and go, which was a bit soggy. I'm so bummed to have finally talked my co workers into trying something new and it was no good. The soup was great like always, but the sandwiches were a joke. It looked like my 2 year old made them. There was practically no meat on them, a tiny sliver of lettuce, dry bread and nothing else. Everything tasted old and was dried out. I couldn't even finish the sandwich. I'm not sure if they were scraping the bottom of their ingredients or what, but it was horrible. What to say other than grandmas got some competition! Got the Italian sandwich, just a beautiful thing. I am a sandwich connoisseur and this just had that homemade flavor that every sandwich shop aims for- spot on. They have a bar with some goodies... jalapeños, banana peppers, croutons which tasted home baked- amazing, pickles, ROASTED GAHHHLIC, and shredded Parmesan cheese..which I did shots of and am proud for it. I ordered my food and got a 13 min estimate on when it would be ready. After 15 minutes, i go to pick up my food and tell them who i am. They said that it's ready just one thing needs to finish and it's about to. Then i waited and waited for about 30 mins while other costumers came in and out in 30 seconds, their food was already prepared and ready to go. I heard a worker look at us rudely, we were the only ones in there, and she said to her friend "what are they waiting on" in a really rude tone and everyone gave us judgy looks. I finally said something to them and they checked on our food and said they JUST NOW needed to put it on the grill. I had to wait even longer while other people got their food right away. The workers were rude about it, and my food wasn't even the best for the amount of time i waited. I have been going here forever, I expected more. read more
