Yowza, it seems like a lot of folks have had bad experiences at this Newk's. We ordered delivery because it had been a DAY, and it was promptly prepared and delivered to our door. Turkey and swiss - above average, and the pasta salad wasn't bad. Shrimp po'boy - not in the least bit authentic, but it was a tasty sandwich and the fruit seemed fresh. I love love loved this newks so much! I had sat there for 2 minutes waiting on my Caesar and tomato basil. they had the food out to me quicker then i could sit down. The employee went above and beyond asking for anything else i needed and wished me a very blessed day. He had a buzzcut and looked very proffesional and as i were people watching the employees i noticed all of them seemed in high morale and often laughing and joking together. i was very pleased and happy with how everything came out. read more

I stopped by Newk's to pick up lunch to go after a visit to Redstone Village. The restaurant wasn't busy this Saturday. First impressions were if I were the manager, all employees would not have their cell phones in the food prep area. Constantly looking at cell phones and then touching food is unsanitary. Looking at the menu I selected Greek salad with add on chicken. My order was prepared and I came home to watch football and eat my Greek salad. I noticed after I opened the lid slimy off color cucumbers. Picking them out of the salad turned my stomach. The more I investigated the more slimy cucumber slices I found. I stopped when the slimy black piece of lettuce came to view. I was through. This visit was a total fail. If I could give zero stars, I would!!! read more

I walked in to look at the menu checking to see if they still offered the Salon Caesar Salad. I realized upon scanning the entire menu, no one out of the 7-10 emplayers I counted, no one still to this point had greeted me or anything. Below average food for a Newk's. They don't have the real silverware a lot of Newk's have. They gave me the tiniest spoon to eat my sooo and don't have any larger spoons. Newk's used to have big nice metal soup spoons that had better soup capacity! read more

Poor management - Dirty Tables & Nasty Floors We arrived Saturday at 3PM therefore very slow time period. We were in the restaurant for 45 minutes and not one table was cleaned or trash and food on floors removed. There were more dirty tables than clean to select from. I watched employees in the prep area laughing and chatting and couldn't determine who was the manager to complain to as they were more at fault than the staff - manager should be ashamed of their lack of directions to the staff. As a diner I shouldn't be expected to call this to their attention. I have been a frequent diner for 10 years but after moving to Huntsville the last 7 years the two locations in Huntsville should be ashamed of how they present their company. read more

The salads have gone downhill for years, now they Holly get have the steak and blue cheese salad and don't offer blue cheese dressing which is a bummer. Not worth coming to anymore. read more

Great option for soups, salads and sandwiches. The best feature about newks is consistency. All of the locations I have been to have been consistently great, clean, and fresh. The salads are huge and never ending. They always use fresh ingredients and the pickle bar is fantastic. One favorite is the ultimate salad. Order with out croutons and with blue cheese for a low carb option. The Italian is my favorite sandwich. The meats are great with the peppers and mustard. read more

Never again will Newks steal my money. I ordered the Turkey pesto sandwich in which they forgot the pesto, gave me a smear of goat cheese, the Turkey was old, the bread was thick and hard-drink plenty of Gatorade dude or you'll choke! and the sandwich was NOT made to order, they simply heated it up (the Turkey grew crispy on the outside-that's called OLD). It was very empty which isn't a good indication. My crawfish and crab soup was ok, but where was the crawfish??? I ordered a cup which cost 8! What?!!! That's expensive & it wasn't even filled up. The best thing I had was my Greek side salad because they weren't stingy with the ingredients-well, uh no, I asked for extra feta & olives. Overall, I had high hopes & though I'd go back and try a pizza, but nah. Get it right newks please. Pre-making sandwiches is the practice of lazy fast food chains. This is not a bad place and food is consistent. It was convenient for my wife and I to take our daughter to lunch. We each had a different soup, broccoli cheese, corn and crab chowder, and Thai chicken along with sandwiches. All in all the meal was good for the money. I had the Royal sandwich and it was tasty. This is a great go to place for lunch or a quick meal at a good price. I also like being able to get croutons when I want them as well as peppers and such. Great option. read more

Been here twice while in town on business. Newk's is a great place for sensible and healthy lunches. They also have "comfort food". First time in I had the shrimp and avocado salad. The portion was huge, and had about a dozen perfectly cooked shrimp and a generous amount of diced avocado. The lemon basil vinaigrette was fresh and delicious. Second time I went in i had a half simply salad with the sherry vinaigrette and a side of the bacon and pimiento cheese mac and cheese. Again, freshly made and delicious. The side of the mac and cheese was a bit of a skimpy portion, but it was very tasty. Also love that they have a bar with free bread sticks, various peppers, croutons, and the bread and butter pickles are the best. Finally, they have reusable cups for beverages for the environmentally friendly folks. This is becoming the go-to spot for a quick healthy lunch when in HSV. read more

If I've been to newks before I've forgotten but then I've slept since then. This is a nice place. To go items by an exit and friendly staff. Counter service. Had a grilled pimento cheese Sammy Wish it were More panini ish but it did the trick. Got the (my words) redneck caviar (their term is black bean salad or salsa) for a side. Nice alternative to fries or other items you normally see. Service was quick and an area is dedicated to the shrine of condiments. Saw wine on display but didn't catch that till I'd ordered h2o. I paid $33 for two sandwiches and two bowls of bisque and two teas. Bisque was cold. Steak sandwich had very little meat and practically no caramelized onions. Turkey sandwich was good though. I sat out drinks down with the numbered placard for our order and when I can back, the bus boy had dumped them. I pointed out the placard and he said he'd get me two new cups which he did. But no apology. Look, I know I came in at 8pm, but it was one hour till closing. For this price the service and the quality of the food should be much better. I hardly ever write reviews of places but this newks was actually horrendous. First, I ordered a salad with an alternate dressing which they didn't give. Instead I received a salad that no joke tasted like if had been in the refrigerator for the two nights previous. The lettuce was wilted and chewy. I 100% believe that the just disregarded my order of an alternate dressing and just gave me a salad they had made earlier. On top of that i went to get croutons from their little topping bar and the croutons were not only chewy, but, I'm no dentist, but if i had George Washington's teeth, i would have just lost them. About the only good thing were the tomatoes, they were good! I've been to a lot of Newk's and this one does not live up to their standard. I enjoy eating at Newk's. I like the relaxed atmosphere, and have enjoyed their pizzas. However, I decided to try one of their salads for a change. I ordered the Red White and Blue Salad, and was extremely disappointed with it. I felt that the salad had very little flavor, and I ate the cheese and fruit, but much of the salad was based upon Spinach leaves, which I didn't eat, and the chicken was cut in thin wide slices of chicken that I found a little scary, not looking much like chicken, and just couldn't bring myself to eat it. Newk's is one of my favorite deli/sandwich places. I like this location better for lunch, because it seems less crowded, but either Huntsville location is good at dinner time. Their options are a little more hearty than some of the other delis, but the prices are a little more expensive too. The salads are all really good, and big too! I love places with half and half options (mostly so I don't have to choose if I can't make up my mind!) so this place is really great whether I want soup and salad, or a half of a sandwich...I can get whatever I want. I recommend the grilled chicken sandwich, pesto chicken sandwich, and caesar salad. I also love their tortilla soup and lobster crab bisque, especially when it's cold outside! read more

I'm a fan of the half soup half salad or half sandwich option. I'm a vegetarian so it's sort of annoying that they don't have a vegetarian option for a soup everyday. I have to check ahead of time to see if they have one that day. With that being said, the garden vegetable soup is amazing! Also the veggie sandwich is great. The size of the drinks is awesome, sometimes I go there just for a soda or iced tea! Newk's is a place to go when you really can't decide what to eat. There's always something you can go for, but it doesn't seem as filling as other options.. I've never been disappointed. Unfortunately the "homemade cakes" look really unappetizing so I've never tried any desserts there. Also the atmosphere in there is a bit drab... Could use some better lighting! read more

Crispy thin-crust personal pizzas! If only they made larger sizes. My steak sandwich was great, but next time I'll have to ask for extra horseradish to give it a bit more authority. I chose to upgrade my side to a bowl of chili (served on Saturdays), and it was delish. It wasn't spicy, just thick and flavorful. Sadly they make their salads with romaine lettuce, and you have to spend 20 minutes cutting out the stems. Great dressings though, and lots of add-ons at the condiment bar. read more

I did not check out the restrooms (which I normally do), but still seemed to be a clean place. Beer: n/a I did not pay any attention to their beer selection -- if they even have one. Just wasn't in the mood for one and did not really look it over. Food: 3.0 Food was good, not great. I had a chicken panini. It had good flavor and I liked the southern caviar as they call it. And again, really enjoyed the rotating pepper stand. Had a few of them with my sandwich. Service: 2.8 Service was ok. They take your order at the counter then bring your food. But that is about it. They seemed confused when I asked what the down south caviar was. Three to four of them consulted before they gave me an answer. This was kind of odd, IMO. It is simply a mixture of black eyed peas and some other things. Overall: Not bad. Just nothing special. I would not go out of my way to recommend it, but I wouldn't say don't eat their either. read more

Me and my wife had the Italians sandwich to go. It tasted great but my wife has a dairy allergy. We told the person to make sure there was no cheese and no dairy. They even wrote it on the ticket *dairy allergy* we get home and start eating. 2 bites into it my wife had to take some Benadryl in order to stop her throat from swelling. Needless to say not very happy about the whole thing. I own a Restaurant myself and take allergies very seriously. Shortly after pulling out phone to text, he put it in his pocket and proceeded to make someone's salad without changing gloves. Hope those folks don't get sick. We stopped at the Newk's on University Drive a few months ago because our "regular" deli was jam packed. Loved it. Soup, sandwiches, salads and pizza. That about covers their menu. We tried the Whitesburg Drive location last weekend and it didn't disappoint either. The place was packed but you'd never tell from the excellent, fast service and great food. Newks is ok and has decent food. But for the money, you get THREE times the meat on a Jason's Deli sandwich (which is across the street). Meat portions are less than subway. A club sandwich and a kids pizza cost $14! I'll stick with Jason's Deli. read more

Service and did was excellent on my first trip to the Huntsville Newts. I had the pepperoni sausage pizza and it was served within a few minutes hot and tasty. All the meals brought to the table looked good and nobody went home hungry. One person had the Cobb Salad and I was suprised at the size.
