Update ... less than 4 years later unfortunately our mattress has turned out to be somewhat of a lemon. The thing is just WAY too heavy, and we suspect that the springs inside have somehow malfunctioned. We notice a slump in the bed now toward one side and I wake up with intense hip pain on a daily basis. For spending more than 3k on a bed we really thought we were investing in a bed that would last us a long time. It is really unfortunate we were so thrilled at first and really did like the experience we had with the locally owned company. read more

Beware of Newport Bedding's "warranty"--if your mattress has an issue, which ours did, you have to pay for shipping to and from their factory for them to fix it under warranty, which costs about $250 each way. Almost a year ago, I purchased a $2,000 queen mattress. It started to sag in the middle only a few months after purchasing. When I contacted the store, they never got back with me because I was too far away for them--I was no longer in Orange County and had moved to a nearby county. After 6 months the mattress was sagging so much that my husband and I fell into the middle of the mattress every night. It was impossible for two people to sleep in it. My husband developed serious back and neck pain from the sag and started sleeping on the couch. Mind you, we are both athletic and fit people. I put a stop on my credit card because I was getting no where with the store. After that, I got a call from Tom, the store owner, who proceeded to ask discriminatory questions like "How much does your husband weigh? Is he a big guy?" and "Didn't you purchase this mattress just for one person to sleep on?" These questions made no sense because a queen mattress is by design made for two people, and my husband weighs as much as the average man does. The store finally sent an inspector out (they originally were going to charge me $75 for an inspection, but ended up waiving it), who confirmed that the mattress had a defect--the inspector could see the huge sag in the middle just by looking at it. I was then given my two "warranty" options: pay more to upgrade to a nicer mattress, or pay to ship my defective mattress to and from their factory--which would cost me $250 each way. Newport Bedding refused to let me simply exchange my mattress for a new one, continually referencing their warranty, (and obviously no regard for customer service) but did let us upgrade to a nicer mattress for less than it would normally cost. At this point, our mattress cost $3,000, not including shipping. Newport Bedding offered to ship it to our new apartment for $200, or ship it for free to a closer location. We had Newport Bedding ship the mattress to the closer location for free and then we had to pay $200 to ship it to our new apartment. After a few weeks of owning the $3,000 upgraded mattress, the support in the middle again began to give and we started to fall into the middle of the mattress. Our new mattress was developing a sag just after a few weeks. I only weigh 130 pounds, and the only way I could keep myself from falling into the middle was to sleep facing the edge of the bed and never turn in my sleep. I started to develop neck and back pain from having to sleep in one position all night, and my husband developed migraines and even more back and neck problems. After this, I contacted the company and simply demanded our money back because we were not having luck with their mattresses. They did agree to refund us our mattress, but we had to pay $250 to ship it back to them (Newport Bedding refused my request to pay them to ship it back). It was nearly impossible to find a reputable shipping company that only shipped one item. When I finally found a shipping company, they slightly damaged the mattress in transit back to Newport Bedding. And, of course, Newport Bedding charged me $200 to fix the mattress. Customers should never have to bear the cost of a defective product. I spent $700 just to finally return my defective mattress. Worst customer service ever. We are going with online mattress companies from now on--free shipping and returns, and a 100 day trial period. Newport Bedding should check out the customer service of other mattress companies and learn a thing or two. 3/31/17 UPDATE: Contrary to what Newport Bedding has responded below, Tom did ask how heavy my husband was when trying to determine if my husband made our mattress sag in the middle from his weight, and NOT to help me pick out a new mattress. (FYI--my husband is not obese, so this was not the issue.) Also, when I was shopping for my mattress alone in the store, I was very clear to the salesman that I was indeed buying my queen mattress for two people--I said I wanted a mattress that would last me 20+ years and that I could use with my husband once I got married. I specifically said that. Finally, I know your warranty says the customer pays for shipping to ship a mattress to the factory, but you may want to check with your lawyer on the implied warranties inherent in all goods sold in the US. Customers should never have to pay a dime for defective products, and I had to pay $700. read more

We originally weren't planning to purchase an adjustable bed, but when my husband's back is bothering him, this feature is a great help. It's wonderful too that with our adjustable split king we can set the features to our individual preferences. Tom and Scott could not have been more helpful in showing us the different firmnesses and what would suit us best. We knew the features we would enjoy, but were pleased to discover we would come to love those we thought we wouldn't care about that much. Excellent product bought more than five years ago. Great service and house brand is better and cheaper than most of the name brand product sold in the four other stores with in two blocks of this one little store. They even replaced the broken mug which came with the purchase. BTW their matress is double sided. I got the full rig a new box and frame in the deal. They will not pressure you into buying, instead they will say go home & sleep on it, which I did and I came back to the store when I was ready. I can't say enough about the customer service provided by the guys at Newport Bedding. A little over a week ago, I was on my way to another mattress place nearby & almost passed this place. Decided to stop in. The salesman, Steve, was super chill, very sincere; he obviously loves his job. I still wanted to go visit the mattress place that I originally was heading to, so I left and Steve put zero pressure on me to buy the mattress that I liked. Went to the other store, was less than thrilled. They had much less to offer in my price point, and when I asked to see the mattresses in my range, he took me to this far back corner, in another tiny room away from the main floor. The location of the mattress & sales guy made me feel insignificant and cheap. I returned to Newport Bedding and joined three other customers and Steve milling around the mattress that I liked, testing all the surrounding beds and talking about rock music (real rock like Joe Satriani, Steve Miller, etc.). We all sat there talking for about 20 minutes. I felt like I was at a slumber party with some new friends. Turns out all of us selected & purchased the same Diamond pillow top mattress for a great price. Once I got it home, I slept on it for a couple of nights and I felt like the mattress seemed to be less firm right away. It was still comfy, but not the way it was when it had arrived. I called Newport Bedding, and Steve was amazing. When I asked if this was normal, he could have said, "Yes, that mattress has a break in period to adjust to your body," which is what I thought was happening. Steve told me that it is not normal for a mattress to feel different after a few days, and that he'd call Diamond and have it swapped out within the week. In addition, he went above & beyond by delivering it to my house (the one I had originally purchased I had picked up with a friend to avoid having to pay the $45 delivery fee). On Wednesday he told me that they would bring the new mattress on Friday. On Thursday, Steve's associate Dana called me to tell me that they could deliver the mattress that day. Dana also provided superb customer service, and told me that he could have the mattress at my home in 15 minutes from the time of our call. True to his word, the delivery guys were there exactly 15 minutes later. The two guys who delivered the mattress, Alex and - I'm sorry I forgot the other gentleman's name but he was also very helpful & nice - checked my foundation and said it might be that the coils in my foundation weren't as firm as they should be (the foundation I already had before buying the new mattress) but nothing definitive, and with no pressure that I needed to run out & buy a new foundation. He suggested that if this new mattress feels the same as the prior one, I should put it on the floor off the foundation to see if it holds its shape before buying a new foundation. A great suggestion. So I've slept on the new mattress for one night, and it was just as awesome as it was in the store (which was SUPER comfy!). Tonight will be my second night, and hopefully my foundation isn't the problem, and life goes on with a better bed. If, however, it feels similar to the prior mattress, I now know a good method to test out to see if it's my foundation - and I also know where I'll be heading to buy a new one if need be. Big thumbs up to Newport Bedding on their stellar customer service! (And ask to see the picture of Steve when he was younger while you're there; he was a little hottie.) read more

I will have to say that I was extremely pleased with the customer service that Tom and Alex gave me; they were wonderful, wonderful. Aside from the great customer service, the quality of their product is top-knotch! I am so pleased with the mattress they custom-built for my bed. The bedding is top-of-the-line and made from sustainable, organic materials, which is important to me (eco-friendly). Ok, I went into Newport Bedding today, because my daughter has a bed that was made by them 4 years ago. This bed that she has, was brand new and came with our new home that we bought....left by the previous owners. Soooooo, I took a pic of the label on my daughters mattress and went to NB. Now, mind you, my husband and I already bought a new mattress less than two years ago and is just KILLING our backs! And we knew we loved my daughters bed, because when she goes to a sleepover, my husband and I flip a coin for who gets to sleep in her bed that night! HAHA! So, we were helped by Tom, the owner. And what a heck of guy he is! Professional, witty, knowledgable, and..........wait for it.............wait for it.....................................HE ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT YOU AS A CUSTOMER! HE CARES THAT YOU ARE HAPPY AND TELLS YOU THAT HE APPRECIATES YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS! REALLY? In 2014? In Orange County?????? Yes folks! It's true! That good ol' fashioned customer service by the owner and not some slimy Orhto salesman working on commission. Sure we could have maybe payed less elsewhere but you know what? I love their product! And the quality doesn't compare to the crap elsewhere. We already have one in our home and fight over it! And.....hold up! I forgot to tell you this! They make all their own products and you can flip the mattress! Remember how long mattresses used to last when you could flip them? Now, all those 5 thousand dollar mattresses last half the length of time they used to because the manufacturer can make half the product they used to, charge the same amount, and provide half the longevity. Oh, and since this is how the market is now, they get you back in the door sooner to buy another crappy mattress to start the cycle all over again! Customer Service: We just bought an iComfort CalKing mattress from Newport Bedding Company. Steve, Dana and the boys were extremely helpful and answered all of our questions. They did a great job making us feel comfortable buying our first expensive mattress. Our last one we got from Costco over 6 years ago and it was killing our backs. Steve took the time to really let us compare the different types of mattresses and never made us feel like we were wasting his time, even after leaving the store the first day without purchasing anything. Price: We compared the price of the iComfort mattress to all the big stores (JC Penny, Amazon, Sears, etc.) to make sure we got the right price. We did not pay a penny more than the stores selling the same mattress and frame. For those of us who still like to "feel" the product before purchasing it, we had a great experience with Newport Bedding. My advice to customers willing to spend a couple thousand dollars on a mattress is to do your homework before writing the check. Logical and obvious, but necessary. read more

It's okay I already got an attorney to do legal paperwork to take you to court. And it wasn't soil it was a spray tat was used to clean the mattress because you promised delivery a certain day and then after I paid the mattress the day for delivery came up and u said your driver was not available. So I had to borrow a truck and my friend came to help me move the mattress to my home. Since we had to put the mattress in the back of the truck my gf and I decided to use a spray to clean it and it stained the mattress! read more

I was in from out of town and they worked with me to get them made and delivered quickly. When I had to change from a King to a Queen, then back to a King... They were so great. Ordered a twin mattress and basic frame for a boys bedroom. Dana was very helpful and advised us on exactly what we needed. The delivery guy, Alex, was on time and very professional. Not only did he have to maneuver his truck around an arsenal of other work trucks and bumper to bumper high school student vehicles, he trekked the frame, box spring and mattress uphill through a mess of a yard strewn with dirt, plants, boulders, and flagstone! The staff was helpful but the mattress was completely not worth the $1,000 we paid for it. We were told that the Newport Bedding company used superior materials and it was all family owned so we decided that spending a little extra to support a local family business was worth it. However, after only a year the mattress was already sagging. My husband and I are both small people weighing under 130lbs each so there is no reason the mattress should have started to sag to the point that we both roll...literally roll to the center of the bed during the night. I would say the mattress sags a good 2-3 inches when we are not even laying on it. So you can imagine the crater that is created when someone lays on it! We followed all the directions of rotating and flipping the mattress which obviously did not help. When we called to ask if they would stand behind their product they said they would not because we were one step below their "luxury" mattress so our $1,000 queen size mattress was not pricey enough for them to stand behind. Just avoid Newport Bedding and go for a cheaper mattress and larger company. read more

I had a bad experience at a mattress store down the street.. so I decided to check this place out. I walk in.. there were three gentlemen standing in the back of the store looking at a computer. I would never buy a bed anywhere else! After a deep dive online which led me to flirt with foam, I found Newport Bedding here on Yelp. I drove over because of the good reviews and because I think its really important to support exceptional local businesses. Alex immediately took it upon himself to educate me, using their props which take you into the bed springs! It was more than I thought I wanted to know about what I sleep on, but when I started 'sleeping around' by testing their mattresses, I felt so much better equipped to appreciate what I like and need, which is very important because I have serious lower back issues. Out with the foam, which just felt too squishy for me. Alex and the owner Tom remained extremely helpful and patient with me as I returned 2-3 times over the next several months, narrowing down my choices, looking longingly at the adjustable mattress which was something entirely new for me but beyond my price point. I never felt pressured to up my budget, not from Alex nor Tom. They understood what I wanted and guided me towards the Queen size Ultima set that I eventually purchased for a very fair price, based on my research here in the shop, at a nearby competitor and online. Alex also took time to explain how to protect my mattress so I won't need to come back and buy another for decades, which is only a bummer because these guys are so great. Unfortunately, after a few days the adjustable base was defective. Steve was our sales guy, and he was not pushy, let us talk about what we wanted and we never felt like he was in a hurry or HAD to make the sale. DO NOT BUY A BED FROM THEM! Wow! These people are awful! My dad has parkinsons and is dying and on hospice at his house. So, we wanted to get him a remote control bed. My mom had one already that she bought from Newport bedding and she gave my dad her two year old 7 thousand dollar remote mattress and bought herself a new one. The owner moved the bed from my moms to my dads. Before they install the company is suppose to measure your current headboard to make sure there is enough room for the bed to move up and down. We paid the owner $300 to move my moms bed to my dad's. The owner told me this was a favor! HA! I'll take $300 any day to move a bed. Anyway, long story short he installs the bed without measuring and in the middle of the night my dad used the remote control to move the bed up. The entire bed frame broke! So, I called the owner to say hey man our bed frame is broken could you fix it...He came out and removed the bed frame and said there you go. My dad can't speak that well and I was not there when this happened so my dad said ok not really knowing what was going on. My dad needs the frame to help himself up. The owner refused to get us a new frame and said it wasn't his fault and not his responsibility! Are you serious? My dad had a bed frame and now he doesn't it is pretty cut and dry. He gave me some talk about how our bed frame was broken before which was a complete joke! The bed bought from my moms was purchased from them. We spent all that money and they wouldn't correct their wrong! Who does that? Especially to a man that's dying! The level of humanity here is ridiculous! I can't believe I live in a town with people that act like this! Obviously, they did not measure properly and are completely at fault! Clearly these people will not own up to their mistake and I would avoid them at all costs because if something goes wrong they will not make it right! read more
