After 10 years of treatment at Loma Linda Dental School, which offered no further treatment to me once COVID-19 altered the way things were done there, I needed local treatment. I have a complex, post throat cancer, dental situation. I needed a local dentist for a comprehensive solution. Before selecting Guru Dentistry, I visited 7 other dental offices over a nearly 5-year search, and had preliminary examinations at each office, some for free and others for which I paid (including copies of x-rays and complete reports). I chose Guru for numerous reasons: location in proximity to my residence, cleanliness, spaciousness (I felt cramped at other practices), attractiveness of décor, friendliness of staff (Vanessa, Leslie and Yvette), and state of the art technology. But mostly because Dr. Vanila took her valuable time with me on three preliminary visits over a two-plus year duration (at no charge) patiently answering all of my questions to my satisfaction. When she became expert with the Yomi robotic system for placing implants, I was sold. I have never second guessed my decision. She and her excellent technicians (Juriko, Vik, and Emanuel), with Yomi's help, removed what was left of my natural teeth and placed 12 implants successfully to hold upper and lower dentures. I was not awake during the day of my surgery. Dr. Vanila and Vik helped my friend get me home, which was over-and-above the call of duty. When I re-awoke, I felt zero pain. I followed her directives to the letter. I was psychologically prepared for the radical change in my mouth. Even though I am on blood thinners for a heart condition, the bleeding ceased in under 12 hours post surgery. I had premade some soups and had all the ingredients for milkshakes, etc. I did not feel deprived. The months of recovery, allowing the jawbone and gums to heal properly and accept my implants, have gone by very quickly (for me, anyway). Guru Dentistry have provided numerous follow-up visits as part of the overall plan. Vanessa, Leslie, and Yvette have been VERY helpful in making my appointments convenient and fun. Besides Dr. Vanila, Dr. Hewko has listened to my concerns and has been of valuable consult, too. Juriko, Emanuel and Vik have provided continual expert, personable support with multiple adjustments during the process. I feel improvement during every visit. I never feel rushed. Being a patient is like being a member of the Guru family. I am nearing completion on the road to final dentures and I couldn't be happier. I will write more when all is done. In the meantime (after 7 months), I am eating popcorn, salads, and just about anything and everything again. Culinary heaven! All of my friends are amazed at the difference in my smile and the utility of having a fully functioning mouth after over a decade of limited use. Never thought I would hear these words come out of my mouth, but I love my dentist! I have severe dental anxiety and very sensitive teeth from years of clenching. I had many previous dentists, but I would cancel appointments or just not go because the anxiety was so bad. I know putting off regular dental cleanings is not good for you so I called one of my prior dentists and they referred me to Guru Dentistry. I met with Dr. Vanilla and her team before scheduling any work. They all got it and didn't dismiss my anxiety. They came up with a plan and I elected the sedation dentistry option.
