DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTISTRY! I had an incredibly frustrating and painful experience at 17th St Modern Dentistry. I went in for a treatment, but the doctor did not follow the correct procedure and instead caused severe pain and discomfort. The crowns exacerbated my issues, leading to the need for heavy medication just to manage the pain. After enduring this for some time, I sought a second opinion from another dentist, who quickly identified that I had been the victim of malpractice. This new dentist corrected the issues and properly performed the root canals, resolving the pain and complications caused by the original procedure. I strongly advise anyone considering this practice to be cautious. The lack of proper care and knowledge from this dentist caused me significant physical and emotional distress, and I would never recommend them to anyone. I've been coming here for years, even after moving half an hour away but recent experiences are making me consider changing dentists. I request Dr Walker for my appts but receptionists keep scheduling me with other providers which defeats the purpose of driving out here to see him. But my most recent experience has been what's making me consider changing dentists- I scheduled an appointment with Dr Walker and of course when I get there they tell me that I'm scheduled with someone else. I was already there so I agreed to see the other provider. Well apparently this new dentist isn't 100% transitioned to be covered by insurance companies the traditional way or something so they had me sign a document that insurance would send me a check and that I would then pay them. Well I haven't received a check from my insurance company yet, I'm checking the mail every day, but they have been HARASSING me to pay them. I've been receiving phone calls, emails, texts like I'm some criminal. It's not my fault I haven't received the check. I will be more than happy to pay them and get them off my back as soon as I receive this check. This has been such an incredibly frustrating and stressful experience and it's not my fault that they hired someone before they were ready to be fully covered by insurance the normal way. They are creating such a burden to their patients by having us deal with this. I was driving an hour round trip to see them but this experience has me wanting to never go back and instead find a new dentist closer to home. read more

I had a same day crown placed by Dr. Joseph Bui in December 2023. I had sensitivity to tap water after it was placed, but did not return to the office because of the lack of concern, and unprofessionalism. In addition, the care coordinator I spoke with regarding a payment plan FORGOT about our discussion, and the entire amount for my treatment was taken from my bank account without my authorization. After much discussion, the money was put back. The worst part is I had the crown removed a couple weeks ago because it was sticking to basic foods. At that time, I was informed the margins on my tooth were off, so food and bacteria were able to get under the crown. Less than two years after it was placed, I had to have the drown removed, and the tooth which was initially only cracked with no decay was completely decayed and black. After two years, extensive damage was done by Dr. Joseph mistake. It was a huge mistake on Dr. Bui's part, and a huge expense for me. Due to the unprofessionalism on the part of the office staff and other dentists, I definitely would not recommend 17th Street Modern Dentistry under any circumstances. read more

I came in for a routine dental cleaning, which I never got, and instead proceeded to tell me that I needed a deep cleaning, I needed to extract a tooth and that I needed to fix my teeth from grinding. Although the dentist and staff are super friendly, I don't recommend this dentist because of the billing issues. They have consistently tried to upsell my cleanings every visit with fluoride and have consistently given me one price in the office but mailed me a bill a few months later. This has happened multiple times where I paid in full in the office and got a bill for hundreds of dollars a few months later. It's incredibly frustrating to be told one price in person and charged way more after the fact. Most notably they charged me $800 nearly a year after having wisdom teeth removed. It took me weeks to get in touch with anyone useful and I still never saw an itemized bill of what I was actually charged for. I highly recommend finding a dentist that has a better billing process. The dentist is great and the staff is too, but it's not worth the headache and expense you'll be charged. read more

Absolutely would recommend. The front staff is very personable and professional. Two very difficult marks to hit, but they do it flawlessly. They are mindful of your financial situation and do everything they can to help, including applying for credit/ providing payment plans. The best part is that they all seem to really care. The doctors are top quality, diagnosed, and started work righted away with kindness and high quality work. It is truly a one-stop-shop as they bring the service to you rather than sending you off to another office for oral surgery, effectively making very easy for me to get the help I need. Joseph Bui, DDS, Gianna, Destiny & staff are AWEsome! I'm a new patient. Came in as a walk-in to gauge office dynamics. Dr Bui had a break in his busy day to answer questions about my complicated dental issues. Scheduled initial visit for x-rays. Second visit Dr Bui replaced my crown (post root canal) w/ premium CEREC ceramic crown -- all done same day; no need for lab! (But they also offer lab, when needed.) He also fixed tiny crack front tooth. Both teeth now look & feel great! Procedure was virtually painless & seamless. Dr Bui has THE best bedside manners, is patient, kind & explains procedure well. Impressed w/ their modern equipment, protocols, professionalism and non judgmental attitude. FYI, for all those commenting on 'upselling'. Most dentists do that, when necessary (even my BFF who's a FL dentist). Ie, some patients who don't have impeccable dental hygiene need costly deeper cleaning and expensive dental work. This office is a scam. I called ahead and asked if they would help me repair a small crack in my front tooth with bonding, they said yes and gave me a cash price that I was ok with. Then when I got to the office they told me I needed 4-6 crowns, which are not covered by insurance, and then the dentist refused to repair the cracked front tooth. They wanted me to spend $4000-$6000 with their "treatment plan" when they quoted me $200-$300 on the phone. SCAMMING patients for thousands of dollars when the problem could be fixed for $200-$300 is NOT ethical and this place should be shut down. These dentists are not in business to help people, they are just there to gouge their bank accounts. They also took more X-rays than needed and now I'm worried they are going to overcharge me. They said my insurance would cover them but I am concerned after reading other reviews. read more

Not impressed. I just moved from out of state and needed a new dentist. 17th street has great reviews so I tried it. They did about 10 X-rays, then a full CT scan of my head to "check your sinuses". I didn't even know what a CT scan was until I went home and googled it. Several pages say that CT scans should not be used for routine care because they expose the patient to a high amount of radiation... For what? To check my sinuses? I'm so mad that they did this. There was no reason to suspect I had any sinus problems. Clearly they're doing this so they can bill it to the insurance company. Then Dr. Kong checked my teeth. He told me I have moderate gum disease and that he needed to do a "deep clean" on my lower incisors. I thought this meant a routine cleaning so I said sure. Then the receptionist came in to break down the cost. The "deep clean" procedure was actually a $1400 procedure with a $200 out of pocket expense, which they asked me to accept while I was already sitting in the exam chair. I've had some gum recession problems in previous exams at my old dentist, but I've never been told I'm even close to moderate gum disease or the need for a deep clean removal. The whole thing felt fishy... So I opted for the normal clean. It was the silliest teeth cleaning ever. My teeth were polished for 5 minutes, then the hygienist slathered fluoride on me and let me go. Then I came on yelp and looked at all the one star reviews for this place... They all list the same experience that I had. It definitely felt like going to the auto mechanic. I am so mad they did an unnecessary CT scan without explanation. Don't go here. read more

I have had extensive dental work done over the years, some great and some def not... more root canals, crowns, fillings, extractions than I like to mention... so I am picky about my dentist! (Take care of your teeth when you're younger y'all!) When I moved down here from SF 11 years ago, I left my beloved dentist there and used to fly back every six months to see him! The front staff is thorough with explanation of cost and treatment. And they're all so sweet, fun, and personable!! This place is a dental cash machine. I have had good teeth and all of my teeth for 57 years. They upsold me to a deep cleaning & had another $2000 of things that they recommended before I could blink an eye. It also was an hour & forty five minute appointment for a cleaning (mostly selling). Lots of up selling & then they give you a "courtesy" discount & then your benefit coordinator comes in to explain everything. I wanted my teeth cleaned. I did not want to negotiate like I was buying a car! Much to their chagrin I did not get any of the additional work, did have a regular cleaning & left immediately to never return. read more

After Dr. Bui's initial "diagnosis" along with Gianna Santos, they decided my wife "needed" a "deep cleaning" with laser irrigation. They pressured her into making a hasty, out-of-pocket decision. They told her that they could ONLY do the deep cleaning and not the regular one she was scheduled for i.e. the one insurance would cover 100%. Insurance would not cover any percentage of said procedure aka "deep cleaning". She believed she "had to" pay and didn't have a way out. It was extremely predatory the way they made her believe it was "medically necessary" to do said procedure. Avoid these scam artists, I mean, dentist's office at all costs if possible!!! read more

Who has Dentophobia? Me! Had to get a root canal and a crown done because of a painful abscess. Dr Hayashi did the tooth candy in 20 minutes with no pain. Even the Novocain shots were pain-free. Apparently, Dr Hayashi is some sort of dental Ninja. Dr. Walker is to dental work what Picasso was to art: he merrily goes about his work using an office packed with the latest technology. No more posts inside your gum for a crown. They shape the tooth to receive the crown by making a sort of dovetail like receptacle from your natural tooth. They then 3D scam the tooth and print a porcelain crown while you're in the office.from start to finish, it was about 90 minutes, including the wait time to print, tweak and polish the crown. Five more minutes to let the cement dry, and you're on your way. In 35 years of going to the dentist, I've never had a more pleasant and pain-free experience. The office is new, clean and staffed with very professional and talented people. Definitely recommended for cowards of all ages. read more

Husband and I went for routine checkups because our regular dentist was booked and they told us we both have teeth grinding and gingivitis and couldn't get a regular cleaning because it would just push the bacteria everywhere and instead needed to do an expensive gum cleaning. This dentist was a choice I was given with my HMO dental insurance policy. Wrong choice! I hadn't been to the dentist for a year and a half, so I needed new xrays and cleaning. The dentist took my distal measurements and advised me that I need (4) deep cleanings because I have periodontal disease. My previous dentist had never mentioned that I was even borderline. The price he quoted was $800+ per cleaning, after insurance. He also advised that I have a night guard made because I was experiencing TMJ symptoms. The technician had to take 2 impressions to get a good one and THEN, I was called in for a 3rd impression because it still wasn't right. So, I did. They never called to even tell me the night guard, which I had paid $300 for, was ready. I became suspicious and booked a cash appointment with my previous dentist to get his reading on the distal measurements. They were 3s and 4s, the same as the last visit vs the 5s and 6s that 17th Street Modern Dentistry reported. I did NOT need the deep cleanings! So, I checked with this reliable dentist for a price quote in the event I did need the deep cleanings and he quoted me 1/2 the price without insurance! Then, I went in to 17th Street Modern Dentistry to pick up my night guard. I took it home, tried it on, and it was made for someone else's mouth because it certainly didn't fit mine. I returned and got my money back on the night guard and let them know that I was aware of the discrepancy in distal readings and that I was not coming back. I asked the my X-rays be forwarded to my previous dentist. Today I went to my original dentist for cleaning and 17th Street had not sent my X-rays after 2 1/2 weeks. So, the dentist called to request the Xrays be emailed over. The hygenist kept comparing the xrays to my mouth and finally concluded, "These are not your X-rays." They even sent the wrong X-rays! How can any dental office be this incompetent?! After a 2nd call, they sent the correct X-rays and I must say that I'm more than happy to pay full boat without insurance just to get a dentist who I know is quite competent as well as honest. Every experience I've had with a dentist or practice has been lackluster. 17th street modern dentistry has set the bar for me. From the moment I walked in, to the things I need to address with my teeth, it has been seamless. The staff across the board is welcoming and friendly. The doctors are clear and precise with my dental hygiene and provide their advise on how to proceed. Additionally, the facility is clean. During my time here everyone wore masks and proper PPE, wipes counters, and followed the protocols to make sure the place stayed clean and sterile. I am no longer dreading dentist appointments. The dentistry is not my favorite place, to be honest. But Dr. Walker made me feel very comfortable and at ease from the first minute. He is kind, knowledgeable and gentle which is a great + when you're in that seat. The staff was great too, the place is brand new and super clean, great location, plenty of free parking around. As part of the special they're running currently, I got a home whitening kit and a new patient goodie bag as a gift. I felt rewarded like a little kid for behaving good haha.
