The products were were nice but as soon as Susan realized I was not going to spend a lot of money she had a bad attitude and didn't want to give me the time of day. She was also particularly annoyed when I didn't like her suggestions. I would never go back there. read more

I went into this store the other day to look for drawer pulls. I was the only person in the store and from the minute I stepped in the woman, Sue, clearly didn't have an interest in assisting me. She must have been able to sniff out that I didn't have deep pockets but I do have the means to buy quality and smart design when it's warranted. Rude is the best way to describe her. And now I see that several other people have had the same experience. I would suggest to anyone whether you have the dollars to spend or not - spend your money on kind and friendly local businesses. Mark is an excellent locksmith and was able to key all the locks in my home to one single key in a morning! The store offers a wide variety of locks, knobs, pulls, etc. Choosing hardware is difficult to do online. Pop into Newton Decorative Hardware and you can see, touch, turn, and pull to find exactly what you need/want! Did I mention that their turn around time is fast?! It was a joy to work with Susan, who is very knowledgeable and quickly guided me to the options that would work in our arts and crafts kitchen. This was the first time I had ever chosen hardware and I had already visited another large decorative hardware store where the salespeople could not be bothered to greet me and my husband, much less spend the time needed to help us sort through the seemingly endless choices. I gave this place two stars because it's clear they do have very nice stuff, with prices to match. But the attitude of the person who helped me -- I assume, going by the other reviews, that it was Susan, the owner -- was so know-it-all-ish and frankly condescending that I would never, ever go back there. The job of an owner or sales person is not to make the customer feel stupid, or feel as if they have no design sense at all (and I happen to have quite a bit of design sense). I guess that's not the philosophy at this place. But maybe that's the difference between Newton, where the store is, and Brookline, where I live. read more

I went there 1 month ago because I had a very nice experience with a gentleman who was very helpful. I went back there today to follow up on making a decision on which hardware to order and had a totally different, rather upsetting experience. I walked in, no one looked up from their phone or their computer. After a minute or two, the woman, Sue I believe asked if she could help me. She showed me a few items, then ran into someone in the store she knew, starting talking with him, then started helping him pick out something, while I stood there waiting for her to continue helping me. After a few minutes she acknowledged I was standing there and I said, "I do have a few more questions". She resumed helping me from where we left off for about one minute, then went back to talking with this person and again picking out things for him. It was so obviously rude, I couldn't believe it!! Maybe she figured because I couldn't spend $18 on one cabinet pull, I may have not been worth serving as a customer? Who knows, who cares. Picked up my cabinet and walked out, letting her know her behavior was very unkind in the least. I will never return there or recommend them to anyone read more

My husband and I worked with Susan, the owner, to select cabinet hardware for our remodel. We found both Susan and her mom Ruth to be extremely nice and welcoming. This is our first remodel and Susan spent a lot of time with us going over different options at different price points. She always gave us her honest opinion and we never felt pressured to buy. However, after going to Newton Decorative Hardware, seeing their selection, getting terrific advice from Susan and comparing their price with on-line sites, I bought from NDH and am soooo pleased. This shop is such an incredible gem. They have more beautiful knobs and pulls than you could ever think of, and their staff is knowledgeable, helpful and extremely patient.
