I adopted my first dog through Pupstarz in 2022. I had never owned a dog on my own before and they were the first rescue to get back to me while still doing a thorough review of my application. Because the initial dog I applied for already had applications from other people, they worked with me on finding another dog. I was able to "foster to adopt" a puppy that fit my criteria and had not yet been in foster care. This made me feel more at ease knowing I had a few days to decide if my new puppy was actually a good fit for me before the decision was final. After my puppy got a little older and I became more experienced, I started fostering with them. I've fostered 6 dogs so far (one which I kept). One of the things that sets them apart from other rescues is their partner shelter. Their partner shelter acts more like a sanctuary therefore the dogs are truly taken care of and you can tell the difference as opposed to other more over crowded shelters. I can't recommend Pupstarz enough! They are one of the most efficient rescues when it comes to reviewing applications and trying to get dogs adopted yet they still do thorough checks to ensure safety for both the dog and the adopter. My dog (based on Embark DNA Age test) is a minimum of 9 years older than posted. They didn't diagnose that he's deaf, and more... Pupstarz obtained the dog I adopted from Tennessee. When the dogs arrive from Tennessee, they go directly to the foster home without a medical exam. I'm giving this two stars because the foster parents were great! read more

Pupstarz changed our lives in May of 2022. After months of searching for a kitten to adopt, my husband and I fell in love with a gorgeous Tuxedo named Boots (fka Milo). At that time I reached out, and received an email response the next day. I appreciated the fact that we had already completed a lengthy questionnaire (I love knowing that care is taken to find the right home). We had to provide references (again, appreciated!!!) And were able to do a home walkthrough via video call. During that call we answered and asked questions, were given tips on how to kitten proof our home (so many things you don't think of, again so helpful). Bringing home a second kitten was mentioned and we didn't think we should so we moved forward with the adoption of 1 cat. A few weeks later we met him and his siblings at his fosters house where we fell in love. We completed the process and just needed to wait for him to be big enough for neutering. At that time we decided (of course because who wouldn't) to adopt his brother named Milo (fka Mickey) as well. We had a medical issue with Milo a few days after he came home. After submitting my home video, they accidentally put me in a chain email calling my home SLOPPY, I have no words. So unprofessional. In my defense, they said they needed the video that same day. My house was a little messy due to the fact that the holidays are around the corner, I had boxes out, I was rearranging, I was going to explain that in the email, but figured it wasn't that bad. We had such a wonderful experience with Pupstarz. I searched Petfinder every day for over 2 months looking for a miniature Poodle to adopt where I did not have to personally deal with transportation to NY which made me nervous. There were 2 others I applied for thorugh different shelters/rescues but never heard back. Then I found Chicago on Petfinder posted by Pupstarz. She was the most adorable Mini Poodle/Aussiedoodle mix and I applied. I heard back the following day that Chicago would be arriving in a little over a week from their rescue partners in Tennesee and was available to Foster to Adopt. If I was interested I was to provide a video of my home and they would check my references. I provided and heard back right away and was given constant communication about how to prepare for a puppy and about pickup on the following weekend at 6:30am in NYC. That part sounded a bit sketchy to me.. I was picturing one person handing me a cage lol. But it was actually about 20+ people waiting for the truck from Tennesee to be unloaded. it was so joyous to see all of these people and all of these pets being connected! We renamed Chicago "Roxie" (as in "Roxie Hart" from the play Chicago) and we couldn't be happier with this experience. The most amazing part is that it is run by all volunteers.
