When I asked to speak with Merlinda (Sandstrom Assoc) at work in 2020. We set up annuities to use when I retire in five years. I feel betrayed by this office…read more This is NOT the level of professionalism I have come to expect from a corporate company with a reputation like ALLSTATE The office is efficient and surprisingly callous when it comes to increasing your premium over 300% Bob, will tell you (not very confidently either) how much corporate sucks and how stupid the laws are but how he has no choice but to enforce the rates "approved by California" and somehow he thinks that's justifies an astronomical increase. He seemed to be well versed in California Insurance law so I inquired about consumer protections and rate increase limits, and suddenly he became ignorant. Bob disappointed me with his disparaging comments about Allstate Corporate, I'll be contacting them later this month as I am too busy moving to take the time a correspondence effort like that would require me to coordinate at the moment. But stay tuned, I won't go quietly into this void. Thanks for calling me back so quickly it only took you four hours Bob, pretty impressive for an agent so useless in the overall scheme of things. For the record: Allstate corporate policies and rates are not Stupid, but how the rules can be bent to justify this sort of abuse deserve investigation. Bob Souza is not correct to implement such an outrageous price hike on any policy. Tripling a monthly payment is by far a painful and masochistic action. I switched from Lemonade to State Farm after I found out that they could not offer earthquake insurance for my rental policy. I switched to State Farm figuring that I could get both here. I got a quote online and the agent was someone I knew personally from my youth. I paid for more than I needed figuring that more coverage was better than less and that was that. Enter Farmer's Insurance and Sarah. Sarah went into detail as to what State Farm did and did not cover. I was overpaying for a policy that would cover the value of my items today, not what it would ACTUALLY cost to replace them. So even if I bought that couch brand new, I would be SOOL and get pennies on the dollar. She also let me know that they offer policies for people who don't own cars but rent them on a regular basis which I do. She went over and above to find me every discount (she went in detail with my credit card company which offered CDW and saved me money there). She saw the rental insurance I was using from the rental company really didn't cover me, only the vehicle. I was shocked that I was essentially driving naked and an accident is not a good time to find out. She combined the policies and therefore wasn't paying an outrageous amount for the policies together. Sarah essentially showed me the value I was receiving if I went with them. I felt safer and better understood what I actually purchased instead of just guessing and hoping I was covered. I know for a fact what is and is not covered. I help take care of my 87 and 89 year old parents. I had my insurance broker take a look at their…read moreplan and she was able to save them hundreds of dollars! They have not heard from their current agency ( North Hills Insurance Svcs. ) in over 20 years. They do not even remember who they originally bought the policy from. My agent sent North Hills Insurance Svcs. ( see attachment below ) a standard form for them to release my parents so that their new broker of choice can handle their accounts. North Hills Insurance refused to release my parents and furthermore wrote the rudest note to my broker.......SEE BELOW. I called the agency yesterday and Timothy Regan ( office manager/owner) called me back this morning. I explained the situation very nicely and told him that I couldn't believe what a nasty note he wrote back. His response to me was "that was my father who started the business 30 years ago". He said they were not going to release my parents ( seriously......do you believe this! ) and that I should just get used to the idea! I said I would then need to invoke the "Birthday Rule" and he promptly hung up on me. Two things to clarify......."older" insurance policies used to be written so that the agent's heirs would continue to collect commissions after they passed away and they did not have to release anyone......this is no longer done.The "Birthday Rule" can change all of that now.......If you find yourself in this situation......you wait until it is the insured's birthday and then you no longer need the older agent of record's approval. Quite clearly, that is what we will be doing. My parents should have access to a professional agent whose desire is to provide quality service. The agents at North Hills Insurance deserve to be reprimanded, at the very least. Truly a disgrace to the industry. I have already taken steps with the DOI and Anthem to report their horrific treatment.
