They work on both newer and older units and will give you honest input on the life you may have left in your existing unit vs just having someone tell you buy a new unit even if you can get a few more years out of the old one. I have to admit that Boris was not my first call to fix our furnace, but I regret that now. After dealing with another company who diagnosed the problem but was slow in actually fixing it, I contacted Boris and explained the problem. Since I already knew what part needed to be replaced, he was able to pick it up and replace it within 24 hours. Although his price was slightly higher than the other quote I received, I really appreciated his responsiveness. He provided several updates about his progress on obtaining the part and arrived at our house when he said he would. These things sound somewhat trivial but unfortunately are not standard for other home repair providers I've used. Called Next Step because we were looking for an air conditioner that was quiet so it didn't disturb our neighbors. The estimate was inline or lower than our unusual provider and they arranged for us to view the unit at their distributor to conduct a sound test to assure that the unit wouldn't disturb our neighbors. My chiropractor actually referred me to these guys after I was complaining to him about how my failing a/c unit was impacting the quality of my sleep. At the time of the conversation, I was prepared to purchase a whole new unit because of its age and my general skepticism of repair services. But, I eventually decided to act on the reference and called Next Step later that afternoon. Boris came out to my place in Irving Park within a couple hours after my call. I fully was prepared to schedule an estimate for the following day, but he assured me that he could make it out that evening because of how hot the forecast was for that night. I wasn't going to argue. It was almost 7pm when he came to my place, but despite how late it was, he was extremely friendly (and funny!) and didn't seem at all rushed to get out of there. I thought he was just going to just inspect the unit, tell me my options, and charge me a fee, but instead he just gave me an incredibly reasonable estimate and got to work, fixing the issue within twenty minutes. Apparently, it was something to do with some sort of capacitor...? Anyway, the A/C unit has been working well in the month since I got the repair. I still imagine I'll have to replace the unit soon, but will definitely consider calling Next Step when the time comes to make that decision. read more

He was extremely knowledgeable and after assessing our home and ductwork, informed us on what the best replacement would be. He is certified to install many types of systems. The quote provided was extremely fair and his warranty was much better than our other quotes. He rearranged his schedule to accommodate ours and we had the new AMAZING system installed two days later. Our air has never been this good! The system that he recommended is absolutely phenomenal! I am so pleased with Next Step. I called in the evening when many other companies were closed. I didn't expect to hear back so quickly. Boris listened to my situation and offered to stop by that same evening. In 2004, Next Step installed my zoned heating and AC during a full-scale rehab on my home....2 furnaces and 2 AC's. The systems have worked great and in the time since installation, have only had to call them a couple of times to do minor repairs. Each time, they responded quickly (and even on a Sunday!) and had the problem repaired same day or next day, depending on part availability.
