After having a terrible experience with another dentist in Portland I searched for months for a new dentist until I got to the point of experiencing a fall that resulted in a couple of broken teeth and desperately needed to get in somewhere. This dentist office doesn't pop up right away in the search options for OHP accepting dentists but after some referrals to really scarrrrry looking establishments I dug a little bit deeper and I am SO glad I did!!! Not only did Southwest Hills get me in the very next week! But they were so easy to communicate with via email and text because my mouth was in pain so speaking on the phone wasn't very fun at that moment. The 2 receptionists I dealt with were extremely friendly and efficient, and their intake paperwork is very simple and fully able to be done online before your appointment. Upon getting to the location some people in the comments here seem to be judgmental about the building alone, which is already rude in my opinion, but it's located in what you could say is akin to an older small business building how a lot of doctor's offices were in the 90's. It's older "looking" but very well unkept on the inside and actually pretty charming, very clean and cutesy retro. Staff again was very friendly upon my arrival at the appointment and I did not have to wait long to be called back. The hygienist who took care of me was absolutely lovely and was so fun to talk with we really got to chatting and it calmed my nerves so much! She also had a really cool handheld camera-like device to do the X-rays which made it extremely quick and painless with none of that running out of the room between every click business. She was so gentle in her exam and very educational on what I should and could be doing for my teeth! Next was the dentist himself Christopher Hill. What an absolute gem. I told him some of my bad experiences from other dentists and the judgements I have faced being on OHP and he sincerely apologized that I had to go through that and told me he does not care at all what insurance I have, that he's just happy to have me in his chair taking care of my teeth. So kind. He also gives very good discounts on things like crowns to his OHP patients which is a huge blessing. He conducted his exam which was also very gentle and painless, even giving me a screening for oral cancer which I have never had a dentist do which I thought was pretty neat, and came up with a great game plan for getting my teeth all fixed up! Within a month I have 2 returning appointments already booked and was offered anxiety medication when I expressed some fears I have. Overall absolute 10/10 experience here and I can't wait to come back for the rest of my appointments and get my teeth back to beautiful again, and if you are hesitant about dentists or have OHP this is the place for you! I was not paid or persuaded in any way to leave this review and honestly I've never left an online review of any service like this before, but I thought it was important for anyone struggling like I was to see this and get the help they need. My case required a referral to OHSU, which was submitted in April. After waiting nearly nine weeks without hearing anything and making multiple attempts to follow up, I reached back out to SW Hills Dentistry hoping they would advocate for me or help move my care forward. Instead, I was repeatedly told to call someone else and essentially left to navigate the situation on my own. What was most upsetting was not the delay itself, but the complete lack of empathy and professionalism shown throughout the process. Several email responses came across as rude, dismissive, and unnecessarily defensive. Rather than acknowledging my concerns or attempting to provide compassionate support, I was told there was nothing they could do and, after expressing my disappointment with my experience and with Dr. Hill's demeanor, I was effectively told to find another dentist and sent a records release form. The email stating, "Since you think Dr. Hill is rude and unpleasant this isn't a good fit," was particularly unprofessional and felt more like a personal reaction than a response from a healthcare provider. Patients should be able to provide honest feedback without being met with defensiveness. I understand specialists and insurance networks are outside of their control. However, kindness, empathy, and professionalism are entirely within their control, and unfortunately those qualities were lacking in my experience. I never expected miracles, only compassion and some level of advocacy. Instead, I was made to feel like an inconvenience. I would not recommend this office to anyone looking for a provider who values communication, patient support, and professionalism.

Now that I have visited the office several times, I feel like I can provide an informed review…read more I've had an initial screening with x-rays, a cleaning with root planing and scaling (if you just shivered a little, that was the correct reaction), filled a cavity and replaced an old filling, and got fitted for a night guard. I am not a great patient; I have anxiety about visiting the dentist. It isn't irrational - I got this way after a lifetime of experiences that don't need to be recounted here. Just wanted to say I'm not crazy, I'm just a little broken. Because of this, I don't go to the dentist very often. I take really good care of my teeth and gums and hope for the best. I knew that I had a filling that needed to be replaced, though, so I've been on the lookout for a provider. I had one, but they kept saying I had a phobia and I know this might be a small thing, and maybe for me it was simply an excuse to not go, but I don't have a phobia. I have anxiety. There's a huge difference. Anyway. The office is on Sandy, in a beautiful blue house with big windows and a sign that says, "new patients welcome". I drive by it all the time, so I had many chances to be reminded and think about it. It took a year or two, but I finally called and made an appointment. They fit me right in for an intake. Great covid precautions in place, not too many patients in there at one time. It's a small practice, so you're going to see the same handful of people every time. For me, that is essential. Trust - it's a real thing and its hard to build when the office has a huge staff. The first appointment was fine, I knew there would be some poking but no heavy machinery. Every time the doctor said my gum gap was more than a 3 I died a little on the inside because I knew it meant some intervention was coming my way. Sure enough - gotta get those gum pockets cleaned out, fill a cavity, replace that filling (the one I could see was deteriorating and I don't know - I hoped would magically get better while I slept?), and get a night guard before I ground my teeth down to smooth stones. Everyone was so nice, explained things in detail, and made sure I understood the plan. I left dreading the next appointment, honestly, but at least I felt like I could make it through. The two appointments for the root planing and scaling also went very well. I'm a red head and studies have shown that we are extra in many ways, the pertinent one being that we need more anesthetic when getting procedures. I had several shots, which in themselves were unpleasant. The cleaning, though, once I was numb, wasn't too bad. I really enjoyed the conversation (my half of it was mumbled) and the time went by fast. Today I had the cavity filled and the other filling replaced and I was a MESS. Just a mess. Shaking, crying, having a really hard time keeping it together. And it was all me, there was nothing happening to make me upset or uncomfortable except for the wild ride going on inside my mind. I hate being this way, and I'm working on it. But it's hard. Dr. Agee and the assistants, and the receptionist, and even the dog know that I'm struggling and they make it as easy as they can. They wait, and they give me space and tissues, and a towel to squeeze. They tell me I can stop them any time I need to, and I did. Then, when it was time to get back in there, Dr. Agee fired up that drill and took care of it like he was working on a formula car in a race pit. The part I really had a hard time with went by in a blink, and I am so grateful for that. The nightguard fitting was so easy to do it doesn't even need to be talked about. Let me wrap up this long review by saying that they are stuck with me now. I know them, I trust them, I will come back (regularly, not just every couple of years). They were both very knowledgable and we discussed lots of options for my teeth going forward--I learned more than I have here about my teeth than other docs in the area. I finally got my crown replaced (at another dentist office) so I thought I would finally write about my experience, especially since my new dentist has made this such a pleasant experience. I was looking for a new dentist that took my insurance and came across this place. From my first visit to last visit every appt was unenjoyable. From the sketchy stairs, pee smelled elevator, office gossip, I do NOT recommend going here. Also the fact that they say they're a "Holistic" dentist but they're not. The receptionist started by giving me another patients info (total HIPAA violation). The dental assistant Mary was discussing workplace annoyances to me. My first appt was getting my temporary crown placed. While in the parking lot leaving, my temp crown fell out and was loose in my mouth. I was so shocked, not once was it mentioned that was a possibility, not to mention the possible choking hazard. I went back in to let them know and they treated it so nonchalant. I came back 2 weeks later to have my permanent crown seated. The crown was done so poorly. The shape should have 4 mounds, and was almost completely smooth. The height was also taller than my other teeth which messed up my bite. I mentioned that I didn't like the shape and it felt uncomfortable, so Dr Flath tried fixing the shape, which he then made worse, and shortened the side close to my gums. Then told me there was nothing he could do because the crown was too short now. I struggle going to the dentist so I found it hard to speak up and demand they replace the crown, especially because they kept dismissing me and saying "I had to deal with it". I went to my new dentist and they had said what an awful job was done. So I called Bravo Smile and told them I got a second opinion, that my dentist said the crown was cracking, causing inflammation, and had a void. Which shouldn't be happening in a year. Bravo Smile was not helpful in the slightest. I mostly spoke with Mary and she threatened me and hung up on me. So I was not able to get a refund and had to pay to get a new crown done in under 3 years. Anyway if you stayed to read my story, thank you, just wanted to give a warning of this place. Definitely do not recommend.
