They pruned our maples, which no other landscapers has done before, and made suggestions for beautifying our yard with the shrubs, plants, bushes and trees already there. I asked for a parking spot in the front of my lawn and what I got was a bunch of gravel on uneven ground that is functionally useless and looks cheap. What I understood was that he was going to dig it out and grade it, but he said that wasn't true. Had I known that was all he was going to do I would have never agreed to pay $1045 for a 7x32 gravelly, lumpy strip. Regardless, I was willing to pay for the work done, but when I pointed out that he lied about the price of materials, disposal fees, and hours worked, he still refused to adjust the price and threatened to take me to collections, so I paid him. He also refused to provide an itemized receipt. Also, he "conveniently" left out tax in the price of the estimate, so if you do decide to use him, make sure you add 10% to whatever price he quotes. Also, this thing he did, if he thought this was truly what I wanted (a non functional gravel strip) I would hope that a professional landscaper would advise me against it. Maybe say, "Hey, if you want to do it right you'll have to terrace this, grade this, etc. and that'll cost this." Instead, he found his mark (me) and found an easy payday. Afterwards I asked him, do you think this looks good? Does that look like a parking spot to you? Would you put your name on this? He pointedly did not answer those questions. AVOID- Has a suspended license and other recorded violations with L & I. We were about to use Vince for a landscaping project recently but opted to cancel after discovering he didn't have a valid license as is required through Washington Labor and Industries- despite him telling us he was licensed, bonded and insured. His business card also states the same. Glad we checked and read the reviews here before finding out the hard way. After seeing that awful fence project posted by another Yelper and how he bailed on those folks after accepting money to finish the job, we definitely made the right choice to get out. We had a positive experience with Nguyen Landscaping and Construction. The owner, Vince, was polite, helpful, and answered all of our questions patiently. We got four bids for resurfacing our driveway with concrete gravel. His pricing was very competitive. Vince was available much sooner than the other contractors, and completed the job, amazingly, in one day with just one worker assisting him. They cleared out all the grass and weeds, leveled the driveway, poured gravel and raked (and also added a drain!). It's such an improvement from the previous driveway. This material has held up well in the rain and is a good alternative for home owners on a budget. At the time of work, the company's license, insurance and bonding were all current. Vince did a great job. He handled things very professionally and the outcome is terrific. We planned a block retaining wall with backfill, leveling and a gravel patio. He was always on time, called in advance to confirm and finished as he said he would. I was on a tight timeline as I had other trades and finish landscape coming in after completion and he delivered. Longterm customer review: Mr. Nguyen has always been difficult to work with. He is extremely rude, disrespectful, dishonest, and he does not keep good business records. He stopped servicing my lawn without notification. He lied and said he sold his business to his cousin and gave me the cousins' number. The "cousin" didn't speak any english. Mr. Nguyen still charged me for the entire month when he did not perform any service and, this was after he said he no longer owned the company. Mr. Nguyen even argued with me over the charges and then acted as if he was doing me a favor by removing the fraudulent charges. I don't leave reviews very often but I'd love to write one for Vince, I'm very happy about his service. After reviewing the reviews on Yelp, I called Vince to install fence for my backyard. I phoned a few vendors and Vince gave me the most detailed explanation and his price is the second lowest. I almost hired the guy with the lowest price, but decided to let Vince come to my house to have a look before I make the decision. After a home visit, he gave me the same price as the one he provided in the phone, and explained about it. I'm happy about his knowledge, plus the reviews on Yelp, I decided to go ahead hire him. We signed contract, have everything we've discussed recorded in writing (which I appreciate), then because it started to rain, we didn't fix a certain date but agreed that whenever it's not raining, he will come to my house to do the job (we even had that in writing). After this, we had a few text exchanges when I was at Home Depot to buy materials. Then one day he called (about 2-3 days after signing the contract) and said the next few days will be sunny and is good to start the work. He showed up to my house early in the day, he finished the fence in one day, the fence is beautiful and I love it. Then I hired him to do 2 additional jobs: paint my house and my front door. Everything then happened in the same order: discuss the price and detail, have everything recorded in writing, and instructions on how to choose and buy paints. He spent about 4 days doing those jobs. Pressure washing, Caulking, Priming, and painting. Spent each step in a day. He usually arrives at around 8-9am, and then leaves at around 4m. He spent an exceptionally long time at my house during the day of the actual painting, I believe he left at around 6pm. The painting job was excellent. Been using the nguyen landscape for years. I just recently have my house repaint by them in August 2015. They did such a wonderful job. The color of the house was exactly what I have asked for. The finishing product was beautiful. I have asked them to finished my house in a week if it is possible because I have a party coming up next weekend. Hired on to fix a large chunk of our grass in the backyard, and rip out old grass to be replaced with concrete. He works very fast, and shows up early to finish early! Vince, his dad and uncle, built an awesome fence for us. The ground was not level, there were trees and stumps to navigate around. They removed brush and debris along the fence line. It was not an easy job. I wanted a solid fence to keep my dogs, and foster dogs in. The fence goes to the ground and he also put a green mesh at the bottom as a blocker. We needed a "spring clean-up" of the front of our house. Bushes trimmed, weeds pulled, fresh bark, etc. Due to the positive Yelp reviews I gave Nguyen Landscaping a call. I left a voicemail on a Friday, Vince called back the same day and scheduled to come out for an estimate the following Monday. He arrived as scheduled, provided an estimate, and we hired him to do the work. He and his crew came out within a few days and got everything looking great. I did pay an extra $100 to have vegetation killer spread under the bark to prevent weeds from popping up. I have already seen a few sprouting up, so that's something I will need to keep my eyes on, but otherwise the area looks great and this should tide us over until next spring. I noticed he lists "construction" as part of his business so after he was done with the yard I asked for an estimate for another little project I had been putting off for a while. Once of my dogs is getting up there in age and having a hard time jumping from the back yard onto the porch. I asked Vince if he could build a little ramp for him. He provided a fair estimate and came back over in a couple days to build the ramp. The ramp looks good, serves its purpose, and my dog started using it right away. We hired Vince to do our fencing project because of the excellent reviews on yelp and the pictures looked great. I agree with the other reviews that he was very responsive and prompt, however, I was very confused by the finished product. I told him I had found him on yelp and liked the look of the other fences he had done. Vince came out and gave a very competitive quote and we signed the contract. We agreed that both fences on the sides of the house needed to be replaced as they were rotted out. I'll admit we didn't talk too specifically about design because I just assumed he would do something similar to what was previously there (which was basic but uniform with a classic design) or something similar to what was shown in his yelp photos that I mentioned. What we got was a half-assed job that we could've done ourselves. The boards are all uneven, there's a weird hump on one end, and he only did half the gate that we agreed on and left the existing rotten side. I called him back out to hear my concerns and come up with a solution. He argued that my ground is uneven so that was why the fence is uneven on the top. This is Seattle, we have hills everywhere, but somehow people still have straight fencing. I suggested he add more wood on top to create a frame and make it look even, or cut the boards to even them out, or simply level the ground beneath. He said he would come back out and measure to give a quote for the additional wood for a frame and that he wouldn't charge for the labor since we "miscommunicated." Unfortunately, he seemed professional enough and was responsive enough that we paid him the money. He made a date to come back out and talk about the additions and we haven't seen him since. I feel bad because our neighbor was nice enough to split the cost with us and we ended up with this terrible job. I'm bummed because we had several other landscaping projects we wanted Vince to help us with including the other two sides of fencing and a complete redo of the front and backyard. He was aware of the upcoming jobs we had for him, but apparently he just wanted to literally throw something up and be done with us. read more

Seriously - listen to the negative reviews on these folks. Do not hire them. All work is NOT guaranteed, as they claim and I would leave zero stars if I could. I hired them to come out and lay a gravel path/pad and do some general landscape work. They key was that the path and pad needed to be level. They did less than half the landscaping work they committed to and nothing about the pad was level. I called and asked them to come back take a look, and redo the leveling of the pad (path was acceptable). He promised TWICE to come out and fix the work, and was a no show both times. I called again and it resulted in yelling and telling me to never call him again. I read the positive reviews and decided I'd make my own choice. In retrospect the negative reviews were SO bad (and numerous), I should have listened. I spent a lot of money and now need to go fix it all over again. Terrible experience. I'm really sorry to be leaving a bad review for this company but that is unfortunately what it has come to. I met with Vince (owner of Nguyen Landscaping) this summer to help with a problem we've been having with water coming in under our house and eroding some of the ground under our foundation. When we met I explained the problem and he was immediately confident that a french drain along the side of our house would solve the problem. I asked if he wanted to check under our house to make sure this was the proper solution but he was completely confident and I went along with that, deferring to his experience and knowledge. Vince was initially very good on communication, did what he said he was going to do for the price he quoted, & was a pleasant person to deal with. I genuinely liked him. The problem came as the rainy season arrived. As it turned out the french drain wasn't stopping the water from coming under our house at all. I called Vince and told him that water was still going under our house and it didn't seem like the french drain he installed was catching any of it. Vince did come to follow up on the work in December and when he went under the house with me quickly understood the situation and, unfortunately, let me know that the water was coming in below the french drain and that drain wasn't helping the situation. We now have a french drain that costed us $1,600 and does nothing. I later called Vince to see if we could place the drain deeper (it's presently only at one foot of depth) and perhaps make it useful and that's when the communication completely dropped off. For the past month I have called multiple times, texted, & e-mailed but he never responded. Again, I am very sorry to leave this bad review. I like Vince and I wish he would do the right thing and help me fix things. I followed his advice and now we have a french drain that doesn't help our situation. I would have liked to solve this problem with him but he has since vanished. read more

Think Twice!! I needed a bunch of work done in my yard to cleanup some blackberries and other bushes that had overgrown, fix a couple sections of my fence which had fallen down this winter, and remove two small/mid size trees. I had budgeted at least $3000 for all of the work that I needed done. I was reluctant to call here at first due to some of the negative reviews but decided to call because there were also a lot of good reviews. He was very responsive to my call and was out within 2 days to review the work and provide a quote. After walking through what I wanted done, the prices that he gave me seemed really high for each of the things that I needed done. He wanted twice as much for the tree removal that i had paid a tree removal specialist to remove 2 trees that were 3 times bigger. But it was my first quote so I waited to get more quotes to make sure I wasn't being unreasonable. After getting additional quotes (confirming that his was way too high) and looking back on my experience with him, it seemed like he just didn't want to do the work so just gave me a really high quote. He was carrying a clipboard with him but did not write anything down. When I asked him to write it down for me so I wouldn't forget, he told me he would text me the quote. Two weeks later and i still haven't heard from him. Needless to say I wouldn't recommend this company. I understand it probably wasn't the most desirable work but he could have been honest with me if he didn't want the work instead of wasting my time and lying to me by telling me he would give me a quote. Had he been honest I would likely even given a good review for being honest with me and not wasting my time. Therefore I am giving my business to someone who actually wants it and recommend everyone else to strongly consider the other negative reviews when making your decision and taking your business elsewhere. read more

I would leave no stars, if I could. I made an appointment for Vince to come out and give an estimate on a home, for 10 AM sharp because I had a meeting at 11 AM. We confirmed on time and location the day prior. At 10:15 AM on the day of, he calls, already yelling mind you, to say he needs to reschedule me for later. At this point I am a little annoyed but still want him to go and give the estimate, so I ask what is the soonest he could arrive. I wouldn't recommend Vince for construction. Maybe he's good with landscaping but he did a horrible job putting up a 15 ft. fence and gate. The contract specified cedar panels & pre-treated posts for $880. At the time, I had no idea how overpriced that was. Vince seemed really sincere & was very responsive but I feel totally jacked. Friends who saw the fence said the panels weren't cedar & only 2 posts were pre-treated & were appalled at the cost. I called Vince & he refused to give me a partial refund (I asked for $400 back). Instead, I gave him a second chance, & he removed the fence & replaced it with cedar planks. He did the work quickly & carelessly, leaving planks split by his nail gun, & the gate is crooked & doesn't latch. When I pointed out the split planks he said that's normal. Really?
