Our driveway and a 5-foot tall retaining wall between our driveway and front yard were severely damaged and on the verge of collapse. We hired A-1 Stone to remove the concrete driveway and retaining wall, and then to rebuild the driveway with pavers and the retaining wall with concrete blocks. Additionally, proper drainage was installed behind the retaining wall. The work was performed by the company's owner, Paul Singh, along with two of his employees. Remarkably, A-1 Stone completed all the work in just three days, and the results are excellent. Everything looks great, and Paul and his team were a pleasure to work with. I would definitely consider contracting them again. I do have two (minor) recommendations for A-1 Stone to improve: Website Improvement: The company's website is somewhat lacking. It's difficult to see examples of their work or to assess their experience with specific types of projects. A portfolio showcasing past work would be very beneficial. Product Variety: The selection of colors and products they offered was rather limited. Other companies provided brochures featuring a range of stone colors and types, while A-1 Stone only offered a single option for our retaining wall: grey concrete blocks. Overall, it was a relief to work with A-1 Stone. They completed the job efficiently with great results, and there were no hassles or problems. Furthermore, both Paul and his employees spoke English, which made communication much easier, especially since many contractors employ workers who only speak Spanish or Portuguese. read more

We are so fortunate to have worked with Paul and his crew. We had him out to assess a failing retaining wall and they were able to begin and complete the process within the estimated time frame. Throughout the process he and his crew were very professional and respectful. We felt like they treated our project as if it was for their own property. One of our gates had to be removed for access and they were able to rebuild it as good as new. Some of the yard was a bit torn up as a result of the machinery but Paul offered to add top soil and even spread the grass seed and peat moss I had on hand! We had neighbors walk by and compliment on how great it looked while they were still completing it. Paul and his team installed an irrigation system, extended my paver patio, replaced my lawn, staked some shrubs that were leaning, and fixed my fence. Overall I was really pleased with their work and Paul's responsiveness. Paul was able to give me recommendations for what would look best, and I appreciated his candid opinions. They showed up on time, were attentive to my requests, and after they finished Paul was responsive to follow up questions and helped address some small things. Guess they must be doing so well with their business they don't want to take on a large retaining wall project. 3.5/5 Paul installed a fence, paver stone wall, sod turf, concrete patio, and drainage pipes for us. It can be a bit hard to communicate with Paul on the phone, but both his crew and himself were pleasant to work with. I was very happy with the quality of the work on the rock wall and would recommend for that sort of project. The fence, concrete patio and drainage pipes was also very solid. The sod looked great when it went in, but despite my best efforts to keep it alive most of it died within a few years and is now overrun with moss. Some of this is probably standard difficulty with having grass in the Northwest. The main downside was that after one year every single gate is very hard to open because they have swollen shut. My main complaint was that we agreed and were quoted to install a french drain, but due to confusion (about what a french drain is) he installed a downspout runoff drainage system. At the time I didn't realize it was impossible for him to instal a french drain for the amount he was quoting. The system he install was solid, but not what I thought we were getting. read more

Paul and his crew are true professionals. I believe that we were given the best price for the work he did and he was 100% willing to go above and beyond. He hauled away extra trash we had and took out extra bushes in our backyard. He completely rebuilt our deck and it only took about 5 days to complete! The deck was beyond our expectations and he even came out a couple of times to check on us and answer any follow-up questions. If you have any landscaping work that you need done, you should give Paul a call. He will come out quickly and give you an estimate. My backyard was apparently built on a junk yard and sinking/sloping. Paul had the vision to create two levels by installing a u-shaped retaining wall with stairs that lead down to a brick paved 2nd level. I chose a dark gray brick and it's gorgeous. The top level is sod. On the 2nd level they also built a fire pit which everyone loves. A concern for me with the yard being built up near the fence, was that my dogs would then be able to jump over. Paul suggested a dog run with pea gravel all around the built up retaining wall. Genius solution and my pointers love it. I feel it was a big project but his team completed it all in two weeks. He also removed a big tree in the front yard I was allergic to. It was a very collaborative process and he communicated to me every step of the way what he was doing and the timing of everything. Paul and his team did an excellent job helping us with some back and front yard landscaping projects and we couldn't be happier with the end result. In addition to replacing and extending a rotted cedar deck, they replaced our fences, build a stone and paver patio in our front and back yards, and built a small retention wall to help with the sloping that we have around the deck and patio. The bid we received from Paul was very fair and the work performed was really exceptional. They transformed an inaccessible, shady backyard into our new favorite place to hang out.
