2 months from my water heaters 13th birthday , I got in the shower early in the morning to only find that my water heater was not igniting. In a desperate panic I started making phone calls to Sears and NH Ross . NH Ross said that they would be there in a few hours , which they were. The Tech. was very nice and pleasant and gave me a paper with prices . I decided to have them put a new water heater in immediately . So what seemed to be an approx. $600 retail water heater, ended up costing me $2600.!! I have never felt so gouged and excessively over charged in my life on anything . What was probably a $1800 job , cost me a lot more ! When I questioned the Tech , he said , "well you probably could have gotten it CHEAPER THROUGH A SMALLER PLUMBING OUTFIT , rather than us, because we are larger " . I've attempted to use Ross three times. I have been successful once. So for me they are certainly on the back burner of service providers. This means I would not call them unless they were the only possibility to get some emergency work done. On my rating scale this is one step above being "dead to me". The work they do seems good enough. On the first call they put in a new gas line for my grill freeing me from the dreaded Propane exchange hassle. Their estimate for the work was 30% less than Ray the Plumber and they could make the required timeline. Sold. I was a little miffed when I asked the technician who was at the house how long it would take, to see if I had time to run an errand. Unfortunately he was done in half the time so I was mid errand and had to rush back to the house. I thought my second call to them would be a no-brainer. So easy I thought it would be, that I just told my wife to call them while I was away and have them do two tasks that had gone undone for too long. Install a new kitchen faucet. We had the faucet for over a year and I hadn't found time to do the install. And replace a sink tailpiece that years of vibration had finally cracked. Well when they arrived and told my wife the cost of those two tasks (over $700) she called me immediately. After going back and forth with the technician trying to figure out how they thought a few hours labor and a $20 in parts were worth that much, we sent him on his way. Only after paying the "Consultation fee". The third attempt was sicx months later due to a failed water heater. Again they showed up and made sure we signed to acknowledge that the "consultation fee" was due the moment the estimator walked in the house. We agreed and without actually examining the water heater told us we needed a new once since it was 15 years old. When I asked him what diagnosis have you done that establishes that we need a new one versus needing a minor repair. He advised me that the consultation fee did not cover diagnosis and that was not his job. Then to top it off he offered to install anyone of three brands of water heaters they carry (depending what was in stock) for a mere 3X the price the water heater was being offered at from Home Depot and Lowe's. Let me make this clear. Their offer was to sell and install a water heater that I could buy myself for about $600 for a total of $1800. Additionally they offered to install a water heater drain pan (under $25 at Home depot) for $415 dollars. I think the word you are looking for is Chutzpah. After attempting to negotiate the price, and the rep countering with a $90 discount (of which 75 was based on an on-line coupon). I paid the consultation fee once again and sent him on his way. Soooo, some future disaster notwithstanding my path and N.H. Ross will not cross again. read more

I've used them in the past and their work was good. I called them for minor plumbing work and the estimator showed up 2 hours late. I gave him a deposit then found out that his estimate was over inflated. Called the office next morning to cancel job and get my deposit back. I had to make several phone calls to their office and file a dispute with my credit card company. Apparently someone else in my area had a dispute with them also because I got copies of the other person's paperwork complete with their Amex card number. They incompetenly sent the other person's info instead of mine! It finally took them 2 months to issue a credit - excluding their heinous trip fee of $85.81 which should not have been charged in the first place since the guy was late and they took forever to give me my deposit back. I tried to speak to them about getting the trip fee back and they were unreceptive in providing satifactory customer service. I would not recommend this company!!! They deserve 0 stars read more

Needed an emergency sewer line cleaning -- said he couldn't give an estimate before coming,to my house. When I asked for price for a cleaning and then if there is another problem, he could tell me, he quoted : $500 to $600!", I called another Suffolk county plumbing/rooter company, their guy quoted, "$350" and he came and did there job for that ($350) amount. Call for a fair price from another company, this one will obviously try to rip you off. BTW, the daytime, regular hours price from the other company is $250 for a sewer line cleaning. read more

I just had a horrible experience with N. H. Ross. I contacted them for an estimate to extend the gas line to my fireplace. Two different people called me back--one said they could do the estimate the following week, while the other said I was outside their service area (I live in Lynbrook). I called back and was assured they could do the estimate, so I scheduled the estimate for Friday (tomorrow). So they showed up today (Thursday). I wasn't home. When I found out they had shown up today, I said that they were supposed to come tomorrow (Friday). I was told that someone had come out to my house today and determined that I was in fact too far out of their service area, so they were canceling my appointment for tomorrow! You can't make this stuff up. They are totally disorganized. I wouldn't trust them to chew gum properly. read more

Upsetting experience with this company! After the 1st service the tech left a large part on the grass which burned a big patch and he also spilled rusty water on the white brick work . So a week later They came to remove it and got 90% off after I supplied a strong cleaner ( mineral spirits ). But another week later the boiler leaked water all over our basement due to a faulty seal installed by the tech with the circulator part ( $900!) . So now I have no working boiler and temps were going down to below freezing . They explained they do not work weekends !! Oh my gosh do your homework - so they knew I was calling another emergency company To get heat ASAP before temps dropped ! The emergency company came and charged a svc fee $95 but told me to get them back in because it was in fact their (NH ROSS ) error & this emergency company didn't want to charge me more ....so NH Ross was able to get a less certified tech on a Saturday who was able to fix the seal thank god but would not reimburse me the $95 svc fee from the other (emergency) company . They felt the emergency company shouldn't have charged me for the svc call .... So Customer loses , and I was a new customer! u would think they would want me 100% satisfied but I was 100% unsatisfied w this company , NH Ross never again read more

Run away from this plumber! We have a service contract with them, and they were out last week of fix a leak under my kitchen sink. $361 later I still have a leak under my sink. They were supposed to be back out Friday, didn't show. They came out yesterday and wanted an additional $267 to fix the leak I had already paid to fix! Our kitchen is only 3 years old, so this isn't a different leak. And on top of that, over the weekend we smelled Gas in our home. A call to National Grid, they were there in under an hour, and found that the gas line to the hot water heater NH Ross installed last fall was leaking gas. Fortunately National Grid fixed it (tightened the coupling) at no charge. read more

Jay N was dispatched from NH Ross to handle a burst pipe that I had in my kitchen. The pipe was behind walls, which were behind my sink, cabinet, dishwasher, and on top of my laundry room. Jay N came up with a solution that bypassed all the obstacles that I listed and provided a better solution. The job was neat and professional. We had a new gas boiler installed and it had a small leak in 1 of the fittings just off the boiler. The installer said it would go away when it heated up(which it did) so we forgot about it. He failed to mention it would return when it cooled down and now we have a minor leak and all the piping is rusting in that area. N H Ross would not cover it under their "2 year warranty". read more

Well I was ripped off. Called to get freeon put into my system and was told that I had a leak and to not put freeon in until the leak was fixed. Well that was all nonsense because They didn't bother to tell me how to go about getting the leak on my 7 year old system fixed .instead their main focus was to make sure they got a sales person to me to try and get me to buy a brand new system - because leaks are "so expensive to find and to fix" (so why would I fix my leak when I can just pull an extra $7000.00 out my a$$ and get a brand new system?) of course I refused the new system but I did pay my $88.00 fee that it cost for them to come diagnose the problem (and that is supposed to come of your bill after you work is done) so clearly I wanted the issue resolved(yes,the leak) well it cost $600 just to look for a leak and then You pay to fix it which can get expensive no problem. I called and called and called to make and appointment andddd no one was returning my call...I thought , hmm how strange (because when it was time to schedule that sales person they were hounding me with back to back calls and emails) anyway, no problem, I figured- I'll jus call and harass the manager then. finally I got an appointment(after over a week) (oh yes and after that appointment was finally made they cancelled my appointment at the last minute when my husband had already taken the day off from work) I paid $600.00 for a leak test and then was told, "congrats you have no leak :-) ". So now we Will charge you 600 for this leak test and 500 to put in that freeon that you originally called us to put in the first place, but at least you have no leak to fix .... I'm not certain why I would be happy about that considering the fact that I originally called simply to put freeon into my system and you were trying to get me to spend $7000.00 on a new system (confused ) - Not cool nh Ross , NOT COOL- But we just had a baby sooooo thanks for having us just hand over money that we really just didn't have laying around to throw right into your bank account because you decided to be greedy!!! This is what incredible customer service and amazing job performance gets you!!. My issue was leak in a pipe in my slab. I called them up and right from the start the experience was great with customer service rep. I spoke with. We could not get anyone that same day but next day worked out better for us. Corey made the first service call and was just a true professional and extremely friendly. He spoke to the wife being I was at work and we decided to facetime and basically have video conference to discuss the matter. Corey provided us 3 estimates but the more sensible one to have done was the the pricey one but it made all the sense in the world to go that route. Day of job one Jimmy and Corey show up and they found an alternative method to correct the issue and less drilling and breaking up material. I was so happy with their recommendation and they went to work. It took 2 days like they stated and there were minor hiccups but nothing that was not fixable. They took apart my vanity, medicine cabinet, toilet and even needed to cut through some wainscotting. When done I could not even tell they were there..AMAZED. There will be some touch up that needs to be done but nothing like what I thought. Cleaned up nicely and really made all efforts to make the process smooth. My issue was a broken pipe in the slab coming from the water heater. They diverted the lines to the second floor down to the first through to one of my bathroom directly. When the cosmetic stuff is done , no one will be ever to tell. It's great to see that companies still take pride in their work and understand that their company depends on amazing service. Jimmy and Corey I cannot say enough about them and what ROCKSTARS they are. If you want a job done right it may cost you but in the end you want the peace of mind that you had someone in their doing the job right!!! We were very pleased to have two top notch technicians install our new tankless hot water heater. Tom M. was extremely knowledgeable, personable and professional. He answered all of our questions and solved some difficult problems. This was not an easy installation, but Rich and Tom worked well together to get the job done efficiently an in a timely manner. It was a complete overhaul of the hot water heating system. From an existing water holding tank to an on demand tankless Bosch water heater. This required remodeling the existing plumbing and electric work and adding new plumbing and air vent features. But after finding NH Ross, I felt the need to write a review to tell everyone on the Yelp what a great company they are. I wanted to share my experience with anyone looking for those type of jobs. We bought an old house (original part built on 1770) a little less than a year ago. We had numerous problems since we moved in. We had two different plumbers before we found NH Ross to fix a leaky pipe under the kitchen sink (refused to tell me how much it will cost and told me to wait until I get a bill!) and heavily clogged drain pipe in the master bathroom and broken shower in the another bathroom (messy! messy!!). We also contacted four different HVAC companies to get an estimate on central AC system installation (NH is not included on those 4). Only one came to give us a quote which was so ridiculously high and the owner of the company who came to give us an estimate was so grumpy, almost angry to the point, won't let us speak and told us what we need. PERIOD! We also needed electricians to change almost all our lighting fixtures, installing more outlets throughout the house, re-wiring and update circuit panel breakers and possible oil/gas conversion. Most importantly we had a violation hazard of outdoor light switch being too close to the propane tank issue which had to be taken care of immediately since the other electrician we found never came back to do the job. No need to mention how dreadful to find a right people to do the job in a right way or have any type of worker coming to your house. Some doesn't show up, never call you back, or don't do the job they promised they will and the list can go on and on. Thus when I finally found NH Ross, I was skeptical to try yet another company. Wow, was I wrong! I requested an appointment online late at night and right next day, they called and sent email for appointment confirmation on the following day. On the day of the appointment, customer service called and confirmed the appointment. They also sent email (which I found it later) to let me know who is coming with the picture and a little background, little later they called again to let me know he is on his way. Now one of their sales rep. Mr. DiDaniele came to our house right on time and put his bootie before entering our house. He is not only a sales rep but he has more than 26 years of experience in the field so he KNOWS his stuff. He was so patient to listen to all our needs in detail and recommended what is right for us. He called Nat'l Grid right in front of me for a possible oil/gas conversion. I appreciate how he respect our old house character and trying figure out the best possible way to update the system. He arranged a technician to come right away to take care of violation so that the gas company will fill the tank. On next day, the technician John came. His work is exceptionally neat and it looks great. He spent almost 2 hours meticulously extending wiring, covered them and relocate the outdoor switch. Yet another following day, Mr. DiDaniele and the owner of NH Ross came for more consultation. It was such a pleasure to meet both of them. Already having a bad experience with another company, I was little worried. They took almost two hours to go through every detail of the house and assess our house!! The owner, Neal is so friendly and has such a respect to the home owner regardless of whether you live in a mansion or humble home. He wasn't annoyed with my damn probably kind of obvious questions and explained to me very patiently. Everything they advertise on their homepage is really true. Rapid, On-time, trustworthy, honest, friendly, perfect workmanship, well-presented professionals, clean & tidy and most importantly up-front pricing. They will do exactly what they promised to do and you can totally relax and sit back knowing NH Ross is the one doing the job for your home. They are not mediocre cheap electrician you will hire and having them keep coming back because they didn't do it right. They might not cheap but you get what you pay for. BEWARE of these guys, they are thieves. First let me say that I am not one who generally complains and accept the fact that companies need to make a profit. NH Ross if fact installed my oil to gas conversion a couple of years ago at a cost of around $7,000, a price that I researched and was pretty fair. My problem with them occurred this week for a simple service call- I had to keep resetting the controller. Not having time to research service companies and having dealt with Ross on my conversion, I decided to have them do the service. First of all they charge you $79 if you choose not to have them do the service so you are immediately into them for the $79- not a good way of doing business, in my opinion. Secondly, they charge you per job and not per hour, which you can view as either a positive if they actually do work that approximates the charge, or a negative. In my case it was definitely a negative, here's why- The service guy said that it would cost $369 for the service. Not realizing exactly what was involved in making things work we told him to go ahead. Well the "service" basically involved cleaning the pilot assembly, no parts. It took him less than 1/2 hour for the service. So basically, he was on track to make almost $800/hr., an hourly rate that I would perhaps expect to pay a high priced Midtown attorney. After paying the guy and hearing from my wife what the service guy actually did and how long it took, I decided to call the Company's management to try to get some type of break on the cost as I thought that surely the charge must have been a mistake given what was actually done. Well I spoke with Rob, and he let me know that this is in fact what they charge for this service and was unwilling to compromise in any way. Needless to say I won't be using them for anything going forward. Let my misfortune be a learning tool. Do your research if you have a chance, and certainly stay away from these guys if you are able. read more

NH ROSS, Inc, did a GREAT job when servicing my boiler. My rep was Joe Voss, and he was fantastic! He returned every phone call, and we even emailed eachother too! He was on top of things, and I felt very secure. This was such a great experience because I had a lot of other companies just try to "sell" me on their product, but didnt bother explaining things in detail, and didnt seem to care about what me and my family needed. We even had another company suggest us to do something with our boiler that in reality could of caused carbon monoxide to go INTO my home! I was so lucky to have found NH ROSS, inc, and Joe Voss because they were able to help me from hurting me, my family and my two babies. I called them to come down and check my air conditioner as it seem like it was not really Feeling like it was cooling the house. Called and received answering service. Finally called me back and said they would come down but had other calls ahead of me. Understanding that they would be coming about 9 o'clock PM. Waited and then get a call won't be coming, ask how about tomorrow, we don't' work on Sunday, so I called on Sunday and the answering service said they do work on Sunday, And would have someone who was on would call me. Sure enough the same person calls Me back "SHAWN" that was his name who said we don't work on Sundays. WOW!!!!!! What a liar....... So I said when he called I though you don't work on SUNDAY, he said We would have to wait until Monday and to call the office as that's what his supervision Said WOW !!!!!!!! I am so glad I had a contract, which I cancelled on Monday morning And called a local person who came right down in 1 hour He was great........ HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE company to deal with and very expensive. DO NOT use them. Once your unit is installed and they have your money they don't care about you at all. Had a problem right after hvac unit was installed. They NEVER returned my calls (at least 15-20), when I actually got to talk to someone[Bonnie] they would continually put me off, saying they are "looking into it, and they will get back to me to let me know when they will send someone". So the owner called once and didn't connect with us and despite 3 return calls from us never did speak with myself or my husband. Needed a subsequent visit for a humidifier not working. First thing the technician told me was that the water wasn't turned on. Really? Gee a technician had been to our home less than 3 months previous, put in a new pad and didn't turn on the water? But of course that wasn't the real problem--we had 3 options to fix the broken humidistat starting at $300 and going to $700. NH Ross used to fix problems for a very, if any, minimal cost. Now every problem has a pretty hefty repair price tag attached. We called another repair technician and for $125 fixed our burner problem. $1375 saved!! Reminds me when we had a flood in our HVAC room and the diagnosis was a leak in the exhaust-condensate pipe that Ross put in when they installed our burner. $683 to repair. For some reason another technician had to come out and found the problem was a clogged drain line. Repair cost $0. Does anyone see a pattern here? Have cancelled our contract with NH Ross and just waiting for a refund. read more

NH Ross is at best unresponsive/disorganized and possibly dishonest. In October 2016 I hired them to replace a control board for my Aprilaire whole home de-humidifier that was under warranty. NH Ross quoted $738 for parts and labor and said that they would reimburse me the cost of the part once the job was complete and the warranty claim was processed. Aprilaire told me that they sell the part for $130-150 so I should expect that much or more (depending on the mark-up). The installation took 35 minutes. I followed up every 3-4 weeks for two months. They first told me that the part wasn't under warranty (proved wrong). Then they told me that it was too late to file the claim (proved wrong). Then they emailed me that Aprilaire sent NH Ross the part for free and therefore 100% of the $738 was attributed to labor. After I filed a dispute with American Express NH Ross called to resolve the disagreement in my favor. read more

I called these guys because my normal plumber was on vacation. The pilot light in my water heater would not stay lit. They came by, put in a new thermal coupler and charged $483. Fine. But since then the pilot light has gone out on 2 occasions. So I called them and asked them to come back and check to ensure the thermal coupler was installed correctly because the hot water tank manual says if something (associated with the thermal coupler) isn't close enough to the igniter the pilot light could go out. They came by, spent 5 mins and determined the thermal coupler was in fact installed correctly. "Maybe there's a problem with your chimney, not sure, but it's not the thermal coupler". Next thing I know they're charging me $183 for a "consultation fee". Seriously? I called you back to check your work, you did absolutely nothing, spent 5 mins and want $183??? I paid their extortion fee, grudgingly, but needless to say I will NEVER call NH Ross again, and would strongly suggest neither do you. read more

For the last ten years that I owned my unit at Willow Ponds on the Sound in Riverhead, NY, I took out their "Gold" service contract for over $400.00. They thrive on you taking out their service contracts. I only had the opportunity to use them once for a simple appliance repair. Everything I thought was covered under their contract was not. A central air conditioner repair for a new breather element and freon for $900.00 required the installation of a new unit at the cost of $5,000 according to NH Ross. Just now, I was quoted a price of $350.00 to clean a dryer vent when a cleaning company charges half or $175.00. I expected to pay something, but not what they gouge their loyal customers. Their service techs are nice and may actually know what they are doing, but their management, policies and ethics are deplorable. You can do much better by googling a needed service and company by reading their reviews. I did and pleased by what I found. read more

On the evening of June 1st, 2013, my tenant called about a clogged drain under the kitchen sink, I called N H Ross. A plumber arrived at 11:22 pm and used an 18 ft snake to try to clear the clog. He was unsuccessful. The tip of the snake came out perfectly clean. He then proceeded to say that he was going to call his boss to try to get the companies 30 ft snake. Mr. Ross (the boss?) never answered. The plumber then said that he would have to return the following day with the 30 ft. Snake. However, in the meantime he would try using a plunger to open up the drain a bit. When he plunged he opened up the drain, however the plumber said the drain still should be snaked because he didn't know how far down the line the clog was pushed. He was going to recommend to Mr. Ross that they come back with the 30 ft. Snake. I was asked to remit a check in the amount of $400.00, with the promise that Mr. Ross would send someone with the 30 ft. Snake. I told the plumber that I would post date the check for June 5th,2013, to make sure that someone would return with the 30ft snake. I was assured that I would hear from the company the following day. No one called or showed up on Monday!!! I called N H Ross on Tuesday, where they proceeded to play Cat and Mouse with my tenant and I. First saying the plumber was on the way, he never showed. Two hours later we called N H Ross back to find out what happened to the plumber, we were told he stopped for lunch, and would be at the house within a half hour. When he didn't show, I called Ross back. They claimed the plumber was in from of the house and no one was home. I immediately called my tenant who said he was sitting on the front porch for the past hour and no plumber ever showed up. I recalled Ross and they said they would send the plumber (who never showed ) back,!! I asked Ross to call my tenant and make an appointment for the following morning (Wednesday) since my tenant starts work at 5 pm. Ross never called my tenant or myself to reschedule the snaking of the drain. I called Ross Wednesday afternoon to say I was going to put a stop payment on the check if they didn't come back with the 30 ft snake. I was supposed to hear from Mr.Ross that afternoon, but never did. Therefore, I stopped payment on the check. $400.00 is outrageous for just a plunger. In the meantime Ross has threatened me with a Mechanics Lien on my house, and threatened to advise all my credit agencies of my stopped check. I am just requesting Ross to be fair and send someone with the 30 ft snake to make sure the line is really clear, then I will reissue the check in the amount of $400.00. No one in their right mind would pay $400.00 for a plunger service. I have called Ross today and relayed the above message. The woman on the phone was very cordial and said she would speak to Mr. Ross, and that I would hear from them tomorrow. Should I start taking bets.? DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I paid a trip charge to have them find nothing only to have to call them back 3 weeks later I am out of the state , my family is watching my home and found my whole home filled with gas. At this point it became an emergency and I had to have National Grid come and do an emergency turn off. It is mid January and we NEED heat so i was forced to work with this company even though I was not comfortable with their customer service. A DECISION I REGRET. They wouldnt even talk about talking off a trip charge, even though i explined it was thier technician that didn't detect the problem was I originally called for. I was charged over $800 for a part because i was told it was "expensive". We unformtbatly paid them becuase without this part we would not have heat but after doing some research the most i see the part going for is $100 on the internet. I called the company back to ask for am itemize bill whoc they denied. SO apparently their labor was 7times the labor? This is unacceptable. My husband will continue to speak with the company and attempt to speak to the owner. We are aslo working with our credit card company to dispute these charges. read more
