Our guide Tim picked us up at the Fallsview Casino, which was convenient for us, before we picked up one more group of 2. The small group of us (4 plus Tim) was just the right size. Tim was very knowedgeable both about wine and the Niagra region. He took the time to get to know each of us and what tastes were like in wine. We stopped at 4 wineries (all were equally delicious, although I'd have to say my favorite was the red Ice Wine from Vineland) and each time Tim brought us inside, introduced us to the staff, and helped offer suggestions based on what he had learned about us. We also learned the proper way to taste at our very first stop. This was a welcome change from other tours we have done in the past where the tour bus simply stops in the parking lot while you go inside, sample, then come out when you are ready to leave. This was much more personable and made for an excellent tour experience. In addition to the 4 wineries we stopped at the Upper Canada Cheese company to sample their fine cheeses, as well as stopped mid-day in Jordan Village for lunch. The tour was well structured and you had plenty of time to shop after each tasting as well if you wanted to (although none of the wineries/staff were pushy in any way whatsoever.) Overall it was a great day, great experience, and I would certainly consider other future tours with Discovery.

I was part of a group of 38 who went on a 3 day chartered Landmark bus trip from Rochester NY to…read moreNYC to attend the UP Open Tennis tournament on 9/4-9/6/15 Landmark provided two drivers (one in training) on the trip down and one on the return. While the drivers were pleasant, they appeared very inexperienced and unfamiliar with NYC streets and the routes to and from the tennis center in Flushings Meadows. They also had difficulty driving within the lanes and avoiding curbs in the tunnels. The trip is normally 7 hrs and we quickly learned that the air conditioning was not working on this hot and humid weekend. When the first person went to use the toilet, they also learned the light inside the small compartment did not work. The drivers acted surprised. We also learned that the drivers were unfamiliar with NYC streets and the hotel location. They had no written directions and attempted to use a GPS, but it was for passenger, not commercial vehicles and didn't provide any guidance on restricted NYC roads and low bridges. This was especially problematic on the trips to/from the hotel and the tennis center on Friday and Saturday. The driver eventually asked passengers to navigate for him, which they did for two days. But the driver could not find his way in, out of the tennis center or where to park the bus. In summary, I would never go on another trip that used Landmark buses and drivers. The trips took longer than necessary do to the lack of experience with the area. I have no confidence in who they hire, what experience they require, who they assign to drive on trips, no pre-trip checks of their vehicles and the apparent lack of any training and support to drivers. For example, the driver said he had to travel an hour away to NJ to park the bus overnight on Friday & Saturday. He was unaware of where to park in NYC. This was truly an unbelievable experience that other people should avoid.

Anyway, Jim, the tour salesguy assured us that the tours would cost more when we got to our hotel. As we were staying at the Marriott Fallsview (which is is not cheap) we had already said we would try and cut down on other "luxuries". Jim was right, the hotel tours were more expensive. We paid $84.97 total pp for a 4 hour tour which included Maid of the Mist, Journey Behind the Falls, and a few other stops. Nick, our tour guide picked us up on time and he was wonderful. Lots of jokes-- some were funny, the ones that weren't were still funny b/c they were cheesy. Overall, a great and informative guy--even told us where to get good, cheap food. Now, why is it cheaper than the other tours? While everyone else is riding around in the comfort of a climate controlled bus or one of those modern mini-bus/vans, we were shoveled into a white (off white due to age) 14 passenger dodge van. Yes, the regular old style dodge van. No climate control -- it was either too hot or when we opened the window to get air, the draft was killing me. I didn't say anything about the draft b/c I had already asked for the window to be opened. Stepping in and out of the van you could see massive rust. Seats were not comfortable b/c remember, you're in an old van. The saving grace of this tour was the great and informative tour guide, who also doubles as the driver, Nick, and the cost.

From start to finish, this was an extremely professional and well-organized experience. The tour guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and kept everything moving smoothly throughout the day. One of the best parts is how convenient the pickup system is -- they have pickup locations near all the major hotels in Toronto, which makes the whole process incredibly easy for travelers. There are several add-on options for the tour, and I highly recommend three of them: 1. The boat ride into the falls 2. Journey Behind the Falls 3. The helicopter ride The helicopter ride especially is one of those "you only live once" experiences. If it's outside your budget, though, the boat ride and Behind the Falls are still more than enough to make for an amazing full day. One thing I'd personally skip is the tower stop. The views are fine, but honestly the tower in Toronto is much better. Now for the one major warning: the cancellation and rescheduling policy is brutal. Even if your flight is delayed or canceled and you provide proof, you are still out the full amount. No refund, no reschedule, no flexibility. We learned this the hard way after our flight got badly delayed. I contacted them hoping to move our booking to the next day and basically got told, "good luck and goodbye." That said... the story has a happy ending. We ended up sprinting through the airport, grabbing a taxi directly from the terminal to the pickup location, and arrived at 8:03 for an 8:00 AM pickup. I had been communicating with them during the chaos and they agreed to hold the bus for five minutes. We used three of those five minutes like it was the final scene of an action movie... but we made it. In the end, I absolutely recommend this tour. Just book carefully, maybe avoid scheduling it immediately after your arrival flight, or get travel insurance for peace of mind. If you plan ahead, you're going to have an incredible time with a professional, organized tour company at Niagara Falls.

We were led thru the busy streets of Time SQUARE and Broadway. We had wonderful seats for the Rocketts show, an off Broadway Play and the NYC Ballet performing the Nutcracker. We had reservations for meals at very nice restaurants, with delicious food options! Lots of optional excursions, and lots of free time too. Hotel was very comfortable and talk about LOCATION! We were able walk a short distance to all the places mentioned! Oh, did I mention Bryant Park ice skating ring, and Christmas Village Artisans Market? It was wonderful. The bus was comfortable, and driver Steve was very entertaining. My heartfelt Thank You, for taking care of us and showing us such a fun time! We met lots of fun people, many who were repeat customers! And we will plan to join then , hopefully very soon.

We chose to ride the full route without getting off so we could see everything and could decide later if we wanted to come back to a stop. The bus was pretty empty and for quicker attractions like the floral clock and whirlpool the driver got off with us so we could snap a few closer pictures. These were the sort that were nice to take pics, but you wouldn't want to stop for a full hour stop for like you would for the boat ride or other stops offered. Even though my parents had been to Canada before they agreed that they saw more than going on their own since you don't need to navigate or google good tourist spots. The full route took about an hour and a half. They provided history of the area, gave pointers on what was around, and kept us entertained. If you choose to get off at a stop they come back to pick you up about an hour later. The driver said he also does wine tours on the weekends.

The reservation for this tour was easy and Sheila, at Double Deck Tours, was honest when she told me I would have no difficulty getting tickets for myself and my husband when we checked into the DoubleTree by Hilton in Niagara Falls, Canada. At the DoubleTree we spoke with their representative, Jesus, who explained the tour, where we would visit the next day, and we bought the tour. The bus showed up on time. We were the first stop for the bus and we garnered seats on the top in the front row. As the bus wasn't at full capacity, we were able to each have a separate seat. We visited behind Horseshoe Falls and tunnels after a short trip past the dam. Nadine gave us a lot of information about both the hydroelectric plant and the area in general with some amazing stats on how much water flows over the falls each minute...Oh My!!! Next we viewed a river whirlpool by crossing over on the Whirlpool Aerocar. What a treat for me as I've white water rafted and looking at those class 6 (maybe 7 if there was such a thing) scared me. I was glad I was way up high and if you look at my pictures you might feel the same!!! We visited the Flower Clock next after driving past the Niagara Parks Conservatory. Wish we'd had time to visit the Butterfly Conservatory. After a driving tour to see other sights pointed out we landed at the Hornblower Boat Tours. So glad to skip the lines and move to the front. It was a hot day and we were sweating as it was. The ride on the Hornblower was FAB! Used to be "Maid in the Mist", but they lost the bid to the Canadian concession "Hornblower." Now as to why I gave this group only three stars as I did have a stellar day. When I called Sheila at Double Deck, before I arrived, I was told I might like to book at the hotel as the walk back to the DoubleTree by Hilton was a six block walk up a steep hill and Niagara was experiencing a heat advisory. It was twenty extra US dollars per person, but well worth it considering a long day with lots of sight seeing, so being taken back to my hotel was a plus. However, more than three times during the day Nadine, our tour guide, expressed how many people liked to just stay at Victoria Park after the tour and not be returned to the DoubleTree. Saying it once was fabulous. Given the option was a wonderful thing. But for me the repeated statement gave me the opinion that they really didn't want to make the ten minute drive back to the DoubleTree. As it was, three couples returned. Niagara Falls was under a heat advisory! To top off the bad taste of these comments, we were told to return to the Welcome Center by 3pm to meet the bus. We got off the Hornblower at 2:50 pm. I felt very rushed as we fought our way through the crowds to get back as fast as we could, finally arriving at 3:05 pm. The bus wasn't even there. We waited for it to arrive. At least there was a place to sit in shade. Would I use this tour group again? Yes. Would I share with Nadine what her words suggested to me? I guess I am by this review. I would tell her how much of a turn off it was to think I would be left behind to take a difficult walk during a heat advisory which would be stressful to me.

We recently did the Presqu'ile National Park & Old Mill Alpacas day trip. We had lots of fun…read moredespite the iffy weather. Our tour guide Charmaine is very organized & friendly. It was so nice that everything was laid out clearly. We knew how much time we had for each activity. Our first stop was to the national park. We were getting intermittent rain alternating with sunshine so it was pretty wet. Also the park is on marshlands so even more wet than normal land! lol. We got dropped off by one of the board walking trails. It's very scenic & beautiful despite the rain. The sun came out at times. So nice to get some fresh air & there were birds, frogs, fish all around. Our next stop was at the Presqu'ile lighthouse, beach & visitor center (all near each other). The beach is small & rocky but it was so nice to be near the water. After the lighthouse we got to wander around the small visitor center. It has two single washrooms, a small history room, & a small gift shop. Next was our lunch stop at the Big Apple. There are around 4 food trucks outside the main building. There's a petting zoo also. Inside the main building there are washrooms, a candy store, baked goods, souvenirs, a burger joint & a bar. I liked the big apple but it would be hard to get there without a car. I liked that we got to pay for our own lunch because that also meant we could get whatever we want. Sometimes the day trips include lunch & has a limited menu especially for people with food intolerances. After lunch we got to go to Old Mill Alpacas. Here we got to feed the alpacas, and walk the alpacas. The owner of the farm also did a quick talk about alpacas. It was very interesting! Because of the rain it was muddy of course so we got dirty but I didn't mind as I was prepared with my waterproof boots. Also short trips informed us of weather conditions in an email before the day trip. After the alpacas we had a 30 mins break for dinner at a highway enroute rest stop. Too bad these enroute places don't have better food options. Anyway short trips has no control over that. Our drop off was on time. Overall we really enjoyed our tour with short trips. We would go on another tour with them for sure. Since we don't drive or have a car this is a really nice way to see parts in Ontario we wouldn't normally be able to see.

While in Buffalo, I knew a quick trip to Niagara Falls was a must…read more We chose Maid of the Mist and it was first time bringing my child to see Niagara Falls. To see the magic of the Falls from the eyes of a child is amazing. I think this is my fifth time to Niagara Falls and it didn't get old. There is something new I see each time. The employees were kind and did a great job providing directions and keeping the line moving. We had no wait to board the ship. We were told 600 people could fit at one time. It was cool to find out the ship was fully electric and didn't have harmful emissions. The ride was very informative and we learned fun facts about the Falls. We definitely got wet but it felt good in the otherwise 85 degree weather. The ride is only about 20 minutes and totally worth it. Afterwards there were plenty of shopping and restaurants nearby within walking distance so we didn't have to move our vehicle. Definitely recommend this family friendly experience. It was cool seeing many generations represented.

First time on the Maid of The Mist was a blast. We ordered tickets for our group online and were…read moreable to walk up to a ticket agent to have them printed and get our complementary post card. The process was very fast. The views on the observation deck were great and led us to the elevator which takes you down to the boat. The elevators are packed full and have pre recorded messages with information about the descent (it would be a long walk down) We made our way down and were given ponchos. We had a quick wait to get onto the next boat. Due to this we were the first to board and got a great spot for the ride. The boats are all electric and as the ride goes on they have pre recorded information about the ship. Very informative and interesting. You really do get so close to the falls! As we got closer, the wind and water picked up making for a very exhilarating experience. Ponchos did help to keep us dry. It was a very fun experience. A little bit bumpy so be sure to hold on. It was very hot during our visit so this was a great way to cool off. I would say this is a must see if you visit Niagara Falls. I also liked that they had recycling bins to deposit your poncho in afterwards. I was concerned with the amount of waste with the ponchos but the bins are clearly marked right after you exit the boat. Really appreciated this and made sure to recycle our ponchos.
