I, thankfully, had a brief appointment with Dr. Chen to prepare a mold for abutment/crown over implant and hoping my final appointment will be as well. Here are a couple observations: 1. Not OK, for dentist to offer unsolicitated advice regarding antibiotic prescriptions suggested by my medical surgeon...then refer to said medcal advice as "old school" and even going further explaining the latest studies on the issue. Thanks but I prefer medical advice from my MD. 2. Not OK, for Dr. Chen and Dental Assistant to discuss their "new assistant's" lack of proper dental techique while working on a patient. They were so involved in their discussion, neither took a moment to check if I was doing "ok" as they poked, prodded and squished stuff in my mouth. My opinion is Dr. Chen is a young dentist in the business with a bit of a superior attitude and has much to learn regarding professionalism and how to communicate with patients regardless of their stage of life. I will say this dental office is high-tech with gadgets (except no way to provide feedback after a visit) but nothing takes the place of good old-fashion manners and basic interpersonal skills. read more

I came in today to have a crown that came off to be cemented back. Instead of Dr. Jason, who wasn't in today, I was helped by Dr. Cody. I was glad to meet him for the first time as he's a new member of the dental office. He appeared very professional and knowledgeable in his dental skills. He checked on my tooth, then carefully cemented it back, and made sure to adjust my bite properly. We had a short conversation during the process, which he answered my questions I had for him. From the very first phone call to the time I walked out the door, the entire staff could not have been more professional. I called to schedule an appointment and was given appointment options as soon as the next day. When I showed up the desk staff was friendly and accommodating. It was almost as if they knew I was anxious even though I didn't say anything about bad experiences with other dentists in the past. As I looked around the office my nerves calmed because the office is immaculate. The procedure itself was painless and thanks to the everyone that treated me, I didn't even come close to having the issues I had in the past with other dentists. I was referred to this dental office by a friend. It's in an nice location with a parking lot. The office was brightly lit and clean. All of the staff was super helpful and welcoming! Allen (dentist) was very friendly. He patiently answered all of my questions and walked me through all the steps. I have set travel plans for the next month and he was really understanding and didn't pressure me into getting any additional treatment right away. I have been a patient at this dental office for over 10 years and made the decision to transition to another provider because the service has been declining. I provided feedback on my negative experiences (after visit survey) at more than one visit and no one asked questions or followed up. This has left me with the impression that they don't care; hence my Yelp review. I dislike being negative but really want others to be aware that they do not offer all 5 star experiences so you can make your decisions accordingly. On several occasions my dental hygienist who is quiet chatty has said things that have made me feel uncomfortable (such as during the process of purchasing her home in Oakland that she realized that her building would cause gentrification but that she welcomed it so that her home value would increase). During the ealry months of the pandemic I called ahead of my appointment and asked the front desk staff to please indicate that I wanted to limit the amount of chatting during my cleaning. I arrive at my appointment and the first thing out of her mouth was "you want to limit the chatting but you're the one that chats alot". Not sure how me grunting or laughing as she goes on and on about her daughter during my cleaning with her hands in my mouth the entire time is me being chatty...but again what made me uncomfortable is that if I made the point to indicate this to the front desk then please lets act professional and respect my wish as a patient and not confront me as soon and I sit in the chair. During another recent visit I had to be seen by Dr Hoang and to be honest this visit was the deciding factor for my decision to seek care elsewhere. I was being seen for what I thought was a cracked tooth and when Dr Hoang entered the room he first did not even look at the x-rays that were taken for the purpose of the visit, or consult with the dental assistant that asked questions about my concerns and took all of the notes etc. He jumped in and went straight to my mouth started examining the wrong tooth, both the assist and my self mentioned that this wasn't the reason for my visit. The fact that two people had to mention this to the Dr made me lose confidence in this practice. The rest of the visit went pretty much down hill from there. He seemed to be in a rush and annoyed that he had to be corrected and I felt extremely uncomfortable so I didn't get to ask any of the questions that I had and then he left. Again I hate being negative but I really feel like I tried to give feedback as a patient and no one seemed to care. What's the point of an after visit survey if you don't acknowledge when the patient gives a negative rating. Also when I called to request the transfer of my records again I felt that that was an opportunity to find out if there was something that they could do better. The lady that I spoke with was poliet and asked if my decision to leave was due to me moving. I indicated no and told her that I had recently had a couple negative experiences and she didn't even bother to ask what they were or acknowledge or apologize on thier behalf which again raised red flags for me but validated my decision to leave. As a patient I want to feel confident that my care providers know what they are doing but that means nothing if they don't have the soft skills to make me feel like they actually care and this is where Nice Teeth Dental has fallen short for me. read more

I went in for a routine exam as a new patient and the receptionists, hygienist Evangeline, assistant Deelaine, and Dr. Quan are all very professional, friendly, and detailed-oriented. They are focused on educating patients around preventive oral care and truly providing care for the patient and less about the business itself. They are also very transparent and clear about the cost of everything and provide you with an itemized list. I found Nice Teeth Dental on yelp, after a long search I decided to give them a call. I explained that my daughter was in pain, they immediately scheduled us to go in later (the same day!). When we arrived, they received us with a smile; they promptly checked us in and in-no-time Dr. Quan was checking my daughter's tooth. Unfortunately, the tooth decay was too profound therefore they had to refer us elsewhere. This place! WOAH! I came from a fancy Dentist office in Alameda, right on the water. Floor to ceiling windows that offers long stemmed roses to customers on the way out. Super fancy.. but.. I cried in the chair.. .and I left feeling worried, hopeless, and ashamed. I was referred to NTD from some family members. They were pretty aggressive about it. I walked in and was greeted with an IPAD to fill out my paperwork. Done. Sat in the chair immediately. Done. Chatted with Elleana? on a personal level that was very comfortable. I felt as if I was a neighbor coming to borrow some sugar. Their X-ray machine is quick and painless and actually pretty creepy.. but super quick and also painless! As for the manual x-rays? Small strips on a cord. Super comfortable. In fact I was comfortable the whole time. The first words I heard from the Dentist was before I even saw him. He said "Okay, gotta wash my hands first." That's just a damn good sign. I was pleased. He came in to talk to me, I had already gone through the torture and embarassment from the other place so I was ready to hear it again.. but it never came. He was calm and cool. He didn't make me feel like I've never brushed a day in my life. He said, this is what I see, this is what I can do, no big deal. I could tell I need some work.. but he just assured me that we can get on a plan to get me back on track and I'm happy to go to GUM REHAB with these people. He was just a normal guy, here to help. You can tell. I am ecstatic to go back and visit all these nice people who. They lay on the bad news with TACT, PROFESSIONALISM, AND FRIENDLINESS. It is majorly appreciated. After being traumatized by this experience- and being out what would be three months' rent here in Chicago- I have not seen a dentist since my visit here. I know, I know...that's what gets me the problems in the first place. But when you don't have dental insurance for awhile and you're still paying off your last overpriced visit, there's only so much you can do. Good news is that I have dental insurance. Bad news is that I had to seek out a new dentist because one of my crowns- the same crowns that I HAD TO PUT ON RIGHT AWAY- broke. And it's not because I was spending my days at Willy Wonka's eating everlasting gobstoppers, it's because I was simply cleaning my teeth with a water pik. According to the new dentist I saw today, the crown had been cracked for awhile and the water somehow dislodged it. So while I initially applauded their service, I now have to rescind that opinion because a crown should not break after two years, particularly on a molar. That is just unacceptable. read more

I think I've actually found a dentist after a long quest. It was my first visit to Nice Teeth Dental, and I was pleasantly surprised. My appointment was supposed to start at 3:40 p.m., but I got a text asking if I wanted to come in sooner, which was great. I appreciate the fact that we're are able to receive reminders, updates and view forms electronically. I arrived to my appointment about ten minutes early. "Dee" checked me in (temp check). I can honestly say that "Dee" made my experience here a pleasant one. She was personable, relatable, and kind. Post cleaning/filling update: Had a two-day deep cleaning with Jillian (my apologies if I butchered the spelling of her name). She cleaned the crap (wait, it was just tarter and/or plaque) off my teeth. Made fun of my tears of joy... but I guess she was still nice. Dr. Chen did a fantastic job of (re-filling?) an old filling. Replaced the old silver-looking crap to a nice color-matching filling. Quite impressed with his needle technique. Didn't feel a thing when he stuck that ginormous needle into my gum... well, except when I opened my jaw too wide (I guess it was my fault). Quite satisfied with my experience. Highly recommended. *********************************************** I am the worst when it comes to dentists... I think I go less often than the Olympics are held. Since the Beijing Olympics are just around the corner, I figured I was due for another check-up. THE OFFICE. So I decided to make Dr. Jason Chen my new dentist. I went in for my initial eval yesterday, and everything went very smoothly. Linda, the Practice Manager, and Perci, Dr. Chen's assistant, were both extremely nice... Dr. Chen business partner is Dr. Stephenson (who has his own Yelp review). THE EXAM. Perci and Dr. Chen were very thorough in examining my teeth... I had one (TINY) cavity. =/ Luckily, Dr. Chen recommended that instead of drilling and filling such a tiny cavity, it would be wiser to maintain the original bone structure of the teeth, and just watch it. He could've easily said the teeth needed work and charged an arm and a leg to do it... but he didn't. CONCLUSION. I would definitely recommend this office. Besides what I mentioned above, I really like how the office is very much tech-savvy... the equipment looks new and/or well-maintained, there's direcTV in every exam room, and you get email reminders/confirmations about your appointment (with the option to add to your Outlook calender). SIDENOTE. GoogleMaps sucks and if you do a search for the office, it will give you the address as WEST Estudillo. The correct address is just Estudillo Ave. Hopefully, Google will step up and fix this screw-up, or there will be more future patients like me wondering why the dental office (incorrectly) looks like an apartment complex. read more

Came here to get a routine cleaning and my experience here was great. My hygienist, Holly was here name I think. The only problem with this place was that they didn't go over what they were doing and the relative charges before we started which was concerning after the fact when i saw the bill. Granted, im aware of the basics of what my dental insurance covers but I expected a confirmation of everything they were doing before they just did it. For example, I thought I was simply getting a cleaning. Instead, I received a cleaning, a consult (which was at fee) and a few other things that I don't re-call asking for. My only advice would be to make sure you confirm what procedures are being done and confirm the fees before so you don't find out at the end that youve been charged for things you were unaware of.
