Cute little place, very convenient for the Sadler Wells theater. It was a heat wave and they kindly gave me ice, and put the fan pointed at me. But I was disappointed in the food. I went because it's an entirely gluten free place. LOVE THAT! Thank you! They said the schnitzel was huge. It wasn't. And the breading didn't stay on at all. Not sure what they used to apply it, it was like mayo. Odd. Tasted good though! It says it comes with German potato salad. No. It had potatoes in mayo. That's not German, and that's not anything. The onion rings weren't crispy (maybe due to the extreme heat and humidity that day?). And the cheesecake, which was vegan (yay) but didn't actually resemble cheesecake. Initial Reaction: completely gluten-free. An amazing paradise if you are celiac (coeliac) or gluten-free by choice. Anything on the menu, you can order. They also offer vegan and vegetarian options if you don't eat meat or dairy. The service was prompt between the drink and food orders with the server making sure we had what we needed during our stay. Recommended by our friend who met up with us for brunch, the Angel-based restaurant is lovely and easily walkable from the Angel Underground Station. The Angel Pate was a great starter and wicked tasty, also vegan friendly. The niche fried chicken was absolutely fabulous as was the truffle Mac and cheese. The marination and spiced coating were wicked delectable and the truffle Mac and cheese was to die for. We probably could have just ordered that and been fine. We also split the Glamorgan Potato Cake with a fried beer-battered (gluten free) onion ring was heavenly, made with plant-based cream cheese, leek, and spring onion. The sun-dried tomato and basil gnocchi was decent but the highlight was the potato cake. The Limoncello Spritz and the Aperol Spritz were very good cocktails during our time, with the latter being the mainstay. It was wonderful to have a completely gluten free menu. My husband and I shared the Parmesan donuts. These were very cheesy and tasty. I only wish there was more of the tomato/red pepper sauce that came with it. I had the Niche chicken which is fried breast chicken. It was perfectly crisp and spiced on the outside and juicy on the inside. Preferred the aioli dip it came with as it balanced out the spice but it comes with a bbq dip as well. Also tried two desserts. The blondie and tiramisu. I wasn't the biggest fan of the blondie. It was made with sun butter which I hadn't really tasted before and didn't love the texture but my husband enjoyed it. I preferred the tiramisu which was non-traditional being lemon flavored. This place was a complete joke. We ordered our food and it came to the table an hour and 20 minutes later. Some of our dishes were outstanding and some were inedible. The waitress apologized profusely to some of the customers for the long long wait times but completely ignored other diners. I went to the restaurant looking forward to a great dining experience, but all 4 of us left completely disappointed and mistreated. We were very much looking forward to this GF restaurant but were beyond disappointed with our meals and the way we were treated. We had a waiter on his first night and he couldn't answer any of our questions. My wife ordered the Buddha bowl which came out not as described on the menu and was cold. The menu said it has roasted vegetables and all they gave were raw tomatoes. We complained to waiter who brought the manager who said she would have to look at the menu and talk to the kitchen and she never came back. One of the owners came over to see why we did not enjoy our meal and he did not want to listen and just berated my wife that she should have asked for manager, which she did. 3 other tables also complained of issues tonight. Another guest came over to our table after hearing the owner yelling to apologize to my wife telling her she didn't deserve to be treated like that. I had chicken schnitzel which was very greasy. We were looking for a gluten-free restaurant in London because my son has celiac disease and we settled on Niche because of its good reviews. I didn't expect it to be as formal as it was, and the waitstaff seemed somewhat put off by our slightly frazzled American family. Nevertheless, they got us seated without a reservation and we ordered. Things went downhill from there. First, the waiter actually instructed us to put our napkins on our laps when the food arrived. I would have put my napkin on my lap after the food was put down without the reminder, and I have never, ever been instructed on where to put my napkin down before. Was it because we are American? Was it because we had kids? Either way, unacceptable. Then, the food came and it was not great while being extremely expensive. The tomato soup was too spicy and too thick to eat on its own - more like a pasta sauce. The potato cake and onion rings were overly greasy and had strange toppings. The salmon app was rubbery and not nearly as good of quality as a similar item we ordered at Pret a few days ago. Overall, I literally couldn't wait to leave this place. We topped up at a local cafe afterwards and lamented the money wasted at Niche. read more

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! I am gluten free and dairy free and allergic to oats and this place was FANTASTIC. My only critique is the service is a little slow but it's understandable as they send the food up on a little elevator and have a small space. I had the bread selection and it was hands down best gluten free dairy free oat free bread ive ever had. That is a must have. My mother (gluten free) had the short rib and loved it and my other party member who is neither gluten or dairy free had the gnocchi and said it was better than any regular dairy-gluten-full gnocchi he has ever had. Definitely would suggest this restaurant and its definitely worth the journey (15 minutes from the strand). I cannot stress enough how much I enjoyed this place! (dont wear long pants or jacket as its quite warm inside) I would add a photo but it quite literally looked so amazing i had to shove it in my face. The ambiance was beautiful , the restaurant was beautifully decorated and the waiters/hostesses made sure that guests where well taken care of. I ordered the donuts as a starter, they tasted more like a croquette with a very doughy interior and the tomato sauce was very sweet. However, the curry chicken pie was incredible! The crust was so flaky and held the delicious filling so well. I didn't bother eating the potatoes that came on the side, there was a similar issue with the sauce for them being way too sweet. Finally the waitress recommended to tiramisu for dessert and it was truly amazing, the perfect amount of sweetness and every aspect went so nicely together. Ive been gluten free for about 5 years, I'm a pretty decent home cook and have a high standard for gf food. I wouldn't say this restaurant exceeded my expectations but it was a pretty lovely night out. Since I'm from out of the country I don't know if I'll be returning but I recommend it to anyone visiting the area , the price point is fair and makes it more accessible, and it's definitely a treat to feel such a deep sense of safety when eating out. read more

Our dinner at Niche was the best of our meals in London! With a Celiac son and another who's a picky eater, we typically worry about dining out (especially so far from America), but our experience at Niche was a unanimous vote for favorite. While it is always a boon to find a 100% gluten-free restaurant, finding one that also offers delicious options for the whole family and impeccable service in a warm and inviting space is like a gift that keeps on giving. We may have over-ordered out of excitement, but it was totally worth it. Our family of four enjoyed the Caesar salad and angel pate (a must-have!) for starters, followed by entrees of short ribs, steak Dianne, pan-seared cod, and breaded chicken (beloved by even our fussiest eater). We also devoured the mac-and-cheese side dish and rounded out the meal with pecan pie and ice cream. It was a well-received meal after long walks admiring the Shoreditch street art, but also a gem of a dining experience from start to finish. If Niche ever finds its way to America, they can count on us to be loyal patrons. read more

Ate here for lunch today and it was a nice, cozy place a bit outside the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas. The entire restaurant is gluten free and certified which was amazing to find. We ordered the sausage and mash and the hamburger. The burger and chips were super good and the sausage and mash (I got the smoky) was very smoky. Wish I ordered something else instead of the sausage and mash. We were too full to have dessert but the table next to us seemed to really enjoy their crumble and brownie. It's been a long while since a cheap and cheerful Thai restaurant occupied this location. It was always packed and the obvious choice for a quick meal before or after a visit to Sadler's Wells. There is now a great choice of restaurants in walking distance to the theatre, and Niche does a good job positioning itself as the pre-theatre choice with a special pre-theatre menu. This includes a starter and a main for £16. A bit of a shame when you prefer dessert as a second course - it starts getting expensive when you add it all together ... I think you probably get a feeling of better value in winter when pies and bangers and mash are a more attractive option. The summer choices are basically salads. I went for the superfood one which was OK, just OK, which is actually very disappointing. If you follow my reviews you know that I am an absolute sucker for a good salad bar, and I've munched my way through a mountain of superfoods over the years. This one reminded me of the mixed salads at Pizza Express where you always get the exact same number of tomato wedges and cucumber slices. The Niche superfood salad was basically a mount of lettuce leaves with a small-ish number of avocado, squash and feta pieces arranged around its edges. I didn't even recognise the quinoa as it was sprinkled sparingly on top rendering it tasteless. The dressing seemed to consist of lemon juice only. This is the sort of salad that makes you feel good for being healthy in the old-fashioned healthfood store sense - eating for function rather than fun. The starter was the opposite as I opted for a basket of deep fried cheese balls. They weren't actually very cheesy but tasty enough. Not quite sure what else they contained as the restaurant is famously gluten free. Having not finished my greens (defeated by those lettuce leaves), I needed some sweet comfort. Treacle tart, cheese cake and something chocolately all sounded tempting enough but ice cream won out on one of the year's hottest days - the salted caramel variety was delicious. I will probably come again, on a cold night, to gorge on all the greasy foods. Hopefully by then staff have got the pre-theatre service ethic down to a T - it's a bit annoying having to repeatedly call them over when it should be obvious you're on a schedule ... read more

Their Parmesan and Cheddar "doughnuts" are to die for and it's always great to get gluten-free fried chicken! Honestly, I usually just get appetizers when I go! I don't know how I've stayed in the dark about this place. A friend of mine found it and since our meal there I haven't stopped thinking about it. The entire menu is gluten free and they're definitely pretty clued up on food intolerances and allergies. The menu is vast and definitely has something for everyone. The chicken burger is absolutely delicious, though next time I'm desperate to try the fried chicken. Their desserts too.... the chocolate brownie which is warm enough to melt in your mouth... I can't even describe how good it is! Amazing! The waiter we had was a little weird and kept trying to convince us to buy everything else on the menu, but aside from that this place is my new favourite place to eat in London. Had pre-theater dinner last night with a friend. To start off, the host was friendly, a nice (and shocking!) development in London. I got the superfood salad for £12. A mix of broccoli, sprouts, slivered carrots, feta cheese and greens (I may be missing something). It was a heaping portion and they kindly followed my instructions to put the dressing-olive oil- on the side. That being said £12 is still a bit pricey for salad! It was good, not fantastic. My friend had the goat cheese salad with raspberry sauce and figs. She liked it much. I wouldn't go out of my way to travel here, nor would I plan on catching up with friends at Niche. It is a good place to go to before a performance as it's so close. Located right next to Sadler's Wells Dancer Theater, it is a natural choice for a pre-theater quick bite. It is actually quite cute on its own right with big windows and clean white furniture, occupying a street corner. It is a bakery as well, so you can find quiche and pies as the main offerings. The menu is quite British and I found it a bit hard to find items that I would like to have since I wasn't too hungry. I settled on a salad with goat cheese on toast. It was really delicious with two generous pieces of lightly roasted goat cheese on warm toast. I will definitely order it again next time I come to Sadler's Wells read more

Very busy. Make a reservation if you plan to eat here. People showing up are often turned away as it's a popular spot and doesn't have much room. They don't have a permit for outside, so you can only drink outside, not eat. The cheddar donuts were amazing so do yourself a favor and order double. I really love this cafe. I found it by chance while walking to the Angel tube from Clerkenwell and am so glad I stopped in. What was meant to be a one hour visit max turned into almost 4 hours. It was easy to get a table and I enjoyed a few coffees while working. There are big windows so there's a lot of natural light, free wifi and a very friendly staff. They didn't rush me at all and made me feel very welcome. I learned that this is also a gluten-free restaurant and will definitely check it out for food! Also, it's really close to the Angel tube, but not down on the main drag, so I feel like this is a hidden gem. I will definitely come back! read more

The food was incredible!!!! If you are gluten-free or not it is the best place to eat in London!!! I had the Beef & Chorizo pie with a spicy Vegetable fritter for starter and onion rings on the side. If you have to be gluten- free and miss your steak and Guinness pie, worry no more; the Beef & Chorizo pie is a great substitution. The Spicy Vegetable fritter was to die for good and the onion rings are fresh and battered their, no frozen onion rings and no guilt for eating gluten. My husband had the burger; the bun was incredible and the coleslaw was flavored of buttermilk, garlic and onions. Don't miss it! Or any other guilty pleasure you've been without by being gluten-free. Do yourself a favor if you're in London and go here for dinner. My wife and I were taken here by a friend, and if you're vegan/vegetarian or gluten intolerant, you'll love this place. And if you're not any of those things, you'll still love this place because they do have meat dishes. The staff is very friendly, and the service is great. The food? Fantastic. There's a theater next door, so try going when a play is being performed and you'll avoid the post-play crowd. I cannot say enough good things about this place.
