Provider is unprofessional and is as transparent as a black box. We got a second opinion and are transferring care. Husband saw Dr. Schenck for chronic sinusitis because it was such a long wait to see a different ENT, and Schenck had a cancellation. Schenck did a casual inspection, then a CT, all while getting distracted by his service dog. Said husband had nose polyps (not true upon second opinion review) and treated with steroids and Rx. Insisted on a follow-up visit (which could've been virtual) - hello fee-for-service business model - prior to a second follow-up with CT scan, upon which he immediately referred to his partner for surgery. He never asked what questions patient had and in fact, seemed irritated and testy when we asked questions given how opaque his answers were. NO explanation at all regarding causes, treatment options, similar cases he's seen, hygiene/prevention practice, etc. The second opinion provider was much more explanatory regarding inflammation on the scans, a 6-week course of action with irrigation, humidifier, Flonase, and what surgery would entail, risks, etc if the blockages weren't clear by then. Glad we got to see someone earlier given Schenck's schedule, but given his reticence to share information/thoughts/options, always running late, etc. - we're not coming back. read more

I went into doctor Schenk office for a mass found in my ethmoidal and frontal sinus. Since the first moment when he saw the scan was super helpful, and very thorough with all the medical attention I needed. He was amazing. My situation was very critica and the mass needed to be removed right away since it was going to touch my eye and I could have lost vision. Well he was the fastest doctor: went in for the first time Jan 21, saw him again Jan 25, got the surgery on Jan 28. It was a miracle. He saved my eye, my vision and my help. Awhile back my brother and I were rough housing and I broke my nose. Years later I finally had the scratch to correct it so I went to aft. Schenck on referral. I was nervous. He said don't worry. I said it's my face I'm worried. After I came to my nose didn't look great but that's to be expected that soon after procedure. 6 months goes by and my nose is some how turnt up and hooked down. Worst experience! I made an appointment for 9:30 a.m.. When I made the appointment, I asked them if they accepted my insurance, and they confirmed that they do. I get there, and realize that I had forgotten my insurance card. The reception area is completely empty, at the reception desk there are 3 women distracted with personal stuff, 1 of which was busy texting. I inform her that I have forgotten my card ,and whether I could provide her with any information for her to look me up. She looked at me, upset that I disrupted her texting session and with the laziest expression informed that she couldn't. Then, returns to texting. Then I ask her if she can bill me, she declined and said I would have to pay the visit up front. Ok--I can deal with that. When I asked her what the visit would cost, she looked at me annoyed again, and gave me a random price range. I asked if I would be refunded after I supply my insurance information, and she declined, all while texting and ANNOYED. Clearly she could care less and just wanted me gone. Why am I getting attitude? I have an appointment and I'm trying to not cancel it. This doc was referred to me by a friend. So I decided that I would call my insurance and get my policy number. The front desk receptionist told me that my insurance would have to actually fax her proof. So, again I said ok...I tried to find the number online, but my wifi was not working well. I turn to her, all the while she is eagerly texting, and ask her if she could look up my insurance phone number, because my phone was acting up. She sighs, and goes she can't. I ask her if she has internet access, all she has to do is google the name..she then goes .."Well, they have so many phone numbers, it's difficult". It's difficult to google the name of an insurance company and give me the number? I'm not asking you to swallow nails. At this point, the attitude just got to me. I looked at them and said, "well, I guess you really don't want this to happen. Appointment cancelled." Dear receptionists of the world, you are there to assist clients, not to text and cancel business for business owners, in this case, a physician. YOU ARE A RECEPTIONIST. I have been looking for a long time for a doctor to do my rhinoplasty and septoplasty. The moment I met doctor Schenck I could tell he was very experienced and knowledgeable. He was very honest, straightforward, and reasonable about the cost of the surgery compared to other places that seem to add fees and try to get as much from my insurance as possible. Dr Schenck made me feel very comfortable throughout the entire process and I am very happy with the results. I went to Dr Schenck originally to discuss getting cosmetic surgery on my chin & jawline. However immediately he told me my jaw and chin were perfect but pointed out that my nose was not. This was something I had never thought of before and was quite suriprised. He showed me how my nose had excess cartlidge, wasn't perfectly straight and had a deviated septum. So instead of getting my chin/jaw done I decided to follow his advice and have rhinoplasty done. My health insurance covered the deviated septum part and since I was going to be under the knife anyway he gave me a 50% off on the cosmetic surgery part, so it was well worth it and appreciated. He did multiple procedures, fixed the deviated septum, removed excess cartlidge from the tip and straighten my nose out perfectly. Dr Schenck definitely knows what he is doing! There was like 3 or 4 problems he did under one surgery. It was quick for how many problems needing fixing. I was under for about an hour I believe it was. He's not exactly gentle I was extremely swollen from having to break bones on both sides of my nose but he did an amazing job. My recovery was very painful though as is most rhinoplasty surgeries. They have to stick large tubes way up your nostrils to allow you to breathe when swollen after the surgery and after I think a week or 2 they removed them which was very painful. Luckily Dr Schenck was very generous with pain medication for me to be comfortable. I'm very grateful that he pointed out to me in my original consultation that my chin was fine but my nose was not, I would've never noticed had he not pointed that out. It's been 3 years now since the surgery and I'm very satisfied with my new nose overall. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking surgery. His staff is wonderful! I'm very picky when it comes to doctors, especially surgery I have to have the best of the best. Not only is he in my opinion the best in Beverly Hills, he may just be one of the best in the nation. Dr. Schenck came recommended to me by a friend who had a great experience with him as an ENT. I had a severely deviated septum, a bone spur inside my nose and required some other surgical methods to open up my sinuses so that I could breathe (balloon sinuplasty and turbinate reduction). I was initially apprehensive but Dr. Schenck rested me assured and, knowing his excellent track record, I was quickly at ease. He did a fantastic job with my surgery despite some difficulties with my nose and his follow up care was excellent. I am confident that he is the best ENT in the United States and had conducted a great deal of research prior to selecting him. He really knows his field and has been a trail blazer in the ENT medical fields as well as plastic surgery. I plan to use him again in the future for some cosmetic issues. The office staff at Tower ENT gets perhaps a one star rating-they are horrible, rude, do not care about their patients and when you call they put you on long holds (15 mins or more every time). You can never leave a message or speak with a nurse and no one will ever call you back. The staff is the worst I've seen at any doctor's office and I hate dealing with them. Perhaps therse not enough of them for the amount of work they have but they are still very rude, impatient and make you miserable. Dr. Schenck gets TEN stars. One of the most horrible experience in my Life. I have allergies problems (ear and throat itching) and I had sinus and ear infection. I never had a g problem from my Sinuses before. My main concern was the itchy feeling in my throat. Doctor Nicholas Schenck put very long microscope needle in my nose both sides and after he finished he said to the nurse that he needs CT scan. He didn't even explain to me why he needs CT scan. I told the nurse I need to know the cost of the CT scan before I take it because if it's costly then I can't afford it since I have high deductible with my insurance. The front staff said that they can't reach my insurance so I called my insurance and they answered right away and told me it depend about the doctor prices. I kept asking them how much the price and they kept going around circle with me until thy told me it's around $500. So I asked the doctor what did he see in my nose that he thinks that I need further CT Scan and he refused to tell me anything. He kept saying that he needs CT Scan. I told him any doctor ask for further X-rays or CT scan they have a reason that they saw something visually that's why they need for X-rays but this doctor all what he cared about is money money. Kept saying I need CT scan and all what I asked for for him to tell me what he saw with that long microscope needle that he decided that he needs CT scan. He even refused to give me any medication or over the counter recommendation for my allergies unless I took the CT scan. He didn't even ask me any questions about my symptoms or what I am going through. I tried to tell him but he wasn't listening and had a smirk on his face. Horrible human. No humanity. It's all about MONEY. It's not health service anymore. It's business. I am shocked that bug hospital like Cedars Sinai have this doctor on their property. I said I would never have plastic surgery but after my first consult with Dr. Schenck and actually seeing his previous work, I was almost convinced... I never really thought I needed a nose job but when Dr. Schenck patiently and expertly explained to me how he could enhance my natural beauty and 'change my life', it was hard to resist. It's been one week since my surgery and I am definitely ecstatic about the result. Mostly because I feel that it's still my nose, just a subtly, but infinitely better version of it. The best part is that you would never look at it and say 'what a great nose job', like many Hollywood noses out there. Dr. Schenck (pronounced skank-no I am not kidding) is awesome. He deserves that superdoc title. However, the office seems to triple overbook, at least they did in 2010. I would routinely wait 45 minutes past my appointment time. I am sure they get complaints all the time, but the ones I observed were handled very poorly by the office staff. However, the doctor fixed my ear when I was in an incredible amount of pain and despite his huge number of patients, he remembered what I did for a living over a year later when I went to him with a nasal problem. He also returned a call well after hours and he even called me the next day to check on me completely unprompted. So he has my respect and gratitude. Really funny guy too. Bottom line, take a book with you and pay for parking someplace other than a meter. read more

Dr. Schenck fixed a breathing problem I'd had for years by performing an outpatient procedure which included balloon sinusplasty. For the first time in decades, I am able to breathe naturally without the use of sinus sprays! It's been two months since the surgery and I continue to be amazed at how well I'm breathing. He told me what to expect before and after surgery and answered all my questions. Most importantly, he assuaged my fears of being awake during surgery by promising me he'd make sure I was asleep before going into surgery. I can't let the 2 star review stand alone here. I'm not even one to post reviews - generally I'm more of a reader - which led me to Dr Schenck to begin with. All these great reviews, of COURSE he was going to be fantastic. I got in to see him for what I know to be an inner ear infection. How did I know you might be asking yourselves...because I've had them before and so just like when you know you have a cold or the flu, I knew I had an ear infection. After waiting nearly 45 minutes to see the doctor with some rude staff in front, I had a very friendly nurse take me back. She did not take my temperature, but did ASK me if I had a fever....um, isn't that sorta your gig to find out? "how much do you weigh"? because they didn't weigh me either (this part I was OK with ;) The Dr. comes in about 5 minutes later. No bedside manner at all. Tells me my ears are fine. When I tell him I know it's an inner ear infection, he says, "you haven't told me the right things. It's not." This was very upsetting, to not be listened to. The entire visit felt frenetic. At one point he called me a "mystery". I wanted to talk to him about prescription allergy meds knowing my OTC one hasn't been doing the trick. I brought it up, he did not respond, rather turned, left the room as he said that he would be back with some literature. He then came back with a one-sheet on TMJ. He left the door OPEN as if to say this visit is over. It had been a total of less than 5 minutes. I said that I had additional questions. He said, "what?" like I was a burden to him. Again, I've waited nearly an hour to see him and am spending $60 bucks between the co-pay and the outrageous parking garage at Cedars. At this point I actually have to ask him to shut the door. Do I really want all the folks in the hallway and other patients to hear my sorted ENT questions? I found this to be insanely unprofessional. Not only was I being rushed out as he clearly didn't want to provide, ya know - medical services, but now he was being downright offensive. At this point I gave up. "Nevermind". Was he concerned at this response? Of course not. So concluded my oh so completely unhelpful visit to Dr. Schenck. I would have gotten more out of the call a nurse program...so apparently if you are in the market for a nose job, this could be your guy...but for me, NEVER again. If you are looking for a solid doc, I would caution against this one. read more

Dr. Schenk is amazing!! He seriously knows what he's doing and as it turns is one of the most respected surgeons in his field. After 15 years of various ENTs Dr Schenk, in addition to scans and xrays made some rather rudimentary observations by literally looking at me while I took deep breaths and did some poking about (I'm simplifying a bit). He was able to determine that I did indeed need surgery. It's been 8 weeks since the surgery and my life is incredibly better. Haven't had a headache, I sleep better, I breathe better, I smell better, I have more energy and can focus better. I can could go on a for pages on this. Regarding the people who mention that there is sometimes a long wait to see him despite making an appointment.... He's a great doctor, you're lucky he takes insurance and is available at all. He took his time with me and was able to diagnose something numerous other doctors overlooked. He's a surgeon, not Starbucks! By the way, if you take a look at his awards and certificates, he was a pilot surgeon in the military and has never stopped studying. He has a sense of humor too.
