My 80 yr old father pulled in straight off of the street with vehicle acting up. Owner said he could get it done that day to replace the alternater. Was assured that it was a new factor alternater and NOT refurbished after asking very pointedly about the condition of the part AFTER it was installed (my husband was standing right next to my father and heard the guy say "it's new". Why would he say it's new but then charge my father for a refurbished one? You can probably guess what happened. My 80 yr old father got home and inspected his beloved Cherokee only to find the big, bold REFURBISHED label on the alternater. Two stars only because they completed the work same day. Cost was over $600 total to verify that he were charged for a new part. UPDATE: The shop is trying to respond to my reviews claiming they only charged us for a refurbished one and that a new one would be "a few hundred more." A new one from Autozone costs $149. This shop is trying to pull a fast one on someone who could have rebuilt the entire engine a few years ago. read more

Had diagnostics run which cost $150. The front desk guy would not give me a copy of the report and said the bill was the report. Was quoted over $2500 for repairs that were done by another shop for less than $500. There were also other issues with the car that were not mentioned at Nichols. The shop uses a company for customers to take out loans to cover the cost of repairs. Never tell them how much you are approved for because that is exactly how much your repairs will cost. I went to 3 different shops and Nichols is the only one that quoted me such a high dollar amount for repairs. I had such a great impression of this shop in the past but my most recent experience put a bad taste in my mouth. I was told by a trusted mechanic not to use them because they were just trying to trick me and get as much money as possible from me. The front desk guy with the tattoos on his face had a completely different demeanor once the boss left and became very sexist and rude the moment no one else was around. A Royal Fuck You to this place!! And James can eat a bag of dicks. Paid over $800 to get my rack and pinion replaced only to return 4x for them to do the job properly.. and still didn't complete it to standard. My first upon picking up the car initially, James says "we'll see you back here". My second when the job was complete I specifically asked if the power steering was leeking.. James said "No". In less than 48 hours I was back in the shop due to power steering leaking. My next James says I'll have to leave the car with them for a full day to figure out what's going on.. you know, so they could charge me more for labor. Took it to a professional (because obviously these guys are not) and found out that it was simply an O-ring missing from where the rack connects to the power steering. This shop DELIBERATELY COMMITING FRAUD! You don't "forget" an O-ring.. that elementary shit. They are so lucky I didn't sue them as my girlfriend nearly got in a car accident because the steering wheel went stiff due to their negligence. Next I noticed that the bellows weren't replaced. James got nasty with me, cussing me out for holding him accountable in front of his mechanics. UNPROFESSIONAL. When replacing the bellows, I here James talking shit to his mechanics on how he "just doesn't like my face and would fuck me up if he saw me anywhere else". This is a clear sign that the poor guy doesn't get laid.. Once replacing the bellows, no alignment was done as necessary with this type of job. Heard James specifically tell the mechanics not to do an alignment.. Spoke with a few shops in the area to make sure you dont get any more recommendations for your negligent, unprofessional, disrespectful and unqualified of a shop. I'm glad I went with my gut and went with these guys. They're great! I went to Nichols Auto Repair because, unlike other repair shops, they actually returned my call when I left a message when researching a repair back in April 2022, and because this time around (Feb 2023) they answered my call and got me in for same-day service. I'm a woman who doesn't know much about cars except when something is off. I came in with both a budget and a long list of concerns ahead of a drive up to Alaska and, opposite of what other negative reviews here say, Mike and (I believe it was John) actually seemed gently determined to help me prioritize what *needed* to be done first and what could probably wait for a later day. I felt like these guys were my uncles (especially Mike, who had a friendly, helpful, smiley, and informative demeanor), making sure I was taken care of. Terrible terrible mechanics and customer service. Took our Jeep in tho have body mounts changed and a body lift put on and they kept it for 9 days. Jeep came back with burn marks on the doors, dent in passenger side door, grease all over, bolts loose and missing, and the worst part is they messed up the 4 wheel drive. Made a deal for 6 hours of labor that would be around $800. Ended up paying $1100 and they charged us $50 to keep it over the weekend (which they didn't). DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLES HERE! In the end we paid the $1100 and took the Jeep home to fix ourselves. They probably did over $1100 in damage to our Jeep! And James is just a lying smooth talking rip off artist! My first impressions of owner James and his employees was quite favorable when I had a quick, inexpensive oil change done there. The vibe was good and they were responsive. BEWARE! Had some further work done. Nichols cuts corners on their work, are rough handed in their work and bill for "premium" parts then put in cheaper. My 4 struts on my Toyota Prius needed replaced and owner James gave me an estimate of $1393. I had them do the work. Within a week my left front strut mount went out and I returned. They were "going to only charge for the part, (the strut mount) not the labor", I guess since they were good ole boys. Yeah, right. I asked why the mounts was not replaced during the strut replacement. James said they don't replace the mount unless there is an issue with one, and that was rare. This statement seemed off. After a confrontation James agreed to replace the left front mount for free, then later said decided he was replacing the mounts on both sides. (out of the generosity of his heart:-) He would have the car ready by noon the next day (Friday). Late Friday James had his employee Chris call to inform that "they were slammed all day" and could not get to the car. They would keep the car over the weekend and have it ready Monday morning. They were slammed every day I dealt with them. "Slammed" apparently means they move new potential business walk-ins to the front of the line. So I had no car over the weekend. Picked up the car Monday at noon. For peace of mind I immediately brought the car with new mounts to Japanese Auto in Wheat Ridge for a second opinion of Nichols' work. Russ at Japanese Auto checked over the struts- and all was in order now after 3 visits. My struts billed as "premium" on my estimate are cheaper Monroe brand- not the higher warranty KYB Japanese or even Tokiko brand. Japanese Auto gave me a quote of $640 using similar parts as Nichols did. However, Japanese Auto reports they always replace the shocks with KYB Japanese made shocks with lifetime warranty, and the job involves replacing the struts, the bump stops and bellows (protective boot) - which Nichols Auto did not do. Both shops realign the car as part of the job. We won't even go into the left front wheel bearing that failed a day after the strut work was complete- another Nichols "rare occurrence" that ruined my brakes and rotor on the left side, prompting an $800 bearing, brake and rotor job. This work was done several days before the mount went out. These guys work with a heavy hand, pad their estimates and cut corners. Stay away! They need to keep those Groupons and cheap oil jobs going to get new customers. read more

While paying the bill the man tells me that the did not pull the rear drums and inspect the rear brakes because it is too much work an they don't get used that much! STAY AWAY! This place is hidden behind a Kfc/taco bell in Arvada just east of the autozone. I've been taking all my cars here for years. Miranda who runs it is very nice. They do just about any kinda of work on any kinda if car except Volkswagens. Last year on vacation some how a bolt went missing on my caliper and we got stuck in the farthest part of Utah you could get. Any way after we got home they owned there mistake and paid for all the repairs I had to pay for on the trip even the rental car, no questions asked. My teen had his first car accident and Mr. Nichol's was so professional and kind to both of us every single time we spoke to him. We also have an insurance company that had a very cumbersome system for approving repairs. This repair shop explained to me every step that was needed and worked really well to help navigate me through the crazy insurance process. In the end, there was one more thing that needed to be fixed on my sons car and the insurance company gave us a really hard time in order to get the car and the repair approved. Mr. Nichol's was such a great big help in getting things expedited. He never behaved as though it was our problem to get the insurance company to cooperate :I felt like he was really on our side and did over and above what was expected of a very busy man. So thankful for these wonderful people. This is the only place I would use to do body work on our vehicles. A year ago they helped with a repair on our Denali and they were wonderful then too! Great place to go if you want someone to do the wrong scope of work on your vehicle, won't call you with a quote, but will just do the work expecting you to have an open wallet and be at theeir mercy. $125 per hour shop rate!?!? That's insane. The last shop I had work done was $85/hr and that's a diesel shop! BEWARE!!! Do not use this so called repair shop. James is nothing else but a smooth talking snake oil salesman. That is until you figure out that he does not know what it takes to fix a car, then he becomes rude and confrontational. I would not trust them to fix a broken bicycle, let alone car. If you do have money to burn this is the place for you. I took my car to Nichols to fix a small oil leak and they have been miss-diagnosing the problem, and experimenting on the car, without fixing the problem, including charging outrageous prices in doing so. I wish I would have read the reviews on Yelp beforehand. First they diagnosed valve cover gasket leak, then timing cover gasket leak. $1200 and a few weeks later I pickup the car and James assures it is not leaking anymore. I take it home and it's still leaking right away. I bring it back, because he gives 3 year warranty and I'm thinking it's covered. Wrong!! They diagnose the leak as rear main seal leak now ! After they said oil leak is fixed first time 2 weeks and $600 later I pickup my car and James assures it is not leaking anymore. I take it home and guess what, still leaking. Take it back again thinking about warranty and they diagnose the leak as rear cam plug leak?! And My engine needs to be rebuilt?!! At this point I realize who I'm dealing with and ask for oil leaks fixed free of charge or my money refunded. James refuses and gets confrontational. In between they also kept my car for 3 weeks to fix power steering issues and at the end just admitted they cannot figure it out. I wish they would have said that to begin with, would have saved me a lot of trouble and $2000. Stay away from this "repair" shop!!! read more

The is a small family shop, the service is great and they will look at your auto as if it were their own. I dropped my truck off as I was flying out of town over the holiday. I asked them to check my brakes, replace my wheel hubs, and check for anything needed as maintenance. The mechanics worked over the holiday to get my truck ready for my return. The owner communicated via email every step of the way, which kept the repairs moving. When I picked the truck up the cost was less than the estimate. It just does not get any better. read more

*Update* I've been consistently bringing my vehicles to Nichols since I found them and I will continue to do so as long as I'm in the area! Just today they found issues with an alternator repair from a previous shop. They called the shop for me, explained what a shotty job they did and somehow managed to get the other shop to pay for the repairs. Have never heard of such a thing, but will be telling everyone I know to bring their cars to Nichols. Honest, caring family business. Love it! I'm just going to start by saying these guys that work here are awesome! My husband and I we're traveling from out of town to go to a wedding, and our truck started smoking really bad on the highway, we quickly pulled over and tried to find somewhere we could take it to get it looked at/fixed. This happened about 3:30 on a Friday afternoon, so we were starting to think our chances of getting our vehicle fixed we're slim to none and our chances of making it to the wedding was ruined. We tried calling several places and everywhere turned us down. Finally, we got ahold of Nichols Auto repair and spoke to Mike about what was going on and he said bring it on in. We can't say enough how thankful we were that they were able to take us in during our emergency situation. We had fantastic customer service the entire time! They we're able to get the parts needed, and even stayed well past closing to make sure we could get back on the road! It's because of the hard working guys at this shop that we were able to go to the wedding and enjoy the rest of our vacation! read more

I took my 15 Explorer sport in for a timing chain replacement as a preventative maintenance and got back a paperweight. I'm so disappointed and disgusted in the quality of work I received on my vehicle and the bs about losing my number 3 separate times. We make mistakes but how one handles the mistake is where there characters shows. Long story short my valve cover was broken, 2 timing cover bolts were stripped of the heads and it was leaking, my blowoff valve in the rear was unplugged as were all the intake hoses. My oil catch can was routed with the oil line angled like a rainbow as well as my billet catch can was visually scratched and dinged like no other. My wiring harness was routed by and left to lay on my rear turbo and melted.. they said they use top of the line parts and for the water pump they got a standard pump from oreilly also. Sorry guys O.E.M is top of the line. Numerous vacuums were left off and sensors as well as an oil line to the front turbo was left loose amongst other things. Ydon't even need to take half of that shit off to do the job!. I'll b revising this review with photos and cost of damages incurred by them. I've sent emails and called and no reply. Worst experience ever. These guys will rip u off with a smile on there face. U can get better quality work from a monkey with a toothbrush. Think mode than twice if u consider bringing your car here. I dealt with the Nichol's family for years and loved them. (Miranda was still there, working the front desk, when I would bring my cars in). I always found them honest, kind, and knowledgable and I always felt a sort of brotherhood with them in their love for old Chevy pick-up trucks. I know these folks have had some challenges, like losing their mom who helped run the shop (heart disease I think). But they kept slugging it out, faithful to the daily grind, serving their customers, and never, ever wavering in their commitment to HONEST service. I'm in Texas now. I'm writing this review because I visited Denver recently and had a car problem that I wished I had gone to Nichol's for (but made the mistake of taking it to a different mechanic - now I'm licking my wounds). This was my first visit to Nichols. I had my car in for a brake check at another repair shop and they told me that my CV axle and wheel bearing were bad and I needed to get it replaced. I went and bought the parts myself and just needed Nichols to do the work. I took it in and received a call from James shortly after saying that my axle and bearing were fine. However, my rotors were warped which is what was causing my car to shake when braking. He cut them down and we called it good! He could have easily just changed out the parts I brought in and charged me the labor which would have been three times as much as what it took to fix the problem. My car broke down at my parents place far from my favored auto shop in Greeley. My parents suggest Nichols based on their quality service a few years back. However, their service is no longer of any quality. They are deceitful, unskilled, overcharge, and slow. I was told by my favored mechanic in Greeley that the repair should take a couple hours and Nichols quoted me that they were familiar with the repair and thought they could get it done in a similar time. I provided the parts and everything. They said they would get to it the next day. I called them the next day for an update they said by the end of the day they would provide me with an expected repair time. I was never called back. I asked for another update the next business day with still no repair time. A few hours later they call and told me that the brand new steering lock I provided was broken. They claim it was broken when they got it, but I really doubt that. the part was sealed when I received it, they said they made sure they rotated the part to make sure it would work which according to the repair manual I saw later would breaks the part and it was at there shop for 5 days and they had started working on the car before they noticed it was broken. I spent 6 hours finding a replacement and delivering it to Nichols because Nichols denied responsibility and ordering the part from them would have been more expensive and taken another week. Finally the next day they finished their repairs. They charged me twice as much for labor then they said it would take. They still denied breaking the part. It had been almost a week since I dropped it off. Instead of apologizing for any of this, they patronized me as though I should have expected them to do such a terrible job. It would have been faster, cheaper, and wasted less of my time to have my car towed to Greeley. I suggest you don't make the mistake I made of trusting Nichols with your car shop needs.
