Dr. Faber is condescending, charged for services he refused to perform and is not good with animals.

As always Dr. Faber does an excellent job. The appointment was on time, and my little Boston terrier was taking good care of.

I had taken my dog in for a free exam given by the ACVO for service/therapy dogs. The staff was very welcoming and Dr. Faber was great.

I clearly explained my dog has some sensitivity from past veterinary trauma. During the exam, they touched her from behind without warning, she gave a brief warning response (no bite), and they immediately stopped and refused to continue. The only options offered were: * come back for another paid visit with anti-anxiety meds they never told me about beforehand, or * take my dog to the back alone for sedation/anesthesia to complete vaccines. I don't understand how separating an already anxious dog from their owner, restraining them, and sedating them is considered more "fear free" than a calm, controlled vaccine with the owner present. For context, my dog regularly goes to groomers and is handled all over her body without issue. This feels specific to the vet environment, not general aggression. I later went to another highly rated clinic and they handled her immediately and professionally. She was given treats, a muzzle was only used briefly as a precaution at the end, and she received all vaccines and testing in one visit within minutes--for a better price. This clinic felt rigid, poorly communicated, and more focused on protocol and repeat visits than actually working with the animal in front of them. I would not recommend them.

When I came to get Eevie's bloodwork done last year we had a bit of a false alarm kidney scare, and Dr. Thornton showed so much compassion and clear direction. The appointments never feel rushed. We followed up a year later and no kidney issues, thank goodness! Dr. Thornton even reached out on her day off to tell me the good news as soon as she got the lab work in. Eevie went in for dental extractions recently and we had another great experience. They provided me with medication to give her prior to bringing her in to help calm her and prevent nausea. They even showed me the kennel she'd be kept in - a dark room separate from dogs with huge heated kennels. I appreciated their communication every step of the way and I could tell everyone that works there is super knowledgeable and committed to their mission of being fear free. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and like you can drop by or check in at any time after you drop your pet off for a procedure. And during her exams, Eevie appreciated the many churrus and got her first taste of whipped cream one visit!

I've taken my young dog here to get his standard shots/exams, but this last week I took him in for a leg issue that turned out to need surgical intervention. Scary, and expensive news. But the team was so great. Got us in for a same day, after hours appointment, and scheduled his surgery within a week of calling in. Doctor Baum called me personally to explain what was happening, why he recommended the surgery, a video of how the surgery works, and a detailed estimate. Gave me time to process because it can be overwhelming mentally and financially. Staff all loved on my boy both visits - it's a good sign when your dog wags his tail entering the vets office. Day of the surgery doctor called me before and after surgery to check in, and reviewed the results with me. Private Equity firms are buying up practices and hospitals all over the country. It's important to support local businesses who care about your furry family members not just about the bottom line. Thank you BVH team

I am disabled, on a fixed income, and my cat is my only family. I was charged $495. When I later obtained the medical records, I was shocked to find no physical exam notes whatsoever--no exam findings, no palpation, no dental assessment, no SOAP notes. Only lab results. I was charged for services that, based on what I observed when we got home, do not appear to have been performed, including a nail trim I specifically requested. There was also no visible evidence or documentation of blood draw or urine collection. Despite no explanation of my cat's condition or prognosis, I was handed an expensive dental estimate far beyond my ability to afford and then shown the door. I was humiliated at checkout after explaining I was poor and hoping I had enough money to pay. I paid partly by credit card and drained my debit account. I was even charged for a can of food that was presented as complimentary. This experience left me terrified and unsure whether my sick, elderly cat was actually examined. I have since filed a complaint with the California Veterinary Medical Board. If you love your pet, request and carefully review your medical records. I trusted this clinic's long history. That trust was broken. Stay with your pet the entire appointment. Midtown Animal Hospital is operating on a cancelled premises license which is a violation of BPC 4853. This means that the Hospital is not authorized to legally operate or provide any veterinary services. It's been cancelled for 3 years. How can they still be open? Sacramento is corrupt and Pro Business. They must know the right people. They need to be held accountable.

I have taken my cats there when they needed regular appointments for many years, as well as emergency care and they used to be good. I do expect to wait when you take them in for emergency care because there are other patients ahead of you, some more critical. I get it. So when I needed to take my cat in because she was not eating or drinking for the past few days, and her regular vet said to take her to an emergency vet, I called Mueller and was put on the "Virtual Waitlist." This was new to me, they had not had this when I had visited in the past and sounded like a great option since she was not critical, we could wait at home until they had time to see her that day. This is a lot less stressful for her and me. We were placed on the Virtual Waitlist at 11 am. At 5 pm I was sent a text that said they were ready for us and to come into the hospital. So I rushed down there and checked her in at 5:41 pm. We sat in the lobby waiting until 10:45 pm before we got into an exam room and saw a doctor. And then I was told that they could not help us and that they would see if there are other emergency vets in the area that could hospitalize my cat and provide an ultrasound the next day. I sat in the exam room for more than an hour before the Dr came back and let me know that she had found 1 place that we could possibly get into that night. I do appreciate her finding another ER hospital that was very helpful. She was doing the best she could. But I spent $178 and waited 6 hours to just go somewhere else. Which we did at midnight-I drove up to an ER Vet in Roseville. So my poor sick cat had to be in a carrier for 6 hours at Mueller and then the 45-minute drive and then 3 hours at the new ER vet. This was beyond stressful for her and me. From what I experienced, the "Virtual Waitlist" is not for their patients- it is for them to control how many people are coming in at one time and waiting in their lobby. You will still wait 5-8 hours to see a doctor after you arrive and check-in with reception. I wish they would communicate that fact more clearly. I don't think I will be using their services again after this nightmare.

Follow up: Appt: May 4th This was my first time at this VCA location. Gemma was the Vet Tech who took care of my baby, Penny. Penny has arthritis. Recently her back leg has caused her not to be able to stand for very long. She also developed east west feet. Which means the paws go outward. Gema was so gentle and compassionate to her. Penny was seen by Dr. Cavanaugh, one of the best Doctors I've ever had for my pets. I asked her a million questions because I was beside myself not knowing if I was going to have to put Penny down. My experience with previous doctors as they appear annoyed by all the questions and do not show any compassion. She was the complete opposite. She welcomed the questions. Thank God she prescribed me some medication, and we decided to see if it would help her with the pain. I felt like they were both my guardian angels. June 17th Penny woke up 2 nights ago and made a horrible sound as if she was in serious pain. First thing in the morning the next day, I called the office. I spoke to Julia, and Beloved through out the day. Both as sweet, kind and patient as they were when we came in previously. I also spoke to Alina and she was super nice. They both left Dr. Cavanaugh message ls regarding different medicines that we could try. Thank you so much Dr. Cavanaughfor following up with me after hours. That is rare. A typical Dr. who had a busy day and with other patients and all the updating charts etc would have called the next day. Beloved, you went above and beyond and thank you for allowing me to get my medications yesterday. The entire staff at this location are amazing individuals. FYI: Penny was able to get up to go to the bathroom and I almost passed out it! It was like a miracle right before my eyes.
