We came in for some lunch! This place had most of everything on its menu! I opted for the patty melt which was really good! My sister got the porkchop sandwich! We were greeted and helped as soon as we arrived . It was a little busy due to it being lunch time. There is a drive through available or dining in. I came here on September 24th on my way to Charlotte to fly back to Las Vegas , which also was my birthday. I grew up in Bennettsville and one of the things I love to get when I visit the Carolinas is Chicken Bog. Well , when I was in Myrtle Beach I guess I missed all the places that serve it only one day a week , usually Friday or Saturday. I called around and no one had it the days I stayed there. So when I stopped in Bennettsville I started calling places in Charlotte to see if I could get some before heading out , nope. Half the places I called who called themselves Southern Restaurants or such , didn't even know what Chicken Bog was , what ! So , I looked up on Yelp and Nick's came up. I called and the lady I spoke to said they make it everyday. So I drove the 30 minutes to get some since I still had time to get to the airport. The place is small , but clean , and seemed pretty busy with lots of people calling in their orders for pickup and a few diners like me. The 2 ladies behind the counter were nice and my order was received pretty quickly. The menu is pretty large for a small bbq place. If I lived close by I would've liked to try more things they serve. Well now to the Chicken Bog. It was a big helping and came with hush puppies. I could've got more sides , but I just wanted to be simple to eat and run and I got a bottle of Pepsi. It looked pretty much like the usual yellow rice with shredded chicken. I did notice that there was no sausage and I asked one of the ladies and they said they don't put sausage in theirs which most times I've had it does and sometimes small pieces of green and red peppers which weren't in there either. So it was a little more bland than I'm used to. It was almost more like Campbell's Cream of Chicken with shredded chicken added to it. I'm not trying to be mean , but it was a little disappointing. I added some pepper to help it out a little bit. The Hush Puppies were pretty good. I'm sure more of the food is probably better since the place seems to be pretty popular. I will also be making a YouTube Short of the place and I hope it gets them a little more business and gets the word out about them. One of my classmates who lives in Darlington now saw the pictures I posted on Facebook and she said she had never heard of this place and asked where it was. So I sent here the Yelp page. read more

This is real BBQ. It is not fancy. It is not large. It is simple and plain. But when you are here you can have a real BBQ meal. It is not a chain of locations or styles. It is one team here making a perfect BBQ. We can have side dishes, sandwiches, or a plain BBQ dinner. We had pulled pork and a side of potato salad. We also had a mix of pulled pork and chicken pulled and mixed with rice. We also had a side of mac and cheese. This was excellent. The mac and cheese could have been a meal to itself. But the combination was ideal. All entrees came with hush puppies as well. It was all homemade. Nothing was frozen or bought separately to the restaurant. It was fresh and made that morning. You can order in or take it out. Your choice. Service it fast. You do not have to wait. The orders are large. The pulled pork BBQ had to be almost 1 pound. That is a lot. It is all fresh. My food was over salty. I ordered the whiting and shrimp plate. I couldn't eat the fish nor shrimp. The hushppupies were wonderful. When I've ordered that menu item before it was very satisfying. The only time I don't like Nick's is when it's closed! Ha! This is one of my favorite restaurants in town. For a family of five price for quantity (and quality) is important. Nick's meets that need for us. Order the chicken bog plate with macaroni and cheese and string beans and you'll easily have enough for two. Or if you want to get a low cost, quick meal grab the grilled cheese with fries...better than mamma makes it! They often have great specials! If you have more time and want to eat in, enjoy a juicy BBQ sandwich and some southern sweet tea that is mixed to perfection and refilled with the kindest of employees. One of my family members moved away and he brings up Nick's all the time. There just isn't anything like it! It's delicious, affordable, friendly, and usually fast (occasionally they get backed up because they are so popular). If you have any issue, believe me when I say they will greet you with a smile and make it right. I'm a very picky eater and it takes a lot of consistency for a place to earn my repeated visits, but I could eat Nick's every. single. day. I mean it. Everyday! I love this place and the owners are good people- salt of the earth- kind and caring. Don't just take my word for it. Give them a try! Nick's is a step above the chain fast food places. We eat at Nick's several times a month and it has always been good.

The interior is quaint and the staff was nice. Not the best barbeque I've had, it had too much of a liquid smoke flavor, which I can't stand. I will try this place again but maybe try a hamburger or hot dog or something else on the menu. read more

This place is terrible. I was traveling on the east coast and googled good bbq and somehow this place came up. So I got off the freeway to check it out and the place was not clean. Went to wash my hands and the men's restroom was yuck as it was not even clean and looked like it hadn't need cleaned in days. The cashier and waitress were eating at the counter and they didn't wash their hands. The bbq was not good. Recommend someone contact the owner and get some house cleaning started. read more
