Many avoidable issues are the basis for the rating. Background: Nicole suggested a partial planning package. At the time, I was at the tail end of graduate school and preparing for my boards. For this reason, I was a very hands-off bride or at least intended to be so. Also, I had never really thought of having a wedding so a pretty blank canvas. Many of my choices were modern in the end. I left a lot of artistic liberty to Nicole when it came to choosing patterns and colors. During our interview session, I mentioned the things for which I did not care to know the details and will which were important that I have oversight of. **Customer Service: Nicole had her staff at the event helping vendors and guests during set-up. My mother-in-law arrived and noticed that she did not have a seat at the table. She asked one of the staff members, who pointed to a chair and asked her to get one herself. I do not believe that any guests should be told to get their own chair, much less the wedding party. If they treated the mother of the groom this way, I can't imagine what they would say to our guests. Unfortunately, the staff is reflective of the business and this did not bode well with me. Nicole was apologetic and has since had a meeting with her staff. **Centerpieces: My bridesmaid and I spent a night thinking up, diagramming and mock setting up the centerpieces that would be used for the day of. I sent this diagram to Nicole with a picture of the mock set-up, she agreed and suggested some minor adjustments. When we arrived the day of, the setup was nothing like the diagram at all. I was open to the adjustments and had agreed to them, but our diagram was completely disregarded. It did not look bad, just simple. **Missed ceremony: in our initial questionnaire, we listed wanting to perform a knot ceremony which we forgot to explore in meetings. This kind of detail is something I believe the wedding planner should follow-up on and plan accordingly. **Communication: Nicole and I had to work on our communication skills quite often. Her emails are quite detailed, which is good, but can be overwhelming. I asked if we could separate each topic into a different email so it would be easier to follow. She was happy to do so and it helped our communication greatly. As for communication with people involved in the wedding, such as the officiant, I do not believe that it was helpful. She was kind enough to extend communication to them, but when they finished talking to her, they called me back and said that they hadn't gotten many answers. **Vendor coordination: She is very skilled when keeping communication open with a venue and the vendors. The wedding timeline overall was kept and all the pieces fell into place. She was able to send me detailed costs, contracts and imagery from vendors. **Attention to detail: Being a hands off bride, I asked for a lot of input with ideas. I am not very creative and therefore was open to suggestion. Many of the things that I did not have answers for, ended up being last-minute touch ups or things that my bridesmaids completed. For example the altar was not finalized until the rehearsal, she previously extended an offer to build a backdrop through her business, but no other options such as rentals were ever suggested. in the end, we ended up buying many things from Homegoods and having NGE stage them. During the initial planning, I sent Nicole a contract to review for our bartending service. I received a long-winded email about the need for a second bartender and several examples of how a single bartender would be detrimental to guest flow and clean-up. If one bartender was to be hired, we would need to pay extra to have additional wait staff, etc. The problem here is that I had hired two bartenders. Nicole admitted that she wanted to reply quickly and had missed that detail. I understand that mistakes happen, but sending me a catastrophizing email about the potential failures of the reception was quite overwhelming and unnecessary. Contract reviewing was part of her listed duties and should be done with attention to detail. **Details: We did not have any signage for our wedding hashtag or welcome table. I simply did not come up with it, but although we discussed signage in general... There was no help generating a list of needed signs. **Day of: overall the wedding was beautiful and the guests did not know about the hitches. Missing the knot ceremony and my mother-in-law's reading was something that the DJ and Nicole did not coordinate well between both of their questionnaires. Overall, my advice would be to make sure that the wedding coordinator you choose is someone you align with in style and personality. The relationship between Nicole and I was very much business-like, which in hindsight may not be perfect for this type of hiring. The BEST decision my husband and I made for our wedding was to hire Nicole and her team. We used her partial planning service and started the process about 8-9 months prior. I knew from the first time I met her that she would be able to execute our wedding perfectly. Not only was she very relatable, but I could also tell how organized, detail oriented and capable she was from the get go. The online planning system that she uses really helped us stay on track month by month. Nicole also made herself available to us for all of our small questions/worries. Due to work, I put on several mid-to-large sized events each year and when venturing down the wedding road, I remember thinking to myself, "do we really need a coordinator? My fiance and I are savvy and can figure this out. And with complete candor, can admit that up to the event I still thought that we may have gone overboard and chalked it up to a "hey you only live once" moment and thought nothing else of it. This is not to say that the staff of NGE Planning & Design weren't executing the tasks required with professionalism and efficiency. Andy and I were never the couple to want to get married... after 6 years, he popped the question and I about lost my marbles.
