I have been to so many places and Haru Salon is the only one for me. I can trust them to do an outstanding job and leave me filling with confidence. I'll walk you through the process. First they don you with two capes and another item for your neck. Is it cold? They have a closet that warms up your jacket. Second they wash and massage your hair and your back in a massage chair. Next they cut your hair to your liking and walk you through the process - they will tell you what looks good and why. With the amount of meticulous care I've seen them take compared to anyone else blows me out the water. Another hair wash (okay this is new to me since I have never seen a second hair wash in the North) and styling, waxing, blow drying your hair. Jennifer, the owner, is the sweetest and really cares about all the kids that come through her salon. All of her stylist are well versed on the latest trends. I saw a high school aged girl come in with her mom to ask for a "wolf cut." Off the bat, I had to google what that was but one of the stylist knew exactly what that haircut was and began advising and being honest about how high maintenance that haircut was. The girl wanted the hair cut anyways, so the stylist went at it! I have 3 little girls, so I decided to have a fun girl's day to pamper them with manicures and haircuts. One of my girls got colored hair extensions and another got glittery hair extensions. It's been probably 6 weeks already and the extensions are still going strong! We shampoo, condition, hair brush and pony tail like usual and there are no issues! Also, if you are a millennial mom, you would appreciate the music selection :) They had TLC, no scrubs, Black Eyed Peas, Fergie just to name a few tracks. Just adds to the overall fun vibe the salon has to offer on a pamper day with my girls. The salon is immaculate and they have cute hair accessories for grab on your way out. It was quickly dried and styled in center or side parts, with lots of volume, lift and swing. Elegant and easy. Derek said he couldn't understand me. I should have left immediately. What I have now is an inexplicable cut, 2-5 " off, barely chin length, huge amounts of hair removed, wispy layers everywhere, and texturizing. He has activated a mass of waves and curls never seen before. From the front, the shape is a cartoonish wide diamond. From the sides, a fat wedge. This is the opposite of what is required for copious, European, fine, porous hair with a nape curl and minimal wave. Derek basically has created a White girl Afro. He somehow dried it beautifully, disguising the weird architectural structure by using a tiny brush on myriad narrow strands, drying them straight, and contorting them via elaborate manual sculpting techniques, product and nearly an hour of work. Maybe he planned to do twice-weekly blowdries on it. I have spent many days and dollars elsewhere experimenting with product, techniques and professional advice while attempting to cope. Derek pleasantly refunded the charges and apologized for the "inconvenience." This is far worse than inconvenient.

If it's mandatory might as well apply it to the overall cost. What about bad haircuts, should we tip for those too? What about people who can barely afford a haircut? Is it ok to make them feel unwelcome if they can't afford the minimum. Due to that sign I will not be back to this establishment.

I made it clear that I didn't want skin showing on the sides. Obviously there was a misunderstanding with Mellisa because there was no hair left after she was done. After I paid 45 dollars for a scalping I noticed a sign near the door that said if you were unsatisfied you could come back within 3 days to get it fixed. Not sure how they're going to reattach my hair but we will find out.
