This is my 2nd time at Nicolitalia, and they haven't let me down! The food is delicious, service is friendly, and the location is great. Here's what they do well: 1) Great food. The pizza is amazing. They have some unique signature pizzas, or you can stick to the classics. The crust isn't heavy, the sauce/cheese proportion is on point, and you can taste the quality ingredients. Don't feel limited to just pizza either. The salads and desserts are very memorable as well. 2) Service. It's a family business, and it feels like it...in a good way. They care if you're satisfied with your pizza. This ain't no Papa John's where they're just pumping out pizza all day without caring. Love is baked into each bite, and they want to make sure you've enjoyed your experience. 3) The location. The new location is great. Not out of the way, and parking usually isn't an issue. It's the best pizza in Provo/Orem. Eat here twice a month. But it's not comparable to good pizza in the east like NYC or Jersey. They could do so much better. They need to cook the pizza a little longer so the undercarriage of the pizza is more firm. The cheese is on the light side. Always have to order the pizza with extra cheese and always ask for it well done. About 50% of the time they listen and do this. The outside of the building currently says Nico's Pizza but it's the same thing. Don't let all the construction on Bulldog scare you off either. It's open! I used to go to the original Nicolatalia's Pizzeria on University Parkway when it was owned by the original Nick. It has changed ownership a few times and that has definitely shown in the food they serve BUT I just went again this week and I'm happy to say the Scarpa is as delicious as ever!! Scarpa are basically giant pizza dough balls with a depression in the center and then covered with mozz. I mean, how can you really go wrong? It's large amounts of bread and cheese. Delicious! Comes with marinara you can dip into. I always get the double which I believe is around $6.99. Totally worth it. They know what they are doing with that dough. It's crispy crunchy on the outside but it has a nice rise and open structure on the inside. Not bready at all and that's how it should be. I've had the pizza as well which I remember being tasty but I think most people are unfamiliar with the amazing ness that is the Scarpa. I must say that my second experience here was much better than my first almost a year ago. The staff was super friendly and the pizza I got was very unique and surprisingly delicious! I ordered the pesto chicken pizza which had a lot of greens on it. One topping was broccoli, which I wouldn't have thought to ever put on a pizza, but all I can say is YUM! I loved the thin crust and how the pizza had just the right amount of ingredients. After a slice or two it left me feeling good and not super gross and greasy. The pizza itself is always really good. But today I noticed no one is wearing hair nets, or gloves. The cashier is working with money they helping in the back with food with her bare hands and isn washing her hands. I don't find myself in Utah County particularly often these days, but circumstances led me down here one Wednesday for lunch. My boyfriend has often raved to me about this place, often mentioning his almost unhealthy love of the salad dressing, so I was pleased to finally get to try the spot out. I went up to the counter and decided to order the Zaco, because it is called a Zaco and it is so fun to say and type. Zaco. My Zaco had steak and cheese in it and I'm going to try typing Zaco as many times as I can in this review. Zaco. Others ordered salads and personal pizzas and other things that are not as cool to say as Zaco. Anyway, the people who own this place claim a Zaco is a cross between a calzone and a salad, but it's basically pizza dough with lettuce and salad dressing and meat and cheese in the middle. Zaco. I thought my Zaco was super tasty. I also had a side salad with my Zaco so I could sample the fine salad dressing. It was tasty on the salad, but even tastier in my Zaco. Zaco. This is the real deal. My husband and I stopped here on a road trip, and we would definitely return should we have the misfortune of being in Provo again. (Is this the time to mention that I'm a University of Wyoming alum who can't stand BYU?) The guys running the place were super friendly and cool. The ambiance was hip and felt very Eastern coast. And the pizza - how do I describe the crust - deliciously chewy inside, crispy outside, then piled high, I mean HIGH with savory meat toppings (we got the meat combo). The sauce was deliciously tomato-y, just the right balance. I don't eat cheese, but my husband's half looked appropriately chees-ified. You'll be pleasantly surprised by this local joint. But Nicolitalia is far superior to the other place. I talked my gal pal in to eating there the night before we ran a half marathon. We wanted something filling, but not too greasy. Nicolitaliana fit the bill to a "t"! And the price of our meal was unbelievable (in a good way)! They were offering a special for $6.99 that consisted of: a salad, pizza, & a drink. My girlfriend got the chicken pesto pizza. It had broccoli on it! And it totally worked. I ordered the Cucina Paradiso. It was awesome. The next day, when my husband asked me what type of pizza crust it was, I had a hard time explaining it. It wasn't NY style, Chicago style, or regular pan pizza... It was a crust, all it's own. I've been regularly visiting Nicolitalia since the 2nd week they were open. We went there on a Friday night, and were only couple in the place - now, almost 4 years later, I'm so glad to see Nick and the gang still in business. The other reviews speak truth about the salad dressing. I'm a college guy, it takes a lot to make me order a salad, even with a pizza. But, that dressing does it, and then some! The dinner salad is like $2, and worth it, just for the dressing. It's great as a salad dressing, naturally, but almost even better as a pizza dipping sauce! It's a creamy Italian that is out of this world! It's Nick's dad's secret recipe, and it shows. It's completely unique and amazing. The one thing that the other reviews haven't discussed properly is the pizza! I've tried 5 or 6 of the specialty ones over there, and none of them have been anything that I wouldn't get again - however, the winner, hands down is the Margarita (or Mahgarita, if you pronounce it with the proper Boston accent!). Get the Margarita pizza with your favorite toppings, and prepare for your ultimate demise. It's sometimes a bit greasier than others, but that never slows it down - it's some of the best pizza I've had in my entire life. Nick knows me by my first name - with just cause. I spent a considerable amount of time broke in NY. I lived in a basement studio that lost complete power every time the garage door to the complex was used. I walked to work in the snow everyday (uphill both ways) as a result of parking tickets, a boot, and towing fees that I couldn't pay. I worked 3 jobs and considered selling my eggs. It was great fun. During this time, I lived on popcorn and licorice (one of the perks of working at a video store), and the weekly lunch that was hosted by the pharmaceutical rep at the women's clinic (2nd job). But every once in a while, I could scrounge up enough change to buy a good, hot slice of NY pizza. Don't get me wrong, NY pizza is remarkably cheap. Like $2 or $3 a slice at most. But I was just remarkably poor. The thing about NY pizza is that, generally, the cheapest slice is better than the very best, most expensive pizza anywhere else. Part of this phenomenon is due the insane amount of pizza joints- like ten or more per block- and the need to compete with their quality and price. But the secret is in the crust. It is the same reason NY bagels are so dang good. By the way, I have inside information on this: My old roomate used to work in a bagel shop in NY and he told me why the breads of NY are so outstanding. I won't reveal why, but I suffice it to say that it is virtually impossible to recreate the texture and taste of NY bread in any other state than NY. The fundamental ingredient is found NOWHERE else in the world. With that said, I have since become a pizza snob. Try as I might, I cannot find a pizza slice that compares to what I've experienced in the dirty, greasy, but glorious stand-up-countered pizza joints of the NY city streets. So, Nicolitalia, don't feel so bad. You're good. You're even REALLY good to the unrefined tongue. But to me, you're just a slab of greasy cheese on some flat cardboard. If it makes you feel any better, I liked the broccoli on the veggie slices. Oh, and the sausage was good too. And the delivery guy didn't freak out when he saw me in my sweats. read more

I'm a really big fan of Nics. It's hands down the best pizza you can get in Utah county. I have yet to have anything off the menu that wasn't delicious. The crust is perfect, ingredients are very fresh and obviously all prepared in house. The salad dressing is as good as everyone says. My mouth is watering just thinking about Nics food. Price is excellent and the portions are proper. The restaurant itself is kind of "hole in the wall", but it works. Service is quick and the staff are very friendly. I really wish they had a couple beers on tap, it would be the icing on the proverbial cake. Provo needed real pizza, thanks to Nicoitalia you can get it. On a side note I ordered delivery once and my pizza was stuck to the lid of the box, ruining it. I called and without really having to explain that my pizza was a disaster they took down my name and told me the next time I came in they would take care of it.
