Coming from a pale with bubble tea shops everywhere, its hard to find a good bubble tea place. I made a few missions to go to Chatime because there isn't one near where I live and I heard so many amazing things about it. The hype is actually a fact and I love CHATIME. I bought one almond with coffee jelly, then came back again and ordered another one because it was fantastic. I really want to love Chatime because I work near the mall. But the tea simply doesn't taste good, royal seemed burnt tasting and jasmine was watery/too milky. I have tried adjusting sweetness and milk level. I can't speak for the powdered flavors. I'm always surprised to see it so busy! Setting: This is a grab and go setting. Suprisingly good boba! I come from Southern California, the mecca for boba outside of Taiwan. I came across this happy accident while walking through the Mall of America. Who would've thought that there would be boba in Minnesota, let alone good boba! I ordered the Jasmine milk tea... only after had I placed my order did I see the Tea Lattes - disappointment set it. Regardless, my tea wasn't amazing, but it wasn't bad. I tend to prefer the jasmine teas that are fragrant and this definitely wasn't the highest quality tea. What really sold me was the boba...the texture is perfectly chewy and super fresh. They actually give you a lot of boba. I absolutely love this place. Not only do the drinks taste authentic but they provide options to change the sugar intake. This is good for me since I'm trying to cut down on sugar. I get a different experience every time I stop by. On some Occasions there is no line but other times I find myself having to stand by the most indecisive customer. Who takes five mins to over a drink!? It's not Cha time fault but boy they could use a second register. I would recommend the signature milk tea with pearls. It's my default drink. Tons of walking and shopping could lead to extreme thirst!! I can tell you that from experience. Every time I'm at the Mall of America, Chatime is a must for my boyfriend and I. Their drinks range form teas to smoothies with your typical tapioca pearls and jelly toppings! You can also choose your sweetness level. They even have little imported Asian snacks if you need a little somethin somethin in your stomach. On top of all that, the customer experience I get from the employees is always enjoyable even when it's extremely busy! They are always ready to fill you up and make sure you leave hydrated and happy. Christine has the best smile and, not to mention, awesome hair!! I always leave wanting more. My go to drink is the Chai Milk Tea with pearls. The total is around $5 which is totally do-able. The explosion of the Tea Garden fanchise seems to have given birth to a few other tea places, including Cha-time at the Mall of America. I have to say that since living in Japan, I am far more fond of teas than I am coffee. It's nice to see a variety of options available, even if Im not a huge fan or pearls and jellies. The location of Cha-time is pretty good from a business standpoint. It's located in the Mall of America and gets plenty of traffic from the nearby food court. It's also below the cinema there making it a nice stop if you need a cold beverage after seeing a film. It's not the kind of place Id go out of my way for though... Driving to MOA is usually a hassle, and to go there just for tea when Tea Garden is more conveniently located just doesnt make sense. But if you are already in the mall, this is a great option. The interior is bright, but only has 5-6 seats. I only sampled one beverage so far, but I was impressed. I had the iced mango green tea. It was fresh, not too much ice, a good blend, and not sugary in any way. I definitely got the mango flavor but you could still taste the green tea. Definitely a solid drink. It was ready fairly quick & the young ladies helping me were friendly. I cant say this is any better or worse than Tea Garden. It seems pretty much on par with them minus the more convenient locations. Not a bad option if you are wandering MOA and need a liquid refreshment. I was pretty happy to see Chatime available at the Mall, though I had to look for it, since I apparently never came across it during the few days previously that I walked through it. Chatime is an international chain, so I would consider it the Starbucks of bubble tea places. There is another bubble tea place in the Mall, but I opted for Chatime over the other place, since Chatime seemed more legit comparatively. I opted for a large Hawaiian Fruit Tea Smoothie (which they charge 70 cents for) with Rainbow Jellies and Tapioca Pearls (50 cents each) and 50% sweetness. My total ended up being over $6. If you're asking me, this is a bit on the expensive side, and I was kinda annoyed that I even had to pay for tapioca pearls. This costs them next to nothing (especially in bulk), and it is usually included in the price at most bubble tea places. Anyhow, enough about the cost. Even at 50% sweetness, it was still plenty sweet. Coming from someone who has a terrible sweet tooth, that's saying something. I would probably cut it down to 25%. The bubble tea itself was fine, and it definitely tasted tropical. I just wasn't that impressed as I wish I had been. I would consider it somewhere in the middle of all the bubble tea places I've tried in my lifetime. Not the best or worst, just completely average (yes, I did just define what average meant). Hello Yelp, I have a confession to make. Everyone has a story about addiction, mines started through the release of Pokemon Go. On a hot summer day, I avoided the outdoors and was one of the pokemon trainers that ran around for a pikachu at the MOA. It was evident that Chatime became my go to place for food and hydration. Food/Drink: 3.5/5 They have a variety of Asian snacks and boba drinks. I always get the signature milk tea because everything else tasted like sewage water. They use a non-dairy creamer for their milk tea, I won't go into details why I appreciate it. You also have the option to choose your ice levels, boba amounts, and sweetness. Price: 5/5 This is important because the ~$5 dollars per drink can really add up. Over the course of one year, I have spent over 100s of dollars on the signature milk tea to earn myself the Dukedom of this establishment. I challenge you to take that badge away from me. Location/Area: 4/5 This is on the third floor of MOA. For those who aren't out of shape like I am, I recommend running up the escalator to make the trip more fun. Once you arrived, be warned. I loved stopping by this little shop! They had green tea pocky - something you can't find where I'm from. I was exciting to see that and a large array of different teas and flavors. My go-to drink is taro milk tea with boba. The flavor was super good, but I deducted one star because the powder was very prominent and had not dissolved. I'm not sure whether the water was not hot enough or there was too much powder, but I could not get the powder to dissolve, so unfortunately I had to throw half my drink away. Such a bummer because it tasted so good! I could just not get over the filmy layer collecting in my mouth. Chatime is the closest thing to authentic bubble tea/smoothies. Living in MN, Tea Garden is practically the only other bubble tea establishment, however the majority of their drinks are made with powder and syrups, and the fact that workers measure everything by eye never guarantees me a good drink regardless if I always order the same flavor. However, Chatime is here to the rescue! I'm a little embarrassed to say that I find myself coming to MOA more often not for shopping but for Chatime. I always order the matcha smoothie with red beans. I love that they put red beans on the bottom and even blend red beans in with the matcha powder to create a delicious smoothie! I've tried their boba too which is usually perfectly cooked-not too hard or soft. Only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that their menu is quite small, but I can't wait until they add more flavors (or i hope) since I know their actual menu in China and NYC has many more choices. I love Chatime and was oh-so-excited to learn there was one in the Mall lol America, but today, or rather just now, the bf and I got our favorite drinks, and they tasted rather lacking. Since it's my first time at this Chatime in Minnesota, I'm not sure if it was that they had just boiled (cooked? prepared?) the tapioca pearls, or if they just added too much water when they made the milk tea, but it was very watery - and I ordered less ice as usual and drank it immediately. It sadly wasn't as enjoyable as the one I always have in Chicago. Either way, business is booming and the line goes out the door, so expect a bit of a wait! My drink was scrumptious. My complaint is, as a first-time orderer (and bubble tea drinker), there are NO descriptions on their website or at their location (at least the one I visited) of their million different selections. And no nutrition facts (just claiming it's "healthy"....highly doubtful LOL). Some assistance or guide would have been extremely helpful... not to sound like a Karen!! That being said, I painstakingly decided on the lavender milk tea with "pearls" (still not sure why that's a "specialty" drink compared to their other milk tea flavors, but, whatever...) and 30% sweetened. It was so light, floral, and delicious with a hint of tea flavor. The pearls were firm but squishy and tasted like...brown sugar? Black licorice? I can't really conclude, but so yum. My girls had the strawberry milk tea with "popping" bobas and they had a light fruity flavor and a thin bursting texture. Super delicious, too. I am addicted and in love with the Matcha Red Bean Smoothie! I always stop by Chatime whenever I'm @ the MOA. I understand that their green tea (and all teas on the menu) are actually brewed fresh right at the store! You can really can taste the difference. It is the best Matcha smoothie or ice cream that I've ever had in my life and I'm originally from Japan where matcha ice cream and smoothies, red beans originated as desserts. The other teas are awesome too, all delish, made with real wholesome ingredients and sugar (not corn syrup)...but I my favorite is the Matcha Red Bean Smoothie! I can't express my adoration for this place. Each time I've been here the barista at the register has been super friendly and knowledgable. I'm the kind of person who asks a lot of questions when I go somewhere new, and they've always been able to answer all of mine. The menu is great. You can order anything from plain tea to bubble tea to milk tea to jelly and custards. Like what's a custard? And for each drink they ask how much sugar you want, based on a percentage system that is unique to them. So you can get a super sugary drink, or one that's nearly cal-free! I'm loving that. Very sweet drinks, but luckily they offer to customize how much sugar you can put in it. I had a four-day weekend at the Mall of America and we found this place in the first part of our weekend. On the first day, I tried the matcha mousse which was labeled as a favorite. The cashier recommended that I toned down the sugar level, which was how we were introduced to their sugar input chart. BUT - since I'm such a sugar-whore, I told them to keep it at 100%! Still delicious, but I may have (only slightly) regretted not taking their advice. Nonetheless, I found the matcha mousse to be very yummy and I highly recommend since you don't come across many drinks like this in the area. The second and fourth drink I had was the grapefruit green tea and the Hawaiian fruit tea. Both were very refreshing and quenched my thirst (no milk!). And also - just to cut down on all the sugar I had been eating the past weekend, I decided to go 50%-80% sugar and they were still really yummy. And lastly, I had their matcha red bean milk tea. This seems to be more of a convenient location than one where you can actually sit back and enjoy the drink while studying. There are barely any spots to sit in the store and it's too noisy anyway. Most people just order bubble tea and sip it while shopping in the mall which is ok as long as there isn't a super long line. Not even sure if coffee is available here as they don't have Dogwood here like they do at the Publika location on the UMN campus in Dinkytown. The stamp cards work for both places though. You don't have to order an insane amount to get a free drink for your loyalty. If you want to be conscious of your sugar intake you can customize the level of sugar. I usually go with no added sugar. I tend to like fruit blends like lychee but if it is your first time you might want to just try the classic bubble milk tea. read more

So my first time at this location, I had their chain tea latte and that was just amazing!! Not only was there a strong chai flavor, but I got a strong tea taste. This is deff one of their best drinks. After, I couldn't wait to go back! Came here a week later and was deff dissapointed. It's probs the Batista not knowing the proportions well enough. They should deff get trained better. I got their roasted milk tea because I love the smoky taste of this type of tea. I have this at other locations and they tasted better than this. When I got this, I was shocked because it tasted like watered down milk...like there was no taste. I had to even ask to see if this drink was supposed to have actual tea in it. Luckily the Batista helped me by adding more tea to it...but still even then my drink just lacked the tea flavor I had in my first drink. Just really really dissapointed because I had such a great first drink....hard to give them a good review. Because of my first drink, I'm willing to try other drinks. I felt a very welcoming vibe from all the workers everyone was super nice and the drinks were amazing! Awesome customer service and the bubble tea are great love how you can choose your own sugar level I know most places have high ranks in sugar.. and you don't always get to choose your own sugar so this was pretty cool! the only bad part about this place is that it's a bit small and a little crowded and the line are always stacked up.. But this place really deserve a bigger store and maybe more security cause I know a lot of their products are easy to steal I've seen kids try to put their hands in those tip jars or the snacks on the side of the store..I just feel bad for the workers and they deserve a lot more than that little corner!! YUMMY in the Tummy! a great alternative if you don't want to wait in the massive lines that tea garden has on the other side of the mall and if you like the milky teas rather than the fruity stuff Chatime hits the right spot just for that! I love their redbean drinks which are so addictive. The prices and cup sizes are similar but the variety of teas are again targeted towards more authentic then tea garden would be you still get the options of bubba, jellies and the additional redbeans. Additionally, the tea is good. Like authentic, creamy, not syrupy sweet, you can taste the tea good. Also, the pearls always come out just right (never too hard because they've been sitting there too long) so BIG thumbs up for that. To clarify, Chatime has been around asia and Australia for many years now, and this is closer to the original pearl milk tea that originated from Taiwan. The local ones here arent really the same imo, but might be more suitable to the american taste. The menu here is a bit lacking compared with the overseas ones, but Im glad to see you can still customize the amount of ice and sugar by percent - since that was a main selling point when they opened overseas. Lower the sugar to taste more tea - healthier. Pricing is cheaper than the overseas ones too. Support the authentic asian flavours and franchises! read more
