This used to be my "go to" spot, but a after my visit today I will no longer patronize this establishment. Ordered a salad to go, and they show you your order before you leave, which appeared to be correct. When I got home, I realized that under the layer of cheese, 2 items were missing from my salad. So I called up to the restaurant and spoke with the manager Kevin. Kevin "recited" their policy In which I have to bring the salad back to the store. I explained to him, that we were in the middle of a thunderstorm and I didn't want to drive back. I would eat the salad as is, but could I be compensated in some other way. Perhaps $2 refund back to my card, or a note in the book for my next visit. His response, the only way to be compensated was to bring the salad back. No salad, no compensation. Unfortunately, II made the drive back in the storm to bring him his salad and to get a refund. It's sad that they were willing to lose a loyal customer over pecans and bacon bits! What's even worst is it would have cost them more to replace my salad, then give me a $2 credit! SMH...... read more

Yes, I admit it I am definitely a fan of Nikola's! I have been to this establishment quite a few times. On Thursday evenings (after 7 pm) Nikola's has a jazz ensemble! Very very nice touch. While I sat there with my friends eating a Cobb salad (yummy) and drinking my Cabernet I was able to listen to the jazz band. Very nice. The only glitch was one of my friends didn't like the cole slaw, but she eyed my other friend's tossed salad when it came and I believe that she just wanted to change it to a tossed salad and the waitress obliged her! My Cobb salad was humongous and therefore was able to eat it for lunch the next day as well. All in all everything was great. The servers were also really really good. For one reason or another we had 2 servers and the one that really stood out was Sandra - she was awesome. Definitely I will go again - love the ribs!!!! read more

First off, the service at this restaurant is very good. Super friendly waiter and staff. But the food is super gross. I had fried cat fish. It was disgusting. I've had tons of fried cat fish for tons of different restaurants in my life, and this catfish was just the worst ever. All the sides I had were super gross. I had peach cobbler, and it was disgusting too. My waiter replaced the fish with ribs (on my request). Unsurprisingly, it was the worst ribs over ever had. This is definitely one of my favorite resraurants. It's a bit far from me so I don't as often as I'd like, but every time I go the food is fantastic. The prices are great especially considering the portions they give you. It'll be tough not to take home leftovers. I have yet to be disappointed by anything this restaurant has to offer. I placed a takeout order and the gentleman taking my order was very rude. If I wasn't ordering for my managers that already placed there orders ahead of time due to a meeting, I would have gone elsewhere. When I asked if they had beverages available, he told me no. I asked for chocolate chip, he said "we don't have any!" I got there to pick up my order and saw a lot of canned beverages and a stack of chocolate chips cookies. As he was showing me each order, which I appreciate, and then taping them up, I thought one was missing and item, he stuck his finger in the box to rip open the tape, very offend that I even questioned it. Hey this is on the company's dime, I must make sure they get what they ordered. I repeated as I did on the phone about my separate order, very rude cutting me off mid-sentence, yea I know. After I paid, and I was gathering my items, I wished for him to have a better day because it seemed as if his wasn't going so well. He respond with naw I am fine but with such a nasty attitude. I called to speak to a manager, was told by the female that answered she was the manager, I proceed to complain about the gentleman and she said oh hang on let me get you to another manager. Well, I was connected to the person that was calling to complain about. he asked me my name and then said oh yeah, I dealt with you let me get you someone else. I made my complaint she was very nice but all in all I really don't think anything is going to be done about my bad experience...other than Nikola's just lost some customers. I have been going to the restaurant for over 20 years never having a bad experience. Ordered takeout numerous times for my company during the pandemic. Used please, thank you and yes sir and still got the worst service I have ever gotten before. He made it such an uncomfortable experience and it is sad because they really have good food, but that gentleman doesn't need to work with the public. Why and how is this place still here?? My family and I came here last weekend to celebrate my grandfather's birthday. The party was large and I'm not sure if they don't take reservations for large parties, or if they just wait until the entire party is there to be seated, but we waited in the oh so small waiting area for 1.5 hours after the entire party was there to be seated. We watched several other parties of 7 or 8 be seated ahead of us, even though they arrived after we did. You'd think they would put a few of those parties of 7 or 8 together and we would have been seated, no problem. But alas, no such luck. We ended up leaving and taking our party elsewhere, but just before leaving, I asked the host for a business card or the name and phone number of the manager. Got the ribs, chicken and shrimp plate. The ribs were very succulent, the sauce was good-to-borderline-great, they kept the rib tip on... but it just wasn't the best actual rib meat I've ever had. Maybe not even a top 20. The broasted (read fried) chicken was bordering amazing. Nothing special about the breading, which usually makes the fried chicken for me... but the chicken itself was absolutely awesome. The fried shrimp were large and delicious. Went for dinner around 8pm on a Wednesday. There were no parking spaces left in the immediately close parking, but we were still seated in less than 4 minutes. Went on Sunday for Father's Day first visit for my parents. Unfortunately, there were many mishaps that occurred along the way. Of course, since it was Father's Day it was crowded. They do not accept reservations and then after you check in the don't give estimate wait times. Third, you have to remain in the building they will not come out in the hall or outside to call your name. So, as you can imagine it can get pretty crowded inside the foyer . Once seated we immediately ordered our drinks . Okay, now this is where it gets interesting. The young people at the next table were so loud. I don't mean only talking loud , they were yelling"where's are food, we're hungry ". Approximately 5 young men jumped up from their seats and went behind the waiters station, grabbing their own knives and napkins, and whatever else they wanted, they were opening the drawers and cabinets helping themselves. The staff saw them, said nothing, just pretended like the didn't. They then proceeded to run back to their seats. They were bouncing in and out of their seats ,running up and down the aisle. Very loud and disrespectful language . The wait staff saw them doing this , and said and did nothing to stop them. I think , they felt intimidated by these men animals. When the animals, I mean people received their food was the only time they were quiet. I even heard the staff say they were running back into the kitchen. So, finally when these animals, um sorry , people were finished eating, thank God , they decided to leave immediately. I guess the waitress wasn't quick enough to getting their trays and bags. They all got up from their table, while licking their fingers!!! Yes , they were literally sucking their fingers. They got up from their seats and went back to the waitress station to get their own takeout trays and bags. When the waitress , finally, spoke up, she kind of joked that if they kept that behavior up she would put them to work. They just kept right on being loud and helping themselves to anything they wanted behind the waitress station. The staff did nothing, just pretended like it wasn't occurring. So, when they loudly left, I asked to speak with a manager. The waitress and other staff members were all talking about their behavior , of course it was after they left. When the manager came over, I was telling him how bad the patrons at that particular table were, he tried to act like it didn't occur . He stated , if that was happening then you should have reported it when it was occurring. He tried to state he knew nothing of what has occurred. When I pointed out that his staff was aware, he started to state he wasn't aware, until our waitress stated, "yes, I told you what they were doing", he then just apologized for what occurred. I think he thought we (family) was trying to get something free, but that wasn't the case. I just felt like the people at that table should not have been allow to behave in that manner. Especially if their behavior affected patrons at other tables. I also felt it was the responsibility of the manager to make sure all patrons felt comfortable and safe during their stay at the restuarant . The food was good and portion size was large , service was good. Are bill for 5 people with drinks was 143 dollars ,and they had the nerve to add in an 18 percent gratuitous . They should have taken off the tip for the episode we had to endure. I do not think the management cares very much if the patrons had a pleasant visit or not , so visit the Nikola knowing that your opinion doesn't matter. read more

Was seat by the hostess, waited 15 minutes whiles waitress walk all around my table, and know greeted me or asked to take my order. I had the bus boy get the manager. He comes to the end of the aisle and I waved my hands to let him know I needed to see him. He hold up his finger to motion for me to wait some more. I have wasted 20 minutes waiting for nothing. One of the words advertised on its storefront, "cocktails". I would like for them to remove that. I ordered a frozen margarita and received a margarita on the rocks. I sent that back for the frozen one, it tasted like tequila and triple sec only. I sent that back thinking I would just try a basic strawberry daiquiri instead (surely they couldn't mess that up). BIG MISTAKE. It tasted kinda like bubble gum, but I figured since I had already sent back the margarita I would just suffer through it all the while confused about its taste. When I received the check I noticed it said, "smoothie w/liq". That explained the strange taste. To add insult to injury, the food was somewhere between okay and not good at all. For some reason, when I think of Nikola's I picture the huge buttery garlic bread. Clearly this is the main attraction of Nikola's, but it definitely perks my interest. Nikola's has been around for years, mainly because barbecue is super yummy. Dining here has always been a casual experience, although I have met many family members up here for formal holidays and such. The restaurant is pretty large (it was recently remodeled), so it's pretty good for groups. There is also a banquet room available for private functions. The staff here is pretty attentive and timely. I don't recall having too many complaints, but parking can be a mission...especially during the holiday times. read more

We'd heard about this place for some time and had a chance to try it at the tail end of a busy lunch hour on a Tuesday. We opted for the broasted chicken-for-two--an entire chicken, two salads, two orders of broasted potatoes and two, huge pieces of garlic bread...all for 14.50! You'll pay a few bucks more if you want all white meat, or to sub a mini-Greek or mini-Julienne salad with your meal, but it's still a great deal. We had plenty of food for lunch, with plenty of leftovers to take home for dinner that night. The chicken was tender and certainly on a par with Chicken Shack (which we've gone to for years for broasted chicken dinners). I wasn't too wild about the Greek salad, but loved the potatoes and garlic bread. My dining companion had a regular salad with honey mustard dressing, which he liked. He also tried some of the BBQ sauce on his potatoes and said it had a nice, smoky flavor. I would have preferred brewed ice tea, rather than the powered stuff they serve here. Service was quick and friendly, and the print-out of the bill included a helpful tip calculator that told you what 15 or 20 percent of the bill would be. I attempted to dine here for the first time in a while with my dad and my husband. On the way in we saw some of our family members heading out so we stopped to talk before being seated. During that time I observed one of the servers coming out of the swinging door with a salad that had a piece of garlic bread on it. The server took his bare hand and placed it on the bread and put it on a separate plate then served it to a guest. When we were seated I told a different server what happened and asked for the manager. There seemed to be a huddle that took place then the person who I thought was the host came over. I asked him was he the manager and he said yes. When I told him what occurred he was very nonchalant and dismissive. At that point we left and went next door to Shields. We went on a Saturday. The place was slammed but we were able to get a table in about 20 minutes. The server did everything you would expect but it was obvious he was really rushed with all the tables he was covering. It took about ten minutes to get our check at the end of the meal. As everyone else has said, the food was in enormous portions. All of it was very good. I would recommend it to a friend with a caveat about calling it "barbeque." For those looking for barbeque, be aware that the food here is broasted not barbecued. In Michigan, barbecue seems to mean it has barbecue sauce on it (which Nikola's does). If you're looking for anything smoked like you might find in the Carolinas or Texas, this is not the right restaurant. Instead, you might want to try Slow's down in Detroit. read more

First let me say the sauce is awesome. The ribs Meh. 3 of us had dinner here, 2 of us including myself had the full slab of baby-back ribs. The portions are large, but the ribs are tough. Baby-back ribs should pull apart easily and melt in your mouth. The other person at our table with ribs had the same experience. The third member of our party had Pork Chops which were OK. but again a little tough. I am not sure if our waiter was having a bad day or what, but he had a bad attitude. When we asked what he recommended, said he spends too much time there and does not eat there. Wow, maybe we should have left before he took our order. With your entree you choose 1 hot side and 1 cold side, I am an extremely picky eater and did not see anything on the cold sides I would eat. I asked the waiter if it would be OK. to substitute 2 hot sides instead. Request denied. He did offer to charge me for an additional hot side, despite not ordering a second side from the cold side. The worst customer service ever. Large parties do not ruin your day. The food was 2 hours late it was cold and the manager would not give us any discounts. He humiliated one of our party members by stating if you don't pay for your food he would call the Police. Who said that she wouldn't pay for her food?????
