Yes, we're big fans of Niko's Grille, going back a long way. The food is always delicious, the wine is great, the coffee is the best in town, the staff is top shelf, and the family that runs it is like, well, family! Beyond all that, the restaurant is doing a great job handling orders during these trying times. I just had one of my favorite meals, Spanakopita, (my husband had Baked Spaghetti with Chicken) and, except for the travel time involved which cooled it down a few degrees, it was just as delicious as it was sitting in the restaurant with a bunch of friends. Can't wait until we get back to some sense of "normalcy" and can resume our old lives, but, until then, we'll be very satisfied with ordering from Niko's! Keep up the good work, Stelios! read more

Terrible. I should have written a review last time I went to this restaurant and left feeling like I had been taken advantage of. The food is not good, the portions are small and the prices are not great for what's happening over there. However, our experience this morning took this place to an all-time low. They messed up an order by putting a side order of sausage as a topping in the omelette. The waitress recognized this error when bringing the food out and told my friend "let me know if this is a problem." We were hungry and it wasn't the biggest deal, so he ate it. Yet hey didn't bring out a side order of sausage for him or try to correct the mistake at all. So. We finish breakfast and go to pay. Here's the situation: the price of a meat topping in an omelette is $1.50 while a side order of sausage is $2.25. We simply ask that the price of the side order of sausage be charged as a topping because that is what they gave us. Niko would not have it. For literally 5 minutes he argued that it was the same price and that he would not change it. He even went as far to state that the price depends on "how many sausages there were in the omelette." Are you kidding me? They screwed up the order and then insisted that we pay for their error. I don't understand - we did not get a side order of sausage, it came as a topping the omelette. I don't understand why that's not what we should pay for. Anyways, I know it is only 75 cents but it is the principle of the thing. This experience shows Niko is a stingy and inconsiderate restaurateur. The kicker - he agreed to take the 75 cents off the bill after a lot of arguing and then when my friend went to pay - he immediately grabbed the ticket and changed his mind charging the extra price. Not kid friendly at all. Owner's wife literally yelled at us for allowing our 4 yr old to use a fork...because she was going to scratch the table. Actually, she was going to eat her pancakes. Embarrassing, disheartening and really bad customer service. Too bad bc other visits previously had been pleasant with our children present. Our daughter was so upset and couldn't figure out why she was yelled at- and neither could we. Apparently some kid at some pt scratched a table so now all "suspicious" activity, such as eating with utensils, is cause for this lady to freak the hell out when the place is full. Breakfast here was mediocre at best and actually overpriced. Considering it is one of the only places in Lexington to eat breakfast, they don't have much competition, which is why I am guessing they still have 3.5 stars. We were served by a woman (owners wife I believe) who was very rude and said that "special orders" we're not allowed. Really? Since when did I enter a transporting time machine taking me back to 1980 communist Russia....goodness. Anyway, the food was basic breakfast fare, nothing special, nothing special about this place in general. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't really recommend it at all. If you want a good breakfast in Lexington, go to the Redwood Family Restaurant or Waffle House. You will receive better, friendlier service and lower prices, and the food will actually taste good! read more

Been there twice while visiting friends. Food good both times. Some reviews say owner is rude? Always friendly and joking. My only beef and Im hesitant to say this, when I put my bill on the card, the owner asked if I wanted to leave a tip on the card. WILL PEOPLE PLEASE STOP DOING THIS! A tip is between you and your server and is based on service, not the guilty attiude from the cashier. I tipped a bit over 20% because our bill was 24 and some change. The owner shot us a look like we were being cheap. Asking how much you want to tip instead of you filling out the reciept is not only rude but makes you tip more than you might have because you dont want to look like a cheap A***. read more

Good Greek diner. Saganaki is good. Fries were very good. Salad fresh and very tasty. I'd grade it higher but my main dish, the gyro, was greasy so disappointing. Good variety more than just Greek on menu, and the host was friendly and sincere about our service and time. read more

HORRIBLE! So rude; I would never go back nor recommend that anyone give their money to this place. I had been there previously with my parents (who live in town) and have always found the food average or less than average, but there are not a ton of choices in this small town. A family group of 5 were going out for dinner, and had a booth set up with a two-top added on the end to fit all of us. Instead of having one of our group stuck on the end and being left out of the group, we moved an extra chair over so that 3 were sitting in the booth and two of us on the end table. The owner/manager--a very large Greek man, I believe Niko himself--came over and started yelling at my husband to move over to the booth, and almost yanked the chair out from under him. Initially we thought he may have been joking, as the manner in which he spoke to us was so appalling. Unfortunately, he was serious, and continued barking that he needed the chair for other customers (while the restaurant was less than 1/2 full). If I had been there alone or with my husband only, I absolutely would have walked out of the restaurant right then. Niko's has atrocious customer service and obviously don't know the appropriate manner in which to speak to their clientele, particularly repeat customers (as my parents are regulars). The owner needs a serious lesson on how to run a business and be respectful to the people that are keeping them in business. Other than that, the food was only mediocre. read more

Fresh, tasty, and friendly. We were just passing through town on a road trip. Having just been burned by a local spot in the last town, we were on the brink of going chain until we took a look at Niko's web page and were drawn in by the friendly tone and evident pride in ownership. Our party of 5 had a lot to be happy about: Fried calamari: crispy and not overly chewy, as good as anywhere Lamb kebab - absolutely delicious. Rice just fine. Spanokopita - spinach-loaded, buttery, not too greasy Greek salads that came with entrees were just the right size, not too tiny. Burgers were actually cooked as ordered --Rare! Hard to find these days. Cheesecake: delicious filling, with a sweet creamy topping that some liked and others found too sweet. Chocoloate mousse cake: light and not too sweet - didn't feel like we just got a mouthful of jello pudding. Would get again. Enjoyed our tableside chat with Niko who came back twice to check on us, and our server April who was friendly and efficient. Felt like we met the entire staff on the way out. Would return anytime we're back in Lexington. read more

We ate here for lunch on our way out of Lexington. We got an appetizer of pita bread topped with feta, tomatoes, onions, olives, and olive oil. It was good, but dinky for the price. My husband got the Greek salad, which he said was good. I got the veggie plate, and the veggies of the day were green beans (good), creamed spinach (ok), corn (ok), and you get to choose a form of potatoes- I picked french fries (really good). That comes with a tiny dollop of mashed potatoes in the center of the plate with 4 tiny toast triangles separating everything (?). The mashed potatoes were so good I ordered an additional side of them. The plate also comes with pita bread. This wasn't the best food I've ever had, but they had a lot of variety, and it was tons better than Macado's! read more

Several locals recommended this place, so I finally gave it a try the other day. I ordered the gyro which came with fries and cole slaw. The lettuce and tomatoes on the gyro were soggy and borderline hot which was so disgusting. The gyro itself was so-so. The fries were soggy, but if it had been hot and crisp, it would've tasted pretty good. The cole slaw had too much mayo. Overall, this place is just alright; nothing special and I've definitely had better. read more

2.5 My brother just moved down here to go to Washington and Lee so of course we had to check out some restaurants. After setting up his apartment we were starving and walked to the first place we found. That happened to be Nikko's grille. The food and service was decent and the atmosphere was ok it reminded me of a small town diner without the huge menu and in need of some updating. read more

Ordered to go food and it was excellent. The chili was awesome and so was the Greek salad. I could tell the food was homemade. Wasn't thrilled about the salad dressing but the rest of it was great. It is the 2nd time I've eaten here and I will be back when I'm back in town. read more

Niko's is a great place to eat in Lexington. The food is more than decent with quite sizable servings--I sometimes need to take left-overs home with me in a box, in fact. Prices are also very acceptable, considering quality and portion size. And despite what some might say about Niko being less than polite, he's a fine host and a friendly person from the few interactions I've had with him. I have never had a bad experience here. As for the person who was "unsettled" by Niko's reaction to his messy children: Don't expect everyone in society to think your ill-behaved kids are as cute and exceptional as you likely think they are. Just because you want to have a night out as a family doesn't mean that everyone else needs to forego their evening's pleasure on your account. If your precious children can't behave properly, get a babysitter when you want to dine at a real restaurant. Or go to Chuck-E-Cheese where other patrons (not to mention proprietors) can expect a herd of loud, messy children and their over-indulgent parents. And finally, paying a large tab does not excuse anyone from subjecting a whole restaurant to that nonsense. read more

This is NOT a family friendly restaurant. Niko and his staff are incredibly rude. My husband and I have been there several times with our kids because my parents are frequent customers, but we will not be going back after today. The food is mediocre at best--certainly not good enough to put up with continued harassment. Recently, my husband was approached by a waiter because of how he was sitting. He has problems with his knees and occasionally sits with one knee bent and his foot tucked under him. The waiter told him he had to sit with both feet on the ground. What nerve! Today, while we were waiting to order, my 7 year old was occupying himself by playing quietly with his flatware. Suddenly Niko approached him and asked him if he thought he was a tough guy. My son had no idea how to respond to that. Niko then told my son that if he marked up his table with the flatware he would pay for it. (And no, my son was doing nothing to the precious table). My husband and I didn't think this was funny, and I'm not sure it was meant to be. My son was mortified. I grew up in Lexington. There are many other better places to visit, with better service. Reubens times two for our lunch....SOOOOO yummy! Fries soooo yummy and hot and fresh!! Cole slaw good but served in a tiny dixie cup...could use a bit more....but soooo yummy! Great Greek food! I had the sampler platter and loved everything. The hummus was really good. It had something extra that I really liked. Came with a lot of food and a lot of pitas (and homemade) Most Greek places only give you 2-4 pitas..this place had like 8. The pork was very flavorful. Both the spinach pie and grape leaves were good. For dessert, I had the baklava, which was excellent. Had a lot of extra syrup on top, which I like. Oh and the piece was huge! Most places give small two bite pieces. Owner and waitstaff were very friendly and accommodating to our 10 month old. The owner even came over and played with her and her cousin! What a great addition to Lexington! Will be back next time I visit! read more

I was glad to see the post below from the gentleman with the daughter who dropped food on the floor. This place is downright hostile to children. I live in Charlottesville, I was in town visting a friend for the day with my two year old son. After we were seated, the waitress came to the table and told us that the owner would come over and "start barking" if "the child" didn't stop PLAYING WITH THE SUGAR PACKETS on the table. I was in shock, so it took me a moment to process this-- I had never before been treated like a naughty second grader at an establishment where I was a paying customer. The waitress came back a moment later and asked to take the sugar packets away. We got up and left at that point. I gave the owner's wife a dirty look on the way out and told her I had never been treated like that in my life. She said that if I was going to "take my baby out in public," I had to be "considerate." My kid was not screaming or bouncing off the walls-- he has done these things before, mind you, in other restaurants, and I've never had anyone talk to me like this. I have no idea how the food is, but it appears overpriced. read more

Having tried a few of the Greek selections I came to update. It was all very tasty and my wife agrees. I would come here again if in the mood for gyros etc... I guess this place is pretty hit or miss it would seem. I had a cup of the soup of the day, Beef Barley, and it was wonderful -- I would say it tasted like a warm hug! My boyfriend had the gyro meal, which was very tasty, but not the best he's ever had. The only real issue we had was that my boyfriend tried to substitute his coleslaw for fries and the waitress said that was fine, but when his order came he did not get what he thought he had ordered. The waitress claimed that the gyro meal came with coleslaw, and either a side of fries OR rice, and that you couldn't substitute the coleslaw, which was not what she and my boyfriend had agreed upon previously. So he ended up with coleslaw and rice, no fries at all... She wouldn't even acknowledge that there was an error. It put a real damper on the yummy food to know that a mistake made in the explanation of the waitress was deemed to be our fault, even though we double-checked what we ordered to be sure (he was really looking forward to fries!). Overall, we had a positive experience other than the waitress refusing to acknowledge her mistake. I would definitely recommend the Beef Barley soup, but maybe not the customer service :( read more

We have had lunch there a couple times. I always get a gyro. They are pretty good. We had supper once. We both ordered one of the the specials that they bring to your table and show you. Neglected to ask the price. Yow! Over 40 dollars for mostly rice and veggies with a little meat for 2 people. And we drank water and didn't have dessert. It was good though. First time in town and this restaurant was recommended. What a great find!! We were seated immediately, greeted with a friendly smile and felt like we were visiting family.
