Nil's Mediterranean Cuisine was a great experience from start to finish. We ordered a little bit of everything, and every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The Mediterranean sandwiches were loaded with tender meat, topped with melted cheese, and served with crispy fries and a rich tomato dipping sauce that tied everything together. The falafel bowl was colorful and packed with fresh vegetables, pickled cabbage, peas, and herbs, making it both refreshing and filling. The standout for me was the grilled octopus. It was cooked perfectly--tender with a nice char--and served over creamy hummus with caramelized vegetables that added just the right amount of sweetness. The pasta was another winner, coated in a rich, flavorful sauce with mushrooms, parmesan, and fresh herbs, making every bite satisfying. The portions were generous, the ingredients tasted fresh, and you can tell the kitchen puts care into every plate. After a typical week of concisely expressing my professional work frustrations to my picture-less, new office wall; I decided to head downtown and see if some culinary therapy would let me relax. Sometimes that's a good bet, sometimes I end up at Taco Bell after being severely disappointed. Thankfully, that didn't happen after Nil's. As is tradition, I made my first stop at Dram and Draught to have a delicious whiskey beverage and some conversation. Nil's, which took the place of another restaurant whose name escapes me, recently opened and was given a cautionary endorsement by my favorite bartenders. Since they make my obnoxious drink order taste like distilled hopes and dreams, I trusted them on the recommendation. When I walked in, I was pleased to see the restaurant was full. Families, dates, some going better than others, and a mostly full bar were all good signs. The decor hadn't changed much since the prior restaurant left, but that's not an issue. I don't go to restaurants to pretend the decor is relevant or that I have any ability to do better. I took a seat at the bar and was immediately welcomed. The bartender handed me a wine list that was pleasantly a few steps above basic, which was nice. My initial impression of the menu was that it was well thought out. My only issue was the number of dishes that have some sort of tree nut. Having a slight nut allergy limited my choices severely and immediately put "cross contamination" at the forefront of my thoughts. However, the Boquerones en Vinaigre (marinated anchovies) and grape leaves were an immediate option. The boquerones were perfectly done. The dish was exceptionally light and flavorful without the over-salted punch that you can sometimes get with poor quality. The grape leaves were not great for me. They were a little too tightly rolled, colder than I'd like, and tatziki/yogurt sauce lacked the flavor that I would expect. However, I would still recommend them if some of the other small plates are too adventurous for you. For the main dish, I got the salmon which is always a go-to when trying a new place. If you can do salmon well, you can probably do other things well, too. I've been to more than a few places where the Derek Zoolander School of Cooks who can't Cook Good should have been the primary name, but I digress. The dish was perfect. The salmon was correctly cooked to order (medium) and the potato puree with veggies were both well done. To be honest, I would eat those potatoes off of anything. They were excellent. Dessert was the orange cake. It was very tasty, but the cake and creme fraiche were completely masked by the orange marmalade placed on top. It felt too sugary and overpowering. Not what I'd expect from a mediterranean dessert, but after removing the marmalade... perfection. Service was excellent. Bar was friendly and comfortable. Clientele seemed happy. I didn't wind up at Taco Bell so, I'll definitely go back. read more

Used to be Pinpoint restaurant. They've done a nice job changing the interior, using lighter colors. Seems to have more seating, particularly for 2 people. Made a reservation online. Everyone was friendly when I arrived with my 2 toddlers and checked on me throughout my lunch meal. I'm glad they gave my kids crayons and a coloring sheet to distract them for a few minutes. They sat me in this nice kind of corner booth seating spot where I had enough room to park my stroller. The booth seat height was a bit taller than usual, but at least it was high enough for my toddler to sit on to reach the table. My other toddler used their high chair. We started off with the mushroom burrata, which was amazing. All of the different flavors from the balsamic reduction, chipotle aioli, olive oil, and truffle burrata perfectly complemented each other. My toddlers enjoyed the matchstick sweet potato fries. For my entree had the kofte platter. It did not impress me as much as the appetizer, but was still tasty. The kofte beef meatballs were the best of the dish. The pickled red cabbage could have been more pickled-softer and with a stronger vinegar taste. Also had the "kids meal" with a choice of protein and either fries or rice. Went with the shoestring fries and gyro (lamb). My toddlers loved the shoestring fries -I liked that they were not very salty. I thought the grilled lamb was good, but sadly, my toddler did not think so. Oh well, more for me! Overall, had a good experience and I would come back again. read more

First time with 3 real foodies. Greek is not my favorite but there were enough choices. I chose the gyro bowl which was good. Sizable. Not wrapped in pita, but they do give you lots of pita. My main was the steak and frittes. Steak was mediocre and tough, and the frittes were out of a Costco bag. I have my French fries with Ranch dressing and they did not have any. The smashed salmon was great and my 3 other foodie pals said the Greek offerings were terrific. The beer tap was broken and they do not carry an IPA for you Gen Zers. The real drawback is the acoustics. It is NOISY! I doubt there is much they can do as it is an old building, maybe a carpet would help. Service was so-so as they brought the check as one of us was still eating. The place is pretty new so my feeling is they will have time to fix the dents. Would I go back? Maybe for the salmon and the lamb shank which a fellow diner loved. read more

Arrived ahead of our reservation and enjoyed some well crafted cocktails. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Nice open and a clean appearance in main dining room, however like many Wilmington restaurants in historic high ceiling buildings, the noise level was loud and our server had to go to each side of table so our party of four could hear. I recommend adding cushions to the dining chairs, though the pleather wrapped bench seats were cozy. Terrific menu and variety. Have to come back to try more of the authentic Turkish and Med. Tapas. Our server very attentive yet patient. It was unfortunate that she didn't ask if we wanted desert or ask if we wanted the desert menu or after dinner drink. It won't be long until this gem is the talk of the local restaurant scene! I went there with my daughter last week and we were super impressed. The vibe and ambience are terrific. We enjoyed the background music and the interior. The servers were very nice. But it was the food that really captivated my attention. We ordered the falafel and smokey eggplant to start and it was delicious. I could've eaten another plate of this! For our mains, I had the Nil's Platter with chicken and my daughter ordered the Quinoa Bowl. I really love this place and cannot wait to come back. I would give Nil's 5* and I hope I can for my next visit, but we felt the service was too slow. For example, we went midweek and the place was half full when we were seated. It took over 15 minutes to be greeted by anyone. Once they tighten up the service, this place could become the crown jewel of the Wilmington food scene! read more

I was excited to try Nils. It is in a convenient location. The atmosphere is nice and the bar is pretty. The food was presented well but was just ok. We got the cucumber salad, hummus and kofke platter. I thought the cucumber salad was going to be similar to a shirazi salad. It wasn't as described on the menu and didn't taste authentic. The rice on the kofke platter was really good and was my favorite part of the meal. The service was poor. Our finished plates were sitting for a while and the waitress was missing for part of the night. My husband liked it better than me. I will give it another chance -maybe they need to get the kinks out. read more

Service and hostesses were horrible. They all could not wait to close. The manager even was careless with the fact that all the service people and hostesses could not wait to get rid of all patrons and close up shop. We had to beg for beverages and even water. It is sad to think this what going out means and we will definitely not be revisiting this new place again. No accountability and no responsibility. How will this place survive ? Hey Wilmingtonians - don't eat at Nil's Mediterranean cuisine. It was truly the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. There was hair in my food and my mom's meal was delivered a full hour later than the rest of the table with 0 apologies or care. Super sad as we were celebrating her still working creating beautiful gardens in her 80th year. The food was flavorless and overcooked as well as overpriced. Seating was uncomfortable and it is very loud inside. Despite having a reservation we waited forever for anyone to even acknowledge our table. In the end, we asked to talk to someone who could help and were told that wasn't possible. After demanding that we be able to talk to management we waited another half an hour for the manager to finally come to our table. She was extremely rude and offered no explanation or help. The staff seem miserable and the kitchen is not functioning properly and they told us as much. It's a shame that such a terrible restaurant is in that beautiful spot. So many great memories at Deluxe. A much better restaurant belongs there. I truly hope they go out of business soon. read more

We just had the BEST meal at Nils Mediterranean in Wilmington NC! We have been searching for a good Mediterranean place and we're so happy to hear that they recently opened on Market Street.
