This place is a great place to hang with friends. I've been here five times, twice on pride bar crawls. It is a cool bar that draws an eclectic crowd. They have a variety of seating options, including some group-friend booths. On my last visit, I sat at the bar and ordered a flight of beer. Tony the bartender was very patient with my request for a flight of local beer with no IPAs or hoppy beers. He picked out: 2: Wrightsville Beach Orange Crush, 3. Waterline Kolsh, 4. Teaches Peaches, 1. Watermelon Dragon Fruit Burst. I was familiar with the first three and loved them. I jokingly refer to Wrightsville Beach Orange Crush as creamsicle beer. It isn't too sweet, but the Orange flavor is quite strong. The Waterline Kolsh is light and very easy to drink. The Teaches Peaches is one of my favorites due to its light fruity flavor. The Watermelon Dragon Fruit Burst was a wildcard in Tony's lineup. This sour was a refreshing way to mix up my beer tasting. My friend also got a flight and didn't like one of the beers he chose. Tony swapped it out for a different beer as soon as I told him and the new one was well-received. My favorite part of this visit was that Tony decided to bring me a sample of the 8. Firestone Walker Mind Haze, because it was a non-hoppy IPA and he thought I might like it. It wasn't my fave, but I really appreciated the opportunity to try something new. I snacked on free popcorn all during my visit. The popcorn machine is in the back. Also in the back are single-stall restrooms. Tavern Law has an A+ in my book because they have great local beer on tap and they are gay friendly. read more

Great bar in downtown. Tavern Law is slightly off the high pedestrian traffic areas you see on Front Street. This makes it a much more approachable and laid back bar. Bartenders are very good and the prices are decent. Most of the time, I see the same locals in Tavern Law when I go. Highly recommend. read more

This is a great place to grab a cold one and enjoy a"neighborhood bar" feeling. Cool how they have a wall with chalkboard slates which identify the various and large selection of draft beers, almost all exclusively from local craft beer breweries. No matter where you sit, at bar or in very nicely upholstered booths, plenty of TVs to watch. Also a variety of games, darts, giant jenga, video golf, etc. to play. FREE popcorn and hot dogs on Sundays with an actual hot buffet during football seasons, with two NFL team jerseys given away through lottery each Sunday. Love the upscale look yet cozy atmosphere. Nice to see a local business that emphasizes local breweries. Had a hard time deciding which of the 16 drafts to chose from. If your looking for a artisan cocktail that is refreshing and delicious this is the place to go!!! Ask for the Lavender Lemonade or the cucumber gimlet and you won't be disappointed. Come by on Sunday for a catered lunch by Chef Tony, the food and wings are always amazing, they raffle off Jerseys after the 1 o'clock and 430 games. They are dog friendly as well which is perfect for me, however I would not recommend bringing your dog on Sunday during football season because this place fills up. Hubs and I were in the market for checking out a new spot with some friends a couple weeks ago. We put our name on the never-ending waiting list at at a popular downtown eatery a couple blocks up from Tavern Law and decided to wander around looking for a place to have a pre-dinner drink. We wound up at Tavern Law and I instantly fell in love. If you give me the option of a low-key, locals' bar that is very open and welcoming and has a cool vibe, I'm going to chose it every time and become slightly obsessed with it for a while. Just so happens I ended up coming here three nights in a row! The room is long and skinny and the bar stretches most of the length of one side. On the opposite side, crescent shaped boots are situation facing the bar and the rest of the room, so you never feel closed off from anyone or the action. There is a large natural edge standing bar in the center of the room for those that choose to mix and mingle. Most notably would be the small stage in the back corner of the bar. I haven't been when they have live music, but I would assume this is where the band would set up shop. However, any other night they have giant jenga and Connect 4 to play! We played for about 30 minutes while we sipped on cocktails prior to dinner. It was the perfect place to "waste time," although I don't think time was wasted at all ;) During the 2017 football season, they have a football party every Sunday! Great laid back place. Went there on a Wednesday night to watch college hoops and drink local beer. It excelled on both counts.

Football season is upon us my friends and that means one thing in our household. Cold beer and fantasy football along with gameday jerseys and wings!! My company fantasy football league drafted early this year but they decided to have the draft at Tavern Law and it was the perfect spot for a draft. They reserved the big area that is kind of raised towards the back of the bar with a sectional type seating but with a bench instead. There are very large TVs and the best part? They have local craft beers of draft. They also have a nice selection of bottles. The owner was working behind the bar which I feel like is rare to see but he is wonderful (Chris) and used to serve us "sex on the beach" drinks all night at his precious place of employment. He has plenty of experience bartending and this atmosphere in tavern law is amazing. It can get a little loud in there but what more could you ask for during football season?! Last year I would walk by this place on Sundays and they would be cooking burgers so I'm not sure if they will be doing that this year but I will be coming back for sure!! read more

This business carries craft beer on draft and in bottles from all over NC including many Wilmington breweries like Wilmington Brewing Company and Waterline Brewing. I've always loved this space because of the open doors on the front, but never really cared for the bar inside. Tavern Law has finally changed that.
