Got orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, chicken fried rice, wonton with meat and an egg roll. I opened one wonton and it literally had a pea size bit of meat in it. The orange and sweet and sour chicken were bland. The chicken fried rice had no flavor at all and the chicken was just teeny tiny cubes of boiled hard chicken. The egg roll had some strange seasoning inside that made it taste like pumpkin pie or something. Worst part... we both were stuck on the toilet afterwards. read more

My go to take out place! Very good "Old School" Chinese food with authentic vegetables and ingredients!. They have three tables for those that want to eat there but primarily it is a take out and delivery place. Very delicious food and great inexpensive prices. I love the Pork Wonton Soup and Nim Chan's Egg Rolls! The Egg Rolls are the real thing (not the dinky spring roll type) and you get two large ones either whole or cut in sections for under $5.00! Great deal and a meal in itself! I also love the Chicken Chow Mein (includes been sprouts just like in the old days! ) over Pan Fried Noodles. Hard to find on most menus at other places. The noodles are not the soft mushy kind! They are wok cooked to perfection! I highly recommend this little gem of a place! What?!! No reviews yet? There sure were a lot of hungry customers here yesterday. This lil place is at Western Ave. & 25th Street, conveniently right on my route home from Pedro. It's primarily take-out, however there are 3 booths if ya wanna dine in. They accept credit cards but no checks. I considered awarding 5 stars but I really don't eat Chinese food all that often, and I'm not sure how Nim Chan's would rate among those who know what they're talking about. Admittedly, I do not.............but: it was pretty darn good food & I got a whole big box of it for 12 bucks. See the photo. My take-out was handed to me in a big carton, haha! This is value, I tell ya. How the heck do they make a profit? 'Cause the meat portions were plentiful. I am still eating it! Haha it was last night's dinner, today's breakfast and lunch, and there's enough left for another dinner tonight..... I got chicken lo mein & house special egg foo young (w/shrimp, chicken & BBQ pork). I have never had such meaty egg foo young, and it rocked. The chicken lo mein was like orange chicken tenders, cooked to perfection with a slightly crispy breading. The menu had so many choices I pondered for about 15 minutes before ordering. Then I had to wait my turn for my food and there were several people ahead of me. That's when I discovered Village Pub Sunday par-tay time, hehe. Hell, Harbor Village Plaza has everything! Including a nice big free parking lot with easy access from both Western & 25th Street. I'll go back to Nim Chan's for sure. Nim Chan's on Western in San Pedro is my stand by for late Chinese take out. Came here a few weeks ago for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. The place is very small (like three tables small) but it's about take out so no biggie. Noodles and fried rice here are totally solid, noodles could use a touch more soy but not complaining because I just dump more on at home. Owners are friendly and they are open till 9pm. Parking is tight but manageable most nights. Overall solid Chinese grub for decent prices, do it! read more

Wow! How this place stays in business with prices so low, is beyond me. The food is great quality and delicious. We order the house family meal that's $17 per person and it gives you, a few different types of appetizers consisting of fried shrimp, the best egg rolls I've ever had foils wrapped chicken omg! Then you get a massive war wonton soup full of vegetables, wontons and pork; Then onto the sides, chicken lo mein, pork fried rice, then some seared beef, I don't understand it because it's just a side of seared beef lol but it's delish! Chicken with cashew and peppers very light and yummy. Cantonese shrimp, which is a sautéed shrimp dish with veggies and egg in a light gravy style sauce and sweet and sour pork. So far we have made 5 meals out of this and probably have about 2 to go! So cheap and delicious! read more

Best Chinese food in San Pedro, and best that I've personally had outside of Beijing. The key is that every order is made to order, everything is fresh. Most of their business is phone in orders for carry out, so the dining facilities aren't for an intimate date encouter. They are pretty much red Subway tables. The food is great, but I know some of the menu items are better than others. I love the Chow Mein, Hong Kong style. It is only $6.75 and it is enough for two people easy. Tons of shrimp, pork, chicken, snow peas, noodles, and veggies. Did I mention it was made to order? Prices are reasonable for what you get. Really clean and small mom and pop shop. Decided to go order in person since its my first time. Didnt smell the usually grease or "chinese restaurant" as I was expected. To me thats a good thing lol. (As i walk out thats when i smell the "wok" air haha) Very affordable prices as most combos are $6.00. And dishes range from $6-9.25 max!! Ordered the Beef chow fan (干炒牛河) $8.00 And two combos- sweet n sour pork/ kung paochi ken They were fast about my order, only took 10 mins after i placed it. And they kindly place my togo in a box! No mess! Now to taste... Its pretty good for the price. Except the fried rice in the combo...its just rice with soy/flavor. Not even the frozen veggies lol But minor details.. NOT GOOD. JUST, NOT GOOD. I've lived in the neighborhood for a long time, but I had never been to Nim Chan's until this week. Unfortunately, I wish it had remained that way. I ordered the "Special Combination," which comes with sweet-and-sour pork, chow mein, and an eggroll. The word "special" seems to refer to the two special ingredients, which are grease and celery. All three items were glazed with a shiny film of grease, and all three items tasted like celery more than they tasted like anything else. How do you even get sweet-and-sour sauce to taste like celery? Whatever the case, I have developed a handy user manual for anyone considering heading there: NIM CHAN'S INSTRUCTIONS: If you're standing in front of Nim Chan's with some money in your pocket, turn right. Walk about 20 feet, and then turn left and go into Pronto's. Literally anything you order will be better than what you would have had at Nim Chan's. read more

This little place has become one of my favorite Chinese food restaurants around San Pedro. I usually called my order in and they deliver it for free. The only thing whatever you order to pick up or delivery, the food does take time to be cook, in part for the amount of orders they receive, and in another good part, they cook the food as it is order! Overall, it is a great little restaurant, great food, and even thou the owner's English has an accent and I have an accent too.. we try to understand each other and I have always received exactly what I ordered, they have a great attitude, never rude! The Food here is still delicious. The egg rolls are the best I've ever eaten and you can't find them like they make at Nim Chan's anywhere else. Terrible food. I ordered the paper wrap chicken, kung pao chicken and egg rolls and had no clue wtf it was. Kung pao Chicken was slimy and served in like a soup....(ya a soup, like I needed a fucking ladle to pour that crap over rice)with huge chucks of green bell pepper. Paper wrapped chicken was cooked half way, so gross biting into a undercooked chunk of chicken. The egg rolls came pre cut and jammed into a Chinese food container. They smelled and tasted liked cinnamon or nutmeg was present? They put up a wall between the cashier and the kitchen so the can smoke crack and make wack food that's hella sketch. I'm a block away and I came home with soggy egg rolIs I had one bite of everything n threw it away. Way over priced and disgusting food. Nim Chan's has been in South Shores forever, it seems and is the best, authentic Chinese food that I've ever found - in 59 years (if you count years when I wasn't old enough to know what I was eating). Since we moved to Las Vegas over six years ago, there's not a week that goes by when I don't say "I sure miss Nim Chan's", or "I'm craving Nim Chan's right now so much I'd drive there to get it, if that were possible", or "Too bad Nim Chan's doesn't deliver (to Las Vegas)". Nim Chan's is one of those old San Pedro staples that is good " not the best" but they're right there and convenient so you go and find a few things that end up being comfort food. I'm always greeted by the same sweet little old lady who adds my total up without the aid of a calculator or register! That in itself is a bit of a comfort. Best Chinese in San Pedro; used to get Lucky Star delivered but their quality declined in recent years.. so we tried Nim's, and it's SO MUCH MORE DELICIOUS. Totally worth driving to pick it up (since they don't deliver). Orange chicken is completely on point, crispy and never soggy. Nice big potions too! The fried rice is perfect. Plus they give you everything in a cardboard box instead of a bag so no leaky sauces all over the place! We love Nim Chan's :) read more
