A flavorful fusion of Cajun and Cambodian food that feels like a home cooked meal! The grilled beef sticks were the highlight for me, the meat was juicy and had a strong lemongrass flavor. The pickled daikon and carrots also cut through the richness of the meat. We also got the spicy Cajun bag, which had a good amount of seafood and was easily splittable between two people. The seafood tasted fresh, and the sauce was very flavorful! The Thai tea was also creamy and refreshing, perfect for fighting the heat of the seafood. There is no bathroom, but the staff was also super nice and let us wash our hands in the sink behind the register. The spot is pretty small, with a few tables inside. Seating is limited to 2 benches and a wall counter. Place is small BUT cozy. I ordered their Cajun Bag ($37), comes with 1lb of shrimp, 4 sausages, 6 mussels, 4 potatoes and 2 corn. I added 5 more sausages ($1/each), 2 more muscles ($1/each), 1lb of shrimp ($14 extra), and a soda can ($2)... $64 after taxes. Food arrives and we're given a pair of cafeteria lady plastic gloves, 2 of the thinnest papper plates imaginable and about 7 napkins. Theres no covers on the bench so I slice our bag open to where we can grab the food but not spill out on the table. Food gymnastics! When we finish eating we ask for wet naps to clean our hands and they dont have any, restroom? Nope, no public restroom. Were told we can come into the kitchen and wash our hands of we like.... thanks but no thanks. Thr girl still the register was super friendly though, so she got them an extra star in my review. The food: I dont know if im spoiled by other places, but it could also be that this isnt specifically a sea food boil place. Its a Asian fusion location with an option of a seafood boil bag, but i come to expect a bit more out of the sauce option. Like the sauce that was in the bag was just enough to coat the food and that's it. I seen like a couple sliced garlic pieces but really? Like 6 or 7 slices? Then the sausages.... theyre store bought hilshire farms sausages... and to charge $1 A SLICE IS DIABOLICAL! The clams were chewy, the shrimp was mushy... im forever now gonna take that 30 minte drive to anywhere for seafood boil. This is a very small seafood spot with just two tables and a few window seats, so it's better suited for a quick meal than a long dine-in experience. One downside is that they don't have a public restroom, so there's nowhere to wash your hands after digging into seafood. Be sure to bring your own hand sanitizer or wet wipes because you'll definitely want them! We ordered a pound of shrimp with snow crab and added corn and potatoes. We chose the mild seasoning, and while it still had a little kick for me, that's probably because I don't normally eat spicy food. The seafood was fresh, flavorful, and well-seasoned. We also ordered the whole lobster, which ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. It was stir-fried with onions and green onions, served with a side of white rice, and absolutely delicious. One surprise was finding shrimps inside the lobster dish as well. We also shared the hearty seafood chowder and a beef skewer. We came hungry and managed to finish almost everything, with only some shrimps left in the seafood boil bag. A&J it's a great spot if you're craving fresh seafood. They do provide disposable gloves, but I'd still recommend bringing your own wipes since there's no sink available. We got the Cajun Bag or whatever it is for 37$. We added on 1lb shrimp, 2 mussels , 6 more sausages. The mussels and sausages were 1 dollar each. In the words of my fiancé... Diabolical. You can see the pic it's not worth it. The sausage is straight up from pepperidge farm (which proally most people have them at but to charge that per slice). The seasoning... not really there its like they put Tabasco last minute or something. You wouldn't know where to dispose the shillings and what not, as they only serve with two paper .99 cents plates. No restrooms, wet naps. Its.. one of those places if you want a real quick meal...but i rather go to Jack in box right next then spend 50+. The drive to long beach for kicking or any other seafood boil places be better to satisfy that craving than here. read more

My family and I were looking for a lunch place near Cabrillo Aquarium and were so pleased to find A&J Seafood Shack. The small shop is casual and clean. There are no public restrooms. The person who helped us was very sweet and helpful. We had the Salt & Pepper Shrimp, Combo Fried Rice, and Khmer sausage. Everything was made fresh and really hit the spot for us. Little neighborhood spot in the middle of San Pedro, unassuming exterior and interior, but overall very clean. Not much room to sit though, just about 3 tables and some window seating. Service was quick, although it's not really the kind of food where you need someone to keep coming by, they were pretty attentive. Seafood is great. Quality, cooked well with no rubbery texture at all, feels and tastes fresh. Seasoning is also great, but their "spicy" seasoning is not spicy at all, so don't be afraid to add the flavor. read more

Already one of my favorite Cambodian places in Long Beach and stoked to see it expanding. We already love the beef sticks, khmer sausage and seafood at the other location. The seafood chowder was surprising and maybe a Lent special, but it may be my favorite chowder ever. Rich, creamy, just a hint of funk and cheese. We tried the crispy salmon, which came with a fantastic mango salsa. The stir fried noodles were good, but also not spectacular and worth going out of the way for. The sauces added even more funk and spice. Even more impressive is the whole operation was run by one guy. I'm sad cause the other location has outdoor seating (and only outdoor seating cause it's a hot dog style shack) but this one does not. Otherwise a great addition of variety to the area. read more

We originally set out to try the LBC location and discovered that this location in San Pedro was a tad bit closer to us. Wife got the crispy salmon and I got the garlic shrimp and a beef stick. I will say that the place was decent but I probably went in with expectations that were a bit too high. The beef stick marinade/sauce was delicious but the meat itself was a bit too chewy/fatty for my liking. The garlic shrimp was solid but a bit sweeter than I'd anticipated. Similar to reviewer Mimi A, I was expecting it to taste a bit fresher. The Crispy salmon presentation was solid. Next time around we'll probably order takeout and take it down to San Pedro Park to eat as there isn't much going on in the restaurant by way of tables nor by way of service. San Pedro is the family run restaurant's second location with the OG spot in the LBC. The San Pedro location is so new, it looked to me like they didn't have their outdoor signage up yet. Parking is limited and Gaffey St is a busy street, so takeout is recommended. This establishment is small like a shack with limited seating, but we arrived for an early dinner on a Saturday evening and were able to dine indoors. Service was both friendly and accommodating. I started with the Salt & Pepper Wings that were served crispy and piping hot just the way I like them, and I appreciated that they were sprinkled with jalapeños, onions and served with a side of pickled veggies. A sweet sauce was included but I opted for a chili sauce instead for dipping. I also ordered their Braised Pork Bowl which was loaded with tender pork belly, two halves of a soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots, and fried tofu. The entree was garnished with cucumbers and cilantro and served over a bed of rice. The entire meal was both flavorful and fulfilling! For my choice of beverage, I went with the Thai iced coffee which i found to be potent - so much so that I only had a few sips and will be finishing tomorrow. Ordered online and picked up at A & J on Saturday, 6:30pm. Parked on the street right in front of restaurant. There were a lot of people eating in the establishment and they were busy. We ordered the Garlic Shrimp, Beef Sticks and Chicken egg rolls. All was so good. That chili oil they use on the Garlic Shrimp tastes so good on the rice also. I ordered the Beef Sticks, and the pickled veggies goes great with the meat. This is definitely a favorite. They serve a hefty portion of food for the price. Roy had the salmon sandwich $11 for the steak sandwich and I think it was $15 for the salmon sandwich as a combo the fries have a yummy seasoning on it. We're definitely going back and service was not only pleasant. It was downright five star plus nice lady even called us to let us know the order was ready and she forgot to ask what drink we wanted so she could have it ready when we got there. I ordered the Spring Rolls, which are described as "lettuce, mints, shrimp, pork belly, cucumber and bean sprout". Just standard spring rolls, right? Both my rolls had no pork belly at all, not even one piece, only just a few bean sprouts, and no mint at all! The entire order was just 2 rolls with lettuce, vermicelli, a few measly bean sprouts and 3 half slices of shrimp each. extremely disappointing given how easy this particular dish is to put together. If you don't have pork belly, you should just say the item is sold out. I also ordered the salt and pepper shrimp platter. This dish was pretty OK and came out quickly.
