My boyfriend and I like to try new places to eat, one of our friends had mentioned this place, so we decided to try it! I'm so glad we made the trip to try it!!! When you walk in, you're right in the bar area, it can be busy at times, but we haven't seen anyone rude there. We got called to our table and brought into a different room right off the bar area. The food was absolutely amazing (we have been back 3 more times) the waitresses we have had were very personable, it was all around a great experience (every time we've been there) I definitely recommend this establishment! read more

Old-School Wisconsin Supper Club Vibes at the Nimrod Inn This is classic Wisconsin supper club--no hostess stand, no frills. Just belly up to the bar, and when the waitress notices you, she'll jot your name down in a well-worn notebook. No buzzers, no text alerts--just patience and a Brandy Old Fashioned with some true Northwoods flair while you wait (likely about an hour). They're only open Thursday through Sunday, but people travel from all over the state just to get a seat. The décor is straight out of the '70s--in the best, most nostalgic way. The dining room is separated by a doorway to keep the chatter down, creating that cozy, focused dinner atmosphere. We ordered the prime rib with a double-baked potato, and I swear it fed us for three days. Honestly, the two trips to the salad bar alone nearly did us in. But it's what's on the salad bar that truly sets the Nimrod Inn apart--the gizzards. Yes, gizzards. I know, just hearing the word might turn your stomach. But trust me--give these a try. The owner slow-cooks them for 10 hours, and if you didn't know better, you'd think they were beef tips. They melt in your mouth and are absolutely unforgettable. Steak, prime rib & salad bar were amazing! Would definitely take a ride to try the other things on the menu.

We decided to take a drive to Nimrod tonight for dinner. I had their ribs and they were some of the best I have had. My husband had the meatloaf special and was very happy with his meal. I have to say the service was way above and beyond expectations, the food delicious, and portions were large. We enjoyed Friday night, fish dinners at this quaint Northwoods supper club. The wait staff was attentive and pleasant. The salad bar was amazing... We could have had that for dinner by itself. The fish/seafood options that we ordered arrived piping hot and the portions were generous. This is one that we will return to again. read more

Make Nimrods Tolerable Again! Food was below mediocre. Hostess was frantic and rude. Cocktails were an insult to bartending. Geez, the north woods used to be a treat with interesting characters, inviting taverns and well-cooked food. That atmosphere has mostly been replaced by naïve political views and extremist propaganda lining every lawn now. Worship of a criminal politician has replaced friendly conversation and welcoming places to visit. No thanks! read more

The classic supper club experience sit at the bar for 1/2 hr waiting for a table even if there slow that being said 60$ for 2 people not to bad for the portion of meat you receive the salad bar was amazing the servers were great I would go back but I wouldn't go out of my way to do so read more

What a joke, $80 for a 8oz Lobster Tail (that was overcooked) !!!

Fried chicken was good along with the salad bar. The bartender was less than ok not giving me a clean glass when going from stout to ale WHO DOES THAT. The lack of good service would have me looking elsewhere next time I'm in the area. read more

Waitress could not have been ruder,copped an attitude because we wanted to change tables in an open dinning room.Table water smelled and tasted like something died in the well.Missing most of her teeth,and smelling of booze was enough for our table,got up and left for the Sociables bar down the road.Much better all around experience. read more

How can it be that no one has reviewed this gem? When I first heard about this place I said "Go where? NIMROD INN? In Applestain? What?" You simply cannot imagine the people watching. It must be experienced to be believed. There is a dark (but lively) smoke-filled bar up front and a cheery, sunny family restaurant in the back--it's like two worlds have collided in Athelstane. It's one of the, like, 3 restaurants in the area and it's often filled with hunters. I try to avoid that time of year but if you're in the area, again, you will leave this place with a beauty of a story to share when you return to the city. The food is exactly what you expect it to be. Fried perch, prime rib, burgers, etc. Giant portions, low prices, salad bar extraordinaire, friendly service. Go now! Visiting Wisconsin with my grandparents and we decided to come in for dinner on a very quiet Monday evening. The restaurant was nearly empty. We weren't even sure if it would be open on a Monday during the summer, but when we entered the old, rustic building we were greeted by a very friendly bartender and a couple of similarly hospitable Wisconsinites. We have been to the Nimrod many years ago for pizza, which we recalled to be very good. This time though, we opted for chicken, a pork chop, and a walleye, plus the grandparent-favorite salad bar that came with each of our entrees. The salad bar had a variety of different toppings, but the lettuce itself was just shredded lettuce, not actual stalks of romaine or iceberg, unless they shred it in-house (I'm not sure). There was a tuna and potato salad that was good, too. Our dinners came out and they were good, but quite salty. My grandpa and uncle had the chicken, my grandma the pork chop and me the walleye. We all thought our food was salty. Other than that, everything seemed pretty good. My fish was in a tasty buttery sauce and the twice baked potato was good, too. read more

What a joke! To small to have a Mother's Day Buffet! Poor organization of buffet, ran out of root beer and sweet tea, too many tables and people shoved in to a tiny dining area! Certainly not worth the $17.95 unless your the 250lb plus people scarfing it down to make sure they get their money's worth. I won't be coming here for another buffet! read more

While the Nimrod can look a bit scary from the outside it is warm and hospitable on the inside. I mainly go for the beer and burgers. They make a great bar burger. They do have a separate dinning room that is well attended and serving traditional Wisconsin food. They have a great salad bar that is fresh and extensive. This night I went with the broasted chicken, 1/2 a chicken with coleslaw and a baked potato all for $6.95. All of it was excellent and fresh. read more

We were out looking for a lobster dinner and stopped JUST FOR A DRINK! Looked at the menu and Hokey Smokes! 16 and 8 oz lobster appeared on. Although they were out of the 16 oz, my party of 3 ordered 2 8-oz cooked to perfection. It can be tricky cooking a frozen lobster and I have eaten many a rubbery one, but the cook did an excellent job with them and also cooked my steak to a perfect medium rare. The dining room was very busy and there was only one waitress, but she did great! Especially since she was filling in. It's great to know I can get a good steak within 10 miles from home. The only negative was at the bar. I had the worst old fashioned of my life and the bartender was not very attentive. read more
