As someone who usually loves to try new spots, especially while on vacation, this is one of the few restaurants in Asheville I keep coming back to on every visit. Annika delivered our bottle of wine then opened the screw top and walked away. It wasn't until after we poured our wine that we realized she had delivered the wrong bottle! Always a great meal here. We love the variety of options, and everything is consistently fresh and healthy. Service is solid, and it's no surprise the place stays busy. My only feedback is about the gluten-free noodles. It's wonderful that you offer them, but they're cooked in the same water as regular pasta, which means they aren't truly gluten-free. This type of Cross-contamination can be serious, so it might be better to use a separate pot or remove the gluten-free label altogether. I got the rice instead. I don't know if that's what sacrificed the flavor, but this was just a bland dish that is spicy. I do not recommend this. My wife ordered the Amani, but subbed salmon. This was actually very good. We have been coming to this restaurant for years! Never disappoints and is always amazing! They have a few new dishes and drinks since we've been there last. We had the smoked Gouda queso, The Meshach, and the Back A Yard, both with chicken...A..mazing! We also had the rum punch and mojito for drinks, both were really good! We grabbed some Caribbean cocktails while we waited, but also highly recommend checking out the beer board to see what is on tap from Nine Mile Brewing. Cool Runnings dish came highly recommend and the flavor was good, although substituting the jerk tofu instead of Cajun chicken was only so-so. Definitely plan on a wait if you come during a busy time. Service was friendly and attentive. Parking can be difficult. Their lot is small. Now for the food- AMAZING! Garlic lovers paradise. Best food on the west side and the town knows it! You won't ever leave unsatisfied with nine mile. I've had nearly every dish on the menu and no complaints! I will say there is some inconsistency from location to location on portions, but it's all delicious! The meshach and salad with his majesty's dressing is my go to! Got the hummus, which ended up being black bean and SO full of flavor. Every entree comes with a small spring salad and a delicious Caribbean style garlic bread to soak up the extra salad dressing. The entree comes out with enough for at least 2 meals unless you're super hungry. I personally loved how many vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options they have to cater to any dietary need! Okay, get it out of your head that this is authentic Caribbean food. If you do, I promise you will enjoy your experience. If you walk in looking for oxtail or authentic jerk chicken you will be disappointed. It took me a while to learn this but when I actually did, I started to enjoy this restaurant. Asheville has an abundance of amazing dinner options, so it was hard for me to narrow down locations to visit for my short weekend traveling in the area. Nine Mile continued to pop up as a top rated restaurant option, and I was definitely not disappointed after my experience! The Caribbean fusion dishes were so special and featured fresh ingredients in a way I hadn't experienced before. Two of us split one entree and it was more than enough food for both of us, so be aware of the large portion sizes if it's your first time. We ordered the Soul Rebel and loved the flavors with wild caught Alaskan salmon, veggies, curry, and apple chutney. This was the first time that I have had any kind of issues with this restaurant. We were literally the first table to sit down right when they opened. Our server was funny and friendly. I don't know if it was his fault or the kitchens but it took forever for my nachos to come out. In fact some of our table was already done eating before it came out. Then when it did finally reach the table it looked like it had been assembled by a 4 year old. The server said here have some Natty bread while you wait. Then charged us for it .... Then knowing that there had been an issue the server was a little tentative about coming around. We were trying to get out of there and wound up getting caught in some massive traffic. Gosh! The prices sure have gone up at this place. Back in my day... Still, it's worth it. This has to be top three favorite places in all of Asheville, and perhaps the world. It helps when you think that every meal is really two meals. Because that's true. This used to me my favorite restaurant. Last night the service was terrible and when I asked after an hour of waiting on my food while everyone around me got theirs first I was told "we are very busy and there's a lot of takeout orders". Once I got the same meal I've always gotten the tofu had changed and wasn't even cooked. It was gooey, wet, and cold on the inside. The was minimal pasta and they never once checked to see how the meal was until bringing the check. The waitress told me that it was cooked correctly and the chef liked the tofu cooked the new way. My friend has been here for years and she has been getting her favorite dish, ark of the covenant for a long time and now it's moved onto this one. Believe the hype- Nine Mile really is THAT GOOD! This Caribbean style restaurant is a total gem! Their food items are unique and quite flavorful and fresh tasting. The drinks are kinda what you would expect from a beachside bar... typically more on the sweeter side. Personally I enjoy them, especially on a warmer day! I've tried probably about five or so of their different entrées, and my personal favorite is the Ragglan Road. My husbands fav is Cool Runnings. And note that these portion sizes are pretty huge! The mango salsa is addictive and refreshing. I would love to know the spices that top the Natty bread, and the salad greens are really fresh. Okay, wow! This place was amazing. I'll be honest and say that I almost gave up on it. The first day we went about an hour before closing with plans to order takeout, but were told that they weren't doing takeout anymore because they had new people in the kitchen. Annoying. The next time we were going to eat there we realized they're only open for about 5 hours per night, and we'd had a late lunch, so that wasn't going to work out. Finally we decided to go for an early dinner and I'm so glad it worked out. Everything was fantastic. We started with an appetizer, the Live and Give, which was pretty good. I liked the spicy salsa the most, but the queso was pretty good too. Drinks? Yes. I had a mango margarita, which was good, but the rum punch blew it out of the water. At first I was pretty ageist against rum punch, because Mary Poppins tastes it when she has her spoonful of sugar so it seemed like a pretty old-fashioned drink, but this was a reminder that old fashioned doesn't mean bad because yum. They also did not skimp on the alcohol at all; I left the driving duties to my dining partner so that I could live to tell the tale. We ordered the special, which was some sort of fish/shellfish dish that I avoid almost as much as I try to avoid a plague so I can't tell you anything about it, except that the person who ate it said it was good. For my part, I ordered the Nine Mile with chicken. It was so, so good; one of the best things I've tried in a long time. I was a little worried about the ginger because sometimes people can go overboard with that, but it was not overwhelming. I ordered it with linguine, but the server accidentally put it in with rice instead (the Nine Mile with rice is his go-to meal), and though I was a bit disappointed I think it was actually the better choice to go with it. Serendipity! Would you believe me if I told you that the biggest surprise of the meal was the salad dressing? I wouldn't have believed me either, but it's true. I ordered my salad with the jalapeño lime cilantro dressing, and let me tell you, it was friggin amazing. Spicy, fresh, slightly creamy, tangy... my friends, this actually makes me want to (and be excited about) eat salads. Hook me up to an IV and pump it in. I ordered two containers to bring home and was excited to find that my CSA delivery included salad greens; all was put to good use today. What makes me so mad is that it's not bottled (they put it in a couple take-out containers)! Whaaaaaaaaat? They could make bank if this was sold like they sell the other items on their site. I can't drive 10 hours to Asheville to get dressing! Nine Mile, please get this figured out ASAP so I can not only order it for myself but convert everyone I know to this. I also can't believe that the tahini salad dressing is the most popular (our server confirmed the jalapeño is the one we wanted because he said the tahini is the most popular). People are lying to you about that I swear; I just haven't figured out why. Definitely a stop on my next trip to Asheville. We found this restaurant by just driving down the street and thought it looked good. Little did we know we were in for a Jamaican treat. I had a fabulous Chicken Back-a Yard Bowl because I saw plantains, and when I see plantains, I get plantains. It did not disappoint. My bowl had grilled chicken with basmati rice, black beans, pineapple, and grilled zucchini topped with fried plantains. Heaven. Just the right amount of spice. My husband's had the restaurants name sake dish, the nine mile. He chose pasta and chicken with a medium amount of heat and it was really something. When they say medium it is like other whimper restaurants hot+. It had zucchini, squash, jalapeno, sun dried tomato in a garlic butter sauce. He gave it a 7.4 out of ten. We also had a chocolate Spliff for dessert that was very refreshing. Chocolate, rolled like a Swiss roll with lemon time filling. I was not expecting it. We also had a very good old fashioned made with bullet burbon and maple syrup we were big fans of. If you are on the fence, just do it. Note: restaurant serves only chicken and fish protein. First of all, I never heard of a restaurant type establishment that does not do takeout, ESPECIALLY during their "busy times". Wouldn't that cutdown on the line for those who now have to wait to eat the food instead of getting it to go? The hostess/host at this establishment is not quick at all - you (in general terms) can see the long line but yet there is no sense of urgency. I witnessed them saying they were going to cut off the line, but if there was some sense of urgency, maybe you didn't have to cut off the line. Furthermore, when I finally got my seat, it took 15 minutes for service. Then when we asked the waiter/waitress if we could get our food to go, then they said YES. What!?! I don't understand. And it was still busy - so this could've been avoided not just for me, but for all the other potential customers I saw come before and after me. Pretty ridiculous. read more
