Visited for the Independence Day fireworks so the outside was jam packed. There were plenty of tables inside so that worked. Grabbed a few apps because I thought there was going to be food trucks for the event but there was nada. Kinda regretted it in the evening. Grabbed few apps and some beers. Both were tasty, similar to how Mateo describes Jim.

Ate here with a friend recently. I wanted a quick drink bit wound up dinner on a Friday night. We had waited for a table but it was already packed in restaurant. They wound up seating us in the Bar which had a few seats at the end of Bar. Bartenders were friendly and they took our dinner order at the bar. We had ordered the Steak and a Chicken parm dinner. I had a Henhouse Mighty IPA. We actually liked the Bar vibe and the food was ok. I wound up taking 1/2 my dinner home but it was good for breakfast the next day. It was alright but the vibe at bar was comforting and I would rather be at Bar then dine in the restaurant we will be back for more of their menu.

We came here last minute for my Birthday brunch. This is a cozy chill spot with good friendly customer service. And delicious brunch. I had the Ultimate omelette which was delicious. My friend had the Denver omelette and my sister had the Steak and two eggs. Lastly my daughter enjoyed the chicken strips. Overall, we a good time good portions we will be back

The service was great. Shout out to our server. The bar inside was nice with a good selection. Surprisingly great food! I was pleasantly surprised.

Tried this restaurant for the first time, though it's been around for many year. Table for 4 indoors. We were seated immediately. Good food. Excellent menu. Love that they have a beer garden with live music and outdoor seating in the back.

We love coming to Benicia and we love eating at Lucca! They always have good live music playing, seasonal menus and eclectic atmosphere. Plus service is always warm.

Food is amazing There's a guy named Eric who works there Such a pleasant person and really glad I ran into such a nice guy I'd come back just because of his attitude and his energy Thanks, Eric

November 2025 update: Add Cioppino to my Lucca Love List :) Service was spot on. Note to self: sit in front of the restaurant to catch the morning rays; it's a little chilly inside when Lucca first opens.

Walking around Benicia we overheard the music, so we decided to come and see what it's like. We ended up going to the Beer Garden and it's open seating. You order your drinks at the outdoor bar and can sit and enjoy the live music. They have live music Thursdays til Sunday. We had such a great time. Just good vibes, music, and drinks. They also have a sit down restaurant inside and an indoor bar. But we really enjoyed the beer garden. The bartender was friendly and there were plenty of seating. It was a beautiful day in Benicia when we went but when evening came, it was chilly. They had the heaters running for us which helped a lot. Great scene. Good service. We definitely recommend this place and can't wait to go back!

Lucca continues be a solid pick for good food and music in town. I always gotta visit Lucca every now and then. I think it's amazing that they have the beer garden now. If it's cold theres even heat lamps outside! Much needed for someone like me he is always cold. But what's the next best thing to warm you up? An alcoholic beverage and a bowl of chili. If you haven't had the chili, I definitely think you should try it the next time. It was so good that I'm thinking of trying a chili dog the next time im here and Im pretty picky about chili. Potato fans will also enjoy the Baked Potato. It comes fully loaded and with Beer Cheese. The one thing that was just ok to me were the Ribs. I love my ribs to be super saucey but I also like for them to be flavorful without. They tasted like they weren't really seasoned at all. But the texture was good though. The meat fell off the bone which I was at least thankful for. The Ribs weren't bad by any means. I just feel like they needed a pinch more salt and pepper at the very least. Aside from that one hiccup, I always have a good time here. Lucca continues to be in our rotation for favorite bars in town.

    Two $5 bills

They charged us $5 per person as soon as we sat even though we only wanted one quick beer and said we'd only be there a few minutes (band wasn't even playing yet), should have walked across the street to mare island brewing

Walt from Walt's Adventures reporting from the Lucca Bar and Grill in Benicia, California. This corner restaurant has both indoor and outdoor dining, a full bar and is a mere block or so from the seaside. We arrived, were directed to our seats and found ourselves sipping our drinks short afterwards. The deviled eggs is an appetizer that I recommend. The taste was satisfying. All of our meals had a pleasing presentation. The fish of the fish n chips rivaled many other eateries. A member of my party greatly appreciated the chips of the dish. I thought that they were good but a bit too cooked for my individual tastes. The chicken sandwich was completely devoured and the Chicken Wrap Salad was fantastic. I am sure that the soup was prepared with skill. For the individual taste of one of my party members, it had a spice that gave her a frown. Overall, this restaurant is now listed with my favorites in the area. I look forward to returning at a far more earlier time to taste the breakfast portions of the menu. If the breakfast is anything like the rest of our selections we consumed today, we will no doubt leave Lucca Bar and Grill again highly satisfied.

Just along the main strip of town, this place is busy. We stopped by early morning just a little after they were opened. Even mid week and there was a massive line already forming. They must be good. There's two entrance, first being the main where the front door is. Patio seating available along the sidewalk. And then the back entrance where the majority of the seating is outside. It's like a secret garden with all the trees and plants. Somewhat a treehouse feel as well. They have 2 levels with tables. Beautiful spot sitting there under the tree having a nice cup of joes and a beautiful pastries. Indoor also has some seating along the front and I believe there's a second floor right above the entrance. There's mainly one line for everything. You wait to place your order if you wanted pastries and food. I think you could just order drinks at counter if you're not getting food but don't quote me on that. Everyone was waiting together. Once you reach the top, there's the counter of fresh baked pastries that's made daily. Things do sell out pretty fast. We literally arrived not long after they open and the ham and cheese croissant was already sold out. Besides pastries, there's fresh baked bread. Coffee drinks were pretty good too. After you pick what you want, the cashier is at the end and that's where you pay. There's a counter at the back where drinks are picked up. The whole place has an open kitchen feel where you could actually see all the workers preparing the sweets. In the back kitchen, you could walk by and see the pastries chef preparing and putting together the fresh sweets. It's like you're part of the kitchen. It's a cute place and it does get busy. The locals know about this place so it a hot spot. The holiday makers know which their names is getting out there and making a big splash for them. We've been a few times while in town and each time, alway busy and great. Amazing pastries and good drink. It is on the pricer side but that's pretty much everywhere you go these days.

Of the foods I'd recommend the fried green tomatoes and fried okra for starters. They're also one of few places offering beignets. For entrees the crab cake Benedict is good. The portions are filling. Ambiance is very casual. The utensils come in a little paper pouch and the napkins are paper towels on a dowel at each table. This particular location can look a bit dim. I couldn't skip checking out Sailor Jack's, which used to be the Nantucket Fish Company, when I worked there in the mid 80's. The lunch menu offers some very different items than were offered four decades ago, but some items from those days are still featured today. (Items like clam chowder and fried prawns, for example.) Our server, Elizabeth, was great. She answered our questions and ensured we were happy with our food, at least as far as she could ensure... the food, however, was rather mediocre. We ordered a variety of food ranging from crab artichoke dip, to a chicken club, to fish and chips, to clam chowder, to a burger, and finally crab cakes. The starter, sandwich, fish and chips, and burger were all okay. The crab cakes however were not liked by those in our group that tasted them. (A lot of filler and not much crab from what one of our party members said). In any case, I mentioned this and the crab cakes, that went mostly uneaten, were removed from our bill. Bravo for good customer service! My understanding is that the outdoor dining that we very much enjoyed, was added during Covid. Back in the 80's the outdoor eating area was all parking lot. I took a look inside to see what else has changed. The main interior dining room looks almost identical to what it looked like 40+ years ago. The previous secondary indoor dining area has now been converted to a food preparation and employee only area. The bar itself looks the same as it did in 1984, but the area around the bar looks much more like dining space than it used to. This may be a good thing as attitudes on indulgences have certainly changed over the decades. I suspect at some point I'll return, hopefully it won't be decades...

I ordered the sea bass, my husband had the salmon, my sister had a salad, and her husband enjoyed the filet mignon. Every dish was delicious, but the sea bass deserves special recognition. As someone who orders sea bass whenever I can, I've had it in Pismo Beach, Monterey, and San Francisco, and Baxter's has set a new standard. It was incredibly fresh, melt-in-your-mouth tender, with a perfectly crisp sear that locked in all of its delicate flavor. Every bite was moist, flaky, and cooked to perfection. It was honestly the best sea bass I've ever had. The service was warm, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. Combined with the elegant atmosphere and classic white tablecloths, Baxter's was the perfect place to celebrate. We'll definitely be back!

If you're looking for the kind of dinner that makes you want to cancel your other weekend plans…read morejust so you can go back, Baxters is it. Tucked right on First Street across from the bay in downtown Benicia, this place has completely earned its reputation as the town's culinary crown jewel. From the moment you walk in, the warmth is unmistakable -- and it's not an accident. Owners Kenneth Coker and Kevin Shaw built this restaurant to feel like their own living room, and it shows in every detail, right down to the name (a sweet nod to their beloved Fox Terrier). That personal touch translates into genuinely attentive service that never feels stiff or rehearsed. Now, the food. The Beef Wellington is the stuff of legend -- perfectly rendered pastry, a filling that melts before you even chew, and clearly a labor of love from the kitchen. The scallops are seared to that impossible perfection where the outside caramelizes but the inside stays buttery-soft. And if salmon gnocchi in vodka sauce is on the menu when you go, order it without hesitation -- it's rich, comforting, and impossible to stop eating. Even the truffle burger, which almost feels like an afterthought on a menu this elevated, has become a neighborhood obsession for good reason. Cocktails are crafted with the same care as the food -- inventive, well-balanced, and clearly the product of a team that takes its bar program seriously. And if you can snag a reservation in The Speakeasy, the intimate back room, do it. It's easily one of the most romantic, memorable settings for a special occasion in the entire Bay Area. Baxters isn't just a great restaurant -- it's a genuine gathering place, the kind of spot a whole town falls in love with. Whether it's date night, a family celebration, or just a nightcap at the bar, Baxters delivers an experience that's warm, delicious, and utterly memorable every single time. Highly, highly recommended.

The dining area has approximately ten booths in total and became quite crowded around 12:30p. Our meals arrived at different times, items to eat meal arrived sparsely as well. We ordered around 11:30a, there were two other parties present. We were able to order based on our dietary needs/wants as the menu offered quite a diverse array. The crab omelette (known as The California Omelette on the menu) is 1/4 lb of fresh crab served either hot or cold enclosed in three eggs along with avocado and Monterey Jack cheese. For $26.35 the omelette left much to be desired, especially in flavor and seasoning. Nothing complimented or even enhanced the presence of the crab in any way. The remaining party at the table said they enjoy their meal - including a blueberry waffle, toast and eggs with bacon and a double cheeseburger with fries. If you are looking for an inexpensive place to gather, this cafe is certainly an option to consider. It was easy to speak and hear each other with ample privacy and not a lot of traffic - if any.
