We visited here recently for our first time. We were a little skeptical after reading some of the reviews from about a year ago, however, we were pleasantly surprised with the entire meal. The servers were attentive and friendly and the food was really good. We ordered wine/beer (decent pricing and pour), kids meals, a ruben, salad, and cheeseburger with jalepeno bacon. All of the food was really good. They served locally made pretzel bread before the meal with flavored butter which tasted like honey mustard. Based on previous reviews, it seems like the place is working to improve their food and service. I am holding off on the 5th star to see the menu expand over time. Perhaps they are focusing on improving from where they were a year ago. I would suggest adding a wider/more unique selection of foods for people that want something a little different, such as the honey mustard butter they serve. Ambiance is great and the kids enjoyed their meals (kid and adult menu items) as well. It certainly didn't hurt that the kids were able to leave the dining room and walk out to their giant playdium with a huge selection of video games, basketball shoot hoops, pinball machines, and other fun games for kids. Depending on the evening, this room is staffed by an adult and you can pay for unlimited play for your children to play in the room while you dine. Or they can have their own meal served in there if you prefer to have them play while you dine alone. The options are pretty wide, but it's close enough that your children aren't far, but not so close that you hear the noise of kids/video games. I also appreciated that the room looked and felt clean. Definitely a far cry from some of those other 'kid game pizza places' where the rooms are sweaty and germy feeling. This is very different, in that it's clean, well staffed, and all the games are included after paying a low fee to get unlimited play. I would suggest this for couples that want to go out and let their kids play while they dine/socialize with their friends. We are looking forward to returning. read more

We are looking at the river club for our wedding venue and were told the same chef handles nines and the banquet. To get a feel for his style, we tried nines for date night. It was perfection and we will be hosting our wedding there! We started with the duck confit risotto and honestly, I could eat that every day for the rest of my life. My fiancé ordered the lamb chops and I got a beef dish I don't remember the name of. Food tasted as good as it looked, but we did wish the chops had more of the veggies or something more filling added to the plate. My fiancé was still hungry after he finished, but my meal was so large I split it with him and I was still full. The desserts looked a little sketchy to me in that they seemed to have a lot of components but ORDER THEM! The banana dessert really didn't have a strong banana flavor, but it was mouth watering. Get it. Don't share! All in all, we were so happy with the excellent service and delicious food that we aren't even knocking a star. read more

The Thursday live music on the patio seemed like a relaxing venue w/ great views and good music. Unfortunately, it took over 10 minutes from when we were seated until our server arrived. This place has pretty solid food that's expertly presented to look good. However, it's overpriced compared to what you can get for the price at other restaurants. I like their idea of "flights," where you order three small plates (and a $6 discount) because it allows you to sample multiple plates. But it's expensive! We paid $100 (including tip) for two flights with one beer and one glass of wine. We don't eat a lot in general, but even after all three courses, we were just full, not stuffed. We had room for dessert, but the server never asked or offer a dessert menu. I noticed the Journal Sentinel's food critic said in a spring 2013 review that it's their weak spot - I wonder if they even have dessert menu. As far as the main dishes, the small beef tenderloin plate was the best. I also thought the duck breast was fairly good, but it could have been more tender. I liked the pork but the quiche was on the greasy side. My scallops were simply horrible. They were so soaked in garlic that I had to wash down every bite with a drink of water - even though the menu didn't even mention there'd be garlic in that dish. It was about $15 for two jumbo scallops. Beware, the menu they keep online was not the same as what they actually serve in the restaurant. We were planning to try certain dishes, but several weren't offered once we got there. The small loaves that they serve while you wait for your food comes with a tasty herb butter. The atmosphere is nice and easily allows you to have a conversation. But all in all: It's good, but there are probably places that provide better value for your money. read more

We really looked forward to a new restaurant in the area, close to home. Let me state the place is beautifully decorated, and a welcoming environment. Food was good, and interesting. It was physically cold for 5 of the 6 of us sitting near the big windows. Wine list is good, but arranged poorly, by price rather than type, making it hard to find what we wanted. 18% gratuity was automatically added (party of 6), without telling us or being prominently printed. We were informed when the bill arrived. Too bad as our service was great and they would have done better without the manadatory gratuity. We will probably go back - but not for a while - they still need to sort out some issues. read more

Great first impression yet a negative lasting one. We were excited to visit the "Nines" tonight. We were welcomed into a cozy bar and immediately made a table reservation with the hostess who politely invited us to enjoy a cocktail before our dinner at the bar. As we were preparing to be seated at our table with a golf course view, the manager on duty, Jason Baliesteri, seized our menus and announced that the visbly 1/2 full restaurant was full and that we would have to continue to wait at the bar for our table to be cleared. 30 minutes later we were eventually seated at a cramped table near the back of the restaurant which was obviously not the table we were expecting. We vowed to make the best of it. As the night wore on, however, we continued to be plagued by poor service. In addition, the quality of food was average and portions were small. The best part of visting the Nines was the friendly hostess station and bar. Unfortunately, we won't be back to enjoy either in the future since our other negative experiences outweighed the positive. The River Club is a beautiful facilty and may have potential for future greatness if the right managment team was in place. Our advice.....take your business elsewhere where it will be appreciated. read more

This is the first time I've given a restaurant a 5 star review. I'm trying to think of a reason not to give The Nines 5 stars, but I just can't! I took my Mother to The Nines for her 71st birthday and neither of us had been there before. For starters, the restaurant looks very up-scale and who would complain about eating at a table next to large windows overlooking a well-manicured golf course? We were seated immediately, our waiter was very friendly and helpful, and we got water without having to ask (or beg) for it. Everything about the restaurant was top-notch, including the silverware and even the place mats on the tables (I normally could care less about place mats, but these were cool carbon-fiber looking mats that I would've taken home if they would've let me.) Wednesday night is "pasta buffet night" (imagine an omelet buffet, only with pasta instead of eggs) so that's what we both had. The gentlemen who prepared the pasta were both very nice and the selection of ingredients was excellent, including pesto, sun dried tomatoes, several types of onions, several types of tomatoes, olives, etc.... too many to list (or even remember). Before we had even gone up to the pasta bar, a pretzel roll was delivered to our table with butter and mustard sides.... and it tasted just like a gigantic hot pretzel (I love hot pretzels). The buffet also had salad with various types of lettuce, spinach, and other mixed greens. Having mentioned it was my Mother's birthday, she was treated to a free desert which was also well presented and tasted great. She chose the apple tart with ice cream. To top-off the night, our totally bill wasn't even $30! Granted, we both had water to drink, but considering the caliber of the food, restaurant, and wait staff, I would've paid twice that and still been happy. I actually really liked the Nines with their old menu. I think people thought it was overpriced, but I had a delicious zucchini pasta when I was there, and I thought it was great. That's besides the point though, because it's changed now. They still have a similar cocktail list, but they took the menu to a more conventional place. I don't think Mequon was ready for a modern, small plate concept. We went recently and I enjoyed my time there. They have a beautiful bar with nice flat screen TVs. I love their cocktail menu, and went for the French Onion Soup and Portabella Burger. Both were pretty good. (I know some people are picky about their French Onion-- but its hard for me to not like anything that's covered in cheese). I would totally recommend it if you live in the area! read more

The menu looks amazing on paper yet doesn't really deliver when you're there. I went here with my family for my birthday in the late summer. It is a beautiful place that has a wall of tap wine to choose from...or enjoy some of their great cocktails or decent beer list. The food is modern American food that they offer in trios of small plates. I didn't think the steak was that high of quality nor did I like the huge 3 part plates they put them on that take up a good 2 feet. The service was alright yet the view was great overlooking the golf course. I would go again for drinks and maybe an app yet would pass on grabbing dinner there. read more

Mother's day brunch leaves mothers disappointed. For $40/person, the menu was pathetic. Greasy scrambled eggs - they could not have made to order eggs station? One meat choice - waaay too rare prime rib. Seafood table was picked clean by 1pm, despite the fact that brunch ran till 3. Fruit table was sad - empty plates, wilted little pieces of cantaloupe. When we asked to refill strawberry, blueberry and raspberry plates - they said they ran out. At 1? What were you planning to serve till 3? The desert table was the saddest. For $40/person, all they had was rice crispies? really? There were some peti four cheesecake bites, but they ran out of most by the time we came in. Unreasonably slow service but the food is good. We went to Nines on a Friday night and we new we were in trouble from the moment we walked in. The host station is at the front of the bar area which was very empty and at the back of the bar we could see the doorway to the dining room. We stood at the host station for nearly 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged (we almost walked out). 15 minutes after arriving, we were finally seated for our reservation. Out of 20 tables, 13 (including ours) were seated, so not a very busy night. A server came by, introduced himself and then it was 10 minutes before we got water. Took another 10 to get our drinks, and then almost 30 to get the two fish fries we ordered. Ultimately the food itself was very good. It's too bad everything was so slow because we were hoping to try dessert but after being there for 90 minutes already, we just could stand the thought of waiting again. The odd thing is, despite how empty they were, we over heard the manager telling another table that had complained about the slow service that it was a surprisingly busy night. This wreaks of poor management. This was our first experience, not sure we'll ever return. read more

For a country club we were not impressed. We've gone here 3 times and unfortunately we've been underwhelmed each time. Once for Mother's Day brunch, once for Sunday lunch, and once for dinner. The service was really attentive and kind. But the food misses the mark. And unfortunately that's what it's all about with a restaurant. Views of the course is nice. Large game room for kids is a plus. And they offer "babysitting" in the game room for about $6 for 2 hours (I think this figure is right) read more

This is actually a really good place, with great food, and some good deals during the week. The down side is that it is off the beaten path at the River Club of Mequon country club, but the restaurant is public. Up scale yet casual restaurant located in the the River Club of Mequon. We sat at the bar and tried one of the food flights: "They Happy Family" consisting of Ahi tuna, Duck and Buffalo short rib. All were excellent although plan on ordering one flight per person. Emphasis is on quality, not volume. Great craft beer and wine selection. Interior is well done upscale. There are several big screen TVs in the bar, but they are located well and do not dominate the area. Bartenders were young, but friendly and knowledgeable. The River club is private, but "The Nines" restaurant is open to the public. This did not seem to be an issue except for the "non parent" who brought 4 screaming pre-schoolers [not exaggerating here] and sat at a table between the bar and dining room. Although it looked like the management stopped to visit, it did not help the situation. Several groups left the area. Overall, other than the jerk with the kids, it was excellent and we will return. read more

Enjoyed dinner earlier this week--loved it! I appreciated the use of local food sources and the small plates are a great way to sample a variety of items--all of which were delicious. I went here a couple of times last year for the breakfast/brunch buffet and Bloody Mary bar. I was super jonesing to get my chocolate fountain fix, which used to be part of the buffet, I discovered during my recent visit that they killed off the buffet for good a couple of months ago. Damn, what's a girl to do? Well, I stuck around and ordered off the menu because why the hell not? I mean, I was already there anyway. Also, it's my goal in life to try as many variations of Eggs Benedict as possible, so obviously I had to order the Cuban (poached Yuppie Hill Farm Eggs, roasted pork tenderloin, Cuban bread, shaved ham, Roth Swiss cheese, pickles, and Dijon Hollandaise) and a side of breakfast potatoes. Good god, give me a plate of potatoes doused in some hotsauce and this girl is happy. And as far as the Benny goes, it was pretty tasty. Two minor complaints: not enough Hollandaise and one egg was overcooked. I asked for a side of Hollandaise, because IMO it can either make or break the dish. Let's face it, guys, the sauce ratio needs to be balanced, otherwise you've got something too wet or too dry and either of those scenarios is going to turn your Benny into a plate of sadness. The food and service here are just fine, not exceptional. The atmosphere is so-so. It's part of a country club, but open to the public so they even let un-classy broads like me walk through the door. Unfortunately, halfway into my meal, two old couples were seated at the table next to me so I got to hear their idiotic political drivel and that kind of soured the brunch vibe I had going on. Just a heads up, if you've got some kind of obsessive compulsive disorder, stay far away. Every painting on the wall was hung crooked so I convinced myself there must've been an earthquake right before my arrival, because seriously? Every. Single. Painting. After paying for the check, my kids and I spent the next two hours in the arcade/game room next door. I improved my Pac-Man game at least 30% so overall I'd say this place is a win. read more

If you aren't a member, expect to be treated as such. First, I've never ordered a "martini" that didn't come with a garnish... Of the five tables that were there at 7:00 on a Saturday night- two had the same Cosmo cocktails we ordered. They both had an orange and cherry garnish. Our 6 total were bare. So when they ask "Are you familiar with The Nines?", answer yes. We made the mistake of telling our "not-21-so-can't-recommend-wine" waitress we were new. It didn't matter because she was incapable of recommending anything anyway. Our food- burger, salmon, tacos - was ok to good. Prime rib looked boiled or microwaved, with a lot of gristle. Our teenage waitress almost insisted they remake more gristle even though we were clearly waiting for our check. Did I mention the place had 5 tables full on a Saturday evening? Waitress nowhere to be found. Never in the history of ever have we received our apps before the cocktails. Well, we did at The Nines. That's right folks, two apps came well before three cocktails and a beer. It's a shame really, it looks like it could be a nice place. I don't even mind the typical snobbish vide most Mequon fine dining establishments showcase... But this place took it a whole new level. If this mess is open for another summer I'll be surprised. But with so many better options nearby, there is no reason to ever find out. If you have the coupon and must go, get the burger or the salmon, and sit at the bar. read more

Great dinner!! We enjoyed the warm bread and shared calamari and baked French onion soup to start. Absolutely great!! Filet was good but we didn't think the fish fry had much flavor. Wouldn't order that again but all other food was terrific. Krista waited on us and provided some of the best service we have ever had, from start to finish. Not sure about some of the other reviews we read as we had a great experience and the quality and atmosphere was good. They could benefit from a better wine list. read more

Please note that this review applies to brunch only. I have eaten dinner a few times at the nines and have always been pleased. That said, I think this restaurants needs to stick with dinner and forget about offering brunch. The brunch at Nines consists of an omelette station, a "serve yourself" buffet table of hot breakfast items, including sausage, bacon, French toast, potatoes, etc. There is also a table with cheese and crackers, lox, bagels/cream cheese, fresh fruit, cold salads, cold side dishes, and a dessert table with chocolate fountain. Omelettes are greasy and over cooked, and the ingredient choices, while plentiful, were not high-quality. One person was responsible for making omelettes for the entire dining room, so there was always a line. The buffets items were over cooked, dry, and bland. The scrambled eggs had a funny texture like they were made from a powder. The dessert table was fine, but being a chocolate connoisseur, I couldn't help but notice the chocolate fountain tasted like "confectioners chocolate coating" and not good quality chocolate. As for service, we had a young waiter with a man bun and a scruffy beard who gave us coffee once and then disappeared for the next 30 minutes. Yikes. It was a shame to waste so much money for food that bad. Don't make the same mistake. read more

Yikes! Tried this place again after having poor meals previously. We had a reservation at 730 which we got there at 7 to have a drink at the bar and checked in with the hostess. She never came to get us. Sat down at 740. At 750 we ordered appetizers and some wine. Wine and apps never came so we reminded our waiter. After 50 minutes we received our apps. They were ok. We then waited another 30 min for our entrees. They never came so we left. Talked to the manager and be looked like a deer in head lights. Had no grasp of what was going on. Kitchen error and poor management is my feeling. The restaurant was dead so our meals should not have taken over an hour and a half. Third time being disappointed here, will not go back, read more

Service awful, food cold, and most serving pieces were empty or almost empty. We saw our server twice. And when she presented the bill she said, "you will see a service charge line item on your bill because we had to add extra staff for today's brunch, and just wanted you to know it doesn't include the tip". Food was pretty good, but the waitstaff could not have been worse. They brought my guest out a different wine both times even though she ordered the same thing each time, did not offer to correct the problem after it was pointed out. This was after not having the 1st 2 kinds of wine that she preferred. Also brought her out a dessert with peanuts in it after being heavily warned that she had a severe peanut alergy. If you want a night out by yourself, this is the place to be...because there is no one else ever here! Shortly after you arrive it's pretty clear why. Good luck having anyone wait on you in a timely fashion, then once they do it takes forever to get your food and drinks, and then there's a great chance your order is wrong!! There was three in our party, two entrees came out 10 mins before the third, with no apology. Food was ok, but the biggest issue was the tuna appetizers smelled hideously like bad fish. First time here with my family of four. Went for the brunch and thought it was very good. Waitstaff was attentive without over doing it. Nice views of the golf course and splash pad area. The food was good. There was a nice fresh omelette and carved prime rib station along with the usual brunch fare. Relaxing atmosphere. What a concept-"Flights of Food." I've had flights of wine and beer appreciating the fact that I can have a sampling of different choices. Here you can have a trio of food in smaller portions. Nice ambience and the acrylic/glass is beautiful, service was very good, and the food was excellent. We had the cheese appetizer and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of food for $10. I had the Farm to Fork Flight. Although all three were great, I'd have to say my favorite was the flat iron with mashed potatoes in a beer reduction sauce.
