Tried while in town on a work trip. Restaurant is very small with a few tables for dining in. I loved this place. It seems family owned as I met the mom one visit and the daughter the next. I was in Richmond for my daughters ECNL soccer. I ate there twice during my visit. Got the $15 Teriyaki NY Strip Steak. They give you very little beef that is way over done and tasted like chewy roast beef that is sitting in soup. The rice is ok and the sushi is decent. If I want soup, I will go get a can of progressive beef stew which is what this was. Was slightly hesitant to try this place due to several mixed reviews, but I had a taste for hibachi and wasn't in the mood to go to a fancy spot for the show. Bottom line- this was good and certainly good enough to cure the hibachi crave. Prices are reasonable and you get a decent amount of food. I tried the hibachi shrimp and also a danger roll. Sushi was pretty good, which may have been my shock factor. The hibachi had great taste and came with a side of ginger and yum yum sauce. I have to agree with other reviewers saying the yum yum is sweet. Honestly, it reminded me of a mix of yum yum + white sauce from a Mexican restaurant. It wasn't bad though when mixed in with the rice and veggies, but I probably used only half just to not overwhelm it. So, why take away a star? Simple-miso soup and salad not included. I know the prices are low, but there are some express places like this in RVA that do give you the standard for similar prices. I wouldn't even be mad paying a couple bucks more to have it included. Just my personal preference and feeling. Overall, this is a cheap and quick spot to grab some sushi or hibachi for lunch or dinner. Three classic sushi rolls costs $12 (normally $4.50-5.00 each), and I ordered a raw salmon roll, spicy crunchy tuna, and a California roll. The California roll was very basic, nothing to write home about, but the tuna and salmon were fantastic! Everything was perfectly proportioned for a single bite, the seaweed and rice were high quality and held together, and the fish was delicious. The chairs deserve special mention, 'cause places that are "eat here or takeout" usually are pretty darn "here's your hat, what's your hurry" when it comes to surroundings and fittings. We ordered on line from GrubHub. They have an offer where you can get any three rolls for $12. One of the people who wanted to order, wanted three rolls. Ninja Hibachi refused to fill that order stating they couldn't do that, you must order three different rolls. Nowhere on the site does it state that you can't order three of the exact same roll. I understand that sometimes the menu from the restaurant and Grub Hub may not be the same; however, it is incumbent upon the restaurant to ensure what is out there on their site. Also, the person who called to advise of the situation was horribly not friendly. Asking me if I understood what she was saying, while not listening to me. Listen, I am not your typical "Karen" who complains about hiccoughs and mistakes, but if I call and you are a royal witch about a simple misunderstanding, I have no use for your restaurant. There are plenty of sushi restaurants and hibachi restaurants in my area, there are at least 7 people at my organization who overhead the conversation and also advised that they will never order from them. Try and be a little friendly, when you have bad news or substitutions and you wouldn't have lost at least eight customers who had or vicariously had a bad customer experience, of course, we all talk and will discuss this issue with our building of 500 people. The chicken was good and the vegetables were grilled perfectly, but my fried rice was swimming in soy sauce, which made it way too salty. Unfortunately, they were quite skimpy on the chicken, and I left still hungry despite clearing my plate. More than anything, I am disappointed by the service I received. The cashier was very unpleasant. Each time I said "thank you," he said nothing back to me. I frequent Japanese and Vietnamese restaurants, and I am always thrilled by how their staff always treat customers like members of their own families. I had once ordered delivery from this place more than I should admit. That frequency multiplied when I'm in town alone. Who wants to cook? The Hibachi Chicken is fairly decent, as is the steak. I also recommend their Cheese Rangoon. Unfortunately it's not very consistent and depending on the day you will find the service very quick and the food is good to days where it's the exact opposite. I ordered delivery with my boyfriend last night. First note, there were super speedy! It took only about 30 minutes for them to arrive with our food, and it was still hot. I ordered the vegetable gyoza and the "pick 3 rolls for 12 dollars" deal. My gyoza was fantastic!! There were whole edamame beans in the mix, along with a nice hit of garlic. I didn't even need the dumpling sauce. For my rolls I ordered sweet potato roll, avocado roll, and the peanut avocado roll. The sweet potato was lovely, just a little sweet and the sweet potato is lightly fried. The avocado roll was good, and the avocado and peanut roll is great as well. The only thing I would recommend is maybe a little more sweetness in the avocado peanut roll? Maybe like a honey roasted peanut? My boyfriend got the seaweed salad and the same pick 3 for 12 deal. The seaweed salad was well made, and exactly what we wanted. He got the eel roll, i believe some type of spicy tuna, and a salmon roll. He was very pleased with his selection as well. You order at the counter and then they will bring the food to your table. We ordered the Spicy Salmon Crunch Roll, the Earth Roll, and some pork gyoza. The serving sizes are very small and not really worth ordering. The rolls also were not very tasty and not something I would order again. The pork gyoza was delicious, but the pieces were tiny. It seems as though people order the hibachi and ramen more, so maybe I should have stuck with one of those dishes.
