So I really don't even know where to start with this review because of all the things that were all wrong about the restaurant such as the food and cleanliness of the restaurant and also the decor of the restaurant. However I checked my food and the disappointment was written all over my face. The steak was as if it was precooked for like fajitas and the rice was mushy not fried but the shrimps looked as if they were cocktail shrimps. I had to ask for it after waiting for 5 -8 mins. This wasn't a problem. However, the wait for my food was crazy 30 minutes. We were the ONLY order. I watched him fix it in front of me to include box it up then sat our food on the counter. Nope this is not the issue, maybe it was too hot so I understand. So, I finally get my food after 39 minutes waiting. I had to request the tables be cleaned, they were sticky and had food on them. Nevertheless, it was very delicious. As I sat at the table eating something small moved from my tray to the edge of the table. A ROACH! yup, I was done, no need to eat anymore and yes pissed because I don't know if it came from, in or around my tray of food..... This is probably my favorite spot in Richmond to get hibachi to-go! Food is torch every time I go. They have very reasonable prices and if you go at lunch between 11am-3pm the deals are practically a steal. They also give a very nice size portion of food. I struggle to finish every time, and if I'm not being greedy then I usually can create two meals. It comes with a small salad and two small containers of yum yum sauce but I do recommend asking for extra yum yum sauce if you like it as much as I do. Inside isn't much to look at but they keep the bathroom decent and there's a TV to entertain during the wait. Also everything being prepared is in plain view behind a sneeze guard glass. They have pretty good customer service and the wait time isn't too long unless they are slammed during lunch hours which is usually around 1-2pm, but even then it's worth the wait or I recommend just calling ahead. You get the same portion, if not more, as you'd get at a restaurant and you get to skip the dramatics. The lunch chicken hibachi I ordered was cooked correctly, had a great taste, and was a great value at less than 10 bucks with drink. It's a pretty good little hibachi place for takeout. Would have liked to try the sushi but didn't really notice in the menu but were in a rush to get something quick for dinner. Not huge portions but the price was reasonable. I certainly would have liked to get more shrimp with my hibachi shrimp, but so it is. For my wife, myself and 14 year old daughter we had hibachi filet mignon ( I assume better quality than usual steak option that they also had? Okay so ironically I was looking for a totally different establishment but didn't realize it until I got my order but after a few bites I knew the mix up was worth it I got a salmon and shrimp habachi. For affordable hibachi, this is the place to go. They have most of the same options as your sit in- non express hibachi restaurants and it's a lot quicker. Most options come with rice for an additional $2 you can also get noodles. The tables are always sticky though so makes the hygiene of this establishment questionable, but you can see them preparing your food. read more

Best find of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A perfect combination of great food, great service, and great prices... there's nothing bad to say about this place. My boyfriend and I found this place by accident. We were going to go to the Mediterranean Oven but it was closed to our dismay. We used Yelp to find something close and this little place came up. We drove up to it and were a little underwhelmed. Anything with the word Express in the name that sells sushi can't be good, right? WRONG! We walked in and ordered from the guy at the register - chicken hibachi, edemame, a tuna sushi roll, and a California sushi roll. We paid a mere $20.15. A few seconds later the gentlemen gave us both a salad. I was quite surprised with how fresh the lettuce was. It was crisp and tasty and a perfect size for a small salad. About 5 minutes later the edamame came out in a little container that the salads came in (definitely not classy but absolutely tasty). The bean was steamed perfectly and had some salt sprinkled over it for flavor. The beans weren't too hard or too soft - they were just right. The chicken came out next. We were both surprised with the portion size. It was HUGE!! For $8 you absolutely get your money's worth. The chicken was seasoned to a wonderful taste and the veggies and rice on the side were amazing. The vegetables were cooked well, not too soft and still had a little crispness to them - everything tasted fresh and wonderful. Like I said before, this is definitely the surprise of the year for me so far. Would I recommend it? Yes!!! About a month ago while on my quest towards finding a new Hibachi spot, I stumbled across Hibachi Express. Prior to visiting this restaurant, my Hibachi experience had been limited to Kabuto's and a few other restaurants that I had visited once in a blue moon. Because I was in a hurry, I opted to order takeout from the restaurant instead of dining in. How did my experience go? To find out, read below: The Good: Taste of Food- I ordered the Chicken and Steak Hibachi which came with fried rice, veggies and a salad. I enjoyed the flavors of the meal, particularly the rice which wasn't too greasy and the chicken. The Not So Good: The Wait- I called my order in about 10 minutes before I arrived at the restaurant. Upon entering the restaurant, there were three people in front of me waiting to pay for their food. It took over 5 minutes for me to get to the front of the line and once I did, I paid for my food and it took another 5-10 minutes for my order to be ready. All in all about 30 or so minutes passed from the time I called the order in until my food was ready for me to receive. Price/Portion- The price of my meal was roughly $15. For $15, I did not get much food. For comparison purposes, I could get a a comparable meal at Cathay Gourmet for 2-3 people that costs $15. Overall- I loved the flavors of the food but wasn't too thrilled with how much it costs or being hungry after finishing my food. Went in last week for lunch as it had been recommended by a friend, got there and specifically told them when I ordered "please season my chicken and shrimp and cook it well" after I paid I mentioned it again as it seemed like the owner taking my order didnt even bother to acknowlege my request. I stood in the restaraunt while I waited and after 12 mins he called me to the counter and slide my to go container at me started to walk away. I had also ordered a drink and I told him because it seemed as though he had forgotten not sure how because I was the only one in there. He goes to get my drink and I open the container and immediatley realize they put nothing on the shrimp or chicken. Frustrated I asked did they have any salt and pepper cuz I know Im gonna have to season this in the car and he points to the tiny lil one salt and pepper pack thats inside the plastic fork and knife pack they give you in your utensils pack. If that is the only salt and pepper you have in this whole establishment I already know how this food is gonna taste. Smh Got to the car and put salt and pepper on the chicken and shrimp and it still tasted bland and plain. The rice was cold and I could pretty much tell they only semi cooked the chicken and shrimp and threw it on some old rice. The salad was basically just lettuce & a few onions & carrots thrown together but the sauce that went with it was vey nice, couldn't really tell what it was. The vegetables I got were broccoli, zucchini, carrots, mushrooms & onions. Along with fried rice with eggs or substitute noodles for $1. You get 3 sauces along with it but I didn't really need it because everything was flavorful & not too greasy or drenched with soy sauce. Overall I liked it & I would come again. It's nothing like the real hibachi dinners where the food is cooked right in front of you, also those places the food has a bit more flavor. This location the chefs are covered behind a glass window & it's kinda foggy, so you can't really see them. I saw a pic on FB from a person that visited this spot and had to try it for myself. It's a small building, but the service was great. We were greeted upon entering and told about the lunch specials they had. The cashier was super nice! The wait was reasonable for having your food good to order. So I'd expect you to take your last order at say 945. Nope! I called at 930 and the phone rang and rang. I don't live far so I decided to take a trip to pick up some and wait. I walked in at 935. All the cooks were strategically hiding behind the curtains . One said hello as the cashier came to the front. He asked if I was picking up and I said I wanted to place an order. He turned to the cook and then back at me and said "we're closed". Puzzled, I stated " your hours state 10 pm and it's a little after 930. He says "we leave at 10." WHAT?!? My first meal from there was great. We went back for a second time only to be very disappointed. First off when I placed my order she repeated it back to me four times and it was correct. When I got there she was in the middle of ringing me up and answered the phone, started taking an order. I stood there for about five minutes. I found that very rude because she said nothing too me, One minute were talking in the next she is on the phone. Then a gentleman came up and helped me pay and I got my order. Once I finally got home which is about a 20 minute drive I opened my box only to find that my order was not correct on both meals. I was offered what I was missing and I requested that I get new food made because by the time I were to come back everything will be cold and steak is not good when reheated because it cooks more. They said they would do it if I brought the food back and it was not touched. Upon my second arrival they were very busy and she told the guy that I was there and he said where? She responded with "the white girl in the back", Again rude. Once I was speaking to the guy again he informs me that it will be 20 minutes for them to cook me new food and that they hadn't even started yet even though I requested it when I called before I left home 20 minutes ago. By this time I'm fed up and it's late so I just took the items I was missing and left. Overall the service completely sucks. From now on I'll be carrying myself 20 minutes in the opposite direction to get hibachi that taste good but also leaves you happy overall. After eating....
